I got the phone rooted (via gfree afaik), what's the ADB command (or if I can check on my phone) to see if my phone is unlocked for another carrier?
Put another similar card into it?

The easiest way that comes to mind is shut down, turn on and hold volume down and at the white sceeen it should say if youre unlocked
The boot screen doesn't tell you if your phone is unlocked...I think, I only see S-OFF and my bootloader info.
I put in an AT&T sim, I'm not getting an error but nor am I getting service.
If you put another sim card in and your phone doesn't ask for the sim unlock code when you first start it your unlocked. I believe ( and I can be mistaken) that you may need to set up an APN for AT&T as the setting for T-mobile will not work, which I why you may not be getting service.
You can try
Name: AT&T
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: leave blank
Port: leave blank
Username:[email protected]
Password:CINGULAR1
Server: leave blank
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
MCC:310
MNC:410 (note. this could also be 310, 41 or 15)
APN Type: leave blank
Well APNs are only for data network. Mobile network should work even without proper apns.
Probably you can call tmo if you have sim and ask them. Otherwise may be just try to root again? I guess cid is not really unlocked.

I thought that if the screen showed a certain number (stab in the dark, I think i recall 85.2007 being involved) it meant the SIM was unlocked. Give me a few minutes, I'll doublecheck my info

Your phone comes with 0.86.0000 bootloader. If you root your phone using " Guide to permaroot, s=off AND s=on!!!!!" It's will automatically install the engineering bootloader (0.85.2007) but your sim will still be locked. If you root your phone using "/Gfree TRUE PermaRoot and the ULTIMATE S=Off!!!" it will unlock the CID so you can use any carrier, but it will not automatically change your bootloader from stock 0.86.0000 to the engineering 0.85.2007, you have to take one extra step. Those those numbers have nothing to do with your sim being locked or unlocked, just different bootloaders.

Even so, I still got Edge data on my myTouch after sticking an AT&T SIM in there. The APNs were in the ROM, if I'm not mistaken.

I go the official unlock code and directions from Tmobile, but they assume in the directions that you have a dialer... does that mean I have to hack my Galaxy Tab just to enter in an unlock code...ideas???
Here's the Tmobile USA unlock directions:
"It is very important that the instructions are followed as listed.
If using a T-mobile SIM card:
1. Put in a T-Mobile SIM card.
2. Turn on the handset.
3. Enter: #7465625*638*Unlock Code#
If using a Non T-Mobile SIM card:
1. Put in the Non T-Mobile SIM card.
2. Turn on the handset.
3. Enter the Unlock Code provided by T-Mobile.
Note: DO Not enter #7465625*638*unlock code# with a non T-Mobile SIM card, as this causes the handset to freeze.
If you receive an error message while performing the instructions do not make any further attempts to unlock the handset. Please be aware that if an excessive amount of incorrect attempts are made, the phone will be permanently locked."
The easiest thing for you to do, lucky one, is to get a SIM card from another provider and unlock.
How did you get your unlock code so fast? What did you do? What did you say? Please advice. Thank you.

I called Tmobile and told them I was traveling and needed asap... they sent it over via email... I followed your directions and it asked me for the unlock code, I entered it correctly and it didn't work. I got a message saying "unsuccessful". I did this process 3 times and gave up. Any ideas?

I have been reading through the posts and I am starting to go blind.
I have a Bell Atrix, and currently I cannot save APN's.
Do I just need to Root to fix this? If so, what is the best way to root?
Any links provided would be great!

Is your provider Bell or are you trying to use your Atrix on other network?
I use APN Backup & restore from the market. It worked on my Bell Atrix but I'm not sure if it was rooted first. Rooting isn't that hard if you need to do it.
Hope this helps.
If by your name your trying to use an unlocked Bell Atrix on mts, I couldn't get it to work, returned the phone.
Yes, my provider is MTS Mobility. The phone is from Bell.
The phone is rooted. I have tried APN back up and APN manager.
The funny thing is that i have put in the apn info a hundred times, and last night it saved once. I tried to edit, and it disappeared again.
is there a page with your apn settings you can direct me to? I will try to load it on my device and if it sticks I will send you the APN backup file so that you can restore it to your device.
I requested a sim unlock code from tmobile, and I received it. I entered it twice with a non-tmobile sim, and both times, the code was rejected by my my Mytouch 4G.
I'm since asked t-mobile to recheck the code (IMEI was correct). They said they would, but that they couldn't guarantee that they could send me an accurate code.
I understand after 3 attempts, it permanently locks. I have one left.
I understand I could use gfree method to sim unlock. It will take some effort to reflash back to older roms, etc.
If I try a 3rd time and cause my phone to lock out further attempts, will the gfree method still allow me to unlock?
I would rather simply deal with codes, but if I risk permanently blocking the ability to unlock my phone, then I'll give go the gfree route instead of trying again.
thanks
Just flash a stock rooted froyo rom, an run gfree, that's not hard to do.
Afaik gfree doesn't count as an attempt. it is different from receiving an unlock code

i can give you a link to buy official unlock code from an eBay seller (which i bought to unlock my MT4G),if i allow to post & if you not use gfree.
ok, figured it out. When the phone was booting up, it was initially asking for my pin on my sim card (i was using a vodafone websessions sim), not the network unlock. Once I entered that correct, I got the network unlock page, and that worked.

Can someone give clear instructions on how to Network unlock my completely stock Galaxy S4 I337? I've read all sorts of different methods and none of them have worked. So far, I have tried (unsuccessfully) the following:
- Using the *#27663368378# method, does not do anything
- Using the *#0011# method, does not take me to the UMTS menu
- Using the *#9090# method, does not take me to the UMTS menu
- Using the *#*#197328640#*#* method, takes me to the DEBUG SCREEN in the UMTS menu but Option 6 (PHONE CONTROL) is not there
- Using 'Samsung Service Mode' app method (google search for "samservicemode" it's the first XDA link), takes me to the DEBUG SCREEN in the UMTS menu but Option 6 (PHONE CONTROL) is not there
One thread I saw mentioned that the modem / modem drivers have something to do with the menu options not being there but didn't offer much else.
Is there a tried and true proven method to Network unlock an AT&T 32GB Galaxy S4 I337? My phone's basic info is attached.
Call AT$T and have them give you the unlock code. I did this and was the easiest way.

Is there any sure-fire way without root?
I have had the same problem.
I have not found a way to sim unlock my phone.
The easiest way is to call AT&T and tell them that you will be traveling in Europe and need your phone unlocked. AT&T is generally willing to provide an unlock code in this situation.
If you wish to unlock it yourself, have a look at my post that gives you options when the necessary Samsung menu item appears to be missing. It's not usually missing.. just moved to a different sub menu: How to unlock..
.
I tried following steps and my at&t phone is unlocked. Tried with T-mobile sim as well as international sim.
Possible method to SIM unlock on MK2 *must be rooted*
1. Rooted my s4 on MF3 using following method.
New Root Method for AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 (OTA MF3 + Safe update to MK2)
HOWTO:
Use a card reader to format the micro SD card to exFAT (FAT32 or other formats does not work) in Windows. I haven't tried Linux or MacOS X, so they may not work.
Download the attached file (Root_for_ATTSG4_FM3.rar) and extract it into the root of your EXTERNAL microSD card using the card reader in Windows. (You can do the extraction using WinRAR or 7-zip).
Put the SD card back to the phone and download the Android Terminal Emulator app.
Open the Terminal Emulator app and run below 3 commands:
Code:
cd /mnt/extSdCard
./pwn
./script.sh
Then, open SuperSU and check everything looks good.
Then open a root app and it should be working properly.
Reboot your device once to confirm root is still working after reboot.

2. Install Recovery using following method. Follow MF3 saferoot method
[RECOVERY LOCKED] Safestrap Recovery v3.71 [2013-12-27 EXFAT Fix]
FOR USERS OF MF3 (TW4.2):
LATEST FILE: Safestrap-JFLTEATT-3.65.apk (updated 2013-11-15)
Main XDA Downloads Page
Mirror 1 (Goo.im): http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/jflteatt/safestrap
HOW DO I INSTALL SAFESTRAP?
Requirement: Root
Requirement: Allow APK install from Unknown Sources
Download the Safestrap APK
Find the APK using a Filemanager tool and open it on your device, then click "Install".
(If updating from an existing Safestrap you might be warned that this will over-write the existing installation. Click the "Yes" equivalent to this message.)
Once installed, open up the Safestrap application as you would any other app.
Agree to the disclaimer that you won't try to sue me and hunt me down with a rifle if you manage to break your phone..
Then use the "Install Recovery" button. You should see the current version down in the lower left corner of the window. And the "Status:" should say "Installed" when you're done.
From there you can reboot and you *should* see a new splash screen during the boot up. While this is showing you can enter Safestrap Recovery using the [ menu ] button.
That's it for the installation! Read below for a brief overview of Safestrap Recovery v3.x

Method 2 (posted by muniz_ri)
Alternatively, I337 owners can flash the MDL modem via Odin to re-gain access to the hidden menu(links to signed, odin flashable modems below) then follow the guide in the OP to unlock your phone. Once completed you can re-flash the MK2 modem. I tested this process on my own stock i337 running stock MK2 and it works but follow at your own risk. Also, my knox warranty flag has been tripped for a long time so I don't know if flashing the MDL modem will trip the flag or not. Someone else can chime in on that. Cheers:

If you don't have an account with at&t they are not going to give you a code. Either try the free unlock or buy a code.
Just a heads up on the free unlock, generally if you try it too many times you will be permanently unable to unlock. So if it doesn't work the first couple of times give up

The free way does not work for me as I am not able to access the Phone Control feature (possibly because of the 4.4.2 OS which I have heard has some features to prevent users from unlocking a device).
I am having the previous owner and at&t customer to call and request the code. Will know whether they will release the code in 48 hours.
If that doesn't work I will have to buy a code. Any recommendations?
I have used cellunlocker.net many times and couldn't be happier (except for the price lol)

T-Mobile
This means you have a T-Mobile version of the phone.
You can only unlock the bootloader on T-Mobile if
a) You have completely paid off the phone on T-Mobile's network (if you used financing) and have used it on the network for 40 days.
XDA has made an article to root on T-Mobile's network.
OR
b) You are on Android 9.0.11 or lower.
Follow this method to convert to an international ROM of OxygenOS, then root the phone like a normal OnePlus 6t
NOTE: BOTH METHODS WILL COMPLETELY WIPE YOUR PHONE!
Make a BACKUP with OnePlus Switch and save it to your computer before doing this if you don't want to loose data.

Actually, there is a guide in this forum to sim unlock, and unlock the bootloader without waiting for TMobile to unlock the sim, and you don't even have to get the unlock code for the bootloader.
