Pretty sure that you won't be able to get windows 7 running on this. In the event that you do it will be horrible as windows 7 isn't designed to run on this type of processor. Maybe NEXT Christmas when windows 8 is out we can get a dual boot honeycomb/windows tablet.

SHIFT + XP = Ghost/image request

It has been an amazing saga and hundreds of hours of work of extremelly talented people in the blogs to being really close to having a fully working version of XP on the Shift. I read in multiple threads all sorts of bits and pieces regarding drivers and config to make XP work.
I would like to make a request and see how we could all possibly get organized in having a single partition, fully working, clean install of XP on the Shift that can be cloned via Ghost or another imaging app for us to have a master downloadable ISO of XP for the Shift.
I know not everything is working 100% yet but we are getting closer. It would be great if we could somehow concentrate our efforts in making one fully out-of-the-box clonable XP build for download so we all can enjoy instead of each of us having to go thru the torture of individual OS + drivers installation + configuration.
I would like to offer if needed to host the cloned ISO once its ready for everyone to download and get it installed on their Shifts
good idea but illegal microsoft will not be 2 happy and nor xda if they were to have too many links to warez.

True... but then again we all already had to "pay" for Vista pre-installed forcefully on all our Shifts!...every single one has had one copy of Vista sold and paid for

Exactly. Microsoft would come down on us like a ton of bricks.
It is possible to get XP tablet 100% working on the shift, complete with touchscreen, fingerprint reader, everything working. Everything is available in the various threads here, but it is scattered around and it's hard to find all the answers - and there are more wrong answers in the threads than right ones.
It took a lot of trial and error to get everything sorted on my shift, so I can't write a tutorial, as I don't remember half the things I did, or even which threads I got the answers from.
But it was fun getting there, I now have an 80Gb dual boot XP/Vista Shift with working GPS.

Yes OK, I agree... Microsoft would come down on us like a ton of bricks.
Bad idea. And its true that all the info and drivers for XP tablet are available in the various threads here but scattered all over the place. Maybe one idea could be to at least organize one simple and final thread with all the info and drivers step-by-step so that everyone can do it if they want.

Best advice I can offer you is just to get used to your device. Get the feel of it and play with it. Once you have done this, then read the wiki so you understand more.
If after all of this you feel you want to change anything, do a search for it first, read up on it and then try it out.
There are plenty of apps/software/games/themes available for you to install on your HD. Apps/software & games which work on the HD can also be found in the wiki as well as in the software forum.
You can also change roms (operating system), but you will need to do some research on this first. Guide to flashing roms can be found here.
The most important thing of all is to research & read before trying anything. If your unsure of anything on any particular topic, ask your question within that relevant thread

ABC how to root,install rom.

I did my first post to day after many hours reading about how to root.
I made it with out help, but I was not confident.
I got a privat message Where someone aked how I did it. I have to say " Don't ask me".
The reason is that there seem to be a lot of traps along the way.
I read about one metod and started that, but then there was a warning and another suggestion. Then I went for the next one and again another suggestion.
I gave up and just picked the one with largest tread .
The things I'm wondering about are . Is there a sticky about how to step by step do it ,or do everybody need to read a lot and still be unsure about whitch way to go for?
Normally one way is better.
Is it not possible to concentrate it around one way?
There are lots of treads about how to do it but I'm confused about the warnings " if yod did it that way you can't use this file ,but need to look around for a file that you can use"
I did put in a new kernel and want to try a complete Rom,but I don't know if I can use a kk9 rom for my phone. There was a warning about use CF ready or made Rom ??
Is there,or if not, why is there not a sticky about how to tweak the easiest and most widely used way for beginners in this forum?
Then more people dear to start. More people is more money to those who make the files.
If there are many ways and conflicts, maybe a link to the compatible way can be posted together with the rom, kernel or what type of file that's posted.
Please correct me if I'm the only one that feels that there are to many choices for nearly the same thing.
Maybe I'm spoiled from the way the Norwegian apple forum was build for beginners to professionals.
Or maybe it's not a standard for whats the best way.
+1 on this!!
Yeah after paying what I paid and probably would have to deal with a nightmare of a return I'm not about to root or anything until its been run through it's paces a million times. Actually since there don't seem to be any solid ROMS yet I have not desire to anyway.
Also I rooted and unrooted my ATT Galaxy S2 a bunch of times and it ended up not able to connect voice calls for some reason. Had to return it. Not sure if it was related but I don't want to risk it with the Note.
I used to enjoy the video's explaining the Jailbreaking process from start to finish(iPhone). Has anyone seen a video guide for rooting/Roms? The only experience I have with Rom flashing is from the Windows mobile days, where as easy as jailbreaking(easier infact)

Hi there!
I found it here on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371070
Within it is a (Great) review of the Note. It is IMO worth to read it through, although it is very long.
Also, the same guys at AndroidNZ made a step by step Rooting guide, with a video (I did not watch it yet, because of corp. firewall ) You can find that here: http://www.androidnz.net/2011/11/at-your-own-risk-how-to-root-your.html
Happy rooting!

Yes it can. I haven't done it myself yet, but search through a couple of threads and around 293 posts, and you'll find it
Ok, just kidding. Here's the link (scroll down to the bottom of the first post) :

[Q] Noob need to update wm6.5 to Windows phone

Hi there! This is my first post and this question is the reason i joined here. So I'm a noob as title says.
I got a HTC HD2 (T-mobile) as a gift from my friend. Now i put my Dialog sim on it and it work beautifully. Dialog is a provider in my country which is Srilanka. This HTC HD2 came with the default os and it is WM6.5.
I heard that i can update to different operating system like android and all. I'm not interested in androids. But i do like windows 7 and mango by seeing the videos, never used though.
Can i update mine to windows phone while considering the Below Factors
1) The phone must work properly after the update as it is with out freezing and other troubles coz this is my only phone i have. If these update causes some sort of freezes or some thing i better be with wm 6.5 as right now
2) I need proper Video guide. Just one link not enough. Let assume if i have to install win 7 first and mango second. I need both link and you give me a step by step guide with video details links. Despite i'm being noob in mobiles i'm ok with computers. I use Win 7 x64 bit os.
Kind Regards
Nooby Mahi
I would suggest going here(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236027) then read it through thoroughly. Then read it again and then just for good measure read it again. It takes quite a bit of work but in the end it is a great rom and it turns your phone into an hd7. If you question how it works read through all of the responses. If you have questions read through the thread, it has probably been answered a million times. But if you can't find an answer don't be afraid to ask in the thread. You may get some d-bags replying read the thread but don't mind them someone will help you. We were all new here once.
Welcome to XDA. You are going to be really happy with your new phone, this thing is a beast!

make sure you understand all the steps . and do it in 1 row, not like me i did it in 4 days. And look if all the files are in the root-manual. do not download them from google etc. big chance for virus's
root-manual?
I would recommend KFU.... try to get a liliputing video guide... or rootzwiki. Hope this helps sorry I do not have any links.

Its really not to hard. Just go slow and follow each step as outlined in one of the many guides. Check the stickies and read them through to make sure you know what you are doing before hand. Also be sure to make a back up right away in case something happens. Finally dot freak out if something does go wrong because the kindle is pretty forgiving and able to be unbricked.

Yea, that's what it seems through reading

If you have any problems search the forums for your problem and spend a little time reading.
I will bet you any amount of money you problem has been discussed hundreds of times.
I have seen people post threads stating "OMG My Kindle Is Broken help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
And there will be 2-3 threads on the first page that had they spent 5 minutes looking could have solved their problem.
if you want to use a custom lock screen which is pretty cool, read my thread here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497383
