Update DVP to Mango. (very fast and easy) - Venue Pro General

Make sure you are updated to NoDo...
Here is a quick and easy guide:
UPDATING TO MANGO
1) Install the Windows Phone Support Tools 32 bit 64 bit
2) Connect your phone
3) Run Update.bat
4) The batch file will backup your phone, install the updates, and copy your backup to C:\PreMangoState
5) Zune should open and prompt for an update. Follow instructions from there.
6) After installing the first update, Zune will update again to 7661.
RESTORING NODO
Automatic:
You can use the Restore.bat file to automate the restore.
Manual:
1) Copy your backup in C:\PreMangoState to %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update
2) Run Zune, navigate to settings, click Update, and press Restore

There is always a chance, but in this situation it is minimal....Just make sure you are on NoDo, and follow the steps properly.

I updated to Zune a few weeks ago, my issue is that I cant seem to revert back, I have backups in my premangostate folder, each one is about 4GB, but when I put a backup folder in the windows phone update folder and run the restore.bat it says there's no restore point found.. any ideas what im doing wrong?
Edit: I mean updated to mango..

I actually just got over this problem, took me a bit to figure out.
What you need to do is what I did (not sure if it will work):
Delete the PreMangoState folder
Empty recycle bin
Downgrade to zune 4.7
have the WP support tools (Beta 2) installed
restart computer
do the Update.bat program
It should work as normal. When your phone is up to Mango status, then upgrade to Zune 4.8.
My theory is that the update.bat files know that the PreMangoState folder is there if you haven't emptied the recycle bin (since all that is doing is marking the space on your drive as free). However, emptying the recycle bin and restarting clears the space for good, and the update file will work as if it was run the first time.

How to confirm NoDo again?

is this will work on Tmo-US carrier DVP phones.

Appreciate it! But we need to point out this is update to Mango beta, right?

I used the other technique posted for my Tmo DVP and works great. Basically manual without the BAT files and W/o Phone support tools installed. Can't find the link though.

can you pls tell me the steps

Does this work for all DVPs or just T-Mobile? Does it have to be a Developer unlocked device?

It works for AT&T as well. Does not need to be developer unlocked.

NoDo inshort for No-Donut. Its basically a codename (by MS) given to the Windows Phone Feb 2011 update that brought copy& paste functionality and serveral other improvements in the OS.

I failed to upgrade to the next version of Zune after running this. Now when I connect the phone I get the Zune Software update required box. When I click ok, it tries download then gives me the message, "Can't find the media for installation package for 'Zune WMDU Component'. It might be incomplete or corrupt."
Any thoughts or am I screwed?

in the links that the OP provided, there is a download for Zune 4.8. Just uninstall your normal zune and install that one from the downloaded files. Your library will be the same, it will star up normally.

Remember to BACKUP YOUR BACKUP, as uninstalling Zune will likely delete it.

I don't see the download for Zune 4.8 in my downloaded files. When I drill down all I get is the Prov, read me text file, restore bat and update bat. is it in the prov?

Ah - my mistake I must of forgotten that this download package did not include the Zune update
I followed this thread here when I originally updated. Its very thorough and helpful.

That did the trick. Up & running. thanks.

Wanting to root

Regarding this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072
(Guide) Flash SBF to Motorola Atrix 4G
I was hoping to get some help.
I have an unrooted Atrix. It's my first Android phone. I already installed the latest update, 1.5.7, when it came out.
I'd like to roo the phone, but according to the above link I have to flash back to 1.2.6. I think I can handle the rooting process, but the flashing to the prior build is what I'm confused on how to do.
Am I understanding this correctly?:
1. I download the 1.2.6 file. Question: (What is the 1.5.2 file?)
2. Download the RSDLite 5 and install it.
3. I have a Windows Vista 32 bit system, so install the
32 bit file since I'm not rooted.
4. Then follow the instructions...turn off phone, ect..
5. On Step 7... Load up the SBF file, that would be the 1.2.6 file correct? I'm asking because I don't know what that 1.5.2 file mentioned earlier is. Does it matter where this file is extracted to on my computer?
After this is all done then do I I go to this page
[SCRIPT] GladRoot v4.2 (Bell 0.37.4, AT&T 1.26/1.52/1.57 Supported - Now w/ UnRoot) and do the first set of instructions?
Sorry for all the questions. I'm new to this and don't want to brick the phone. I really want that Titanium Backup program so I can backup and freeze some things.
Thank you
Don
I had the 1.5.7 update without root and a few days ago I did the same thing.
1. I download the 1.2.6 file. Question: (What is the 1.5.2 file?).
just get the 1.2.6 file
2. Download the RSDLite 5 and install it.
yes
3. I have a Windows Vista 32 bit system, so install the
32 bit file since I'm not rooted.
yes
4. Then follow the instructions...turn off phone, ect..
yes
5. On Step 7... Load up the SBF file, that would be the 1.2.6 file correct?
yes
I'm asking because I don't know what that 1.5.2 file mentioned earlier is. Does it matter where this file is extracted to on my computer?
no
After this is all done then do I I go to this page
[SCRIPT] GladRoot v4.2 (Bell 0.37.4, AT&T 1.26/1.52/1.57 Supported - Now w/ UnRoot) and do the first set of instructions?
if you have AT&T yes. Extract it so that it's C:\GladRootv4.2. When you run gladroot.bat be sure to answer yes to the question "Are you updating an AT&T Atrix on 1.26 to 1.57? [y/n]"
I got the adb "Unable to detect device" error whenever I ran the scripts. Just run the command adb services in a command prompt (You should see a device name as output) while in the C:\GladRootv4.2 directory for your computer to detect your phone properly and then run the script.
It's fairly painless, the SBF flash can take a while, 15-20 minutes or so. You will lose nearly everything that's on the phone, so save what you want to keep. I did notice the ringtones that I saved onto the phone (not on the sd card) were still there.
Root explorer is more interesting IMO.
Cheaper than TB.
Just need to rename apk bay adding a .bak to freeze them.
Thanks for the quick replies. These forums are great!!
One last question. Once rooted, if Motorola comes out with future updates, will this process need to be repeated for each update?
Thanks again.

i'd rather pay for few bucks for TB to have a quick and easy "freeze"/"unfreeze" button than to keep going in and manually renaming apks.
plus you can do all the root exploring and file managing that you want for FREE with super manager (in market).

Not sure, it depends how devs here on xda manage to root a future build. If the approach is the same as what is available now (preserve root in current build, update, restore root) you will not need to do the flash, lose everything etc. only if you run gladroot.bat prior to the official update. If you install the official update without running gladroot.bat then you'll have to go through the fun that is SBF flash.
I have a question about this as well, so I thought I'd ask here instead of a new thread...but at the drivers section of the instructions, it says just download them but if I've rooted my phone I should already have them. But if I've connected my phone to my computer by USB before just to transfer files, even if I haven't rooted, should I already have the right drivers?

Maybe. I would just install the specified drivers listed just to be safe. It's not a very large install file.

Alright, fair enough! Thanks for the help!
EDIT: Actually one more question. Does flashing the original SBF clear my phone? If it does, how can I backup everything on there if I'm currently unrooted? (I'm flashing this so that I CAN root later on). I'm not too worried about this I guess but I should be prepared anyway...

Zune updates or 1shot cab install - which is easier method to install BTTF

What did you do different? Is the sd card the main cause?

Zune uodates doesnt work all the way to mango (for me at least) so im trying the 1 shot now
Not even with the lastest official release of mango?

In my opinion one shot is better and faster.Quickest way to get to official"Mango"
This is what I did, first
Please if you've not flashed wp7 rom before you'll need to read a guide on how to do that before. Thanks
What you need:
Yuki native v2 (7004)
7004-7720 (one shot)
wp7 update cab sender.zip(wp7 cabsenderwinxpfix.zip -if you're using win xp-read further on this in the thread)
Device provisioning.cab
You must have zune
All in first post of Yuki-Xbmod "Back to Future"
Steps:
1.Install Yuki native v2 (7004)
2.Follow on screen instructions and set time zone, date and time.
NB:make sure it corresponds to that on the PC
3.leave the phone on don't power off, connect USB from PC to phone-
**Time to install 7720**
4.At PC, enter wp7 update cab sender folder
5.Go to "if needed install this tool" folder
6.Install setup - update wp(x64 for 64bits windows or x86 for 32bits windows)
NB:You can verify this at the Device manager on the PC
7.Copy device provisioning.cab to wp7-update-cab sender folder. Important,please don't extract this(device provisioning cab)
8.Run wp7 update cab sender.bat
9.Then on the PC keyboard, type s-(s)end cabs to device
10.After finished installing close wp7 update cab sender
11.Delete device provisioning.cab (ie. the one you copied into wp7 update cab sender)
12.Open wp7 7004-7720-patch.zip
13.Copy all the cab files to wp7 update cab sender folder
14.Run wp7 update cab.sender.bat again
15.As usual type s-(s)end cabs to device
NB:I believe it depends on you SD Card it should take about 1hr to 2hrs. In my case 1hr.
16.After installation reset your phone (ie. Go to about) it's important.
17. YOU ARE DONE. YOU NOW HAVE RTM 7720 YUKI-XBMOD
You can now proceed to do the official thing if you like on Zune.
You can checkout jayceooi at his blog or watch his video tut on YouTube if still not convinced.
I hope it helps.
I flashed the BTTF ROM V2.0 when it came out. And updated to 7392 via Zune. I didn't bother with all that other stuff. Frankly it was too much work and risk for me. I had a difficult time even getting BTTF to flash and enough was enough. I decided to wait for the official release of Mango and hoped the HD2 would get an official update.
Having said all that, when Mango was released I never got the update message. So I tried the 'disconnect' trick. It didn't work. I found no posts here on XDA saying if any other HD2 owners were able to get it via the 'disconnect' trick so I didn't put much effort into it.
I read somewhere in that uber long BTTF thread about installing the Mango beta via Zune to get Mango up and running, and I did that. Right now I am running version 7.10.7720.68 and loving it. Not sure if that's the official release or not, but its working for me.
Basically, I installed BTTF V2.0 as directed but stopped there. Then, once updated via Zune I waited for Mango to be released. When that didn't work I found the following -
http://windowsphonehacker.com/articles/get_the_mango_update_now._without_being_a_developer.-06-30-11
Make sure you have Zune 4.7 NOT 4.8 installed or it won't work. Also, sometime during the update process you will be prompted to update to the latest Zune software - DO NOT DO THIS. Wait until your phone is completely updated via Zune, then it's okay to update to 4.8. The entire process took about 2 hours for me. You will need to be patient.
Lastly, when you connect to 4.8 for the first time after above method you will be prompted for another update. Do that, it just cleans a few beta files up or something. When I did it the software stopped responding and the phone froze, but I let the software run its course and it eventually said connection to phone lost. When I disconnected and pulled the battery it started up just fine and I got a successful update message.
Good luck

[Q] 7004>nodo>mango dev unlock...is there an easier way?

Hi Everyone,
I just received a brand new ATT Focus from US ( with the SIM unlocking code also ).
The phone is rev 1.3 and running 7392 atm.
Searched and searched on XDA, Google also...couldn't find a definitive answer at all...
What is the easiest/fastest way to get to dev unlocked Mango ?
So far, from what I've read is to revert to 7004-chevron unlock-update NoDo- keep the unlock-update mango ( of course some registry tweaks during the way).
Thanks,

Job done
haha, I wasn't seeing the trees because of the forest.
For anyone that might get interested in this, here are the steps that worked great for me ( didn't put any SIM, nor had the time adjusted):
All info I had maily came from this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1143999
1. Install/flash 7004. Unlock via chevron. Use any registry editor to erase the values from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > DeviceReg/PortalUrlInt, remove its value data and save it. Do the same with PortalUrlProd
2.Zune upgrade to 7008.
3.Zune upgrade to NODO.
STOP THE UPDATING WHEN DONE otherwise ZUNE will automatically proceed to the last two updates that leads to Mango.
4. Deploy http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=722646&d=1316284246
5. Deploy http://www.edisk.cz/en/download/38910/New_SMS_unlock.xap_41.01KB.html
6. Make root /provxml. Copy unlock.xml to it.
7. Let Zune do the rest.
In my case, everything worked flawless and updated to the last samsung update: fm 2103.11.8.1; radio: 2103.11.8.1 BL: 5.8.0.2
you forgot to mention that after updating to mango 7720, you need to run the diagnostics app to load the "unlocked" profile. Heres a link to the thread, but this thread i find is unclear;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16809179
What i did was the following AFTER the update to MANGO!
1. Enter the diagnostics terminal by entering "##634#" as a phone number
2. Typed "*#9908#" in the diag. mode, which brought me to the GPRS settings
3. Scrolled through the list of profiles, selected "unlock", clicked "save"
4. now your focus is ready for sideloaded apps!

Consider me new; can you connect steps 4 and 5 with step 6? 4/5 are each XAP files, what purpose does each serve?
Also (and maybe related), unlock.xml seems to be within one of the linked XAPs if you change it's extension to ZIP. How do I copy it to /provxml? This isn't self evident to me, but maybe it is once in Root Tools? I haven't been in Root Tools yet, but is there somewhere to do step 6 within this and if so, can you summarize where?
Sorry for the many questions, there's a lot of info that's hard to digest on the matter - this is pretty close to being the best (most understandable) step-by-step once the questions I posed are answered. Thanks.

When you get to NoDo-cancel search for updates as it will surely get you to Mango without unlock.
Install ''WP7 Root Tools" from the link-yes it is a xap.
Install " New SMS" xap from the link.
Open WP& root tools on phone. Make a provxml folder in root. Navigate to Applications/Install/D19A80F2-..../Install and copy unlock.xml.
Paste unlock.xml inside the previously created PROVXML folder.
Exit.
Go to home screen open Phone.
Go to dialer- dial ##634#. A new program should open.
Type *#9908# and a new dialog comes out.
Choose unlock from the list. Press save. Exit.
Done. Fertig. Listo. Finito.
Hope it's clearer this time. Good luck.
This steps should be posted in a new thread and stickied.. IMO, its really hard to find good collected guide about the focus...

Just to confirm, you went through 7392, 7403, and 7720 all BEFORE selecting the unlock profile, right? LOL, I rolled back to Nodo to do this a few days ago, and Zune isn't giving me the option to update anymore, so when (if?) it finally does, I want to make sure I don't screw up and have to roll back again.
Not sure why it continues to tell me no updates are available when I have already gone through the update (using the official process) before, so I know it has been released to me. Perhaps it was only "available" to me briefly before they moved on to a different set of users?

From opening up the rar, the file mentions:
"US_TMO_SIGNED"
Is there a different ROM for each US carrier?
In other words, the Venue Pro appears to be sold in the US only as an unlocked device, but there is a version for AT&T bands and a version for T-Mobile bands. Is the ROM the same for both, so this would work for both?

We need a full image dump and not a backup file. And yeah. This is likely the only way to hack the phone.

does anyone have the image file and can post it to a standard upload service (mediafire, fileserve, etc.). webseraph where did the link go?
I've got it saved on my computer at home, I can reupload it later tonight if people still need it by the time I get home. It came with a bunch of Eastern-language files, Chinese or Japanese I believe, old versions of x86 Zune software, old versions of x86 drivers, and the .ffu file.
Since I believe the .ffu is the ROM itself (hopefully not a backup, I don't know much about this stuff and my Dell Venue Pro that I decided to order is still with Fedex), I'll just upload that, and anything else can be sourced at a million other locations.

I updated my previous post, I've got no idea. The instructions weren't in English and I don't even have a WP7 device (yet). I believe it would involve using UpdateWP.exe though.
cheers ^^

It'll be nice to have a look at it anyways, thank you sooooo much !
Can you upload the file somewhere? I would like to disect it.
Here's a repost of only the .ffu from the original post:
http://www.multiupload.com/5YT27EHLZV
The original rar also contained instructions in Chinese, plus other folders:
1 start, which included the VC redist files
2 Zune 4.7, (x86 only)
3 ZuneDesktop UpdateTool 1404, (x86 only)
4 Tool FFU _FinalCheck_CheckPVK, which I believe is just a wrapper to run the UpdateWP.exe command I mention below. If anyone wants this folder too, let me know.
5 FFU-Deploy, which contained only the .ffu file I zipped up and reposted.
From my brief research into the matter, it appears that you can use Zune 4.7 with an older UpdateWP.exe with the following command:
UpdateWP.exe /ffu <filename>
Zune 4.7 and the older UpdateWP.exe are available all over so I didn't bother uploading those.
Machine translation of instruction file:
Brush process
Computer system XP SP3 (win7 system similar)
By folder order in 1234 to install
A: Click the folder to install the three files in 1 start
B: Download and install this zune4.7 me
C: install about 3 ZuneDesktop UpdateTool 1404 folder in the Setup-UpdateWP-x86.exe
D: Open the folder 4 Tool FFU _FinalCheck_CheckPVK in the file FFUDownload_ShareU.exe,
Tap Browse, find the 5 FFU-Deploy folder of the Rom file
Then began to brush machine,
1 cell phone off, remove the battery
2 believe the key to holding down the data cable to the computer
3 Wait a moment, the computer will automatically find the drivers. (Note to zune off, preferably in the Task Manager in the zune process off)
4 drive automatically installed after the point about brush machine software in the download, and then will begin to brush machine, brush machine program into the background of green.
After a good brush, the phone will automatically restart, like, Brush some tips that appear on the software window, all the way to determine the fine.
Brush, do not pull the data line.

Again though, this isn't my file, and I haven't tested it, so don't blame me if something goes wrong.
time to do some reading ^^

ACE will try it out ^^
Actually, can you upload the whole original .rar cause I can read chinese and want to flash my phone anyways cause its bricked so I just want to see if this will help and it looks like i need the whole package in order to do so ^^
The FFU works. It is 7704 and it is amazing how much Windows Phone 7 has advanced. Now the trick is to find a way to install an exploit before Mango that sets the interop unlock at every boot or something and then find a way to restore a backup. I am not really sure how the backup/restore process works. It did require me have the latest updates before restoring so it is possible it just restores non /windows files and folders. So if we can find something in the system that can provision the provxml files then we are golden. The problem is I have no idea what would do that in the system. If you dare to do what I just did, make sure you have a back up and a backup of that backup stored elsewhere as you never know if zune will delete your backup.

[Q] Issues with updating DVP from 7720 to 8773 !?

Sup everyone,
I finally got around to updating my TMO DVP. It's been stuck on 7720 this whole time and want to bring it up to Tango.
My question is: what exactly are the steps to upgrading???
Here are the threads I'm trying to follow in order:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103011
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497142&nocache=1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736993
From what I understand it:
Install Windows Phone Support Tool
Install WP7 Backup 1.6
Install WP7 Update Cab Sender
Then???
I don't get it. I've installed WP Support tools which doesn't make sense. I have Win7-64bit. The downloads available are x86 or amd64. My computer is intel based, so which do I use? x86 doesn't install, makes sense. I installed amd64.
My next problem is, are there different versions of WP Support Tools? My Zune is up-to-date 4.8.2345.
After installing WP Support Tools:
WPSupportTools.exe is version 0.0.0.0, date modified 4/1/11
UpdateWP.exe is version 6.1.7600.16385 date modified 4/1/11
Microsoft.WindowsMobile.DeviceUpdate.dll is version 4.7.1404.3 date modified 4/1/11
When I run WP Support Tool, I get:
UpdateWP version 4.7.1404
Error: The installed version of the tool (4.7.1404) needs to be updated to match the Zune version (4.8.2345). Please install the tool version 4.8.2345.

Log from when I got somewhere and nothing happened.
I've uninstalled and deleted everything. If anyone can help me out from square one it'd be much appreciated.

It's been a while since I did this. But you did right, AMD64 is correct. And try the file I attached as that's the newest version to match your Zune software. Let us know if you run into anything :good:
(and no, I didn't create the file. I just have it archived from a working cab sender upgrade so credits go to the original poster)
Ok,.
So I installed WP Support Tools.
Copied the files you gave into the Zune directory.
Copied WP7 Backup 1.6 into the Zune directory.
Tried running a backup.
Attached is the error message I got.
I tried the cmd method and that gave the same error.

I ran into this issue too.
First question: Is your Zune install in the default location? The support tool installer seems kind of... stupid. It always installs in \Program Files\Zune even if Zune isn't actually installed there. You can copy the files from that location to wherever Zune is installed, if not. Be careful of overwrites.
Next question (really the important one, but the question above can be the reason for the problem): Is there a file called wm7updatelib.dll, or similar, in the folder with your UpdateWP.exe? If so, is it the same version (exactly, down to the build number)? If not, you may need to re-install the support tool (I suggest uninstalling it first, using appwiz.cpl).

Looking at this post.
I have wm7update.dll (not wm7updatelib.dll). It is file version 1.0.0.1 /product version 7.0.0.0.
Can you post the right library file?
Thanks
-
Attached are a list of my files and versions in Zune folder. (Ignore the dual Microsoft and UpdateWP, I just added garbage text to the originals)
Backing up now.
Copied the files attached.
wm7update.dll
Interop.wm7updatelib.dll
Interop.ZuneWmdulib.dll

Good work Glad to see you figured it out. Might want to share your experience if you ran into specific problems in case others have it?
Thanks.
All it was, was making sure I had the right file versions for the right files. Those of which I posted above.

I've just update to 8773 myself as well. However, I want to ask you a question: whether we could re-write the firmware version also? My OS version is 7.10.8773.98, but firmware is 2250.1800.7720.219.
No idea. I noticed that too, but haven't seen anything about it just yet.

Yeah, maybe it's not necessary enough for us to consider that. However, I just noticed that while updating via Zune, this firmware version string is changed, but not with CAB sender. So, I just guess there might be a way to do it by ourselves too!
please note that the firmware package contains the bootloader drivers etc.etc.
Dell will probably not update those any more. The latest o.s. updates are provided by microsoft and they don't include any drivers whatsoever.
As long as the OS version is the most recent, you're good.
