Crinkling Keyboard? - Epic 4G General

Guys,
My Epic's keyboard seems a bit "crackly" lately... when I type on it, it sounds like there's maybe a layer of plastic or saran rap or something underneath it, like a potato chip bag or something.
When I run my finger lightly over the keys, there's a crinkling noise, as if if I was crinkling a plastic bag between my fingers.
Anyone else experiencing this?

I have not experienced this. Perhaps there are pot smoking pixies hiding in your phone leaving tostido crumbs behind?

Nothing here. Although I never use the physical keyboard. I would really like another Galaxy S variant on Sprint so I could have a lighter phone without a keyboard.

When I slide my fingers lightly I can see where your coming from but not as I type. You might have a problem...
Could be time to clean out the crumbs. Lol! Jk

Yes my keyboard 'crinkles' or sounds a bit crunchy sometimes. Its noticable somedays more than others. One of the perks of a all plastic keyboard! :\

Need to water proof my vibrant

in a week I'm gonna be going to a concert. I need to get my phone waterproof prior to the concert. I'm gonna go cheap easy and efficient. my initial idea was use 2 condoms just to prevent liquid from getting in on the phone. then I started to think I'll need the camera to take pictures and video but theres condoms covering the camera and taking away from the clarity. Its there any easy easy way to achieve this.

Isnt there lube in most condoms ? Wouldn't that mess up something? It's been a while since I used one, probably explains my three kids existing

Yes, most do. But, you can get "dry" condoms. Problem with those is that they really aren't clear.
Double seal ziploc bag would do the OP better.
(see, this post/thread has nothing to do with modding...hehe)
Yeah.. I was going to say not go the the ones with lube lol...
That would be funny
A good clean Saran Wrap job may work. Its Cheap to try. Test it out. It may cost you a few feet of clear plastic wrap. a couple layers may do the trick
shrink wrap like you put over your window in the winter time at least those of us who live up north

Funny but you might have better luck burning the seams closed with a lighter rather than trusting the ziplock itself old school baggie style

A vacuum sealer (the ones for food)...they heat seal. Or dip it in hot wax. (No seriously...don't do that).

yeah, shrink wrap would work well. I used to mess with one at my old job, if you find a place that shrink wraps, they might even be nice and just do it for you, I imagine you can still use the touch screen without difficulty too. What on EARTH is intended to happen at this concert? I've been to a few with my vibrant and it was never at any risk of being submerged in water?? Ha

Well, sounds like all he wants to do is avoid it getting wet from rain. And it would do the trick. But, these would do it even better. I know for a fact that these work, as I have used them before when kayaking.

I think my trackpad is bad

Is it bad that I can FEEL the screen around the trackpad thingy when I use it? I feel like I'm gonna cut my thumb on the screen glass. :/

Mine is extreme opposite. I'm gonna try to get it fixed. NOT playing the refurb game. :/

My button has been recessed since I got it, no problems. It might Depend on which version you have, and what screen you actually have.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Ya know, never noticed that it is recessed... but it sure is. Could probably cut myself if I pressed hard enough but have no need to do so.
It shouldn't be pushed in on either screen. Looking at my DINC (only a week old) its perfectly flush with the screen.

Yep I'm in the same boat. Very nice though and no complaints about mine. Only slightly recessed on the inner circle, otherwise just about flush around the edges.
My trackpad is flush with the screen but I did have a refurb that the trackpad stuck out a little bit. For some reason I kind of liked it out a little more.

anyone else think these nubs on android phones are pointless?

I can see where it would be aimed to fit in your hand..but its such a pointless little nub.
On Android phones they tend to have these odd nubs I.e. Droid x, vibrant, Droid incredible.
Three seperate manufactures with three odd nubs.
Any thoughts?

Maybe they contain things that make your phone work.
Presumably, OP is talking about the 'chin' of the G1, and the humps on the back of the DroidX & GalaxyS line....
-bZj
G1 had it first. It was just going for a unique design. The Hero kicked it up a notch and a lot of manufacturers have produced their own take on the "chin".
Just gives the phones a unique shape and personality, instead of just a flat black slab.
i think he's talking about the bumps on the back of the phone.
the only purpose they seem to serve is to show the orientation of the phone, if it's upside down or upright. i find this useful when i'm taking the phone out of my pocket.
i think it helps with gripping the phone so it doesn't slide off your hands like a slab would.
The only thing I do not understand is they do not make the phone have a "feel for right-side-up", making them so symmetrical causes that. The Nub or hump does not really provide the right tactile signal it is upside-down..........
When I first read the title I thought he was saying noobs on android community.

Atleast we don't have the antennagate like iPhone..
Well we do but its not THAT bad.
Cover the nub for a bit and signal goes down lol
I just tore down my Vibrant to do the gps fix. The antenna wire starts at the top and runs down the side and into the area underneath hump or nub you guys are talking about but the biggest thing down on that end of the phone is the vibration motor. You can see all this without taking your phone apart by watching this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOvt6atrin8
Good find.

I can agree with that. I'm always rotating the phone in my pocket to make sure the "nub" is on top so when I pull it out it's right side up. I'm OCD like that.
Another feature is that it keeps the back from wearing out too much. Phones with flat backs tend to wear a lot. Logos and designs wear to crap.

so no one noticed that the Gorilla Glass has come away from the chassis? don't believe me? look at the top right hand edge of the device, the glass has gone translucent, and if you quickly pause, you'll notice a line running down both left, and right edges of the glass, at first i thought it was the chrome bezel... it's not... explains speeding the video up, hides these mistakes. TBH still a good case, but throwing it off the roof of a building is a tad extreme.

That is a bubble in the screen protector and the edges of the screen protector, not damage to the glass.

[Q] LG G2 back cover creak

Hi all,
I just bought this phone and although I am really satisfied with it, I can't stand the creaking sounds the back cover makes. Anyone else experiencing the same issue? Perhaps any tips on how to solve this?

I have to bend my phone to make the cover creek. If it's the same for you the sollution would be not to bend it. If it makes sounds without bending i think i personally would consider exchanging it for a new one.

It makes sounds by just applying a small amount of pressure on the back, especially on the left side of the back (ie not on the SIM card side). Occasionally it also creeks by just picking the phone up from the table.
i can confirm your experience. same with my d802. doesn't bother me at all.
It sounds like a bad phone you got there.
The G2 is extremly solid compared to other plastic phones. I can't even make it creak if I press hard, or bend (not gonna bend it extremly much, no phone is built for that )
I would recommend exchanging it.

I am not sure which model I have, but the back is not removable (not without special tooling that is).
Anyway, I just had a look at some display models in my store and they were all (3) having this issue. Guess I will just wait for my case to arrive and hopefully that will "solve" the creaking.
I have had a Rogers unit and now have a bell unit and they both creak below the volume down button

Samed thing here ... mainly around the buttons.
I was going to send it back to the store but I guess it's a general issue for which people are more or less sensitive.
Mine doesn't creak (VZW) and I've taken the back off several times.
When I went to Verizon to look at the phone or creaked horribly.
I walked out the store. Bought two and there's no creak at all.
What you guys expect from a plastic phone? I think eventually they all going to creak at one point or another.
