I'm having some serious issues with my phone. This morning the battery was suddenly drained completely, don’t know why yet. Then after charging the phone a bit and rebooting it, it constantly goes into driving mode and starting the voice command application. The most strange thing however is that when I choose to power off the phone, it shuts down but then automatically reboots.
I know I should try factory reset, but anyone else had this problem?
(I have original firmware and the phone isn't rooted)
EDIT:
Doing a hard reset seems to have solved the problem.
Maybe your power button is broken (constantly pressed)? Did the phone get wet?
I have not heard of this. I've heard of bootloops and the phone rebooting when trying to power off but thats usually due to custom roms and people flashing over other custom roms which causes conflict. I think factory reset may be the only option. However, with the Galaxy S there used to be a way to get into safe mode. I beleive you'd hit the menu button as soon as you saw the Galaxy S boot logo. I haven't heard of a safe mode yet for SGS2 but perhaps someone can confirm if its available in this model?
If you can still get into settings of the phone when its on, I'd try going into Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and clearning data for voice commands
It almost seems as though your phone is registering home button being clicked thereby turning voice mode on and also turning it back on after a power off.

Hi,
I was have exactly same problem, reset don't resolve my issue.
Solution was to replace my phone.
Thanks for the help, gonna try factory reset first. But this doesn't look like a software problem, so probably gonna need to replace it

Well this is a strange problem. Is it possible a bread crumb got under your buttons? Or some case is so tight it is pressing on some buttons?
Don't have a case around it, but the power button isn't stuck I think because wouldn't the menu for shutting down the phone etc. appaer constantly? And if it's something under the buttons then it is just bad design, had the phone only a couple of weeks.

I had the same problem mate. And that was exactly what I thought, I actually started a thread on this problem about 2 weeks ago. Was really strange, people told me to take it back. But What I did was factory reset on the phone. Which still didn't completely solve my problem. So I left the battery out the phone over night. The most annoying thing was, the screen kept turning on, like something was being pressed, can't have been the middle button, because the menu would have come up, it didn't do that. And then to make matters worse the tap to speak driving mode kept coming up.
I then took out the battery and left it out over night. Put it back in, in the morning. Charged it up. Didn't do it again.
Hope that helps. Try it.
Ok thanks, I will try it. It is really a strange problem as you say. After the factory reset the problem showed up again but not as often as before. Also after upgrading to latest firmware today, according to the battery monitor android OS is using 45%, that looks really strange to me.

It all started when I upgraded to a new rom. So the first thing I did was ditch the rom and install a new rom. I was running Black 3.0.1 and now updated to Black Satin.
The time it takes to lock up seems to very. I have had times where I could leave it for 4hrs and then hit the power button and it comes to life, other times I can have it sit for 30mins and hit the power button only to find it won't wake up. When it is in its locked up state, it won't even receive calls. It just sits there with the top right led blinking green. Its really getting frustrating.
In order to get it to come back I have to push the reset button on the bottom of the phone with my stylus.
I have been reading as many "lock up" threads as I can on the forum and so far it seems that most are to do with Push Mail. Which I don't use.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
I dont know if its a ROM issue as my does this sometimes (dont know about incoming calls as i dont get that many anyway) I am on the stock T-Mobile rom
I dont use push mail either
doesn't happen much to me (now i said i bet it does it all the time )
I think it seems to do it when i havnt soft restarted it for a while, so it could be that the lock up is due to memory or something and it just needs a soft reset to clear it down
I also have this problem, only a soft reset makes the phone respond. This happens sometimes when the phone has only been reset an hour previously.
It also happened once during the night and caused my alarm to not go off, so I only made it to the office for 10:30!!
Did you guys find a solution or did the problem just go away?
bump
got the same problem.
For me the problem went away only after I installed a new radio and new rom. I honestly don't know what was causing the problem. But it went away and I am happy. There might have been an issue with an installed app, but I never did find any app that directly caused the issue.
Hey everyone, I'm not sure whats going on with my HD2. Last night I was transferring my stuff from my fuze to my HD2 with PIMbackup, and it went well but after a little while it started acting a little weird. I transferred about 1200 sms messages, which I'm thinking makes it act a little weird because of the amount but I'm not sure. Then I started getting an error report saying a problem has occured with services.exe, and after that it froze and would not turn off, so I had to take the battery out and put it back in, but then the same problem happened again ten minutes later and I did the same thing again. And just now about 20 mins ago it froze and I did the battery thing again, but when it started back up it was very sluggish and I checked task manager but there were no programs running. I am confused about this because I got this phone yesterday and since then I havent really used it since I havent unlocked it yet, I have at&t, but I did install a program from the marketplace called wallpapers, but I'm not sure if thats the issue
I appreciate any help
did you transfer programs and registry settings? cos tarts not a good idea even between roms on the same phone, let alone across different phones.
no all I did was use the PIM backup and restore utility to transfer over appointments, call logs, contacts, messages, speed dials, and tasks. I dont think it transferred any registry files or anything
anyone know a fix to this? If not, will hard resetting my device do the trick?
Also, if I hard reset the device, will i lose all the stuff the phone came with like the transformers movie and programs, should I also remove the sd card while doing the reset?
any help is appreciated
The transfer of backed up SMS files, on occasion, can have a seriously negative effect on a "new" or different device from which they came and/or originated.
Try downloading an application called, MemMaid, and run the "Advanced Cleaner" which can run quite the detailed scan of all your system files, various cache folders, and much, much more.
Your device is fine, just a little cluttered I'm sure.
Ok, now I'm scared. I dont know wtf is going on, for some reason my phone wont turn on, I did a soft reset and the phone came on and it was sluggish, so I left it alone and it went on standby, then I pushed the lock button and it didnt turn on, the buttons just lit up, nothing else. So I took out the battery and put it back in and loaded it up and it was sluggish again, so I pushed the lock button to put it in standby and pressed the lock button again and the screen didnt turn on, but after a minute or two it turned back on, weird The weird thing is that after the error report for services.exe comes up and then the phone goes back to normal, no sluggishness.
So I just wanna know if I should hard reset it, or return it or what?
Definitely do a hard reset before trying to return it.

Try a hard reset and let us know how it goes. Don't worry, I've never actually heard of anyone bricking their device with PIM before
only the buttons lighting up when you press power is well known and called "sleep of death"
theres a thread in normal hd2 section called "hd2 died....or did it?"
have a read of that.
well i did a hard reset and everything went back to normal, it mustve been one of the programs i had installed, which were the bn ereader, marketplace, those games.
Seems like the SMS client likes to barf all over itself when people get a lot of texts going. I had about 2k texts going and my phone acted all kinds of crazy. I deleted most of them and it works fine again.
thats what i was thinking too. So does anyone here know how I can transfer all my text messages without it messing up my phone?
Hello
My HD2 Worked well for a long time, but now everytime I press the "sleep" key it turns off for half a second then turns back on and proudly displays the lockscreen without me pressing anything. There is no way to turn the screen off and go in standby mode anymore.
Obviously the battery drains so much faster from not being able to have the screen off and this silly problem actually makes the phone unusable
I flashed a few roms using HardSPL and now HSPL2. I'm currently running Artemis 11.0, the problem appeared may days after flashing while using Artemis ROM 9.0. A hard reset seemed to fix it but the problem reappeared. Today flashing 11.0 only solved the problem at first boot.
Anyone had that before? Not sure if it's software/rom related or not anymore. HELP
As far as Ive seen, its only you an me who have had this problem so far.
Honestly, Im relieved to see someone else with this problem.
I had exactly as you described, but using Axlor roms.
It worked fine for 1/2months, then all of a suddon the screen backlight wouldnt go off, but a reset fixed it.
But it got worse and worse.
Now nothing will work...
Ive taken everything back to stock, and i mean EVERYTHING! Not a single app installed.
And I still have this problem. I've tried it all.
I think its a warrenty job....
EDIT:
I also noticed the backlight will go off fine when the phone is charging, is that the same for you?
I just sent the phone off to Tmob today, to see if they can fix/replace it.
I'll keep you informed.
Same problem. Was running fine on stock ROM 1.66 then backlight did not dim and would not go into standby. Put into standby, screen goes off then straight back on to the lock screen. Since then have had other problems at boot, sometimes it locks on HTC white screen needing battery removal, sometimes launches straight into Navipanel and will not exit, HTC sense homescreen sometimes launches in landscape and will not go into normal portrait mode. Reflashed with different ROM's same symptoms persist so have returned to Vodafone UK under warranty, fingers crossed.
i've had this on early versions of the rom i use, the chef fixed it, making me think its the software, not your phone.
I experienced this issue when I minimised a game called virtual pool. Closing it in task manager would then allow me to permanently make the phone sleep.

How come Ive still got the problem after reflashing several times and taking everything back to exactly as it came from the box?

I too have had the navi panel problem.
Im praying they fix mine under warrenty
Yes the problem is exactly what you describe, hard reset and flashing to a stock rom doesn t fix it with no programm running in the background
Navipanel seems to be on randomly sometimes so can I guess it could be related.
I found a fix, after starting the phone, plugging and unplugging the usb cable to the phone WHILE THE SCREEN IS ON fixes it but only until the next restart
Considering sending it for warranty now.
Thanks for replies! If anybody knows more let us know
Update re standby problem
Got my phone back from Vodafone UK today. Was advised software corrupted and that they had reflashed and it had been fully tested and was now working fine.
On power up (even without SD card or SIM) it had exactly the same fault as before, when put into sleep mode the screen comes back on after about 1 second.
I tried the plug in and remove USB lead fix and this also works for me until the next restart so it would seem that this must be a hardware problem.

Thanks for this workaround. Now with the urgency gone hopefully somebody finds a lasting solution without the need of sending it in..
I have same problem guys after 4 months using. ...and my HD2 is unusable with no standby. I mean battery gets weak during 2-3 hours. Whats your guess guys is it software problem. Cause Im afraid of this is hardware prob because after reset goes my device in wrong state.
Help!
Sadly I'm running into this same error with my t-mobile hd2....getting serious power drain...can anyone confirm if the task 29 helped at all? Mine won't stay off for more than 30 seconds.
** Found out the google easy sms beta app I was running had a service which was causing the app to come out of standby...uninstalling this app cured the problem.
For me, it was a sd slot problem. When i removed the sd card, phone always waked up after 0.5 seconds, and card was detected as bad.
Now the SD slot was changed (under guarranty) and it work fine, no wake up if sd slot is empty.
Any update on this? My HD2 starting doing this today as well
And I have no usb cable at work to 'trick' it. The only option is to pull the battery which I don't want to do. This is ridiculous. Am I going to have to hard-reset the damn thing to fix it?
FYI I didn't do *ANYTHING* to my phone in a couple of weeks (no new apps, etc.) and it started doing this out of the blue.
You hit the red 'end call' button and it goes black..then comes right back on.
The odd thing is it *thinks* its plugged in because the only screen setting I can get it to acknoweldge is the 'backlight level when charging'. So somehow my phone thinks its plugged in even though my only usb cable is back home.
Grrr. No registry tweaks or temp files I can delete to reset this behavior?
Since I have got it (2 weeks ago) i have picked up my phone make a call, and on about 7-8 occasions, have noticed that the phone is turned off, and I can't get it to turn on. The only solution is to take out the battery and put it back in. Has anyone else experienced this. I have updated to JH2 firmware, but it still happens. I even got a new battery for the phone (Bell employee let me swap with another phone that was going back to samsung for gps issues), but the problem still happens once in awhile (like every 2 days, sometimes more sometimes less). Anyone have any ideas? thanks
More likely that it just "freezes" and you can't get it to react, then the solution is to take out and back in the battery - Sounds like a defective unit to me.
i think your phone was unable to wake? i have that problem previously where i can still call through my phone (using another phone) but there's no vibration / notifications of sorts.
i then realized i've been playing with SetCPU of late, long story short, i uninstalled the application, rebooted and all is fine since then.
good luck!
if it still persists, i'd do a reflash, wipe every bit of data available + formatting my SD cards. lol.

So..are you saying that the phone is actually still 'on'...just the screen is not turning on?
yeee sort of. lol. but why it's unable to answer, yet able to receive calls. i have no idea. same goes for any kind of notification that wakes your screen (SMS, calls, alarm, etc.)
Next time it happens, i'll try calling the phone to see what happens...I dont wanna return it because I have a 'rare' phone that seems to have good gps and can enter recovery mode.
you should check bell to see if there working and have recovery mode i got my just recently the newer shipments are hopefully all working with recovery mode and good gps
Did you install any Lockscreen app or something similar? I´ve read about another guy who had similar problems with a not waking up device. And it was a lockscreen app that caused this.
Yeah, I agree with everyone. I had SetCPU on my device and it would shut off a bunch of times per day. After I unintalled it everything worked fine. Another trick you can try is when the phone "freezes" try to hold down the home key. You sould still get the task manager box.
My first SGS did this a lot. My second and third SGS have not done this. Conclusion: faulty.
Yep...
I'm with mine for more than three weeks now, and I've never managed to cause it to freeze/shut down. although yours considerable rare, You'd rather have a working device I presume...

No, i haven't installed any apps like that. Like i said, GPS works 'ok' on this phone and it enters recovery mode. Thats why I would hope its a software thing and can be fixed. I will go back to get an exchange today ONLY if they let me try it out 1st (recovery mode).
I've had this happen twice, both times I was charging the phone with the screen locked and the cable was accidentally violently jerked out, after that my phone wouldn't turn back on without a battery pull. It has not happened of it's own accord though.
I tried posting this in the Sprint thread but haven't gotten any answers yet so perhaps I'll have better luck here. I pasted both posts to show the initial problem and what I did (essentially I factory reset). I'm still having the same problem where my phone will freeze while I'm charging it (about 2-3 times/week) requiring a battery pull. Anybody else seeing this problem or have suggestions on what I should try? Thanks.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Twice this week my alarm didn't go off (luckily I set a backup today) because sometime throughout the night something happened. When I woke up the phone was frozen on the yellow Sprint Spark startup screen. I needed to pull the battery and everything started up fine. I updated to Lollipop about 2 weeks ago which is where I'm guessing the issues stem from.
Is there anything I should try other than restoring to factory and starting over? I'd prefer to not have to wipe everything from my phone but these issues are becoming problematic. I am not rooted.
Thanks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
So I ended up doing a factory reset and while the phone certainly started running faster with better battery performance after the reset I'm still having this issue. I would say it occurs 2-3 times a week. It has only occurred overnight which is typically when I charge my phone so I'm pretty sure it is related to being left connected to the charger. The majority of the times I will wake up with a dim yellow Sprint screen and everything else frozen though occasionally the screen will be black with the led notification light red. In both situations the screen will not respond to any button pushes or holds and I need to pull the battery and then everything will start up fine.
Does anybody have any suggestions here on what I should do? I guess I can try and restore one more time and see but I don't really know why it would be different and it is certainly a pain to keep restoring the phone and losing all my settings. I definitely don't want to root now since I believe that voids the warranty and if I can't figure anything out with this I'll certainly be requesting a new phone from Sprint. Before I start dealing with Sprint though I thought I would check here first. Through all my searches on the internet I haven't seen anyone else complaining about this problem.
Thanks.

Hi there. I have a Canadian Note 4 (W8) with Bell, and I am having identical issues.
While charging over night, I find my phone stuck on "Samsung" logo, with the bubble animal still running. Holding down the power button does nothing and the only work around is the battery pull. I noticed that it also gets warm (assuming from the screen on time?)
First tried cache wipe - no fix
Factory reset - no fix
Cache wipe again - no fix
Aaaand today I came into work late

Definitely after the upgrade.
While on KitKat, it never happened (1 month ownership). But after upgrading to lollipop, it has happened 4 times (6 nights since lollipop).
Have you figured anything out with your situation? Woke up this morning to my backup alarm and the Yellow Sprint screen on my phone.
I guess I'll have to try another factory reset and if it still happens try and get a replacement. It just doesn't seem widespread enough of an issue to be a software bug with 5.0.1.
Very frustrated. I did another factory reset but the issue still plagues my device. It still only occurs once or twice a week but when I hear my old clock radio alarm in the morning I know when I look over I'll see the yellow frozen Sprint Spark screen. I am completely out of ideas and guess I will need to have it replaced under warranty. I'm hoping Sprint won't give me a hard time as this will be very hard to demonstrate.
It definitely appears to be a software issue as it never happened before I upgraded to Lollipop but there must be more to it or others would be complaining.
If anybody has ideas please let me know. Thanks.
Response to Note 4 Freeezing while charging
I have found that after turning the quick charge feature off the problem is not happening. Hopefully this is fixed in 5.1
I'm having the same issue even after turning quick charge off..def a lollipop bug, never experienced this on kk.
I know its not the BEST option, but after taking the update to lollipop, sometimes left over kitkat files can make the system poop out. Sometimes a factory reset will take care of the leftovers. But of course, then you have to set your phone up again
If you've tried this or plan to to, let us know the results.
(When i first took the update, my heartrate monitor sensor was always on, so i did a factory reset and it fixed my problem).
Solved with workaround!!!
I faced this "sleep of death" too after updating to Lollipop. I had to pull out the battery almost every time after charging. Very annoying! I noticed though that my phone never froze in my car while charging. Thinking about the difference I realised that I keep my phone awake in the car while charging using Macrodroid (which I love anyway to automise all kinds of things). I made a simple macro which keeps my phone awake while charging and another one that returns the phone to normal while on battery.
While charging: Trigger: Power Connected; Actions: Keep Device Awake enabled & Screen Off, Constraints: None
On Battery: Trigger: Power Disconnected; Actions: Keep Device Awake disabled & Screen Off, Constraints: None
Off course there are alternatives available to Macrodroid that should be able to do the same.
My problems are solved, with and without fast charging. I hope this will help some of you as well.
same problem here
Ive tried turning off fast charging option on the powersaving mode
And also tried the option on developer mode, the "keep device awake while charging"
And even flashing dofferent firmwares from sammobile through ODIN and installed custom roms. These options doesnt resolve the issues on freezing while charging..
I think turnong off your device while charging is the only option..
Im using note4 N910C..

Thanks a lot, Mate. I'm trying your workaround now. Will report later if it works on my phone. BTW, so, are you sure it is a just a system issue? Definitely, isn't a hardware problem? Did you fix it, after your post -a month ago-, installing, for example, lollipop 5.1.1 or Cyanogenmod 12.1? I'm on 5.0.1, SimpleRom V4. Of course, mi device, N910C, is rooted.
Thanks again.
With lollipop 5.1.1 the problem is solved for me, even without this workaround.

I'm having similar issues as you guys. I found out that my phone will only perform normally when I charge it with my laptop USB port which I think is around 0.5amps. Anything above that, even a 1amp charger would cause the phone to freeze, reboot and turn off and not turn back on. The phone has been in repair 4 times and the problem is still there. Now every night I'm forced to charge my phone with my laptop which takes an age instead of the fast charger that came out of the box.
Currently my phone is still freezing and rebooting when I'm out and about and the only way I can get it to perform normally is when I plug it into my laptop. This normal functioning would only last whilst the phone is plugged in.
