Dear Galaxy Tab 10.1 (RETAIL) owners,
Please if you can participate on this survey.
Retail means the one you bought at NY June 8th and/or after June 17th.
If you have exchanged one, let us know what was the problem?
Hardware issue like screen bleed, cracking speaker noise, wi-fi issue, etc ...
Or probably functionality issue like bricked, boot loop, etc ...
With this poll, we could get a rough picture about how well the manufacture / production of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Retail version), Samsung QA, those kind of things.
None of the reported issues here.
Hi, thanks for your input.
Please if you can vote in the poll.
The poll options was created a bit late

I've gone through a looooot of Android devices lately and I can honestly say this is the first one I have not had to exchange. I'm very impressed with Samsung.
Mine is perfect. I am impressed.
Exchanged mine 3 times.
First unit bought on June 15th in NYC had an "oil spill" effect under the screen in one spot.
Second unit - display light bleed in the lower left corner.
Third unit - dead pixel.
Last unit seems to be ok.
I had the "oil slick" issue under the glass...my new one is on the way so I'll respond to the poll when it gets here.
I had to return my first one because one of the edges was rough to where it seemed as if the paint quality was bad. My second one is perfect though!
Lol... the results from this poll is an exact reciprocal of the Asus Transformer polls.
I will be exchanging mine today. there is a bulge on the back where it looks like they forced the cover onto the device with a loose screw or worse a broken component.
Mmm ... I dont understand what you mean

Can you guys please explain how you found these issues I think we all want to check ours throughout. To find oil under the screen was the display off in order to see? Back light bleeding can you just check by pulling up a black image and making sure nothing is bleeding through?
So far mine is perfect I haven't noticed anyrhing!
Returned my first one. Was having lots of wifi problems. Got a second one and about 75% of the wifi problems are gone now and I think the other 25% of my wifi problems could just be crappy apps (Pandora and TuneIn Pro seem to really suck on my tablet).
I think I got a good tablet this time. But Android 3.x and app bugs don't make it easy to be sure. Haha.
So far, so good
Received mine on the 20th. It's a little early to make a judgment with a high degree of confidence, but no issues to date. Clean unit here.
I just got mine today, so im still checking everything out, but no issues so far. Exterior build quality looks good and no real software problems (had minor issue connecting to my wifi, but a modem/router reset fixed it).

Exchanged mine twice.
First had light bleed. Second had screen separation. Hopefully the 3rd time is the charm.
I had the IO version and it felt cheaper and plasticky but this one is sturdier. This device has an even ring around it whereas the IO devices were thrown together test manufacturing models. No issues here.
I noticed the back of the tablet below the camera can be flexed in some. Not a big deal, but it felt kind of odd.
I was at the launch (of s2).here in dubai - about 2 devices had oil spill (mind you'll this was a demo unit - one was a 8.9 and other was 10.1)
I'm having double mind of shipping it in - i'll pick it when it's locally available

After reading all of the crappy review for the transformer, it looks as if 50% are happy 50% are not.
I am wondering if the problems are occurring in batches because I just ordered mine from American TV and it will probably be here tomorrow or the next day.
A lot of the problems I have found are from the batches that have already been purchased and I don't know what to think.
Two things:
When asus was first bringing these to market, it could the problems are coming from they just naturally skimped on manufacturing quality because they are so damn cheap. Or they had a bad batch to get them to market quickly.
Asus could also just had normal manufacturing quality before and NOW since there is a high demand, newer units may experience worse manufacturing quality. Or they could be better because they knew of the problems.
Hope its not too confusing, what do you guys think? Newer units = worse quality? Older Units = better than newer?
i think logically you could expect the first units to have the most problems, however, we dont know if asus had enough complaints, or realized that there are defects (if there are--aside from software side) to be able to retool and make changes during the assem process to produce better revised hardware.
I actually gave this exact topic a lot of thought a few days ago, i thought about everyones complaints and how it was hit/miss it seemed, and i wondered whether the people that are complaining were truly the "first" adopters and got REV 1 hardware. Obviously, since they are playing with the tab and most of us are anxiously awaiting its arrival i would assume it just may be the case. Heres to hoping that these little glitches were an easy fix at the factory level (but knowing how they operate i doubt its a simple/cheap/quick process, which makes me doubt that the tabs that me and you will receive this week will be any diff from the ones recieved by the people last week and the one prior. the time frame is just too small, but then again, anythings possible).

Definitely have to agree. My guess they are the same and it is so difficult for Asus to actually respond to problems and transfer a fix to the manufacturing of the units. The only real thing I am worried about is the light bleed/dead pixels.
Moreover, the problem seems to be 50-50 and my estimate came from the assumption that there is manufacturing quality loss through increase production speed to meet the high demand. I tend to believe this because of the poor quality control. I am assuming (after reading the post about the guy receiving a 2.2 model) is that they do perform screen quality checks, to a certain extent. Some may have just slipped out.
Lets just hope we get a solid model.
I tend to side with the second poster...it's all about quality control....how many get out the door without their defects being noticed OR....being flagged as a defect.
I've worked around assembly lines all of my life...25+ years and I can understand some defects got through unnoticed....but the question is: when were they noticed and what steps were taken to prevent the same issue from occurring again?
And the second point is valid also....speed equals a mindset of "this one little corner-cutting decision won't make that big a deal in the long run...."
Unfortunately, rushing things to market to fill orders at a breakneck pace means that issues are more likely to get by...that's a fact of life.
When cash is on the line...decisions get made that might not otherwise gotten made.
I hope mine comes today without the glaring errors that I've seen here...crossing my fingers...
My only real complaint is the light bleed. I know it isn't the only device that's had this problem. I remember when I was reading the Evo 4G forums it had a similar problem when it first came out and recently the iPad2 had light bleed issues too.
The light bleed isn't a huge deal, but it is distracting while watching certain tv shows and movies imo.
I've had 3, first one was the very first batch in the UK, arrived mid April or thereabouts. The next one was around the end of April and the the latest one I received around the 6th of May.
1) Mid April
Some lightbleed on 3 of 4 edges. Perfect screen in terms of pixels. Imbalanced speakers. No sleep of death in 2 weeks or so. No gap in glass.
2) End April
Terrible lightbleed. 14+ stuck pixels (I gave up counting). I think the speakers were imbalanced too. No sleep of death, but only used it for a few minutes. No gap in glass was noticed.
3) Start of May
Some lightbleed, probably akin to 1. Around 8 or so stuck pixels, seen on black screen. Perfectly balanced speakers. Had 1 incident of the sleep of death within 5 days. Glass does not fit perfectly on left hand side (gap of 1-2mm allowing dust inside and glass to be lifted by nail)
Had I known what would happen I would now gladly stick with the first! So, from this small sample it seems that in my case the earlier devices were better in some ways but not in others. We'd have to have a huge sample to be able to answer definitively. I still love the tablet though.
I have a first US batch version and it's fine.
This is why I just ordered the Acer. I got mine and had some light bleed. It got worse. The creaking got worse. Now there is a small piece of dust under the screen. It is not very noticeable except on white background but it worries me that in 6 days of ownership it is getting worse. I now see a dust spec under the camera glass.
The edges of all the ports are razor sharp and can take off skin.
I love the weight the price and the ups screen but the build quality is very disappointing. If it was only the light bleed from day one I would keep but I can't handle how much more has happened in 1 week of ownership.
I got a 32 DB Livonia using coupons from staples for only 40 dollars more than a 16gb Asus cost me. The screen in store was quite good. The build quality seemed much better and despite the added weight it seemed more comfortable. To hold given the curved shape. If availability were better maybe I would exchange my Asus but no stock around.
in the end I might just opt for the new galaxy tab as it seems to be most like the load in size and weight.

Just received
I just got the TF in the mail today. It is nice.. but there are some drawbacks from the xoom that I miss.
Xoom felt nicer in my hand and had that led notification. But the screen on the TF is WAAY better.
I do have light bleed in small sections, not terribly noticeable. Speakers are fine. no dead pixels, yet. not really a creaky sound, just when I press harder than normal on the screen. No glass misaligned. I will seal up the beast with a vinyl cover. Screen is responsive, no probs yet.
A bit disappointed
I received my TF this Thursday and was so very happy. After unwrapping it I pressed the power button and I got nothing. I thought OMG it's not working. Then I thought, maybe they didn't have time to charge the battery. So I charged it. I checked on in within a hour and pressed the button and it came on. I began to play with it and realized that after the TF wasn't in use for more than 5 mins the power button whenever pressed didn't wake the TF up... SO i pressed and pressed.. nothing.. so I waited about 30 sec after a press of the button and it came on.. After going thur this over and over I figured it was a defect and I RMA'ed it. I'm hoping that they didn't just push out a product that will have a lot of issues...
Here's my two cents:
Got my TF from Fry's in LA on May 5th. 32GB don't know manf date.
For light bleed - minimal sround the left lower edge and upper right edge. Dark room, bright up full, about a 1mm bleed - very slight and almost unnoticible.
Running latest update with no issues, just updated again today with no issues.
Sometimes after a long sleep it won't power back up with the power button, so I press the vol down and pwr at the same time (shut down) and it shuts down and restarts fine...Seems a sw glitch.
Other than that it's an awesome machine!
Dock - arrived on the 12th. charged up fine, docked fine, no mouse, brick or other issues other than the backspace key is touchy (actually not touchy -takes some effort), but all other keys work well. I think I'll RMA it later depending on how many show in production (I can live with this for now).
Case - had to cut a small hole in bottom to allow charging while case is closed. Otherwise great.
I hope this helps.
BTW, I don't follow these threads too much, so if you need something please PM me.
I feel like I've said this before, but I'm honestly surprised to hear of all of these issues. Mine doesn't seem to have any of them. No gaps around the screen, the glass fits perfectly, the casing for the tablet seems sturdy and doesn't budge at all. There's very little noticeable light bleed, if any. I've never had anything like a "Sleep of Death". I couldn't be happier with the quality of this beast.
EDIT: I should mention I have a 32GB version that I purchased from TigerDirect on Wednesday, got it this past Thursday.
My tablet and dock were among the older units. I had only one instance of SOD and the green screen with the camera issue which has been fixed via firmware update.
The tablet itself appears to be of high build quality, the bezel is secure, no gaps around the screen seal, no dust,no dead pixels, very minimal light bleed that I had to actively look for.
no problems to speak of
eGoing on 2 weeks ownership using various each day.
The only thing a few times I've come back to an unresponsive unit. Then I just held power button down 10 seconds and then rebooted. I take that with a grain of salt.
But. I am not going to update software for another week or so. Until I read more positive reviews
Many problems with mine
I ordered mine from The Best Buy batch on May 22nd, and it came with a not-smooth not-particularly-responsive screen; it then got two light leak spots, the clock disappeared from the menu bar once, and it bricked when I ran the 3.1 update. I sent it back, but I wonder, are the screens really not as smooth or responsive as the Xoom or Acer A500?
Good : Well i love the new tablet and in hand its light and a pleasure to use, the Plastic back is nice in hand and not slippery and visually this tablet is great. But ...........
Bad and Ugly : Here's my issue with the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
What is happening and i can see this being a big problem down the road of use is that when i hold the Tab with my left hand in portrait with the dock connector on my palm of the left hand, the thin piece of the housing is getting bent and pulled away from the glass and over time i see this getting stretched out. i think Samsung should have built the aluminum edging more webbing in the glass to keep that delicate piece from being so flexible and flimsy.
Anyone else having/noticing this issue or any other flaws, defects ????
Here's a few pics of what i am mentioning :

Damn, and here I was pondering returning my Transformer for a better build quality Samsung. Shootz!
I still may do it though since I never use portrait mode and for the most part it will be on a stand, but still, it sucks to see that.
You must have a 10.1v
I have the Google i/o edition and the side looks different than your with regard to the placement of those round hole covers on either side in relation to the curve.
I think that on the i/o (hopefully it will be the same as the 10.1) it has resolved that issue. I am trying to hold it as you are mentioning and I see no movement whatsoever. even if i try to pry at it, it is super solid.
is your a 10.1v?

mines from San Fran USA - Dev Conference , its the white back Limited Edition
Everyone needs to specify details regarding there unit if they have one. It is clear that the limited edition/early release galaxy tabs are not identically the same as the one yet to be released.
thats really strange, your tablet looks way different than mine which also came from the recent i/o event.
picture attached...
it would seem there were multiple version of the same device if you have the limited edition white backed then...
anyone else? which do you have?

im trying to re-create your picture to make sure its not an optical illusion, but your bottom half of the silver bezel looks so angular/curved compared to mine which as you can see from the picture above is much less curved. Espeically noticeable with the small round hole covers on either end of the connector, mine are not very curves, yours seemvery curved and angular.

I don't understand - are you using it while something is plugged into the dock connector, or is just from normal use? Maybe you are just holding it wrong?
normal use , i take very good care of my toys hahaha
And no i don't have it plugged in when using it
if you hold it left handed its normal i find that the palm and strong of the thumb seem to put stress on the thin strip of aluminum and slightly pulls it away from the glass since on mine the thin strip is not any thicker under the glass as what i can see visually. so its seems to be a weak point of the aluminum bezel
Bummer i wonder if a port plug would help.

I am not experiencing that same problem, but the glass in one of the corners does appear to be pealing up. Link below. Hoping that this is as far as it raises, but who knows... I talked to the Samsung guy at Google I/O and had my first device replaced for a similar issue I noticed there, and he said this first batch was made by hand in a bit of a rush so that they would be available for us googlers. I expect that the automated and machine driven build process for the production units will have more consistent quality.

Harsh that looks bad. I think the quality of the aluminum bezel is to thin and over time with alot of use our holding styles will cause these kind of issues.

Just got off the phone with Samsung about this issue. They will allow me to send the unit to them for repair/replacement. Im just a little worried about going through the whole process only to find that they will send me back a unit with similar or worse build quality issues... Anyone else noticing problems with the screen raising up? Might just stick with what I have for fear of winding up with an even worse unit. Really was starting to fall in love with this thing.

I'm getting the same thing. Mine was this way out of the box at the conference, and with the plastic back pulling back, it looked like the tablet was warped. I popped it back into place and it looked good so I didn't say anything to anyone at the conference about it. I probably should have though, because now the screen is separating from the housing again in those two corners.
I stupidly threw away the blue card they gave at I/O that had the contact info for Samsung, who did you talk to about getting it repaired?
Not exactly getting a warm fuzzy feeling from this thread. I pre-ordered online. Starting to think I might want to cancel that and just wait for it at Best Buy, if even the Samsung tablets are having build quality issues.
Oh no. I was afraid these reports would begin to surface on the 10.1. Some of these issues described Ive seen in the 10.1v as well, although my biggest gripe with these is the severe backlight bleeding. I have now exchanged this device with Vodafone AU twice and seen a total of 6 units and all have had backlight bleeding and inconsistent build quality.
With the first unit I received both right corners of the screen were popping out over the bezel a little. I believed it to be a problem with the adhesive used, because if you were to put pressure on the corner it would hold for a second then release, and you could hear the "sticky" sound as the adhesive separated.
All the units I've sampled though have had really shocking problems with backlight bleeding/leakage. If you're someone who planned to watch movies on this tablet in dimly lit rooms, you could find this distracting. I do. Its a shame really because I otherwise like the quality of the display, and both 10.1 models are nicely designed and nice to hold. In a lot of ways I prefer the feel of the 10.1v over the iPad 2. Too bad though that the build quality is questionable across the range of what is now 3 different variants of the 10.1 that Samsung has produced. What's the deal Samy?!
I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet but most likely I'll return this 10.1v to Vodafail for a refund and wait it out for the 8.9. Perhaps I'll have better luck then?

Had it for 1 whole day. THe quanlity feels cheap. New honey comb ui is good and very impressive. When I restart the tranformer at night, I saw at least 8 birght spots on my screen. So decied to return it to amazon. But I don't have the speaker problem.
Mine does not feel cheap. Feels well put together. Some people think it feels cheap because it has a plastic back. That to me doesn't mean it is cheap. I don't need metal to feel something is quality.
If you had problems with it creaking and seems like you had problems with the screen, I assure you that is not how it is supposed to be. RMA.
Quanlity ........ Lol.........something wrong with the keyboard too?

Mine creaks a bit and may give the impression of not being solidly built, but in my opinion, it's a really nice tablet.
Tired of these threads. If u don't like, just go away. It's a $399 tablet and build quality is excellent for a $399 tablet. Maybe some company will release a tablet for twice the price one day made out of carbon fiber, but who the hell cares if it does the exact same thing as a $399 tablet. Lets get over this once and for all. Next, everyone will be saying that its not good enough because it doesn't have tegra 3 chipset or it doesn't run Windows 8 or it doesn't make pancakes. The TF is a great tablet that many of us love and anyone who doesn't probably should just get an iPad 2 or wait for the iPad 3 or just avoid tablets altogether...

Indeed a little bit overdone to start a thread for this, but I must agree, the TF has some common issues, which keep me from saying that it's a real quality product. (Speaker problem, accelerometer not calibrated, backlight bleeding, dust under screen, dead touchzones, ...)

Don't be tired of these threads, everyone has the right to say what he thinks.
I had the Transformer for a day and had to send it back.
The quality of my Transformer was disappointing. The Upper rigth corner of the touch screen was not in line with the other corners, it was lower by 3 mm that the metal frame. The back was 3mm above the metal frame.
Not to speak that i could see through the hole between the touch screen and the metal frame.
So i think that those who got a good Transformer should be happy. But not all of them are great, in fact i think that the quality control was nonexistent.
NOT EVERYONE GOT A PERFECT TRANSFORMER!!!!!
If you did get o good one it does not mean the problems you hear about and you are tired off are not there.
I sent mine back and now i am waiting to get a replacement.
i have slight creaking only in the very edge of the top right an bottom left corner but its only a little other wise the build is good not cheap

Because they are butthurt and want to nag to other people to make themselves feel better.
By the way, if the OP wants good build quality you should pick up an iPad 2, they are half metal and feel sturdy. Just don't sell one of your kidneys like that kid.
yeah agree...why need to create another new thread ?? just find a related thread and post in it. next time another thread like this appear, can consider it as spam/troll
Oddly the demo units at staples feel like they were built like a tank. No creak or flex. Very solid despite plastic back.
I am on my fourth and waiting for my 5th TF.
EACH has suffered light bleed with the most recent one being the best so far.
However while it was solid on day one it now is creaking along the top left and right corners and a bit on the right side. If unit number five is no better they all go back and I get a Samsung. The dock for me is not so important as a laptop owner that I will accept such poor build quality.
my ipad 1 bought a year ago has no bleed no creaks after a year of use. The demo units in 3 stores of the transformer were all solid so I know Asus can build them well but likely make different units better made to be used as demos.
I suspect this as o e staples store who had just got product in and had not had their demo put out yet would not let me buy their demo unit.

My gf's Galaxy Tab is solid as any tab I've ever handled, so therefore I think all Galaxy Tabs are perfect and you have the only bad one.
Sarcasm (not directed at you personally), hopefully it was duly noted The TF has some bad batches, I think that's obvious. You can say, "Oh it's just a small number on XDA!" but you can probably use this small sample and apply it to the entire user base and come up with an idea of the amount of defective units. Sounds like the early batches were rushed out the door to meet a deadline and demand.
Mine is pretty solid. Creaky, one spot of light bleed, but tolerable for the cheapest HC tablet, and I love it like I'd love my first born, if I had a first born. Still the best deal out there.

Yeah, Galaxy Tab 10.1 is supposed to be really thin but I still don't want it.
Compared to the Transformer it's more expensive, no expandable memory, no IPS display, and build is plastic just like our Eee Pads.
Honestly the Transformer has a few bugs, Honeycomb too... but overall you cannot beat this thing, no contest when you consider cost.
TF101FTW!
I was pretty happy with the overall design of the tablet but their quality control does leave a bit to be desired. I've had 2 tablets and both have a defect. One was light bleed and the most recent one came with a broken power button.
I'm not sure if I should keep trying replacements or call it quits on Asus.

Indeed a little bit overdone to start a thread for this, but I must agree, the TF has some common issues, which keep me from saying that it's a real quality product. (Speaker problem, accelerometer not calibrated, backlight bleeding, dust under screen, dead touchzones, ...)

i agree. it's not high quality, but good enough quality for the price - compared to the current market price for higher end android tablets.
I thought there was a lot of people with the screen bleeding issue? The way you guys make it sound that the screen be perfect. Unfortunately I noticed I got some serious bleeding myself. I just cant figure out if it's worth RMA and all that. It might take forever for KMART to get anymore back in stock.
I thought I read a lot of people had the issue also. It doesnt bother me at all really, but one of these posts made me feel that I should exchange it ASAP
I really love the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 but I had to return my third tab in a row and this time for a full refund. The first one came with scratches on the screen and the tab appeared to be used with finger tips and dust. The second came clean but with the newton's ring issue in the center of the screen. The third one came with dust under screen, right in the center, like a big dead pixel, a big scratch in the left arra and the package inside was really dirty. I'm tired, tired of the trips to BB and tired of 's quality control ineptitude. I will never consider Samsung again.
When I was returning the third one, there were two persons returning their galaxy tabs as well for similar issues. This is sad because it's a really good tab but the quality issues will kill this product of the market.

I have had the opposite experience. I went through 5 Asus Transformers over 2 months just trying to get one that didn't have light bleed before giving up and purchasing a Galaxy Tab 10.1. I read with white text on a black background so any light bleed tends to be distracting.
It was a night and day difference. My Galaxy Tab is flawless from a quality control standpoint.
This is just my experience...

May I humbly suggest you quit shopping at that Best Buy? I think some employees may be taking liberties...
Same here great experience and mine was an open box item at BB haha

No problems with mine either, I smell a troll.
All in all The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is an excellent device IMHO! I have had no issues with mine. I know several people that have one and neither of those have no issues either.

I'd lean more towards this as well... Seems more like BB is selling returned units without being refurbished. Take your issues with them, not Samsung
I rolled the dice and purchased an "open item" 32gb tab from bestbuy. I couldnt pass up the deal at the price of $554 out the dour with taxes. Still comes with the 14 day return and samsung warranty. It had the newton ring when i unpacked it but i managed to get rid of it and has not came back since. Couldnt be happier with my purchase.
I would ignore ignorant post. I returned mine as well. I was playing flash video heavily then then color started to bleed/smear. Reboot didnt help. Very very sad with quality!

NO problems with my gt!
Sounds like more of a problem with Best Buy.

+1 . Me humbly thinks so too.
Dont blame samsung for buying open box items. If you didnt know they were open box then you got scammed. Sorry. Best Buy sells returns as new all the time I used to work there long ago.
There are some cheap shady best buys and there are great ones. It all depends on management

Just wanted to point out that scratches and fingerprints are signs of it being previously used and does not constitute as poor built quality. More like poor store quality. Best Buy sucks btw. Never had any issues with Newegg and Amazon.
Sent from my badass Galaxy Tab 10.1.
i don't think its Samsung it might be the store your getting them from I was in best buy and sat there and watched them sell a guy the same one I returned because of bad pixel
I went through 3 SG10.1 and looked at 3 different display models at 2 different bestbuys and frys...... they all had some quality issues.
THEY ALL HAD dust under the glass
SOME had dead pixels
ONE had oil mark under the glass
ONE had a weird surface lifting on the back cover
I believe the quality issues are based on the owners...some of us are really sensitive to flaws
Hey all,
I am on my 3rd Iconia now.. The first one had a couple dead pixels, the second one creaked like mad and could flex way too much (I believe someone put the backing up improperly), now, this new unit the bottom edge of the glass can be pushed down about 1/16th of an inch, it feels slightly loose and a bit different from the top glass. I notice this especially in the middle of the bottom edge and to the right of the bottom edge.
Does anyone else notice that if you push near the bottom edge of the glass (opposite side of the volume rocker, I'd call the volume rocker the top) the glass bends/gives a tiny bit in the middle and the right edge?
All in all, I do not think this will cause any issues, it could even be designed that way on purpose as the speakers are behind this area in the glass.
Thoughts? I really don't feel like returning a 3rd unless it's necessary (I've set these things up 3 times now!)
I really appreciate anyone chiming in with their own Iconia's findings,
Autom8r
Return it. Mine does none of that. Check your new one in the store before you take it home.
UGH! Not even a little give on the bottom edge? I can't believe I may have to get a 4th unit.. how the heck can these be so different unit to unit? Seeing as the last 3 I've had had defects, I may just stick with this one as this defect is minor and unless the screen falls off, there is no effect from this defect.
I am slapping it in a case today, and I may just mentally ignore it. I like this tablet a lot more than the other Android tablets, the sound is awesome and the speed is good too.
I feel so stupid going back for a 4th lol...
Mine does not do that either, I'd say you should go back for your 4th one, man thats a bummer. Sorry to hear about your troubles sir.
Alright, it's official, I am going back for a 4th tablet... wow. For those who have no problems, can you please check the build date of your tablet? I will try to get one around the same build date. Mine was built in May 2011, I guess I should look for something more recently built.

Thanks, I wonder why these are so hit or miss! Dangit....
Solid
Mine is solid as a rock.
Not sure where to find the build date but I have none of those issues with mine. I played with the wife's and none of that on hers either. In fact she uses hers a lot more than me.

got mine in late april and it's spongy at the bottom center like you said. on the far edges, the glass is lower than the bottom aluminum piece, but in the center, it's higher. Mines been that way for a couple of months. i didn't notice it until after the 14-day return period.
Actually all the display models felt exactly like mine when pressed in the same spots, I think it is normal, so convinced I didn't bother trading in. I'm gunna need a cases anyway so its a moot point then regardless! Cheers!
Same here with mine, no movement I mean. The glass is solid as a rock all the way round the frame
Take it back, and keep going until you get a good one, they are faaaaaar too expensive to accept low build quality.
odd
Have a May 2011 build on mine according to the box - no strange issues like you are reporting.
You may qualify as the most unlucky person ever, four tabs with build quality issues is pretty damn unlucky
actually they all give in these spots I assume you guys are pushing right on the edge, if you press about half an inch above the edge you will see flex. All the display models did this too, it is a non issue to me now cheers!
under alot of light check closely
My tab has movement in the same area.if you look really closely.for me it looks as thou its the allumn that is moving not so much the display.thoui can see how it seems tto be the glass
Hope you see the same after second look.I would worry about the glass.this so called allumn tab
Is plastic with a very thin allumn skin. Yes I had One apart.
Got mine during the $100 off about 3 1/2 weeks ago.
Build date is July. No flexing on mine.
I see many people complaining about the charger having a short cord.
Mine is 5 feet. Were the older ones shorter?

Nope. That's what we all got - a cheapo extension cord fixes that "issue"
Absolutely no spongy on mine. Rock solid with no problems what so ever. Love this tablet. April 2011 build.
Mine's loose, too
I apologize for reviving this old thread but is this "sponginess" in the area near the docking connector common and tolerated? Mine does it after only three days (holding it mostly vertical). It was tight as drum when I bought it and I can see how this could be attributed to material fatigue when one holds the tab by the long thin aluminum edge. It feels like the edge is slowly giving way and bending.
