I think something in my recovery is corrupted as I cant get back to ClockworkMod recovery after switching to RA in ROM Manager. I normally use Clockwork for my backup and restores. But before switching to the new rom, I flashed into RA to make sure I did a good wipe before installing the new rom (like I always do). However, it took unusually long to flash RA in ROM Manager but it successfully finished. I was able to reboot into recovery, do my wipes, and and flash the new rom. Now after getting the phone set up with the new rom, I cant get back to Clockwork in ROM Manager. Im getting an error after selecting HTC Evo CMDA phone, "an error occurred while flashing your recovery" and Im stuck with RA recovery. Im guessing I need to reinstall recovery? Whats the easiest way to do this?
ROM Manager 2.5.0.7
Warm RLS4
Clear download cache in rom manager and try again.

didnt work. it sat there for a minute and then gave the same error. any other ideas?
Fixed. After about an hour of seaching, I found a thread suggesting to try to connect to WIFI and flash Clockwork again. That worked. It granted SU permissions, and flashed Clockwork.
For the hell of it, I tried to break it again.
Turned off WIFI, tried to flash RA, and it was very slow again. Took about 2 minutes to flash RA but it completed. Tried to flash Clockwork, and it went through ok now without being on WIFI.
I did it a few more times and seem to get inconsistent results. When it doesnt work right, it seems to be taking very long to get SU permissions granted for both recoveries. What is causing that?
Ok so I originally rooted my phone and put Fresh ROM on it, there was a little hiccup in the install but I didnt really think much of it, recently when I tried to flash a new ROM (I tried multiple ones just to be sure it wasn't the rom) but whenever I try to flash the ROM (using clockworkmod from recovery mode) it will say the install was successful but when I reboot it will do one of two things: stay on the "HTC EVO 4G" startup screen or continue to turn off and on like its in a bootloop. Does anyone have any ideas whats happening and what I should do? I have tried clearing/wiping all of the options that are available in clockworkmod and even tried using a new SD Card but it still does the same thing

Hi there. First off, I need a little more info, like which rom you are trying to flash right now. Also, what radio's and pri do you currently have?(menu>settings>about phone>software info, radio is baseband) If you have the older radio and PRI, (same as the ones in my sig), and you are flashing to a 3.70 software ROM, which most likely you are, you will need to either flash a custom kernel, while in recovery, just after flashing the rom (before you boot). Or upgrade your radios. If you have already updated your radios, and you're still experiencing this, I would first and foremost, switch to Amon Ra recovery (which version of clockwork are you on, btw?). The easiest way to switch to Amon Ra, is to get Rom Manager from the market. Use rom manager to "flash clockworkmod reocovery" (even though you already have clockwork, do this) Then scroll down, and you'll see "flash alternate recovery". Select that, and let it flash Amon Ra for you. Shut the phone down, and manually boot into recovery (vol down+power). Use amon's recovery to do a full wipe, (data, cache, davlik cache x3) Then flash calkulin's format all.zip. That will ensure a good wipe. Then follow my above mentioned instructions, and try again. That should work. If it doesn't, report what the exact errors are here. Good luck
Maybe this is a stupid question, but are you able to nand restore to a rom where your phone will actually boot up?
Calkulin format all zip is your best bet. It will wipe your system data, data, cache and dalvik cache. A full purge.
Just have a good zip like chris sprint lovers rom. And better yet a PC36100.zip from chris all in one update thread.

Here's a few suggestion:
Change your radio version - Some kernels don't work right with the newest, and some don't work right with older ones.
Change your kernel - This is always the best suggestion IMO. For a sense based ROM run one of netarchy's latest kernels. Often a bootloop is because of a kernel/radio issue.
Plus with netarchy and setcpu you'll get some wicked battery life.
Try wiping everything, and then try again. Also try flashing a different rom
having issues flashing myn rom
have 3.7 evo rooted unrevoked3/kernel 15
when i try to flash from clockwork mod it just blinks right quick but doesn't do anything.. all the things are up to date .. can anyone help?
when i flashed amon ra and flashed rom.. it says E: can't find update script..
i dl rom manager and did the alt recovery to amon ra. it still won't flash the rom.. but now i have another problem.. my sd card clockwork back up is not there... and now i can't restore to previous state. i can't get to the regular phone interface. what can i do to restore?
So, I'm a bit new around here and to rooting and flashing roms. I recently have been flashing rooms directly from rom manager. Everything was fine for weeks until I recentely tried flashing a rom by RVU. Now I'm stuck in the stock evo 4 g load screen and it keeps loading over and over. Any suggestions ? Is there away back into the boot loader ?

To get back to the bootloader, you'd need to pull the battery (won't hurt anything) and put it back in. Then hold the power button and volume down. That will get you to the bootloader
What do you mean you tried flashing a rom by RVU? I'm confused. RUU is rom utility update, or rom update utility, or something ike that. But if you ran an RUU it would put you back to completely stock.
If I were you, and in your situation, I'd pull the battery, boot to bootloader, and see if you can still get to your recovery. If you can, I'd try wiping everything then either restoring a nandroid backup if you have one, or a fresh install of a ROM. If you don't have recovery, post back and we'll see what needs to happen to get you back up again.
Well, the rom I flashed was created by team RVU....at least that's what it said. So, I made it as far as recovery. But by wipe you mean a wipe back to stock? I'm in as far as my clockwork mod recovery screen. Kinda lost now !!

Okay I gotchya now, although I don't think I've been informed of RVU before, I'll have to check it out. Anyways, thats good that you can still get to recovery. So you have never used it before? Just did everything from ROM manager before huh? I'm not familiar with clockwork recovery, as I use Amon, I'm trying to remember the little differences. First, you don't have any nandroid backups do you? Prob not if you're not familiar with clockwork and had never created a nandroid backup before! I'm not sure if backups made with ROM manager can be restored using CWM, doubtful though. So by wipe, I mean wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe davlik cache. You will need to have a ROM on your sd card, so that you can install it from recovery. In order to wipe the dalvik cache using clockwork, i believe it is under the advanced section. Not sure though. Once you have everything wiped, and the ROM of your choice on the main directory of your sd card, choose 'flash zip from sd card' or 'install zip from sd card" or something to that nature, then find the ROM and flash it. If all goes well, you should be able to boot up after that. If you do indeed happen to have a nandroid backup, choose to restore that.
Yup, everything I've done has been through rom manager. Anywho, I peeked around inside some files. Inside my install zip from sd. I found a file labeled nandroid. Could that be the backup that your referring too ? If so, would i still have to wipe my phone ?

Nandroid folder is for amon RA backups. Clockwork backups are in the clockwork/backup folder.
Have you backed up your previous install? If so wipe all factory reset then restore a backup. Otherwise wipe all and flash a new rom.
This is why you do research and learn how to properly use your phone and any custom recovery before you reach this step. This is why manufacturers have crappy warranty policies because people ruin their phones by being stupid.

Thank for lending a hand. Instead of trial and error, I simply started a thread. Oh, and thanks for reminding me I'm stupid!!!
I had an earlier version of cyanogenmod installed, I went into rom manager and pressed update (or something like that). It did the whole installation thing but now it's just hanging at the cyanogenmod splash screen.
What do?

Have you tried to boot into recovery ? (turning it on by pressing the power button and the - volume button)
Did you backup? Always, always backup.
If not try downloading the ROM and flashing that, don't wipe just yet, if that fails you will probably need to wipe and flash again.
ok so i did a recovery of the backup i did just before trying to install cyanogen 7
FFUUUUU.... now everything is pretty much lost! even the old cyanogen is gone. What can I do?!
Was your old backup from a pre 2.3 ROM?
^^ how can i tell?
sorry for being a noob
What was the ROM you backed up before flashing CM7?
the backup i did just before trying to install cyanogen 7

it was cyanogenmod 6.1.3
Ok, your problem now is that the file system changed from 2.2 (Froyo) to 2.3 (Gingerbread) and you will need to flash a new version of ClockworkMod Recovery to restore that backup.
Do you have ENG S-OFF? You will be able to flash it via fastboot, if not you will have to start again from CM7 and downgrade ClockworkMod Recovery from there, then restore your backup.
I flashed the latest ClockworkMod Recovery (3.0.0.6) - I think before I tried to install CM7.
Restoring the backup means almost everything is gone, apps, settings, etc (but not everything). Did I **** it up? Will I have to redo everything?
If I have to do that anyway I might as well use CM7, but installing that means the splash screen hangs (I had the same problem with CM6, I dont remember how I fixed it)
Your right, to flash CM7 you needed CWM 3.x.x.x
Restoring that backup 6.1.3 will take you back to pre-CM7 so yes everything will be gone.
Have you tried just flashing CM7 again?
ok, trying to install cm7 again...
Don't wipe just yet, if it still hangs after flashing again you will then have to wipe.
****, it's hanging at the CM7 splash screen again
Ok, you will need to perform a wipe.
In CWM you have "mounts & storage"
Format boot & system, then flash CM7 again, (btw which CM7 ROM are you flashing?)
I did that (through the recovery or w/e) and then it was hanging at the HTC logo....
I had to restore the backup once again and am back where I was before
What can I do?
btw it's CM 7.0.0-RC2
Ok sounds like a full wipe is needed.
Again in CWM "mounts and storage" format everything except scdard, then back out and go into "advanced" and wipe dalvik cache.
Flash CM7 again, it should work now.
can i flash CM7 through the recovery console? because if i wipe everything then obviously i cant boot back into it?
Don't worry you can't wipe recovery from within recovery, so after a full wipe it will still be available.
before I do that, how exactly do i install CM 7 from recovery console? I think it was downloaded to my SD card but I dont see a straight forward option in the recovery console
Hi
Yesterday I made a backup using rom manager, when I had Clockworkmod recovery flashed. I tried to flash the cm6.1 rom using this recovery, but it didn't install the rom since it didn't manage to verify the whole file. So I flashed the recovery called RA Recovery v1.7.0G and flashed the cm6.1 rom using it. It finished installing the rom successfully, but now the phone is stuch in boot loop. Turning on, off, on, off, and so on, in a repeatitive loop. So I tried to use the RA recovery to restore my system with the nandroid backup, but it couldn't. It says it doesn't find the nandroid folder on the sd card. Right. There is no nandroid folder on my sd card, maybe I deleted it when I formatted the card, but I'm not sure there was a nandroid folder. But when I made the backup, the new folder of the backup was created and I saved it on my computer. it's name is the time and date of creating.
What should I do in order to restore the stock rom?? I heared that you can't restore a rom using RA's recovery if it has been backed up using clockworkmod recovery. Is that right? Help please!!!
Sorry for my bad English!
I made the backup using rom manager. I think it made a new folder called clockworkmod, and in this folder there are 2 folders, "backup" and "download", and a file called ".settings". The backup folder has a folder with the date and time of the backup I made. It has some files in it, and a file called nandroid. May someone tell me what to do?
Wipe then flash again.
Or get clockworkmod back and restore.
Or flash a sappimg and start over
Thank you for answering.
I tried to wipe data- factory reset and wipe Dalvik-cache and wipe chache, and then flashing cm6 again, but it is not working. The device is in a boot loop again. Maybe It's because I changed the name of the rom zip file of cm6 to update.zip?
How could I get back clockworkmod? Just flash it's zip file from the RA's recovery? Isn't the "flash from sd card" option in the recovery only for roms?
How could I flash sappimg and what did you mean when you sayd "start over"?
Thank you!
You can flash the recovery via the fastboot .
Which setting did you use to flash the rom ? I think you used the wrong one . And did you check the radio and spl before ?
But how can I flash the recovery via the fastboot? Do I need a computer? What file to flash? zip or img?
Isn't it possible to flash the recovery via amon ra's recovery?
I didn't check the radio and spl. (what is it radio and what is it spl?)
Which settings are you talking about?
Thank you

Flash any rom then use rom manager to get clockworkmod back. or if you have an eng spl flash it via fastboot.
Or flash it via adb in recovery.
And by "Start over" I mean get back to stock then redo the rooting process
Hi
My device is OK now.
I found a rom which made me able to turn on the device witout boot loops, and then I used rom manager to flash clockworkmod, and I used it to restore the system from my backup. Now I have my original stock rom.
Thank you doilathe3112 and tvall for helping! May G-d bless you!
