If your having problems getting the 10.1 recognised by a PC - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Hi Guys
I recently acquired one of the 10.1 LE's and immediately ran into problems with my PC refusing to recognize the Tab. I searched high and low for a solution, including installing Kies, the USB drivers and ever other mad trick people suggested, but nothing worked.
What made this even worse was the Tab would charge while plugged into the PC, so the cable must have been working... well that assumption was wrong, read on.
I live in the UK and the Tab 10.1 is not available here yet, but I realised the 7" Tab appeared to have the same charger and usb cable, so I took a chance and purchased one of these, suddenly everything started working and my PC picks up the tab.
So the moral of the story is, if your does not work neither, try a different cable

What do to when one only has one cable. Where might I get another? Have tried to connect to two different computers already. Tab give notification but no reaction from computers. Kies will not transfer videos. Will contact Samsung support.
Have already downloaded device usb drivers from Samsung. Let Kies look for drivers but no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Tab showed connect one time, but pc wouldn't react. Window 7 64-bit and XP service pack 3.

Turn off USB Debugging!!!!! You're computer will not recognize your device if debugging is on. Turn it off.

[SOLVED] HELP! Windows can't recognize the phone anymore

This is a new problem for me.
After successfully sorting out all the troubles of connecting SGS to KIES, and been using it happily for almost a month, now I'm facing another trouble which is quite big this time.
Windows Vista (32-bit) and Windows 7 (64-bit) are now can't recognize the phone when connected through the USB. Got a message says the USB Device/Hardware Is Not Recognized.
I'm using the SGS original cable. The cable was working perfectly and now suddenly it doesn't work in data mode but still able to recharge the phone battery.
Am I having a cable problem? Or worst, the USB connector (on the phone) problem? I tried to clean the USB connector on the phone but still can't connect the phone to my computers.
Does anybody here having the same problem as well?
I just gave up with my PC, same problem
In then end I set up a VMware XP machine to sync
Else I use my laptop
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
I sometimes have a problem with KIES detecting my phone. What I sometimes have to do is connect the phone with KIES loaded, go to device manager, show hidden devices then uninstall the phone (sometimes has error on device, sometimes not) then disconnect then reconnect phone.
Such a faff but using KIES to check for firmware update lol
This may not help ya but worth a thought, Im on Win7 64
I did not have any problem connecting the phone to KIES, I was able to upgrade the firmware from JF4 to JG4, and been a happy SGS owner for a month now.
But yesterday I suddenly can't connect the phone to any computers. My laptop (Win Vista 32-bit) said that a USB device connected is not recognized. I reinstall Kies in my laptop and same thing happen. Then I switch to my PC (Win7 64-bit), USB device not recognized also appear. Reinstall Kies, still no luck.
What I just realized is that there is NO USB Indicator in the SGS notification bar!
Does that mean that the USB connector on the phone going bad?
I still able to recharge the battery but the USB icon dont show up.
I am now seriously considering the quality of Samsung Galaxy S! Way too much problems for average owner, and even for savvy owners this is just over the top!
What should I do now?
Find another computer or install VMWear and see once and for all if its your phone at fault. Also worst case do a factory reset. If no go then you might have a hardware problem. You could always try Mass Storage mode and see if you can mount the phone as external drive. Its not really the phones fault but I would say its KIES, its just a piece of ****. I have never been able to connect to it using 3 computers and I would say I know what i'm doing since I work in i.t. Also did you replace your Launcher recently? As KIES needs TouchWhiz as default launcher to work
I just tried to connect SGS to another laptop (Win XP 32-bit SP3, no KIES though). Same thing, the USB device is not recognized baloon show up and no USB indicator in the SGS status bar.
I'm going to Samsung Service Center, after calling them, they suggest me to bring the phone to the nearest Samsung Center. They said that this is not the first time and also said that the problem might be the connector or the cable.
have you read this ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8107646&postcount=50
Seems kies has a bug where it can't work with files with 16chrs or more.. Told ya KIES is a piece of ****
Yes, But did you try the Mass storage mode
Settings/About/USB
I always just use Mass Storage mode to xfer files. KIES is crap.
As I said previously, my SGS has no problem at all connecting to Kies. USB Mass storage is working perfectly as well.
The problem I'm having now is the hardware (the cable or the interface) I guess, since I still can recharge the phone using the charger or the USB cable.
ps. I'm using Kies from Australia, the 1.5.1.10083.
Have you looked at the pins on the phone? are they screwed? Can you somehow find or burrow another Mini-Usb cable to test ? I have heaps as some of my external hdd's use mini-usb but you might have to buy a new cable.
Try this.. I wrote this a while back.. It may help. I know you suspect it's hardware, but it might be worth trying anyway.

Thanks for the help guys!
It's purely hardware problem. Yesterday I brought it to local Samsung Service Center, and because they said this is not the first timer, the technician quickly open the device and gosh... dust and some fungus were collected near the microUSB port! I admit I never close the USB port, just left it open after use, my bad!
After some cleaning and testing, the microUSB is working again.
Now I'm a happy SGS user again!
but that doesn't explain how it works on one Windows (Win7) but not on another Windows (WinXP)

The SGS wasn't recognized in ALL Windows versions, since it was a hardware problem.
Now SGS is recognized in ALL Windows versions.
download "usbdeview" and delete the usb drivers for the specific device.

Driver Installation Issues

I am trying to install the Samsung Intercept (Virgin Mobile) on my Windows 7 netbook. I could never connect the device before to either WinXP or Win7. I recently factory reset my phone and after installing the drivers on WinXP, the phone showed that it was connected. I mounted the SD card to the computer and it never showed the drive. I unmounted and disconnected and since then it never connected. I keep getting that it's not recognized.
On my Win7 computer, I installed the drivers (had to force Windows to find the driver). Now the computer senses that it's connected, but it says "the device cannot be started". So I'm thinking that my P.O.S. phone can't figure out wtf USB mode is. It showed it once and that's it.
I've tried probably 3 or 4 different drivers and now I can't figure out how to just start clean. I don't even think I need to because the computer driver installed fine (It says Samsung USB Android whatever when it's connected). I tried with USB debugging on and off.
I even tried to make a virtual Windows XP to try it on a fresh install, but VM won't take unknown USB devices.
I uninstalled all my drivers, even the USB hub drivers, rebooted after the uninstall. No luck.
Before I reinstalled the hub I tried to force XP to the drivers (different ones not the same driver over and over) and now its saying "the file does not contain any information about this device". WTF?!
I'm so confused with this stupid driver that I can't take it anymore. I'm now considering reformatting my computer, but it's not worth it just to root a phone. I'd rather put up with my phone needing a battery pull at least once a day than to lose all my files.

I had the same issue too.
Have you tried using another USB cable? If you're using the cable that came with the phone it wont work (well sometimes). What you can do is find or buy another Micro USB cable for your intercept. You can buy one off amazon for less than $10. I brought mine from Best buy for $20. It works fantastically.

I was seriously considering another cable because I read in some other threads pretty much what you just told me, but I guess I was one of those "on the twelth time it finally connects" type of situations. I connected it last night and it worked. Just need to update my SDK stuff, make sure I have all my info for SuperOneClick, and cross my fingers lol!
Thank you for your advice. If it stops working I'm gettilng a new cable.
[EDIT] and it stopped working... I knew I should've just rooted when I had it connected, but I wanted to back my stuff up. Looks like I'm getting a new cable lol.

[EDIT] You were totally right! It's the cable. I got a Belkin for $15 at Target. I plugged it in and immediately Windows 7 Pro 32-bit detected the drivers, the handset, and installed it. Now time for rooting
I know it's been a couple of months, but I'm curious if you've had any other problems with connecting?
I was having the same problem and I had a few cables that I tried with no luck. I also tried my wife's Blackberry cable, which is a thicker cable that claims to be a "DATA" cable...no go.
I probably will just go buy the Belkin one you referred to if you've had no other problems.
Thanks!

I actually have had no problems (on my Win7 PC) since the install. As for my XP computer, I just gave up on trying to get it to work. Try completely uninstalling every instance of the Samsung programs (I went through my registry *dangerous*) and all things Android and reboot to a fresh power cycle (like with the phone) so Windows can update all its important files reguarding the driver removal. Then install and THEN plugin.
It literally randomly worked for me. I had the drivers installed properly, but the charging cord gave me "bad driver install". I didn't change a thing and plugged in wth the Belkin and was good to go.
Hope you can get it working! I know the anticipation of phone modding, and I love it! Lol!

Ditto, ditto and ditto! I have the same thing with my intercept, except I started on win7/64, could not get anything going. Then created an XP VM - over my dead body - no go.
Using the same cable, if I plug in my Captivate, everything comes up.
For you guys, when you bought a different cable, what did you buy? micro-to-micro USB? Or something else?
J
I usually use the cables that came with my HTC phones. Also I have better luck if I reboot the phone prior to connecting it to the PC.

Cant connect samsung S1 to PC

Hi,
I'm having a real though time trying to connect my galaxy s1 to a pc. Have tried everything, like kies, direct connection, reseted the device, and no joy.
When I plug the cable it makes that sound as it is connecting but it doesn't show in the PC anywhere, nor even in Device manager.
It can get pwr from the usb cable when is connected; already tried with another cable and same thing.
My final goal is to unlock it.
thanks for any help
have you tried put yoy're phone in depurating mode?
I guess yo mean Debugging mode, as I couldn't found Depurating anywhere. Have selected it and the same effect
HI
I had the same problem after getting nowhere with it, for some reason and I don"t know why, I put it in download mode and then connected it to odin and my PC found it I then disconected it and its been fine eversince.

Hi there.
By direct connection you mean the USB Mass Storage mode, right?
It might be some weird, random problem with the samsung system drivers. I used to have such problems about two years ago, back in the days of Froyo. Have you tried re-installing them? There was a link to proper drivers file in one ICS installation tutorial, and those drivers can be downloaded here. If you go about trying this method, lemme know if it worked.
Cheers.
PS: Unlike diklooc there suggested, do not never EVER go back to x86 OS. That's the worst advice. Kapisch?
Did you check your usb port in System ?
Sometimes it stuck with another lastest device
Hi,
have tried everything, and finally only in a WinXP32 could be abble to get the error shown on the file atached.
But nothing (warnings) come up in Device Manager
Unninstalled everything (kies) and tried to install only the driver and nothing happens.
Should I try to mount it on a linux?
or is it dead?
thanks
i have this problem too
wat chan I do???
my sgs can not connect to my PC

Hi there - I don't have the same phone as you, but I did encounter the exact same problem. I've been searching around and it looks like the most common fix was to simply replace the cable. I don't know what kind of cable you have, but my phone (a Samsung Focus i917) uses a mini-usb connector. I found that my Amazon Kindle used the same connector.
When I was using the Samsung cable, I'd get intermittent connects and charge power. The OS would report unknown device. When I switched computer's = same result. I switched to my Kindle cable and the computer instantly recognized the device and installed the drivers. After 12 hours of troubleshooting, factory resetting my phone (blah - lost everything) it turned out to be the cable. I know that this isn't an easy troubleshooting step for most people, because who has an extra cable? I just got lucky that my Kindle uses the same connector. I'm now suspecting (due to the prevalence of this connectivity problem coming from people with Samsung phones - there are a LOT of reported issues) that there is probably a Samsung cable problem in general.
Good luck with your phone.

Nasdriver, I currently have a similar problem but mine is related with Samsung Kies as I can't get either my older SGS1 or my newer Samsung Nexus to get recognized by Kies. I also suspected the cable thing and even read it could be a USB port issue but neither of them was my problem (I have 3 cables and 8 ports on 2 computers that result in the same thing). I can connect other devices with the same cables and they work, so I suspect my problem is focused around the Samsung device drivers.
My advice is if you can go in a systematic manner, first focus on the cable (easiest to replace), if you get the same results with a new cable, then focus on the USB physical port, clean it with some Isopropyl alcohol, if the port works for other devices (camera, other phones, etc..) on the same cable but not with the SGS, then try reinstalling the samsung device drivers.
Oh, and if you want to unlock your phone, the EASY way is to download the Galaxy S Unlock application from the Android market (no affiliation) it's free (but the developer does accept donations) and it WORKS. I won't bore you with my 3 week journey trying to unlock my Bell SGS phone here in Canada, had I found this app first I would have done it in less then 2 min saved myself a LOT of frustration.
Good luck

My Galaxy S4 won't stay connected to the computer via USB

Hey all. Just got my Galaxy S4 today and I was loving everything about it until... right now. For some reason, the darn USB won't stay connected to the computer. It doesn't matter if it's simply plugged into the computer as an "installer" or as a media device. It'll constantly disconnect and reconnect itself, even when I'm not transferring any files.
It's not the my computer/USB ports, either, since I can transfer files between my HTC Thunderbolt and Nexus 7 fine. I've also tested 2 other USB cables and they all behave the same way.
Anyone know what's going on? Did I get a lemon?
No im in the same boat. Was trying ti connect in today. I reinstalled and un installed the drivers about 4 times. Tried un selecting usb debugging in developers menu. Installed kies and used the drivers from it still no good. Used 3 different usb leads. Phone will still charge from pc and even when im installing the drivers again and connect the phone it will say that your new device is ready to use but still cant access phone, it simply does not show up.
Wouldn mind was working 2 days ago fine. Same usb port and all. And the port is fine cause my old s3 still reads from the same port.

Same problem
I have also been dealing with this for a while now. I have Windows 7 64bit and I have reinstalled the drivers many times through Kies and manually. It seems like the problem is getting worse since initially I could do some file transfer through usb if i fiddled with the device (changing usb ports, unplugging it, etc). Now I am hard pressed to get it to show up on the computer through MTP at all.
This is quite annoying since I am developing an android app and I need a usb connection in order to test it. A fix would be awesome.
I just tested on my sister's laptop and it doesn't have this problem. I clicked around the phone, transferred a 10gb movie, and left it plugged in to see if there were any signs of disconnects. None whatsoever. Odd. Maybe Galaxy S4 just doesn't like something with our computers. This is quite annoying.
I have a fresh Windows 7 64-bit partition I installed the other day so I'll test it out on that and report the results later today.

Oops, missed your post. Unfortunately, it disconnects regardless of the phone's state.
My friend's S4 was doing the same thing on his desktop. Every time he would try to transfer pics the phone would disconnect after a few files.
I tried different things from reinstalling drivers to trying to only copy over a couple of files at a time, nothing worked.
Finally I plugged his phone into one of the back usb ports and transferred over 2gb with no problem and no disconnects since.
My guess is the S4 is a power hog and some usb ports just don't supply enough juice. Try plugging it in to a usb port that comes off a motherboard. Don't use the front ports or usb hubs. Hope this helps someone.

I've been trying all kinds of different combinations of USB leads, phone settings and ports all morning and was just about getting ready to start a new Olympic sport of S4 hurling when I came across this post and plugged my USB straight into the back of my machine and it finally works!! Thank you dirrtpoor for your input - a simple fix, but nevertheless it worked.:good:
I suppose it makes sense that a quad core 1.9Ghz phone would be a power hog.
It wouldn't work on my home PC whatever I tried. Front or back USB ports.
On my dads PC sometimes it would display OK and other times "usb device has malfunctioned" (didn't try the rear USB port)
On my work PC it works fine on the rear ports.
I was having the same problem a few days ago, but then I reformatted the SD card, now everything seems OK.
Even the stock gallery app works now...?!

I finally went into developer options and noticed a "USB Debugging - Debugging mode launches when USB is connected" was turned on. I de-selected that, connected my phone and now my computer recognizes it again. I hope that helps guys, it helped me.

This may be laughably obvious but I'm a former Apple user, which has it's own dedicated USB connector, so I forget sometimes with the Samsung S4, which has a standard (looking) micro USB connector that I need a USB cable that is enabled for syncing as well as charging...not all USB cords with micro connectors on the phone end will carry the data because I imagine Samsung has made their phone's connector require a different wiring in the cable.
I was pulling my hair out yesterday trying to figure out why the computer wouldn't see the phone..then looked at the USB cable and realized I'd plugged a non-syncing cable in. I tried the cable that came with the phone and bingo, worked like it was supposed to.
Hope this helps, sometimes it's the little things we overlook that drive us nuts.
Any way to connect in master storage with out root.

[Q] Note 3, Windows 7, USB Device not recognized

Yet another instance of "USB Device not recognized" with the Note 3.
To save both you and me some time, I've tried every possible solution online. Tried reinstalling drivers, with Kies, without Kies, with universal android drivers, with toolkits, with anything. At some point, while having nothing else but Wondershare MobileGO for Android installed, it found it properly. But next time I connected, nothing. The phone doesn't give any sign of being connected to a pc other than charging (so goodbye "pull down the menu and change between mtp/ptp" solutions) and the pc simply says that the device has malfunctioned and cannot be recognized. I've tried 4 different pcs with ~6 ports each, no luck. I randomly tried on my gf's father's laptop, perfect connection, recognition, immediate installation of Samsung's drivers. So it's not Note's problem, it's my pc's. But the only thing the 4 pc's in my house have in common is Kaspersky, which i tried disabling and completely exiting between my tries.
Please help me, I've lost my sleep and my patience...
Looks like a bad usb connector on the phone after all. The phone is at a Samsung service point.
