Do you have a "legal liability insurance"?
This insurance pays (for example), if you causes an accident, when you cross the street. I don't know if you have that in your country, but in Germany, everyone gotta have this insurance.
If a friend of you has this insurance, you can simply say, that he "threw" the dumb bell on your "bag" and the phone was inside of it.
Normally, they can't proof that you did it yourself.
BUT, you need someone, who has this insurance!

That's not standard to have in the uk, and insurance fraud isn't to be recommended.
Having contacts in insurance, this isn't the time to make false claims, as they are being ultra vigilant, especially on high value electronics, particularly expensive smartphones...
They became aware too many people were having unfortunate accidents with them, and often investigate those claims.
depends on the company obviously, but beware they can take legal action if you lie in a claim declaration.

Yes of course, that's true. Probably you shouldn't say that, when i advised you here @xda to do that. But, if you don't behave stupidly it would work though.
But pulser_g2 is right, when he says, that it's an insurance fraud. Probably they will do legal actions.
Send it to Samsung or so and ask, what it costs to repair it... might be the cheapest way.
//After watching the picture:
Doesn't look as bad as I thought, how many kg did you throw on the phone? Is your phone still running? If yes, a replacement of the glas would fix your problem... saving $$$
But now we know, that gorilla glas ain't resistant against bumb bells :-S
awww sucks man... but seriously it doesnt look too bad, if the touchscreen is still working and its turning on n all that, just replace the glass which will be cheaper for you!
Other then that, try sell it on as a spare and count your losses...
30kg dumbells i dropped onto it. screen not working at all but fone still switches on sounds works n keys at the bottom do light up when home button is pushed

Sounds then like the LCD and digitizer were both damaged. However it seems to be so new that I couldn't find any replacement parts via eBay or google
funnily enough tht was the first time i put my fone on the ground whilst at gym at thats the last time as well lol
anybody know if its easy to change the screen myself found the digitizer touch screen and amoled pack on ebay for £92 shipped from honk kong
heres the link item number:390312055788
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390312055788
and if all else fails, call samsung and see if they'll repair it for you. might cost you a bit but it'll be cheaper than a new phone.
I've broke mine to. I was just walking along the street and it slipped out of my hand when I got it out of my pocket and fell to the floor.
It fell flat and the samsung case popped off. When I picked it up there are two cracks on the screen and no response. It turns on etc, just blank screen though.
I've got gadget cover on my house insurance so will be claiming through that

You can replace it yourself but you will need the correct tools. And iPhone4 repair tool kit will work. I have replaced the digitiser and LCD on a Samsung android phone before and it is not for the faint hearted. Once you get through all the clips and delicate flexible data cables, you will then have to go up against the dreaded double sided tape which holds the glass to the phone. Do it wrong and you snap the plastic frame!

Do your folks have home insurance with cover away from the home?
If that is still listed as your main abode, then it wouldn't be a fraudulent claim.
Oh sorry about that, I would definitely cry if something like that happened to me.
Please let us know if it was possible to fix it.

Yep. Set it on my car (stupid, especially since I didn't have a case) and looked away. I heard it slowly creep to the edge and BAM. So now the shell is messed up. (Pictures below) I called Acer and the dude couldn't understand English. He insisted that they would fix it for $200. But the damage is purely cosmetic! I would really like to fix it though as the case can't snap completely back on. Does anyone know where I could find just the funked up metal piece? Thanks for the help guys.

Sorry I have no idea where you can source the parts..
I dropped mine off my lounge arm rest onto thick carpet. The back plate flew off ripping what I assume is a warranty sticker... Which was half on the inside of the back plate and half on the motherboard.
On the corner of the front plate of the tablet that hit the ground, it is now slightly distorted so that there is a big seam between the front and back plates and the corner feels rough because the edge of the front plate sticks out more than the back.
Hope I made sense? Couldnt be bothered posting photos...
Couldn't be more annoyed about the shoddy build quality because I feel like I can't sell the tablet in the future due to the slight damage. I ordered a case to make holding the tablet more comfortable due to the now sharp edge and to protect from future falls.

I feel the same way. And I am infuriated that Acer expects me to pay $200 to fix cosmetic damage. For a mere $100 more I could simply buy a new one at Staples!
How long ago did you buy it? Maybe try to get some warranty on it and pretend it happened after you got the warranty.
Thats uncanny! I dropped mine also and it just so happened to be in the same corner! Lol
I did manage to stick my foot out though just before it hit the ground and the damage is a little less than yours however I did have to strip mine down and bend the case back into its normal position, or as much as I could!
It makes a creaking noise now because the chassis is not 100% straight and my camera is done for, just as well I didn't buy it for the camera ;-)
Took about an hour to get the case as straight as I could but you might be OK if you take some time and apply pressure in the right areas...
Best of luck!
The metal looks good and feels stronger but does not bounce back when dropped.I to drooped mine from 2 feet. No damage other trunk one of the snaps broke.
You could get a vinyl skin to cover it once you get it bent back in shape. Watch eBay eventually some people will be selling dead units. I have got notebook main boards this way.
Good luck metal is not always better bohooooooo

I did manage to manipulate the back cover mostly into it's proper shape to reduce the gap in the seam but problem is that the corner of the front frame is also bent which is thicker metal and has all the components attached so i fix that side...

If it still works, he should consider himself lucky. Things like is always makes me glad, I'm safe than sorry. I'm going to have to consider SquareTrade after I get my screen protector & case.
So we can assume now that the material used by Samsung is not the same in terms of strength and durability as Gorilla Glass.

My recommendation get a semi hard rubber case takes a beating. I have never broke a screen in 25 years of having a phone. I did Have a Blackberry old Brick (big square ugly phone) I dropped it off a 40 ft roof and it bounced and the screen never broke......... Luck of the Irish I guess
Either way I have dropped alot of phones and the semi hard case seems to take the shock
Bummer man, probably 145usd for a screen assembly.........
Note hasn't even been out for that long so even if you don't have insure to cover it I'm pretty sure your still applicable to apply.
A device that big and heavy would really break easier than the smaller ones I guess.

It works perfect no body damage just the screen
Its not gorilla glass its just a thin piece of common glass. I am pretty sure it broke because it landed flat on the screen.
The problem with any glass screen isn't that they are "shatter" proof, but they are scratch resistant. Just about any piece of glass tinsel strength will resist a scratch (except for a diamond), but a sudden impact, especially on an edge will pretty much shatter it. The gorilla glass can flex, if you've seen the video, but I bet they never show anyone striking it on the edge. Even though in your event, it fell on the face, from the look of the photo, it landed on the edge first, even if just by a small amount.
I have a Dell Streak and the first thing I do before exiting my vehicle, is to make sure it is in the pouch before I get out of the car. My previous phones (HTC's) got dropped several times getting into/out of my car. I use to keep an otter box case on it, but they are so bulky, not many cases around for belt use.
I feel for you, but, I bet just about any large surface area piece of glass would do the same thing. Head over to the Dell Streak forum and you'll see a few broken glass streaks.
Some how my screen cracked even though I have dropped it. Am I able to claim warranty?

Well if it cracked when you dropped it, it`s your fault, did you have a case on it or a screen protector.
Also where did it break, do you have a pic.

It is pretty much impossible to claim "normal use" for a screen cracking.. and as the case of the Note is not structurally strong enough for it to be the cause, you are most likely out of luck
How can a screen crack under "normal" usage conditions? I put my note through abnormal conditions and it doesn't crack. Glass doesn't just spontaneously break. Are you sure you didn't warp/flex the phone with a case/your hands/pocket?
EDIT: To clarify, normal usage conditions IMHO is classified as:
- Touching/swiping the screen with your finger within reasonable pressure limits
- Touching/swiping the screen with the stylus within reasonable pressure limits
- Depressing the side mounted click buttons and home button with your finger within reasonable pressure limits
Unless OP has a service plan or extended warranty that covers accidental damage, he is SOL.
How exactly does a screen crack under "normal use"? Fingernails honed to an icepick edge?

Yeah, I have had a similar problem with my laptop where the screen broke even without dropping it. Sometimes these things happen, even with the best of hardware. I haven´t heard many people complaining about inexplicably broken screens, so I don´t think there is anything fundamentally wrong with the note. You can´t rule out that your screen had some defect that caused this, but you equally can´t prove it, and without proof of a fault you are on your own, since warranty is not there to replace your phone when you break it. Your best bet is to claim it on your household insurance, unless you have extended cover, since Samsung will almost certainly not fix it for free.
suppose it would be possible for the screen to go from very hot to very cold extremely fast may cause it to crack, but I'm not sure how that would happen. Playing a game on full brightness then running into a freezer? hahahah
Normal usage does not involve something that cracks the screen.

There must be a typo in there somewhere as "even though I have dropped it" would not be considered normal use which is the threads title
Its a rare thing but it does happen, Screens can just break on their own.
There was a guy over on the SGS1 forums a long time ago who was adamant his screen broke by itself, I argues with him for ages saying its impossible, But turns out it isnt
Just google it, you will see lots of results.
A mixture of certain conditions can cause a screen to break so i believe the OP, However, trying to explain this to your provider / samsung is not going to be easy.
I think your best bet would be to claim on some sort of insurance, if you have it.
Otherwise, attempt to replace it yourself, there are a lot of how-to videos online.
My advice to op is: buy a replacement display and replece it yourself.. and remember to buy sealings to for warranty void
I've just had my note back from the official UK service centre after breaking my screen.
Sent it away last Monday, came back today.
Screen replacement cost £73.94 including delivery and is still in full manufacturers warranty.
Why mess around trying to fix it yourself?

Many things can happen in your pocket, such as bumping into things. Do you expect that little bit of fabric of your pants to be destruction proof or something lol. I always put my phone with the screen towards me incase I do bump something this will hit the back cover and screen will be better protected.
Obviously dont put it in your back pocket and sit on it, i would think most people would realise thats a bad thing but as some think pockets are indestructable safe zones, thanks to a bit of fabric some may not realize sitting on your phone inside a pocket your still sitting on a phone lol.
As amazing as it may seem I have even heard of people breaking legs while wearing pants, shocking I know but in pants you would think this stuff just cant happen.

So I got the xperia z (C6602) as a gift a month ago. I was happy with the device, till a few days ago I took the phone out of my pocket to find the screen (the inner one) cracked in the middle!! The upper portion of the screen doesn't respond to touch, while the lower portion works fine. I took the phone to SONY repair center over here in Saudi Arabia, and they denied fixing it under warranty. I was told they can't fix the screen, and my only option is to swap it for a new one and the price is 450 US dollars.
I was wearing a pair of Caterpillar Workwear Essentials Trademark Trousers and the phone was inside of right front pocket, didn't drop the phone or anything! I'll upload some pictures.
I had an xtremeguard screen protector on the screen; no cover. I was looking online for a cover a few days ago though

I spoke to their manager, and he said that it's possible to break the internal screen without breaking the outer one if you press on it with your finger!!!!!
I'm not accepting NO for this BS! I'll take it up with whoever till I get this resolved. I have a family member who's traveling to the US next month; I think I'll have him take it with him to a US based repair service and have them look at it. If it's anything like APPLE, they'll fix this, right?
Such bad luck :/ BTW have seen many cases now... internal screen breaks but outer glass is not even cracked... maybe internals are more brittle
EDIT : Saw ur pics... well looks like sony should replace your phone.... just say u dont know anything about this ... just touchscreen stopped responding while u were using it... threaten them that u will sue them if they dont replace....

Well that seems to be a Big bad luck for you.. Internal crack cannot be coz of any fall.. Doesn't seem to me of how the external remains intact on falling n just damaging the internal...
Check with any other service center of sony.. just in case..
Sorry to hear That makes me really worry about mine! Do you have a case or anything?
Not sure if this is worth checking to see if there are any spare parts available too? http://rounded.com/xperia-z-l36h/#ty;pagination_contents;/xperia-z-l36h/
You know what you should do right? Take this up their ass. Take it up to court. If there's no problems on the outer screen. You actually have a case.
Tell them you got it like that straight of the box
The glass is flexible. But don't think the innards are as forgiven. Sounds like it has bent ever so slightly stressing the insides. Bad luck either way.

Most of the time a screen is broken (either with or without breaking the glass) it's the user's fault. I've had it only once with my Dell Streak and it was probably my fault considering the enviroment I was in (indoor swimming pool with very high humidity and temperature).
So, just bad luck.
on the left side of the phone, just below the charge pin connectors, almost exactly where your screen is cracked, it appears as if though there is something behind the screen, maybe a mount or something sticking upwards and putting pressure on the panel from behind.
If I apply pressure on the left side of my screen where your phone is cracked, the screen gets those funny colors which lcds get when you apply pressure on them. Not much pressure at all is needed either.
I'm going to assume your crack is due to a design flaw with how they mounted the LCD panel.

Just to be sure... there is no "inner screen", its only touch screen and LCD but you need to replace both of them, cant be replaced separately.

And why not separately? Sony Design? Cause I have had my digitizer replaced on another phone without changing the LCD panel.

He doesn't know what he's talking about.
Exactly on the edge below the charge connectors I have a small crack as well! It's really tiny but exactly on the same spot at the edge! Didn't drop the phone as far as I know.. I hope it doesn't develop the same way...
EDIT: FALSE ALARM! It's just a deep scratch, I'm sorry for the panic. It's a perfect straight tiny scratch in the screenprotector...

Please... i have replaced so many touches and LCDs, you cant even imagine the number! And its not about Sony design, its just beacuse the phone is build like that and its not the only one(T, P, S, J, Arc, Active and more) ... In some cases its possible to buy them separatley but still original part is made from one piece...

T,P,S,J, Arc, Active....so basically...Sony design then?
Put the handbags away. It's 1 part end of story.

The glass under the shatter proof sheet is broken and it contains the touch digitizer on it, that's why you can't use the upper part, the LCD panel cannot break like this, if the LCD panel was broken the upper part would be a single colour or a distorted image, the bad thing is that you have to replace the whole screen....
Please don't take the mick I'm absolutely fuming, dropped my phone this morning and part of the screen has shattered. Now it's completely black and nothing I can do to make it work, the phone is on because it's still receiving messages. How screwed am I? I'm going abroad tonight and I desperately need some sort of phone I don't even care about the screen being cracked. I don't have Nexus Protect either. Thanks in advance
damn, where'd it hit?
aside from getting the screen repaired, no clue what to suggest. mustve dislodged something causing the entire screen to go black
Just over the bottom speaker. This is awful the crack isn't even that big, less than a quarter of the screen! I'm close to the edge right now I can't believe a phone I've had for just over a month does this the first time I drop it. WHY TODAY FFS
At this point you probably have to send it in for repairs. You want someone here to tell you something that doesn't exist.

I can't post links yet so I can't post a photo, but for a phone to be a paperweight after a fall and crack this small is frankly ridiculous, an iPhone will still work flawlessly even if the screen is utterly destroyed. And without Nexus Protect I'm now placed in a position where I can't even get it fixed, even for money? You can't even get Nexus Protect in the UK, does this mean that any UK Nexus user should just throw away their phone when it breaks?
I love this phone to bits but build quality like this is appalling
Sorry to hear of your misfortune, but you are looking to blame everything except the one place it lives, yourself, you dropped it (not deliberately), you have no insurance etc.
There is as much chance of an iPhone having an inoperable screen after being dropped as any other. Seen plenty of iPhones that work but nothing on the screen over the years, same as with other phones, so this is not unique to the 6P at all. As for Nexus protect, no it isn't available in the UK, but there are lots of alternatives, Bank's often provide cover for a fee, you can extend your house insurance to cover it, there are also 3rd party polices specifically for phones like Protect your Bubble.
I know you are emotional at the moment, but the phone isn't to blame for you not being properly covered if you should have been. Some consciously decide to take the risk, others get themselves covered. Some unfortunately choose to not make a decision, they can't blame others for that. Even having cover would not solve the problem of having it repaired in no time before you go away. If you need data off of it, have you rooted and installed TWRP?
Do you not have the old phone the Nexus replaced?
I know two people whose iPhone 5s and 6 suffered a 4 and 6(maybe) foot fall and it's display behaved the same way as it's doing on your 6P.
Yes it's my fault and yes I'm an idiot. This is my 10th post so I can actually show you the extent of the damage. I've never seen any other phone rendered useless from something as small as this

In all fairness I would expect any phone to crack the way I dropped it. It was only from around 2.5 feet and bounced off the carpet but hit the edge of a tile face-first. However I would also expect the phone to still work as it wasn't a huge impact. If every phone ceased to work entirely after the first drop people wouldn't pay £500 for it

Yeah, I have backups on the phone but I can't get my laptop to connect to the Nexus as I can't put my passcode in. And I sold my OPO as soon as the 6P arrived. Sod's law

Instead of trying to disparage the phone, deal with your problem at hand. Send it in for repair. That's your solution.
Furthering the point. Does anybody know of any decent UK-based repair centres that deal with the 6P?

Doesn't help you now bit once you have it repaired you could insure it for £7 pm, well worth it in my opinion.
Not aware of any repair stores that deal with the Nexus, apparently it's a hard phone to repair also so don't think it will be cheap [emoji19] [emoji19]

It is what it is. Your statements lead me to believe that you are very immature and demanding. You dropped your phone, you chose not to insure it and now you are upset about it when in fact you botched by breaking it and not having insurance. Hopefully it's a lesson learned but after reading your posts I doubt it.

Also depends what damage has been done in the inside too pal, I'll be honest I've dropped mine a couple of times and taken chunks out of the bezel I was really lucky not too smash the screen... Just luck of the draw I suppose

You made your decision already. Get an iphone next time since it is impervious to destruction.
I may be wrong, but that photo you posted looks like the screen got smashed by something blunt dead center with quite a bit of force. not the froce of a 2.5ft fall on carpet, then to a hard object.
You have no reason to lie, it's an anonymous forum, but the photo doesnt look to me to match the story. Ive seen multiple drop tests from 6+ feet and not much more than some cracking. That looks like a thin hammer was taken to it.
Really sucks, and repairs don't look as easy as other devices... Good luck, and whatever you end up doing, report back so others know where to go if in the same boat
That was my thought. That is quite a forceful blow shatter pattern. Not hugely surprising it has affected some of the electronics like the digitiser.
Hopefully the damage is limited to the replacement screen part.
I just saw the photo also. you can see the center of the blunt force that hit the screen and it circles outward. That wasn't a fall to the ground and a spiderwebbed screen.
