Hi
My friend has cracked the screen on her uk wildfire, i have replaced screens before so i have offered to have a go. However it appears that there are 2 different types of screens one with a chip (or IC) on the ribbon cable and one without. Does anyone know which one I need to order? the phone is still usable so i dont really want to take it apart just to find out what is already in it.
Also can anyone point me towards any tutorials on taking these apart?
Cheers
Jim
You'll have to take your phone apart to see which one it is just look for a chip on the digitizer ribbon cable if there's one the you need one with ic.
If the lcd is broke you don't need to they are all the same

Excellent thanks for the confirmation and the link

Just cracked my screen today. I went searching on Ebay and saw LCD screens and a digitizer. What parts do I need? either or both?
Phone still works, just can't read anything on the screen. It lights up but its all messed up.
I'm in the US, anyone have a phone for parts?
If you think that you can do it yourself, you will have to order a new LCD component and - just to be on the save side - a digitizer as well. Your best source might be eBay. Other than that, the Hermes really dropped in price, so, if you want to stick with a Hermes, try to get you a new one on eBay and keep your broken one for parts.
NO!!!!!!! You just need the LCD. Make sure it has the digitizer ALREADY on it. Save some $$ and some stuffing around with a possible failure.
In Oz I can get 1 for less than $100. You should be able to get them cheaper depending where you are in the world.
When you get the LCD/digitizer combo then use the Hermes HTC Service manual to pull apart your Hermes and put back together. You'll also need a size 6 torque key, a smll flatblade screwdriver and a small philips head screwdriver.
Take the steps 1 at a time and if you don't understand something then reread until you do.
When you put back together watch out for the camera focus and the battery access latch. If you don't line up the camera focus switch with the swich on the back cover you will have problems and if you put the battery latch on the wrong way you're not gonna be able to get the battery cover off easily.
Cheers...
Thanks for the advice. I'mgoing to try to do this myself and save a few bucks. I checked local repair shops and they want $120 to repair.
I haven't seen any LCD's that mention they have the digitizer with it. Is there a way to tell? Otherwise, I'll see what I can find.

LOL,
So, he needs the digitizer!
Yes Junner2003, but you DON'T buy it separately... That is a MAJOR pain in the neck. Its almost impossible to attach properly.
The LCD should come with the digitizer attached. Ask the seller if it is. If they say "no" then go elsewhere. There's no point in saving a few bucks on an LCD that may not be made to work properly.
Thanks for that tip. I found one with the digitizer so I'm crossing my fingers.
Hi,
I'm new to this site, if I wrote something wrong, please have a mercy .
Ok, my thing is that I have HTC Blackstone and I broke its frontal cover (known as digitizer too ). I ordered this part prom ebay, and today I got it. Nice, new, tools included. But...then I started to dismember the phone, and at the end I discovered that its display is glued or something like that to frontal cover. The question is: How can I change this digitizer? Because with LCD everything is fine, I need to change just this digitizer.
Hope to hear some tips.
Thank you all in advance .
Checked the service manual in the wiki?
I tried, but only thing that I found was some kind of service manual for dismembering the phone up to LCD, but there isn't any info on how to change LCD (and I think that changing digitizer could be similar to changing LCD). I don't believe that HTC didn't include such an option to change LCD or digitizer, especially if digitizer can be bought separately.
Maybe this can help then.

I've not watched it all the way through but hopefully it might help.
big thanks, but this guy in video is stuck in the same situation as me . I'll try to contact my local HTC service center, maybe they'll have some solution .
Sorry then don't know. Good luck.

I very much doubt they'll give you any info on taking the HD apart, they'll surely want you to send it in for repair!?
That said I would love to have a go at replacing the entire outer casing as mine is looking tatty now. Can you send me a link to the ebay seller that you got your parts from and maybe I'll have a go at it myself
EDIT: Perhaps it would be better to get a screen and ditigitzer as one unit? LCD & Digitizer
EDIT: Have you managed to get the screen and digitzer out of the front part of the case, I guess it's then easier to split the screen and digitizer. See this ebay item for pics, perhaps it makes a bit more sense when you look at it Full Housing Kit

My LCD screeb broken yesterday. I have tmobile HTC HD2.But my touchscreen works fine.
Do I need to purchase this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/OEM-HTC-HD2-T858...#ht_2748wt_698
or
http://cgi.ebay.com/T-MOBILE-HTC-HD2...ht_1845wt_1014
Do I need to solder something or is just an easy fix?
Please let me know.
Thanks
Mine too
The links to the Ebay sale you posted are no longer valid.
My screen is broken also, just the touch sensitive glass (digitizer). The LCD is still in tact.
From what I understand the digitizer is harder to replace than the entire screen (digitizer+LCD) because the LCD is glued to the digitizer. There's a video on YouTube someone posted demoing the process.

Has the digitizer for only $57 USD, but you have to order 3 at at time. If we can find someone else that's interested, then maybe we can go in and get one if that's all that you need also.

I have done the digitizer repair, not exactly what I would call a fun time.
Easy to mess up your phone, need to make your own glue or double sided tape (to hold digitizer/lcd/frame together), about 4 little tiny wires that need to be placed correctly when putting the phone back together.
Thankfully the US HD2 does not require soldering the digitizer's connector to the lcd (the european one does), however again this is not a repair job for the feinthearted.
After all was said and done and the digitizer was repaired, the new one had the rainbow/oil effect when under a fluorescent light source, don't know if it is due to me using the wrong digitizer or what, but it did not look good. I had the same issue with a altell touch pro 1 that I purchased on ebay, it annoyed me then and it's back with a vengance.
Have fun, be very meticulous and watch the HD2 dissembler videos about 5 times before you unscrew one screw.
Hi ya maties,
iv picked up a hd2 that turns on but no touch screen nor the buttons on the bottom work,
so i took it apart and first off, noticed that there was sticky tape on the digitizer,
and realized someone has tried to fix this, what my question is, i have included a photo of the back of the LCD screen and the connecter to the digitizer,
am i right in thinking that who ever tried to fix this, irst, didnt know what they were doing, and secondly didnt buy the right LCD / digitizer combo, as i have found out that there are two diff digitizers and lcds? anyways any insight would be great, as this i think is a pretty straight fix,
Cheers
Oliver
I happen to be going thru an lcd/digitizer replacement myself. It looks like the previous owner did in fact get a mismatched lcd digitizer combo. The digitizer in that photo is the European weld on type, and will need to be soldered to a matching lcd. The lcd in that pic is the American version and needs only to make the ribbon connection.
Cheers
hey thanks for that, i thought i was going crazy when i couldnt find out what the clip on the back of the lcd was for, the idiot who tried fixing it used sticky tape to stick it to the back of the lcd in hopes of it working. lol, anyways the other thing is the membrain for the buttons at the bottom are broken, is there a web site that sells the membrian?
cheers
Oliver
Your best bet would be to look on eBay for a broken hd2 for parts
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
i actually have an lcd and digitizer screen that I may let go at a good price..not to mention 2 phones worth of misc parts/mother board, chassis, etc...
let me know
Do you guys know if you can swap in a AU Telstra HD2 (T9193) main board into a US TMO HD2 (T8585) digitizer and shell? My digitizer quit and I want to get up and running asap.
Anyone know?
So i've read through the stickies and havnt come across anything really substantial, tho I have seen a few other user posts about their G2 suddenly losing video.
That's the issue I'm having.
Here's a little history for you:
Customer brought this phone in to me, said it had water damage. Bought it off them to tinker with myself. I opened it up, and sure enough there were some water stains on the flex cable and the back of the LCD. I replaced both with brand new parts, and now the phone boots, but has only a black screen. It receives calls, touchscreen works, makes clicking noises, all that jazz.... just no video
I've pulled all the rf shields off the logic board to take a peek under them, and there is no water damage at all on any part of the logic board that I can see. LCD and flex cable (and midframe) are all brand new, and I'd really like to get it working!
Somehow I dont think HTC will be willing to warranty this for me (tho I have replaced everything that had water damage, so it should be undetectable as there weren't any water stickers in the phone for some reason)
Thanks in advance!
well, after taking a long google walk, I decided to contact the manufacturer of the LCD I bought and try having them replace it for me. hopefully that is the issue and not one of the chips on the main board or some other cable i missed.
If it IS a chip on the board, I'd love for someone to point it out for me so I can try a reflow. Dont wanna reflow the whole board cus it's still got the internal stickers and I dont wanna damage them in case I can finagle a warranty replacement out of HTC
so does anyone have any other ideas what may be behind this issue other than the LCD? I dont want to have to wait to send this LCD back and get a new one, especially if the LCD isnt the problem
I'm not 100% sure about HTC phones as I have not opened one up yet, so i'll speak with my experience with BB phones instead.
When I was in the process of replacing the LCD screen of a BB Storm, there were 2 different types of LCD screen for one device. Perhaps this could be the case? In the BB case, there was a part number followed by either a 001 or 002, neither of which were compatible with each other. My assumption is a driver issue with the main board.
It's a small and simple thing to overlook, especially if you have prior experience in doing things like this, but I thought it would be worth noting. I would compare the old damaged part with the replacement part and make sure the part numbers match up. If the replacement LCD is from China or Hong Kong, I would be weary about their quality.
Regards.
well I got it on ebay, but it was a California seller. as far as I've been able to determine from looking at listings, the LCD's for HTC Desire Z and G2 are identical. All the clips match up right, and all the ribbon cables looked identical to the one I pulled. I'll look into checking on this a little more in-depth tho so thanks for the info!
Hey Bro,
did you managed to fix your phone? I just changed LCD twice, but still the same it boots and all but no video on it... You can even call it, answer everything else works but the screen... Im thinking to change the FLEX RIBBON CABLE, but after reading your thread not sure if thats going to fix my problem. With my original screen I had no backlight on the LCD with the replacement I got backlight on the LCD again...
Any suggestions, ideas welcome!
