Yes I
Yes I have
Have you tried this method?
I think youd better try superoneclick for root

Ok. I bow before the grace your knowledge and what I have learned. Got busybox. Titanium backup running have root. Much appreciated.
would u knows about froyo 2.2 for the defy? Success is it or no good as of yet?

I've been using Froyo on my Defy for a while now, it's fine.
To be honest, overall I wouldn't say it's much of an improvement over Éclair but it's nice to have apps like ChromeToPhone.
When you can't adb push (get permission denied), first make sure you have done:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
and have write permission for everyone(not just root) for the directory in question:
Code:
chmod 777 /system/app
I'm a newbie in android and rooting. read a few threads but still can't figure it out. when I run z4root it comes to aquiring root shell. and then it switches to the normal screen and nothing happends. no reboot. can somebody help me?
What ROM is your handset running just now?
it's Blur_Version.2.51.1.MB525.Retail.en.DE if you mean this (as already said I'm really a newbie..)
Yeah, that's what I meant.
It's a 2.51 ROM so to root it, follow the link I posted earlier in the thread.
The superoneclick root isn't is?
I tried it but it stops at waiting for device and I also switched debugging on and off like mentioned but it just can't find my device... adb also can't...
Try SuperOneClick... search the forum, I believe it's in somewhere
When you do get the software, first install Motorola driver, then make sure that USB debugging is enabled before you try to root.
try superoneclick it worked for me...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913709
have motorola driver and USB debugging enabled still not finding the device...
so SuperOneClick also doesn't work...
did you installed mote defy driver on pc?
okay problem solved-.- thought a friend of mine(who helped me getting into the android stuff) already installed the driver... he didn't. so it rooted now thanks for your help=)

I recently rooted my atrix with superoneclick then i accidently updated then i belive i still had my root until i went to install a 3d theme then my phone crashed and wouldnt get past the at&t screen so i had to erase everything now on my phone i still have "super user" in my app draw but i cannot side load apps did i lose my root? what do i have to do to sideload apps again ? and i guess re root my phone
Yes i am a newb i am comming from IOS and an iPhone 4 please dont flame
If you updated, you mean 4.1.57, this is what I did to re-root when I lost mine after updating and SuperOneClick wouldn't work.

Ok so i read that so basically i have to flash my phone back to default then root again?
Yeap, that's exactly what I did, but in that same thread, I think someone else outlined using aRoot to go over SuperOneClick.

Also, if I need aRoot, can I run it over top SuperOneClick, or would it be best to unroot, run aRoot (or let the script root) and then run the script?
I appreciate all the hard work I've seen done in these forums and appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Yes you may safely run aroot over superoneclick. Aroot is the recommended method because it cleans up a lot of things Superroneclick does.

Thank you both. I believe I will try running aRoot over my SuperOneClick root and then try out the script. Thanks again!

Yup the aRoot script is used in the GladiAtrix and possibly the GingerBlur rom as well. Either way. SOC is crap, not meant for atrix anyway. aRoot was written specifically for the Atrix. If you want to update to 4.1.57 read through the retain root thread over in atrix development.
after update, i can still see "su" installed in /system/bin/
I am unable to use it, getting permissioned denied message, any solutions ?

This has been explained many times. updating kills root, even though you still have superuser installed. to retain root you need to use the script in the development section when updating from 1.26 to 1.57. flash back to 1.26 and try again.
Hey,
My girlfriend has a Motorla Defy.
When she got it, i wanted to update it from 2.1 to at least 2.2 so foolish me, I went with the idea to see how the Stock 2.2.2 looks like, if it is good she can keep it, and just root it.
Well its not that nice, and now I can not root her phone.
I tried Z4. I tried SuperOneclick (more than one version ) I had usb debugging on, and I tried a manual method i found here on the forums (it basically contained adb usage, as of pushing the files, and then changing the permissions of the exploit and running it)
And now I am out of ideas, as I use Samsung Galaxy didnt think about problems with flashing another rom (anything can be done with Odin).
I want to put miui on her phone, but i dont see it possible without root.
Her software versions are :
system version
version.34.164.3.MB525.Retail.en.FR
model number:
MB525
Firmware version:
2.2.2
Baseband version:
EPU93_U_00.59.00
Kernel version:
[email protected]#1
BPflex version:
UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA03A.0R
APflex version:
GAS_EMEA_USAJRDNFRYORTFR_P014
Build number:
3.4.2-164
I think motorola patched the rageagainstthecage exploit in that update. =/
Any idea how to get rid of this rom, where i can use the exploit?
Yea, I can not downgrade, since it was an official upgrade, probably not downgradable....
Any any any idea please?
Thank you in advance to you guys.

To be honest, I don't remember. But I suppose not mounting the SD card is to make it possible to copy the exploit on the phone. That I could do.
I wish my girlfriend still would be here. (We live on different continents...)
She is kinda lazy for these things, but ill make her try a few things out.
The portal mode -you referred to -, is the charge only mode, i suppose.
Maybe i will try to extract the newer exploit from SuperOneClick, and just do what i have to manually.....
This thing is very annoying. =/

For me SOC failed every version of it i tried. Z4 was trying but then exited, and nothing happened. Then I went on with pushing the files and the exploit onto the phone, and running the exploit by hand. Well, I didnt get root shell back there either, so I couldnt proceed. That is when I decided to open this topic.
I believe SuperOneClick has two exploits in it, this psneuter, and a certain 'rageagainstthecage'.

Today My friend bought a Motorola (with Chinese rom) and updated on the same way i did with my girlfriends mobile. Then I ran the SuperOneClick for him, and it did the trick for first try....... It is Weiiiird.
i've the same version and the same problem with rooting!! I'm triyng to root it from many hours with a lot of methods but nothing.
Has anyone rooot it and HOW?
Ok, first of all I know there are a million threads about rooting, believe me, I've looked through all of them otherwise I wouldn't be here posting
Now, my problem is that I finally want to root my HTC-Hero to give the fella some new life. However, I have literally tried everything and nothing has worked so far.
I have tried:
Superoneclick
Androot
Z4
via command prompt (coupled with sdk)
Info about my phone:
firmware 2.1 - update 1
build number 3.36.405.1
so far there seems to be a consistent problem: su is found in the folder bin, superuser is placed as should in 'apps'. however, superuser doesn't show up in my app list (yes I've tried rebooting a million times) and via connectbot (terminal) it simply either denies access to su or does not seem to change $ to #. Furthermore, all programs (s.o.c. - androot & Z4root say 'you're rooted' .. however, this is not true).
I am seriously desperate at this point because I want to run cyanogenmod, find a nice theme and gain root access altogether to make my phone a bit snappier. All help is welcome (I'm willing to try anything at this point!).
Thanks in advance !!!
Ok. If either people can't or won't help.. can someone at least point me in the right direction ?? pretty please with lots of sugary **** on top
I think there was a big hoo-haa about HTC locking out root quite well on their 2.1 update. I've been rooted since 1.5 so I didn't pay too much attention, but I think you had to make a goldcard then downgrade to 1.5 in order to root the official 2.1. Its an older method, but as you said all the other methods didn't work, I guess that is your best bet.

Nope, I rooted with Androot from the Official 2.1 update. I used this guide: http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/s...de-Newbie-Guide-to-Install-VillainROM-amp-FaQ
He said he used androot with no success though, which is why I suggested goldcarding it.
Try this link same like the villain rom above , I would suggest you try the ADB way
its much more easier
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/1930-How-To-Root-The-2.1-RUU-or-OTA-Update-For-The-Hero
Gold Card is not required anymore.. there are more easier ways like through ADB if you do it properly
Hi guys thanks for the suggestions. I've tried them but still without luck so far. I guess I will indeed try the goldcard method sometime soon because I think I'm running out of other options.
It's quite weird to say the least though since UniAndroot does say 'woot! you're rooted' but SU doesn't show up and in terminal I still can't get superuser access.
sigh
Uninstall your superuser first, then open androot and root again. The androot will install a superuser in your phone, then you can run it normally.
I had same problem problem, hopefully it helps you

Go there to downgrade.
If the links don't work search. If no one flames you for asking this question it will be a miracle. Good luck with the downgrade. Remember - copy/paste is your friend.
thanks for quick reply
but i can skip all those step straight to downgrade right?
also im trying to do Manual Downgrade.. i put the PD15IMG.zip rom to sdcard
but where do i put > adb reboot bootloader ?
The steps are laid out for each device. Skip nothing. adb reboot bootloader is a command given to adb. You will need to install adb and use it to run a program (fr3vo?) that uses an exploit to gain temp root. Then copy/paste commands to fool your phone into thinking its bootloader and firmware are older than 2.2.1. Once that is done you can flash the froyo PD15IMG.zip. Don't do this until you understand a little more. You may brick your phone otherwise.
Read the guide. Look up anything that doesn't make sense. Then read the guide again.
im at the downgrade step now
where can i get 2.2.1 firmware?
and how can my phone get bricked again?
when i go to backup with titanium backup,
it says no root access and i followed every step from beginning successfully
what is wrong?
probably because u are temp rooted?

You achieved S-OFF. It ISN'T root. It's REQUIRED FOR ROOT, but it doesn't make your phone rooted.
Now root, flash the recovery of your choice (CWM/4EXT) and flash any custom ROM you want. The guide has all that laid out.

I have searched everywhere and I think this phone is unable to be rooted. I have discovered the UK version of this phone has a locked down bootloader that will not allow me to gain access any way I try. The phone is running Gingerbread 2.3.6, Build No. GRK39F, Kernel Version 2.6.38.6-perf+ and does not have a su.bin on the phone, nor will it allow me access to put one on it. I get permission denied when i try to remount the partition as r/w. When I try to unlock the bootloader, the phone does reboot but not into bootloader mode. This phone only has a hard reset. No other boot modes (just the factory reset). Chmod/chown will not allow me to change permissions. No matter which application I have tried, I am unable to flash anything to the device, since I can not gain root access. The adb root command gives me an error message as well "adbd cannot run as root in production builds." I know I may be a noob, but I have done a ton of research and have not found anything that will help me. Does anyone has any sort of information that will help me root this device? It would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, I have tried every app. The apps I use are pretty much irrelevant though, since there isn't a su binary to request permission from. without the su binary, no app can gain root access.

superoneclick does not work as it requests permission from the su binary, which does not exist. root browser does not work either, as it does not allow me to change permissions or ownership either. chmod and chown in linux don't work either. I get "permission denied" when attempting those commands. I an currently running on v10c, but I can not flash anything, including firmware, to this device either. There's no way to downgrade or upgrade. I get a parameter error when attempting to and then the kdz updater crashes and forces itself closed every time I have tried.
My phone model is LG Optimus L3 E400. I could fix this by change the default.prop file ro.secure=1 to ro.secure=0, but I can't write to that file. It's read-only and I can't figure out a way to change that.
I'm really about to just throw this phone out. I had no clue that some phones can not be rooted and would have no further research before buying this one.
