[Q] UK Lg Optimus L3 E400 Rooting Problem - Optimus L3, L5, L7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have searched everywhere and I think this phone is unable to be rooted. I have discovered the UK version of this phone has a locked down bootloader that will not allow me to gain access any way I try. The phone is running Gingerbread 2.3.6, Build No. GRK39F, Kernel Version 2.6.38.6-perf+ and does not have a su.bin on the phone, nor will it allow me access to put one on it. I get permission denied when i try to remount the partition as r/w. When I try to unlock the bootloader, the phone does reboot but not into bootloader mode. This phone only has a hard reset. No other boot modes (just the factory reset). Chmod/chown will not allow me to change permissions. No matter which application I have tried, I am unable to flash anything to the device, since I can not gain root access. The adb root command gives me an error message as well "adbd cannot run as root in production builds." I know I may be a noob, but I have done a ton of research and have not found anything that will help me. Does anyone has any sort of information that will help me root this device? It would be greatly appreciated!

What programs did you use ?

are you trying to just root or flash custom rom too ?
did you try SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse.zip ?
did you try vroot ? in my signature (guide too)
if you install root browser it will install basic commands on your phone busybox sqlite etc
also check this out it might be your firmware does not support root and you might need to install v10b or v10c kdz

Yes, I have tried every app. The apps I use are pretty much irrelevant though, since there isn't a su binary to request permission from. without the su binary, no app can gain root access.

superoneclick does not work as it requests permission from the su binary, which does not exist. root browser does not work either, as it does not allow me to change permissions or ownership either. chmod and chown in linux don't work either. I get "permission denied" when attempting those commands. I an currently running on v10c, but I can not flash anything, including firmware, to this device either. There's no way to downgrade or upgrade. I get a parameter error when attempting to and then the kdz updater crashes and forces itself closed every time I have tried.
My phone model is LG Optimus L3 E400. I could fix this by change the default.prop file ro.secure=1 to ro.secure=0, but I can't write to that file. It's read-only and I can't figure out a way to change that.
I'm really about to just throw this phone out. I had no clue that some phones can not be rooted and would have no further research before buying this one.

try this

I don't know what vroot did, but it actually worked. you don't know how long I have spent trying to get this done. so many other programs told me that rooting was complete and didn't actually do anything, that when vroot did, I didn't believe it. I thought i was just stuck with a p.o.s. that I couldn't customize. I really appreciate your hep. Thank you so much!

The superuser.apk just doesnt remove when you unroot. Nothing is working as you didnt re-root.
If you want root again, simply root it again and you will be good.
I rerooted it over and over and still didn't w
ork.
Follow the manual rooting process and it will work. I promise.
Same thing happened to me but I had mine re-rooted within 5 minutes.
I NEVER trust those one click apps unless they come from UnrEVOked.
i have try different ways and still didnt work...could someone please help...
Honestly brother, you are giving people nothing to work with. You just say it didn't work. The manual root method will work, so as stated above use that. If you are saying you did use that method, then please describe where it is failing and what things look like. Post the link to the manual method that you have used, there are a few, which did you try, what steps did you follow?
Also, what do you mean it doesn't work/ You said you went into the superuser app and nothing is there. Well, I am confused as nothing is supposed to be there. The app does nothing when you click into it. It only goes into effect when you download and install a program that needs root. (an example is root explorer) When you install that app, it will open up superuser and ask for root permission and you can click to remember, etc and give it access. Explain what you mean by its not working......Unless you have apps that already have supervisor privs
i went to youtube....... when i type in the command ./exploid[/B it say denied.....Ok when i download rooted apps and try to open the apps superuser never come up for i can click allow....none of my rooted app ask for root permission. When i use the one click root process it say my phone have been rooted...
Follow the ROOT instructions in this post and in the links on that post.

You might have to try the . Exploid command a few times before it will prompt you for the password, TRY AGAIN! I had to run that command several times before it showed the password prompt.

OK, I am going to try and help but only if you post what you have done, what you are following, etc. You cant make a blanket statement and expect people to know where you are at.
What files are you using, are you using the root that I linked you too? How are you typing things in? Dont put the "" around the commands like its typed, just type.
Did you in fact set up ADB correctly? When you push in step 2, what happens? When you go to adb shell after that, what happens, when you change directory's to sqlite_stmt_journal in step 4 what happens? etc.
If you want help man, you gotta be specific. This is why you are not getting a lot of replies.

Help Help Help...SOS..Permissions Issues

Hello,
I am having real problems with my phone. I was trying to root the phone and I am stuck. I have S=off on the HBOOT screen, android version 2.2, software version 1.14.531.1.
I am not able to perform Visionary temp root, can't load clockwork recovery, and can't install Busybox. When I try SU within terminal, I get the error "must be suid to work properly".
When I try to install Busybox, I get the error "The application failed either becasue you device is not NAND unlocked or we were unable to remount".
I cant install ClockWork recovery..I get the error "an error occured while trying to run privilidged commands"
I have tried everything which is probably why I am stuck. I tried to force the update to 2.2.1 but won't work. The phone goes thru the motions of updating boot, radio, etc...However, still the same results are its done. THe phone stays on 2.2.
I have tried doing all of the root methods avail: Using Visonary, rage, etc... None of them will work.
Can anybody offer me advice to get root back so I can 1. install a recovery and then install another rom? I need a way to basically put the phone back to factory installed software and start fresh.
Try this worked perfectly for me. also make sure you have ADB installed and working properly before attempting root.

if you want to go back to stock follow the downgrade thread (linked in the thread about forcing the update) then follow the one linked above me here... it's faster than my forcing the update method (once you get radio s-off and the eng boot loader you can actually just flash the update.zip from my thread....)
EDIT: and in the future please post in the proper section or reply in the thread of the guide you're having problems with.
Thank you for trying to quickly help me. I started to follow the instrucions for downgrading and got stuck at the ADB Shell command. Within the Shell, I typed SU and got the following error "must be usid to work properly". Can you please offer any advice to get around this error?
Thanks,
Lance
to be suid you have to have temp or full root access. my sugestion would be to start the process from scratch. have you tried the visionary method?
i cant post the link to the other forum but its readily availible if you google it.
i didnt see the download link in the site i found so if you need the file PM me your email and ill send it back to you
Hello,
Yes, I did try Visonary and will not get SU working. The S=off is already showing. However, no matter what I do, I can't get SU to work. The device appears to be rooted but won't allow any advanced permisson comands to be used such as SU. I have tried re-installing superuser. that didn't help either.
launch the current version of SU you have on your phone and select settings scroll to the bottom of the page and under "superuser Information" you should see "Su binary Vx.x.x-xx) what is the version #?
Click on that and see if it updates the version if it does update try rebooting launch terminal and retry SU
Hello,
I checked the version of SU and did find there is an update. I tried to install and got the followng error 'An error occured and su was not updated. a zip file has been placed on your sdcard. please reboot into recovery and flash it".
The problem is that I can't get into recovery as I get the red exlimation mark. I can't find a way to install a recovery program because of permission issues.
Any further suggestions?
Please post questions in Q&A section.

How in the first place you get the s=off. In order to get s-off you need root! Is also known that to boot into recovery thou need to try several times before its locks! The better way to deal woth it is reading! The root method in the dev section help a lot! Read, read! That's the better way to learn! If you are in eng hboot and s= off there's a possibility that you only need to reboot into recovery several times! Other than that just read with patience!

My advice (without trying to hurt feelings too much) is DON'T ROOT. You obviously don't really know your way around Android too well at this point. I would familiarize yourself with everything before diving in head first.
Despite popular belief, having root does NOT in fact make you cooler.
WAAAY too many new users are trying to root because they think it's cool or heard it's cool. You need to learn your device first.

EDIT: or AIM, or yahoo, msn, or gtalk.... my info is in my profile
If you have S=Off on your phone already, your best bet would be to flash Clockwork recovery through FASTBOOT.
If you are unsure of how to do this, refer to this link from the Cyanogen Wiki:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Fastboot
The page will point you in the right direction for everything that you need.
Have the ROM that you want to install on your SD Card because FASTBOOT will probably not allow you to directly flash all the other partitions, but it will at least allow you to flash recovery, then boot into Clockwork and Install a new ROM.

[Q] Rooting GT540

Hello all,
I'm kind of a newbie, but able to follow step-by-step instructions.
I've tried two different methods of rooting my phone, the password method (android.modaco.com/content/lg-gt540-optimus-gt540-modaco-com/310737/how-to-root-your-lg-gt540) and using Z4 Root. I assumed the first one had worked, but somehow not. When I tried with Z4, it installed Super User and gave me the option to "un-root", but testing it in adb and terminal emulator inevitably ended with a "failed to link su CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE" message. Apps like Titanium Backup won't work either. I tried factory reset, and when I restarted it Super User was still there, but when I opened it, it gave a message saying that there was a new su update. I okayed it to install but it failed and said it was placed on the SD card. Super User instructed me to reboot in recovery mode and install it from there, but I wouldn't know what to do with it.
Anyone know where I went wrong, or have a foolproof method of actually getting my phone rooted? Thanks so much!

You obviously know I don't have this phone =], but read something somewhere about Universal Androot from market. I don't know if you got this on my FB or whatnot. GL
Thanks, but same message:

Titanium backup still cannot acquire privileges. I've tried universal androot now as well.

why don't you upgrade to 2.1 or 2.2
Check whether u have file libbinder.so in ur system/lib folder.
If u don't have
Exatract it from .zip and change the name to libbinder.so then past this folder in system/lib
I am not sure whether it will work or not. it is kind of workaround
Thanks, I ended up unrooting it with z4, doing a factory reset and formatting the sd, and then rerooting with androot and now it works! No idea why it worked this time and not the three or four times before... I guess tenacity pays off. I appreciate the help!!

[Q] ODIN on MF3 baseband and authenticity of root

Hello everyone, I'm a returning (or more so new) user who's been here since the tytn2 days but gone rogue for awhile. Recently I've picked up an s4 through my contract renewal and stepped into a few hickups on rooting. beforehand, i've been on the iphone for a long time and only recently gotten somewhat recognized into the android platform with the note 10.1 before getting the s4 so i'm not completely new to it, but still a noob when it comes to fixing recurring problems when it comes to rooting. Anyways... For the past week i've tried the motochopper method to root my galaxy s4 with unsuccessful results as each time i've tried it the string: "[-] Failure." would occur every time i got it to run.
Methods of rooting:
- Particularly, motochopper was the only method of rooting that i've tried and it did install the superuser apk, however when i'm prompted to install the superuser binary update within the app the following error, "There was an error installing superuser. Please send a log of the error to the developer" always occurs. installing SuperSU and attempting to use it also didn't work as it will prompt me, "There is no binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
Notable things:
- I've updated my phone to the most recent firmware from att as of 4 days ago. I'm aware that this is most likely the cause of my difficulties and i was foolish to not read beforehand about the update blocking root :/.
- My phone is the galaxy s4 version sgh-i337 from AT&T US
- Baseband number is i337UCUAMF3. I'm also aware that this is the version that everyone's having trouble with for those trying to root.
- After the root attempt, i've read up on a few things regarding my issue as well as a couple of posts within the motochopper thread where some people had trouble rooting. After which i figured out that the update blocked root.
- I strongly do not want to factory reset my phone and have to back up everything but, if necessary, then i will.
- So far with the information I've read I couldn't find many clear answers which is why I ended up making this thread.
- Even with the experience that I had with the note 10.1 i'm still fairly new to android, so my apologies if all of this sounds ignorant or.. "newbish".
Problems I've come across:
- Using root checker pro i've compiled the detailed results on the bottom. It should also be noted that i was prompted, "root access not properly configured or was not granted." It will say that superuser was not installed but I can assure that it's on my app drawer.
Code:
Root Access is not properly configured or was not granted.
Super User Applications Status:
Superuser application - is NOT installed.
SuperSU application - version 1.41 - is installed!
System File Properties for Root Access:
Standard Location
Check Command: ls -l /system/bin/su:
Result: /system/bin/su: No such file or directory
Analysis: File /system/bin/su does not exist.
Standard Location
Check Command: ls -l /system/xbin/su:

Alternative Location
Check Command: ls -l /sbin/su:
Result: /sbin/su: Permission denied
Analysis: File system permissions restricted and denied access.
Alternative Location
Check Command: ls -l /system/xbin/sudo:
Result: /system/xbin/sudo: No such file or directory
Analysis: File /system/xbin/sudo does not exist.
Root User ID and Group ID Status:
SU binary not found or not operating properly
System Environment PATH: /sbin /vendor/bin /system/sbin /system/bin /system/xbin
ADB Shell Default User:
ADB shell setting for standard access, stored in default.prop, is configured as: shell (non root) user - ro.secure=1
- For reference, i've also tried an app that required root (GMusicFS) but it tells me "Device is not rooted"
- I read up on the site how to use odin to remove the root but my current baseband doesn't match the baseband of the md5 files supplied as the end letters like MDL do not match with my own which are MF3. My fears are that i'll brick it, especially if it isn't necessary to do so given that my root went unsuccessful.
- Tried using the Updater to see if it tells me that my phone is up to date after attempting the root, but after being stuck on "contacting DM server" for a good 10 minutes and force closing it, it prompted me that the process was interrupted and that the phone was up to date. What worries me is that the updater may or may not be broken after the root attempt
General Questions:
- Is it necessary to unroot my phone given that there is no root present to begin with? or will there be any recurring problems if i don't do so?
- Is the updater to my phone broken because of the root attempt or is it something else?
- Will Odin brick my phone if i use it with the current files and should i wait until an mf3 file shows up if i need to unroot? (my common sense tells me that if i do it will brick it, but i want to get someone else's opinion on it if it's possible)
- Can i remove the superuser app manually and will it be safe if i do it?
- Did the root attempt on motochopper work to a certain point or did it not go through at all?
- When is it expected that we'll see a fix for the mf3 baseband and see a root program for it? I'm aware that it locks the bootloader too and some deeming it impossible at the moment but i'm just curious.
Any help to these questions is very much appreciated and if there's anything that i've missed to which you need more info on i'd be glad to respond.
You cant downgrade...once on mf3 your stuck, odin will instantly fail when trying ti flash if your on mf3. Lastly there is no current root methid for mf3...so you will just have to wait for a new exploit..

You cant downgrade...once on mf3 your stuck, odin will instantly fail when trying ti flash if your on mf3. Lastly there is no current root methid for mf3...so you will just have to wait for a new exploit..

Thank you for replying, i didn't know that about odin. So because of this it also means that nothing got changed except just adding the superuser apk on my phone then, right? Seeing that i can't even use odin and the root doesn't go through on mf3 anyway, i don't need to unroot for any reason or factory reset except if the root went through successfully and i wanted to remove it correct?
Is there still not a way to unroot when youre on mf3?

You should have super su on your phone. There is an unroot feature in it. Many have reported success unrooting with it.

Well, i removed supersu somehow.. i guess i should try this again and then try and use supersu to unroot it.
Why don'y you just read the information already available in this forum. Especially the "pinned" threads in 'General" and "Q & A" sections. Also read the threads with MF3 in the title. ALL of the questions you asked are answered in detail in those threads, plus you will learn a lot more about the phone while reading the threads. Good luck.

I've read quite a lot actually, that's why i made this thread at the time mostly to clear some glaring concerns I had being new to this. Since then though the MF3 update was able to be rooted and most of my questions and concerns were answered. I appreciate the help.

Also notice SuperSU upgraded to 1.60. I noticed you posted an older version which may be incompatible with latest MF3 update. :S
In short motochopper rooting method DOES NOT work with MF3. I know a lot of people are tired of saying that but I'll be the one this time to remind you haha. But it looks like you figured that out and moved on to jortex's rooting method.
Just know there is no way to ODIN it back like on the old MDL update.

well.. for some reason the jortex method did reinstall supersu.. i used motochopper to install the superuser app. im guessing there is no unroot option in that app.. oh well. i will just keep it rooted until they release the fw for mf3..

Are you trying to unroot? Try following this post I made on the other thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45340743&postcount=12

ROOT VZW Moto E 2015 (XT1528) VIA Kingroot on 5.1 (also sticks upon reboot)

Hello everyone,
Today I was able to root the VZW Moto E 2015 with the Kingroot app on 5.1. The Kingroot app said there was a method available and I decided to try it.
Simply install the app on your phone here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=16614
The root sticked for me upon reboot!
**I later found it was a hobbed root. You can't make changes to the system partition but you do have SU capabilities. (like you can run hidden apps and menus or block system apps, not remove them)
I still got root failed

You downloaded the latest one right? Keep trying rebooting the device. That is what I had to do.
After 3rd try it worked !!! thanks OP!
Edit: root lost after reboot
...but is it full root, with full /system read-write access? Some people have been able to get hobbled root via Kingroot on 5.0.2, but /system remained read-only.

Choose a bloatware app that you don't mind losing, such as NFL Mobile. If you "Disabled" it in Settings > Apps, re-enable it.
Install a file manager that has the ability to browse/edit the full filesystem, such as Amaze (https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=com.amaze.filemanager) or Root Explorer (in Play Store).
Open up the app and go into /system/app or /system/priv-app and look for the folder related to NFL Mobile (you'll know it's the right folder if the apk inside of it has the NFL Mobile logo). Delete it. If it deletes, that's a good sign. Reboot and see if the NFL Mobile icon is still in the app drawer, and open up the file manager again and verify that the files you've deleted have stayed deleted.

Wow. Everything fails. Kingroot says I got root and stays upon reboot. Titanium Backup acts like it woks but resets after reboot. Very weird.

Yeah, looks like you have hobbled root. While the su binary is installed, the system partition is still in read-only mode. While you'll be able to use apps that only need root privileges to read files/settings, you won't be able to edit the system itself.
Has anybody got it working? What are some signs of it working (i.e. 2 reboots, no reboot, etc.)?

It is indeed the latest Kingroot
Also tried for 50+ times maybe, sometimes got root sometimes failed---even if got root, always lost root after reboot

If someone gets root again, try to run Sunshine (bootloader unlock). You don't have to pay to see if it'll work.
As a heads up, sunshine fails with an error telling you to contact the sunshine support with your IP address if it continues.
Also, was able to back up the existing boot and recovery using flashify. I flashed the typical recovery used for other surnia devices, but when I tried to boot into recovery, it failed.
It got hung up in fastboot and gave check errors.
It did not keep me from booting back into the rom, so I was able to reflash the original recovery after re-rooting.
Yes, is only temporary root for me on 5.1.
I purchased supersume earlier today with the hopes of ridding myself of kingroot, but it immediately force closes. I trust the kr app about as much as I trust esfile explorer now...

If you have Android 6.0, you do not have the XT1528.
Your device (XT1521 or similar) can be bootloader unlocked and you can install a custom recovery and can flash root.
The device being discussed in this topic (XT1528) cannot be bootloader unlocked.
Hi, I want only simple root I should not want to unlock boot loader and twrp recovery,,, because I don't have pc,, I want to root with phone,,,can you help me regarding this,,,thank you for you response

Not possible. The only known way to have permanent full root is to unlock the bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader is necessary to make /system mount as read-write.
Yes, I understand.can you please send me the procedure to unlock the bootloader.so no body have mentioned correctly in websites and YouTube... So send me the steps to unlock bootloader and root the andriod
