I speak portuguese, but you dont need to understand everything.... the only thig that i says that is important is that the side with the triggers was just done and that after a day it would loses its white marks and became like the other
I have my play for a year now and it is in pretty bad state.... the construction quality is not the best...
and what more I care about is the power button because it is pretty much gone, I'm using apps to lock the screen and the home button to unlock...
found out that some one used a nail file to fix it, so I tried and it was better for the first 3 presses.... I noticed that the light was passing though the part I sanded down, so I did the same on the whole button.
I think It looks pretty cool and all the button lights up and catches more attention..
when its off, it is ice/transparent with the power icon in the middle...
########Update########
I'm the kind of guy that has no limits, if I something cool, I keep doing it till it finishes bad... but not this time!! I sanded down the side that has no triggers and it looks like a very dark wood with a lovely texture on it... have to fell it...
Tip. Try to do it all ways in the same direction, along the side so that you have these tiny lines right. Or use a very smooth(?) /for more delicate things sand paper and don't put any pressure on it...

That's so badass, I'm filing mine down right now even though my button works fine. It's looking awesome
I can't imagine why they covered up most of the LED to begin with...
I'm going to do that. I sanded down my other buttons so they're now black. Never thought to do the power button.

How can filing down the surface of a button make any difference to its responsiveness? surely the problem lies beneath the button with the connector?
I agree with you on the build quality. My power button hasn't gone yet but its probably on its way out. It didn't work at all a couple of days ago until I kept pressing it and luckily went back to normal normal responsiveness after that, can't be a good sign though. That and the R trigger on my device has lost its springiness, it goes down with little to no effort now. Still raises back to the surface so I suppose I should count myself lucky.
Looks cool anyway and might make it so the LED light can actually be seen in normal circumstances.
So if I sand down my power button it will make it do that? GENIUS. I never thought of that. Time to go find a nail filer.
Sweet. Going to try this in a few
I just tried it out, and the power button felt a bit weird so I licked my finger and got it a little wet, but with the case on you don't even feel it. But my god, it looks 100x better. Thank you dude.
Totally awesome. Made my other buttons black b4. Didn't think about power either. Awesome now I can actually see my notification light

I think the R button loses its springiness because of the way the phone is held. At least when I hold it its usually being pressed.
To get back on topic, how is the surface of the power button when sanded?

Not to go off topic again but I had to replace the back cover underneath the battery. As the triggers started to get sticky and not move as they looked liked they were pressed all the way down. So bought a new backing and bang... works like like new. Now.... back to our regular scheduled topic on hand.
I did this last night... so much nicer to finally see the danger led as the whole button rather then what looks like a pin needle

Use something like this
You can find this on nail cutter or swiss army multipurpose knife. Gently scrub it on your power button. You can use sand paper also which you can find it on any hardware store, but I don't prefer sand paper because the sand will come off and run into your device

So the paint problem on my power button got worse after i picked at with my finger nail ONCE just curious on the construction like a RETARD.
what followed was a week of pain and humiliation. The paint started coming off slowly leaving my hand looking like i was touching glitter, It was like a flesh eating virus, the glitter continued and button started looking worse and worse so i decided Saturday that i would end this once and for all, i got out nail polish remover, a magic eraser, and a microfiber cloth and the result is a BARE bright RED power button that is visible from 20 feet away and looks absolutely horrible. What i also didn't expect that the nail polish remover also took some of the paint off the area around the button and off the side of the phone.
The end result is that my phone is now an embarrassment, fully functional, the rest of the phone is in perfect shape but no matter how well i keep care of it now it will still have a huge red button visible from 20 feet away.
*sigh*
looks pretty cool
Bust out a silver sharpie and give it a quick paint job.
Note to self: "Keep phone away from nail polish remover." I have a slight bubble developing on my End button. I'm hoping I don't have to scrape everything off. On the other hand you could go ahead and scrape off the paint on the Call button and have a nice Christmasy-looking phone. LOL

Duck tape fixes everything!!
Get small piece and stick it over the button.. Or take phone apart, rap duck tape around it.. In the process, dont break phone so you wont have to duck tape the entire thing together.
mine looks exactly the same dude.. :/
my back button even is starting to peel
I am afraid that if i start experimenting with paint and glue that my hero will end up out my apartment window.
no matter what i do it is always going to look bad, but seriously i need to make this less obvious.
did i mention that when the back light is lit on it, it is bright as hell too.

Take it to sprint and say the paint just wore away. You are a heavy phone user and you dont like how this happened. Ask what you options are and say you would like to get the buttons replaced. They do the work for free if you are insured.
It's a nice pic nonetheless.

Mine just started peeling off last week. Not a heavy phone user, but regardless, the End Key is now peeling . I have insurance, so I'm debating on whether to take it in or not. If they can just fix the button, great. If not, well, we'll see. That and I'd likely have to RUU before taking it in (unless I just leave it powered off .)
Get some silver nail vanish and reverse the issue
Scratch everything off both the call and end buttons and just pretend it's supposed to be that way. That works for me, but I know it would bug some people.

That's what I did. It really does not bother me. At least I don't have the dust issue. I don't trust a sprint tech taking my phone apart for those two buttons. It really looks alright when both buttons are missing the paint.
my phone end button is peel off too. I guess phone was never meant for moderate to heavey usage for end button imho.

At 1st I was horribly upset that I had to carefully scrape the paint off of the button. But it grew on me over time & I can use the phone without graying hairs over paint peel.

Same thing here mine looks exactly like urs :/ Anthink i,m goign tto try and mask it off and get some hobby paint..idk what color thou
I completely peeled my power button months ago. It's red, I'm over it.
The "back" button has been doing the same thing. The little back arrow is a blob of naked plastic now. I don't care since I'm getting an EVO.
There are threads at Sprint and other Hero forums where people have been trying to get Sprint or HTC to replace the phone because of this. I think only one person got lucky and was given a new phone.
Im a bit disappointed by the condition of my home button on my i9000, i barely touch/use/wipe the home button and now is full of scratches.... Samsung should have gone with all capacitive touch buttons or at least made it several times more durable..
How about you folk how is your home button doing so far?
i've had my phone for a month now and can't really see any scratches on the home button as of yet but ive got a feeling that if anything is to go wrong with the phone first it will either be the home button or the power button.
It just doesn't feel as durable as other phones.
Paul from Modaco had this issue too..
Mine still seems fine, however, I wouldn't be too fussed about how scratched it is anyway personally.
My home button is pretty scratched as well. Doesn't bother me much though.

mine has some serious scratches as well while the rest of the phone looks like new. I'd prefer one of the US models with capacity buttons over my international
I wouldnt be bothered of the entire plastic is black but as the pictures with modaco his scratches are quite deep and its showing white scratches into the plastic
I've had mine for a couple of months now; home button is perfectly scratchless, only 2 marks on the back cover.. Then again I don't put it in my pocket with anything else so I don't expect there to be much of a chance in getting scratched.
Mine is also fully used from 4 months and scratchless.

lol! yeah thats my favorite. "how the hell do you turn it on?!! oh" "how the hell do you unlock it??!!! oh" --- MY phone *****!
But to the OP, yeah I notice my top left corner has a slight gap but isn't pealing.
To the above two posts, yes, the button on my atrix and my room mates have broken in since we got them a week ago. At first we were both pissed off because we couldn't turn the **** on. Now its almost tolerable although I would still appreciate an extra 1/2mm of button.
Also, my finger print reader area already looks 'worn.' We'll see how well it holds up. Always have that 1 year warranty and if it does break from normal use, you can always talk to ATT and have them give you a different phone...
Does anyone else have this issue? Primarily my umm.. My Home and Back button are really worn, like they're losing their gloss/silver finish and are now turning black, I am not sure if this has ever been addressed, but is there a way to buy replacement buttons or re-apply some silver marker ink on this to fix this? I know it's fairly trivial but still. It bothers me, like.. when a sticker starts to peel in just it's corner and kinda curl, it makes me want to rip the whole thing off, OCD maybe!? :silly:
You are not alone
I will be having my Xperia PLAY for a one year at the end of August, during this time I was always caring about it, placing it only on its back, never on its front/touchscreen. But about 3 months ago I noticed that the bottom of back key (about 1 milimeter wide, 2mm long) started to wear out. Also the bottom left corner of search key is worn out, the same thing with bottom left corner of the menu button. But these spots are only mili/micro ones. I don't really care about it.
I think its somehow "normal" if I can name it in that way.
Also I think it's possible to buy new keys but IMHO it's waste of money. I suggest you to deal with it as I did

Little black specs appearing on 4 hardware buttons on the front panel ... slightly annoying but no big deal as long as the buttons themselves don't wear out and stop working.

Is that case sturdy enough? I've owned some really horrible phone covers so far, one of which being Otterbox. They're not entirely bad, but the Xperia Play's versions are absolutely horrible, if you press the R or L button, it would slide off entirely. Trident cases are nice though, but they don't cover as much.

i am starting to think that maybe some sort of resilient silver paint would be better, but here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3n5ZfkqhzE

Not only the power btn is placed on top thus less easy to get to while using one hand, but is simply too recessed on my device. I got it 3 days ago, it is almost perfect quality build wise, but it'll take me much more to get used to this feature.
I have to press really hard, and even then has to be perfectly centered, I find it easier keeping the phone in my right hand or else have to use both hands for this.
Trust me really bad choice having placed this button this way. Hope they will change it next iteration.

I was trying to get a pic of this but giving up.. Really tricky.
I will go to some stores holding the demo, see how it compares. Until then, I got a better idea how to explain this: holding my phone while typing this, I swipe my fingernail fro right to left over the power btn, no resistance, flush with body. Doing the same thing, the other way round, I meet a very slight resistance, ie the left corner is slightly raised, maybe 1mm. Is this normal?

Another reason to root. You can install a number of different kernels that allow you the ability to wake and put the device to sleep without using the power button.
Reviews have complained about the button being recessed its downright horrible thing from HTC to not think through such an important thing even when they seem to care so much about the little details of the phone. And no using some custom ROM/kernel is not the right solution at all.

I bought a case it its near impossible to power on the device without really digging in. I went in store for them to have a look at it but they practically laughed and smirked at one another and said they aren't going to fix it as the button still works. They wouldn't even get another handset out to compare the two buttons. Looks like i'll have to put up with it. Either that or go out my way to visit another store.
Is there anybodyr report better buttton after replacement?

Seen 3 demo models in as many stores today. Two of them were unfortunately showing similar recessed buttons. Only one had a slightly, maybe 1mm, raised button, however it felt much better, much easier to press.
For this reason only I guess I am going to ask for a replacement next week.

As an aside, all the dummies on display had 'normal' raised power buttons, maybe even 3 mm or more.

Mine is perfect after my first replacement. I'm on Sprint btw and complained specifically about the button. The overhang was gone as well but the second device still has a bit of a gap. Nothing major.
