[Q] Root B136 Firmware - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Having applied the OTA update in Australia on Crazy John's, i believe i am running 136 Firmware.
Build number :-
U8800v100R001C00B136SP02
Very happy with the new firmware, stability much improved as is the call quality and camera. However, I am unable to root the phone using z4root.
Is there another method for rooting now?
Thanks,
Joe

Superboot roots this beautifully painless
Can't post the link as i'm a noob. So google this :-
25 May r1: Superboot (and then some!) for the Huawei U8800 / Ideos X5

z4root worked for me after upgrade

im on B136 and z4root rooted my X5 without any problem..

Other option is superoneclick root and that worked for me on B137 as well.

For which ROM? I have "U8800 V100R001C00B137CUSTC44D001 (Mongolia Unitel)" but z4root and SuperOneClick won't root this phone. With B136 firmwares z4root worked fine.

Easiest way to root !
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...-and-then-some-for-the-huawei-u8800-ideos-x5/
This should work with almost all ROM's out.

hey what version of SuperOne Click? I am using Mongolia Unitel (B137, Android 2.2.2), I'm using
SuperOneClick V1.9, and it works perfectly. Grab the latest version then let me know.

Oh see, works perfectly for me.
EDIT: Silly question, but is USB debugging on? I know Z4root won't work because of the changes in 2.2.2, but SuperOneClick should work as long as USB debugging is on, ADB is there aswell as correct drivers.

USB debugging was on, but the drivers we're not correctly installed. Now it works.

Good to hear!

I used Superboot root, and it rooted fine. Only problem is that the boot image doesn't have overclock in it. So when you switch boot.img to Genokolar's Overclock kernal, you still have root, but not total root.
Not sure that makes any sense, so here's an example: superuser works fine and apps get root, however if you go into terminal emulator and type "free", you get an access denied. Since my phone overclocks to 1.8GHz beautifully, I like to have overclock access in case I want it.
Does SuperOneClick or Z4root work with genokolar's roms? I'm considering making the jump to his ROM-B136+B160 V7, since it is Android 2.2.

Is busybox installed? Check if /system/xbin/busybox exist, if it does, try 'busybox free' or even '/system/xbin/busybox free' in terminal.
Genokola's ROM comes rooted, no need for z4root things.

just rooted my Ideos X5 with z4root (B136 SP02 - OTA update)
Everything seems to be working fine (replaced camera libs and deleted bloatware)
I noticed that busybox ins't installed however; is this something I should be worried about ? (Shoudl I try root it again ?)

Have you made sure and checked the 'USB debugging' option in the settings?
Yes I
Yes I have
Have you tried this method?
I think youd better try superoneclick for root
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Ok. I bow before the grace your knowledge and what I have learned. Got busybox. Titanium backup running have root. Much appreciated.
would u knows about froyo 2.2 for the defy? Success is it or no good as of yet?

I've been using Froyo on my Defy for a while now, it's fine.
To be honest, overall I wouldn't say it's much of an improvement over Éclair but it's nice to have apps like ChromeToPhone.
When you can't adb push (get permission denied), first make sure you have done:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
and have write permission for everyone(not just root) for the directory in question:
Code:
chmod 777 /system/app
I'm a newbie in android and rooting. read a few threads but still can't figure it out. when I run z4root it comes to aquiring root shell. and then it switches to the normal screen and nothing happends. no reboot. can somebody help me?
What ROM is your handset running just now?
it's Blur_Version.2.51.1.MB525.Retail.en.DE if you mean this (as already said I'm really a newbie..)
Yeah, that's what I meant.
It's a 2.51 ROM so to root it, follow the link I posted earlier in the thread.
The superoneclick root isn't is?
I tried it but it stops at waiting for device and I also switched debugging on and off like mentioned but it just can't find my device... adb also can't...
Try SuperOneClick... search the forum, I believe it's in somewhere
When you do get the software, first install Motorola driver, then make sure that USB debugging is enabled before you try to root.
try superoneclick it worked for me...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913709
have motorola driver and USB debugging enabled still not finding the device...
so SuperOneClick also doesn't work...
did you installed mote defy driver on pc?
okay problem solved-.- thought a friend of mine(who helped me getting into the android stuff) already installed the driver... he didn't. so it rooted now thanks for your help=)

Rooted Then Updated Then Lost Root??

I recently rooted my atrix with superoneclick then i accidently updated then i belive i still had my root until i went to install a 3d theme then my phone crashed and wouldnt get past the at&t screen so i had to erase everything now on my phone i still have "super user" in my app draw but i cannot side load apps did i lose my root? what do i have to do to sideload apps again ? and i guess re root my phone
Yes i am a newb i am comming from IOS and an iPhone 4 please dont flame
If you updated, you mean 4.1.57, this is what I did to re-root when I lost mine after updating and SuperOneClick wouldn't work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013931
Ok so i read that so basically i have to flash my phone back to default then root again?
Yeap, that's exactly what I did, but in that same thread, I think someone else outlined using aRoot to go over SuperOneClick.

Also, if I need aRoot, can I run it over top SuperOneClick, or would it be best to unroot, run aRoot (or let the script root) and then run the script?
I appreciate all the hard work I've seen done in these forums and appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Yes you may safely run aroot over superoneclick. Aroot is the recommended method because it cleans up a lot of things Superroneclick does.

Thank you both. I believe I will try running aRoot over my SuperOneClick root and then try out the script. Thanks again!

Yup the aRoot script is used in the GladiAtrix and possibly the GingerBlur rom as well. Either way. SOC is crap, not meant for atrix anyway. aRoot was written specifically for the Atrix. If you want to update to 4.1.57 read through the retain root thread over in atrix development.
after update, i can still see "su" installed in /system/bin/
I am unable to use it, getting permissioned denied message, any solutions ?

This has been explained many times. updating kills root, even though you still have superuser installed. to retain root you need to use the script in the development section when updating from 1.26 to 1.57. flash back to 1.26 and try again.

[Q] Can not root Defy after update, Tried several methods

Hey,
My girlfriend has a Motorla Defy.
When she got it, i wanted to update it from 2.1 to at least 2.2 so foolish me, I went with the idea to see how the Stock 2.2.2 looks like, if it is good she can keep it, and just root it.
Well its not that nice, and now I can not root her phone.
I tried Z4. I tried SuperOneclick (more than one version ) I had usb debugging on, and I tried a manual method i found here on the forums (it basically contained adb usage, as of pushing the files, and then changing the permissions of the exploit and running it)
And now I am out of ideas, as I use Samsung Galaxy didnt think about problems with flashing another rom (anything can be done with Odin).
I want to put miui on her phone, but i dont see it possible without root.
Her software versions are :
system version
version.34.164.3.MB525.Retail.en.FR
model number:
MB525
Firmware version:
2.2.2
Baseband version:
EPU93_U_00.59.00
Kernel version:
[email protected]#1
BPflex version:
UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA03A.0R
APflex version:
GAS_EMEA_USAJRDNFRYORTFR_P014
Build number:
3.4.2-164
I think motorola patched the rageagainstthecage exploit in that update. =/
Any idea how to get rid of this rom, where i can use the exploit?
Yea, I can not downgrade, since it was an official upgrade, probably not downgradable....
Any any any idea please?
Thank you in advance to you guys.
You can try gingerbreak or flash clockwork recovery through fastboot

Did you enabled "debug usb" mode?
You could reflash the rom and try to root afterwards. personaly i never had problems with rooting my defy.
i followed the steps from this thread

If you read my whole post, yes, I did enable debug mode during the whole process.
Did you use a "portal mode":
from SuperOneClick thread-
Make sure you DO NOT mount your SD card.
Yep

To be honest, I don't remember. But I suppose not mounting the SD card is to make it possible to copy the exploit on the phone. That I could do.
I wish my girlfriend still would be here. (We live on different continents...)
She is kinda lazy for these things, but ill make her try a few things out.
The portal mode -you referred to -, is the charge only mode, i suppose.
Maybe i will try to extract the newer exploit from SuperOneClick, and just do what i have to manually.....
This thing is very annoying. =/
i updated to 2.2.2,i found i had to use superoneclick twice and on the second time it rooted
Can you tell me.....

Thank you in advance.
The "portal mode" is on the top of list (then connected USB, there 4 items - portal mode; charging; SD mount; none (if I remembered correct))

when I updated to 2.2.2, first I tried z4root - that didn't work. Then I tried SOC 1.9.1, it rooted OK, but failed on "not marked apps". After day or two there was v 1.9.5 and this do a job on "not market apps"
For me

For me SOC failed every version of it i tried. Z4 was trying but then exited, and nothing happened. Then I went on with pushing the files and the exploit onto the phone, and running the exploit by hand. Well, I didnt get root shell back there either, so I couldnt proceed. That is when I decided to open this topic.
I believe SuperOneClick has two exploits in it, this psneuter, and a certain 'rageagainstthecage'.
Did you try this one?
I used

Can't root after 6.2 firmware update

First time posting here and sadly I have a problem I need help with.
So I lost root access after the 6.2 update and I haven't been able to root again using Superoneclick root 2.3. I typed adb devices in command prompt and it came up with this:
48F2000600000001 offline
Superoneclick root 2.3 freezes after I try to root. Any ideas?
You can download the update version of SuperOneClick v2.3.1

As promised:
Click here to download SuperOneClick v2.3.1
Let’s see if driver installation is a thing of the past now.
You’ll notice the file size has bumped up to 10mb. This is because the driver folder is now included with the latest (at the time of writing) ADB drivers from Google.
Enjoy!
Update: I have a 5mbit upload so at times the download queue may be full. You might have to be a bit patient with my server. If somebody would like to post a download, you can do so in the comments.
Update2: v2.3.1 is up (had to remove testing code that conflicted with XP systems)
Update3: Links are now mapped to a multiupload sharing. (My internet connection has been slowed ridiculously)

Connet your Kindle Fire to your PC with USB line, keep it locked.
Run SuperOneClick v2.3.1
Click "Unroot" Button to unroot your KF.
Then click "Root" Button to reroot your device.
I met the same problem with you and I do this way to resolve it.
Also I install newer version of BusyBox if needed.
Superoneclick freezes instantly once I select root or unroot.
Darnit! superoneclick wont work on 6.2 update...any way to back down to 6.1?

[Q] 2.2 -> 2.3 -> ICS | Rooting impossible

I have a problem as I am now in circle of problems.
I need to have a rooted Android to install a clockwork mod.
But I need to have clockwork mod installed so I can install a b518 bootloader
But as clockwork mod installation needs root, I can not install anything.
I have now Official 2.3.5 b526 and I can not download b518 because terrible sharing sites (torrents anyone?), it toke 6 hours to even get the b526 with my nice 10Mibts connection so I don't want to spend next 12 hours trying to get a older version with multiple interrupts and re-downloads with capped speeds.
I have now browsed almost three hours XDA forums about this problem. No one can say directly how to solve thing.
I can return to 2.2 version fine but I don't want. I can root 2.2 fine and install CWM.
With 2.3 I can not root. Not with Z4root, SuperOneClick, Superuser, Superbootloader or any other way. All those say that I have rooted phone and even CWM manager things I have rooted phone but everytime root permissions are needed, everything fails just to errors that permissions are not possible to gain.
I have rooted, unrooted b526 and b136 versions multiple times but never got working root.
So question is very simple.
How to actually get Official 2.3 rooted?
