Hey guys I just flashed the clockwork recovery we have now and am about to flash some prime.
With the new clockworkrecovery do I just go about flashing roms like I do on my nexus just give it a wipe and flash away. no calling itsmagic before or after with this new recover?
If you´re using the latest CWM, wipe and flash, this version has itsmagic to run automatically. If you want to be sure, you can find itsmagic under advanced in the CWM menu.

Does ROM Manager work with AmonRa Recovery?
I'm asking this because I currently have Clockwork and when I try to flash an alternate recovery through ROM Manager, it says that features within ROM Manager will be unavailable until I flash Clockwork again.
So...hence my question. And if I wanted to switch to RA recovery, would I have to manually push it through adb or is using ROM Manager fine?

No, you can flash Amon through ROM manager, but if you want to manage the nandroid back-ups you've done through ROM manager, you need to flash back to clockwork recovery. I always keep Amon on since Clockwork may or may not wipe the dalvik cache properly, and only revert to clockwork recovery when I need to restore or create a back up of my ROM.
No need to use ADB unless you get some kind of an error flashing from ROM manager.

Thanks for the help. Really appreciate it.
I never knew how easy it is to flash the recoveries. I always thought I would have to push it through adb again like the time I rooted!
I'll def try what you are doing with keeping Amon and switching back to Clockwork when needed.
Thanks again for the help!
No worries; glad I could be of help.

don't flash from the clockworkmod app... reboot the phone and hold the down volume to get into the bootloader. Then choose the flash a zip from sdcard. then find the zip and pick it... it's much easier... also you can do a nandroid backup before flashing... and you should do a factory reset/wipe before flashing usually.
oh i understand that i mean do i have to do a clockworkmod recovery every time i flash a new rom?
i cant just boot into recovery do a backup, wipe data, wipe cache, and install?
i ask because clockwork doesnt seem to be working anymore...and i tried to flash evils rom coming from iced glacier 1.1.2 and it didnt work i had to flash 1.1.2 again and then re do it because i kept getting fc
I had an earlier version of cyanogenmod installed, I went into rom manager and pressed update (or something like that). It did the whole installation thing but now it's just hanging at the cyanogenmod splash screen.
What do?

Have you tried to boot into recovery ? (turning it on by pressing the power button and the - volume button)
Did you backup? Always, always backup.
If not try downloading the ROM and flashing that, don't wipe just yet, if that fails you will probably need to wipe and flash again.
ok so i did a recovery of the backup i did just before trying to install cyanogen 7
FFUUUUU.... now everything is pretty much lost! even the old cyanogen is gone. What can I do?!
Was your old backup from a pre 2.3 ROM?
^^ how can i tell?
sorry for being a noob
What was the ROM you backed up before flashing CM7?
the backup i did just before trying to install cyanogen 7

it was cyanogenmod 6.1.3
Ok, your problem now is that the file system changed from 2.2 (Froyo) to 2.3 (Gingerbread) and you will need to flash a new version of ClockworkMod Recovery to restore that backup.
Do you have ENG S-OFF? You will be able to flash it via fastboot, if not you will have to start again from CM7 and downgrade ClockworkMod Recovery from there, then restore your backup.
I flashed the latest ClockworkMod Recovery (3.0.0.6) - I think before I tried to install CM7.
Restoring the backup means almost everything is gone, apps, settings, etc (but not everything). Did I **** it up? Will I have to redo everything?
If I have to do that anyway I might as well use CM7, but installing that means the splash screen hangs (I had the same problem with CM6, I dont remember how I fixed it)
Your right, to flash CM7 you needed CWM 3.x.x.x
Restoring that backup 6.1.3 will take you back to pre-CM7 so yes everything will be gone.
Have you tried just flashing CM7 again?
ok, trying to install cm7 again...
Don't wipe just yet, if it still hangs after flashing again you will then have to wipe.
****, it's hanging at the CM7 splash screen again
Ok, you will need to perform a wipe.
In CWM you have "mounts & storage"
Format boot & system, then flash CM7 again, (btw which CM7 ROM are you flashing?)
I did that (through the recovery or w/e) and then it was hanging at the HTC logo....
I had to restore the backup once again and am back where I was before
What can I do?
btw it's CM 7.0.0-RC2
Ok sounds like a full wipe is needed.
Again in CWM "mounts and storage" format everything except scdard, then back out and go into "advanced" and wipe dalvik cache.
Flash CM7 again, it should work now.
can i flash CM7 through the recovery console? because if i wipe everything then obviously i cant boot back into it?
Don't worry you can't wipe recovery from within recovery, so after a full wipe it will still be available.
before I do that, how exactly do i install CM 7 from recovery console? I think it was downloaded to my SD card but I dont see a straight forward option in the recovery console
I'm currently running Acer_A500_0.022.00_WW_GEN1 with unlocked bootloader and tweaked kernel... have CWM as recovery...
If I want to flash another official leak (like theAcer_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1 that was just released) do I need to use stock recovery? If so, how do I get to stock recovery with CWM installed?
I'm not intending to flash it now... just curious about the proper process.
I appreciate the help!
look for touch recovery by thor2002ro on tegraowners. This is the best recovery for A500 for now

Hmmm.... isn't it the CWM users who have all the issues getting their CWM recovery images corrupted lately when running leaked ICS roms?
RA Recovery. Less things to do when you flash. More options.
Both have touch recovery.

I already have Thor's CWM installed with the ICS leak.. working great thanks to some very smart people! (You just have to delete a file before flashing to preserve CWM)
I've figured out that I need to switch to stock recovery... just was hoping for a key combo or something!

To install the stock recovery you can just dd if=recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 from a root shell where recovery.img is the recovery image extracted from the zip file of a stock leak. Then you can reboot into the stock recovery and flash the latest leak and flash a new bundle with CWM, BL & kernel for that version

Hi all, I met a problem after flashing cm-11-20141028-NIGHTLY-mb52x.zip.
I cannot enter Custom Recovery (TWRP) any more. Other functions are OK, but I cannot upgrade to new ROM now.
Is there a simple way to restore Custom recovery in CM11?
Otherwise, I will have to use the method: "flashing stcok ROM (Android 2.3) -> root -> 2nd Init -> flashing Custom recovery", to restore it.
Thanks in advance.
hi, don't know if you still need an answer but you can try this:

Hi jh20, thanks for the information.
I checked the post you provided. However, my problem is that I cannot enter the Custom Recovery anymore, let alone flashing another ROM.

perhaps i should explained a little more. these are based on memory as i haven't done these a while now.
cwm recovery had been permanently removed from cm11, and you can only flash cm10 and not anything earlier (cm7 or cm9) with cm11's twrp because of ext4 partition. so as long as you can still get into twrp, you can flash cm10 which still has both twrp "and" cwm recovery. cm10's cwm recovery allows you to repartition it back to ext3 and hence allows you to flash cm7.
i did a little google on how to revert from cm10, and here are the hits:

Thanks a lot, jh20.
I think I made a mistake in the post, that I was not use CWM recovery in CM11, it is TWRP recovery instead. I've update my post to reflect this.
So the problem is that I cannot enter TWRP recovery any more, and cannot flash another ROM or anything via TWRP recovery.
Is there a simple way to restore TWRP recovery, otherwise I have to start from scratch by flashing stock ROM, ...
I'm not trying to go back to CM7.2.

Sorry, not with my knowledge. So unless some experts/developers here have any ideas, you might have to start from scratch.
