I'm wondering if the hole above the volume rocker is for like a key chain or something? Or it's just randomly there lol.

Noise cancelling mic?
Yea like a camera strap kinda thing ...
I used the lanyard from a Wiimote sometimes. When I go to Six Flags, I'll use it to record the rides. lol. But ya that's what its for.
Alright cool thanks, so any kind of lanyard can be used?
You hook the wrist strap on the little nib inside the phone and feed it through the hole.
+ under the batt cover
thank you for this :]

Guys,
My Epic's keyboard seems a bit "crackly" lately... when I type on it, it sounds like there's maybe a layer of plastic or saran rap or something underneath it, like a potato chip bag or something.
When I run my finger lightly over the keys, there's a crinkling noise, as if if I was crinkling a plastic bag between my fingers.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I have not experienced this. Perhaps there are pot smoking pixies hiding in your phone leaving tostido crumbs behind?
Nothing here. Although I never use the physical keyboard. I would really like another Galaxy S variant on Sprint so I could have a lighter phone without a keyboard.

Is it just me, or does anybody else find themselves occasionally holding the phone upside down and firmly pressing the speaker grill? I know it's offset, but still unfortunate positioning!

Knock on wood...Haven't happen to me yet (1 week old)
I had that thought, and when I first got the phone, it happened 90% of the time.
Then I bought a 6 dollar case off ebay, a rubbery-like one. And now the unlock part has a raised bump. Now I never do.
This thread has been amusing lol... glad to hear I'm not the only one who did it. My biggest concern was damaging the thing, but it doesn't seem to be too fragile, fortunately. Like others, I got used to positioning/feel of the actual button so I haven't done it in a while.
Guilty as charged. Ive done it about half a dozen times. Lol at this thread!
First off this could break your speaker, do this at your own risk.
I have tested this on 2 EVO's with completely "blown" speakers, they both now sound absolutely perfect. From what i can tell, it's a lot of built up metal shavings, they weigh the speaker cone down and prevent it from making the true desired frequency.
You will need a earth magnet, or a really strong regular one will do i guess,(I used a earth mag tho)
First issue: you have to take the phone apart, from there, remove speaker,
(has been covered on youtube so go a lookin)
Now.. take the speaker, sweet diagram huh?(its late) and drop it, foam side down, from about 3 or 4 inches onto the magnet. Repeat. You will see the shavings coming off the speaker and sticking to the earth magnet.
Do it for a few minutes or until the metal shavings are all gone.
Re-assemble, click your favorite player and enjoy!!
I will try to get a tutorial on youtube soon..
u might wanna add a disclaimer as some waterhead is gonna do this and toast their evo!

Why not since you have it apart and risk damaging the speaker by screwing up the polarity of the speakers magnet just drop in a brand new speaker. They can be picked up for a few bucks.

Im on my third speaker in a year, and who want's to wait two weeks for the speaker to get from china? Did another friend's this am, zero problems. I can see where you would think this may cause a problem, but it doesn't, Sound is restored to perfect.
Just trying to pass on what has worked 3 times for me. I would prefer fixing rather than replacing, i assume others would too.
I see this all the time at my store, especially those who work outside and around machinery.
Had one guy blow 3 in two weeks before we finally sat him down and explained in detail exactly why it was doing it before he finally wised up.
just take it to sprint they will replace it for free and do it right there

I work on Evos with broken screw seals. For the average customer, it means they've had it worked on before and the sticker wasn't replaced.
Thanks so much. after having the evo over a year and putting it on my work bench. I never thought about the metal shavings from screws getting in. Works as new
i'll give this a try soon.

I don't see why it wouldn't, obviously the idea is that the earth magnet is WAY stronger than the speakers magnet allowing it to pull away the shavings, give it a shot and report back!

Well it will change the entire dynamics of the intended design... therefore changing frequency, depth, and volume. Speakers are designed to push... not pull. If they pull, it will more or less push the sound into whatever it's housing is.

NOPE!!!!!!!!!!!
I speak portuguese, but you dont need to understand everything.... the only thig that i says that is important is that the side with the triggers was just done and that after a day it would loses its white marks and became like the other
I have my play for a year now and it is in pretty bad state.... the construction quality is not the best...
and what more I care about is the power button because it is pretty much gone, I'm using apps to lock the screen and the home button to unlock...
found out that some one used a nail file to fix it, so I tried and it was better for the first 3 presses.... I noticed that the light was passing though the part I sanded down, so I did the same on the whole button.
I think It looks pretty cool and all the button lights up and catches more attention..
when its off, it is ice/transparent with the power icon in the middle...
########Update########
I'm the kind of guy that has no limits, if I something cool, I keep doing it till it finishes bad... but not this time!! I sanded down the side that has no triggers and it looks like a very dark wood with a lovely texture on it... have to fell it...
Tip. Try to do it all ways in the same direction, along the side so that you have these tiny lines right. Or use a very smooth(?) /for more delicate things sand paper and don't put any pressure on it...

That's so badass, I'm filing mine down right now even though my button works fine. It's looking awesome
I can't imagine why they covered up most of the LED to begin with...
I'm going to do that. I sanded down my other buttons so they're now black. Never thought to do the power button.

How can filing down the surface of a button make any difference to its responsiveness? surely the problem lies beneath the button with the connector?
I agree with you on the build quality. My power button hasn't gone yet but its probably on its way out. It didn't work at all a couple of days ago until I kept pressing it and luckily went back to normal normal responsiveness after that, can't be a good sign though. That and the R trigger on my device has lost its springiness, it goes down with little to no effort now. Still raises back to the surface so I suppose I should count myself lucky.
Looks cool anyway and might make it so the LED light can actually be seen in normal circumstances.
So if I sand down my power button it will make it do that? GENIUS. I never thought of that. Time to go find a nail filer.
Sweet. Going to try this in a few
I just tried it out, and the power button felt a bit weird so I licked my finger and got it a little wet, but with the case on you don't even feel it. But my god, it looks 100x better. Thank you dude.

I think the R button loses its springiness because of the way the phone is held. At least when I hold it its usually being pressed.
To get back on topic, how is the surface of the power button when sanded?

Not to go off topic again but I had to replace the back cover underneath the battery. As the triggers started to get sticky and not move as they looked liked they were pressed all the way down. So bought a new backing and bang... works like like new. Now.... back to our regular scheduled topic on hand.
I did this last night... so much nicer to finally see the danger led as the whole button rather then what looks like a pin needle

Use something like this
You can find this on nail cutter or swiss army multipurpose knife. Gently scrub it on your power button. You can use sand paper also which you can find it on any hardware store, but I don't prefer sand paper because the sand will come off and run into your device

The cover is really, really annoying. Especially for me, who uses bluetooth through my car speakers for my main music stuff. So each time I get in the car I plug the phone into the 12 volt. And each time, I have to pry open that cover. The worst part is, it doesn't even stay open! I also just got my Incipio dual layer protection case in the mail and now its even harder to get the charging cover off. It's really aggravating. I don't even think it closes correctly either. It always looks like its not snapped down all the way. Just, bleh. Most annoying quirk on the 4 Samsung phones I've owned.
just get the spare battery charge kit so you never have to mess with it. Its also a better means of going from zero to 100 than wireless charger

Yeah I'm not really sure what to do here. I have a bunch of 3D models for phone docks / car docks / etc for the gs3 and gs4, the battery cover is a total nuisance on the gs5, especially because it doesn't really stay open after you open it (I'm trying to imagine how to go about designing a dock for this thing).
I do 3D modeling and have a 3D printer, if anyone has an idea for an improvement... holler. I doubt we'll see any kind of other 3rd party replacement otherwise as it's attached to the phone and clearly involved with waterproofing. not sure if it's worth the trade-off!
anywho guess I'll be giving wireless charging a try again...

Yeah definitely good that it's easy to do that - personally I'm not really upset or frustrated; it's awesome to add waterproofing - I'm just trying to puzzle out the best way to keep the feature while also making the phone easy to slide into a dock (preferably with one hand), you know?
