[Q] 2.2 -> 2.3 -> ICS | Rooting impossible - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

I have a problem as I am now in circle of problems.
I need to have a rooted Android to install a clockwork mod.
But I need to have clockwork mod installed so I can install a b518 bootloader
But as clockwork mod installation needs root, I can not install anything.
I have now Official 2.3.5 b526 and I can not download b518 because terrible sharing sites (torrents anyone?), it toke 6 hours to even get the b526 with my nice 10Mibts connection so I don't want to spend next 12 hours trying to get a older version with multiple interrupts and re-downloads with capped speeds.
I have now browsed almost three hours XDA forums about this problem. No one can say directly how to solve thing.
I can return to 2.2 version fine but I don't want. I can root 2.2 fine and install CWM.
With 2.3 I can not root. Not with Z4root, SuperOneClick, Superuser, Superbootloader or any other way. All those say that I have rooted phone and even CWM manager things I have rooted phone but everytime root permissions are needed, everything fails just to errors that permissions are not possible to gain.
I have rooted, unrooted b526 and b136 versions multiple times but never got working root.
So question is very simple.
How to actually get Official 2.3 rooted?

Enabled:
Loggin
USB Debug
Mock locations
Allow all sources
And didn't mount MicroSD or NAND while rooting
Oh and tried even what someone said that they needed to disable WiFi so I even enabled it and disabled it.

new update can't root now.

i run unrevoked and nothing happens. this a new problem with the new update? this is my replacement phone anwaysy so.
anyone know anyways to root? i can't downgrade to old version. please help..
if you have s-off you just need to flash a custom recovery.
if you don't then i have no idea if the updated rom is rootable.
that would have been something to look for before upgrading
Good luck!
Having custom recovery is not the same as rooting (Superuser acess). Unfortunately, at the moment, Unrevoked won't work on the new OTA and if you install SU pack after the OTA it will just hang during boot up and you'll be in reboot hell. You can have Clockwork with the new OTA, just not root access.
downgrading to stock then s-off and upgrading work?
update. i tried downloading the super back to stock thread and the hboot says the file is older and i can't by pass it.. so hmm
I am in the same boat. Just got the phone and the f-ing salesman decided to install the OTA for me while he was setting it up. So do I return this thing in the hopes of getting one without the OTA or is it likely it will be rooted?
guessing no ones able to do anything with the new update to reroot yet huh... any manual way to actually do root or downgrade to where the hboot doesn't recognize it as a older version?

Nope, can't downgrade...I'm out of ideas. Pretty pissed off actually to the point where I'm ready to take it back and get one that doesn't have the god damn OTA applied. I HATE owning devices that I don't really own.
i rooted with unrevoked. it will stay waiting on root or something then you stop kill the program after phone is booted up.
imma be lazy and let you do the work but...
1. use unrevoked (not forever) http://downloads.unrevoked.com/recovery/3.21/reflash_package.exe
2. wait for it to say waiting for root and phone is restarted, then exit unrevoked.
3. place clockwork mod on sd card as pb31img.zip http://downloads.unrevoked.com/forever/recovery/clockworkmod/PB31IMG.ZIP
4. go into recovery(volume down + power button) and let it detect pb31img and let it install
5. then use clockwork mod to install superuser apk manually http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6408470/su-releases/su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip
and yes this works, because i done it to 3 phones already
and yes this isnt hard...think outside of the box
I seem to have a problem. I was following the Bob Denny procedure to apply the OTA. Everything was going good until I got to the second step of booting into HBoot and reapplying the Clockwork recovery again. I cannot get into the Recover option in HBoot, it gets me stuck with the triangle over the phone image. I can boot normally and the phone is working but no root. In addition if I plug the usb cable into the phone, it charges but will not allow me to connect the phone as a disk drive, as well as the USB Debugging option is not there. I went to settings and tried the Connect To PC option but it FCs on me. The OTA part of this was successful (if you want to call it that). Any ideas on how to get this rooted again? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Cary

if you have clockwork mod installed with S-On and updated the ota already, you can flash unrevoked forever through clockwork recovery... that will take S-Off to off. I was messing around earlier and did that..
I am not sure how you got clockwork installed. Everytime I try it recognizes the PB31IMG and then just skips over it. It never asks about installing it.
The file name has to be PB31IMG.ZIP right? Also the LCD works different right?

Would the old downgrade and root process work? I upgraded my stock INC to 2.2 before Unrevoked worked on it. I went through a fairly painless, albeit time-consuming, process of downgrading to 2.1, rooting, and then installing 2.2.
I would think the process could be utilized here, the only difference being specific files used. One may even be able to follow the process as is. The end result would be S-OFF, which would allow you to do whatever you wanted (upgrade to 2.2 + recent OTA, install custom ROM, etc)
If anyone gets this to work, please let everyone know.

tried it out, didn't work. the su trick with rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin does not work.
how to see page 3
Standing by!!!!! Will it work with s-on?
It shouldn't matter s-on or off. I have the SLCD screen don't know if it will make a difference. Just FYI

[Q] After flashing to 3.1, GingerBreak fails to root.

Problem: GingerBreak simply sits and churns forever trying to exploit and root my tablet but never succeeds, I have left it running for almost an hour once.
My notes
1. I started with a stock install of 3.0 on the tablet and rooted with GingerBreak no problem.
2. I tossed the recently leaked 3.1 update.zip onto my SDCard and flashed using the stock methods.
3. Checked if root was maintained through the update, and it was not.
4. Double checked that USB Debugging is enabled, even disabled and re-enabled to make sure.
5. I have a clean SDCard in the tablet and mounted with no issues.
6. I have removed and reinstalled GingerBreak to try and see if that would clear things up.
I have seen a few other posts on threads that people have had no issues using GingerBreak on 3.1 but for the life of me I cannot get it to successfuly root my device.
If it comes down to it, I will just return to stock and go about it another way. But, I thought I would inquire if anyone had any suggestions for the current situation.
Are you tried iconiaroot-1.0.apk special for HC3.1 ?
look for it in developement section
Ah, thankyou for pointing out that thread. This has allowed me to root on 3.1 stock.

[Q] Extremely confused Droid X GB - Need Help

So I've searched around the net, and am not 100% sure what to do. Here is my situation.
I "rooted" my phone awhile ago, or so I thought, but now despite having superuser and trying to do the fix and update for it, it doesn't work, and no app can gain root access, however when I try to run droid easy root, it says i'm already rooted.
I'm running GB with build # 4.5.1_57_DX5-35 (if that helps).
All I want to do is re-root or whatever and install a rom (miUi specifically) over the default gingerbread motoblur one. I'm on a Mac btw and don't know much about this stuff...Any help is appreciated.

use the zergrush (aka doomlord) method posted in my signature, should fix you right up
edit: eww just saw where you said you were on a mac, not sure if this will work for the mac, i know that superoneclick also now uses the zergrush method. perhaps there is a mac version of that.
I'll try it out using VMware fusion and my XP partition...Hopefully it works. Might have some questions on the process if there aren't detailed instructions. Thanks.

[Q] Cant root 2.3.5

Hi
I have upgraded my u8800 from 2.2.1 to the official 2.3.5. Now im trying to root the phone so i can flash a custom ROM. It was rooted before i upgraded it but it seemed to reset after the upgrade. Im trying to use SuperOneClick 2.3.3.0 but after i press root and it says "[+] Killing ADB and restarting as root... enjoy!" and i tryed to reboot the phone still isnt rooted. I installed an app from the marked called root check basic to check if it was rooted but it said it wasnt.
Any help in rooting the phone would be apprecieated(i have no idea if i spelled that right)!
EDIT: Got it working after i installed superuser from the marked before i ran superoneclick.
I cant root either!
SuperOneClick Crashes every time I press Root -.- please any kind of help?
(Ive installed superuser from my phone!)

[Q] Has anyone succeded to update to ICS witjout loosing Root & CMW ?

Hello
I've read from 2 persons that they have lost root & CWM by applying ICS update.
Just want to know if it's possible to keep root & CWM by modifying ICS update script (or ICS is totally different from HC and current root/CWM are not compatible anymore)
Thanks
I could keep root by using voodoo root keeper. CWM is gone after the update. Reinstalling is possible but it will not boot. In the thinkpadtabletforum someone believes it is coming from changes in the bootloader.
I managed to keep root but not CWR. I havent tried reinstalling it yet as I had heard that the new bootloader wont load it.
I got root on V89 used rootkeeper to backup and then temp unroot and did the install. Then just used rootkeeper to reinstate it. Works fine for me.
To all - there is a post on thinkpadtabletforum that explains how some will be fine and some won't. Please heed instructions and info before upgrading.
http://www.thinkpadtabletforums.com...lopment/guide-to-installing-ota-3-(ics-4-03)/
ok, thanks for your replies !
So root don't seems to be a problem, but CWM is no more compatible.
Good to know !
