Sound Problem - Click General

Hi
I have a problem with my sound and am not sure when or how this occurred. I have no sound at all, not in alarms, not in incoming calls, not in notifications or anywhere. I had the CaynogenMod 7.0.3. I now flashed the CM 7.1.0RC0.
I am not sure how to solve this. Please help.
Is this Hardware or Software related?

I did do a reset. I Formatted the system, Formatted data and did a factory reset and also did a wipe cache.
The problem still remained.
What is the possibility that when I flash the stock rom that my sound will work again? How long is the warranty on this device?

You broke the warranty by rooting. You can unroot your phone but i don't know if that brings back your warranty.

Technically I don’t think that you ever can get a warranty back if you have breached the warranty rules. I also believe that they won’t be able to see that the phone has been rooted if you unroot and flash the stock rom shipped with your phone but I’m not sure. Anyway it’s worth a try if rolling back to stock rom don’t solves the problem, which I’m pretty sure won’t.

i had that problem too, twice, after bumping my phone on the floor. i got it working again but im not sure what solved it. i tried shutting it down and on several times, also removed the back and touching the speaker cover as well as giving it softer bumps again

Thanks for the replies guys. Today my phone decided to "speak" again. This is very weird.
This morning the sound didn't work and 6.5 hours later it worked.
The sound is working in a way. It seems to go to full volume, but in truth I will guess it at about 3/4 of the actual full volume. The lower volume is very soft, with lower than 1/2 the volume is hardly hear able and this is in a quiet environment.
Can't complain, the sound is working at least and can hear incoming phones. Upgrading December so I will sell the Tattoo then.

Sound Problems

I am running the stock ROM from Sprint (WM 6.1). To my knowledge I do not have anything really wacky installed...and have not installed any new programs...but the following problem has developed...
Periodically my sound will jsut stop working. If I turn the phone off and back on, the sound seems to come back (by phone I mean the screen using the power button on a short press -- not actually causing the phone to power off). Sometimes that works and sometimes if doesn;t the first time...
Sometimes the sound will simply come back on it's own.
I have not done a hard reset yet, becuase I do not want to spend another three hours rebuilding my phone....
Any ideas?
Try installing a new radio. Some radios don't work well with ROMs, therefore giving intermittent sound.
(Also, for the sake of making a hard reset easier, use Sashimi to preload your cabs )
First, as a side note, if you spend 3 hours rebuilding your phone, sounds like you don't backup, I highly suggest doing that.
Anyways, there could be a number of reason why the sound is out. Since you say you hve installed nothing, I would guess a hardware issue. I would go pickup a new device.

I have backups....I back up several times a week...but since I do not know what is causing my problem...will restoring the backup help...
I did not say I did not install anything ... I said I did not think I installed anything wacky...and have not installed any new programs for a while...
Hopefully by restoring, it will work properly, then you can narrow down the problem.

Speaker Blown?

I have a CDMA Hero and it's rooted and running aospcm7 gingerbread rom. Before flashing a rom I always wipe data, cache, etc and they always start up fine. Yesterday I was listening to music and it just stopped making noise. Yes, I know you should adjust the min/max cpu speed so it doesn't start skipping. But this time it just stopped making noise completely. Music doesn't play, no volume from videos, ringtones, etc. Don't know if it is a system issue or hardware. Everything else works fine except for that, even the dial tones work. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this or what the problem could be?
Thanks
That's a great question. Have you tried to reinstall the Rom?

Yup, switched to two different roms. But after much research on hero problems, it seems a blown speaker is common? If that is just the deal I'll just bring it to the sprint store to replace. And should I flash back to a stock rom?
Thanks for the quick reply

Yes it is fairly common, and most Sprint repair centers have the part in stock. Takes 15 minutes to replace, and in my case, they did not even have to do a factory reset (lol, not that I cared, as there was no data to wipe!) I RUU'd just before I drove to Sprint and had my laptop with adb in the truck and a nandroid on my sdcard. However, for me, sound did not just stop abruptly, it just rapidly degraded in quality.
In my opinion, rerooting and restoring a nandroid takes just minutes, and eliminates any chance of Sprint denying you service. Also, running the RUU will confirm that the issue is hardware related, if you have any doubt. That's your call though, most people say that Sprint did not care that they were rooted.

When you say that the dial tone works, are you saying with the speaker on the back? Like speaker phone? And does music work with headphones? It is quite common for the speaker in the back to blow. I've heard that since hardware and completely not related to softwate, you don't need to go back to stock rom. Strongly suggest you do though. They may make a note that you have voided your warranty. And that is no bueno.

Thanks for the help and info guys. It was weird because my nephew was listening to music on my phone with headphones, good thing that wasn't broken too, but then it started to play through the speaker for a bit. So I am guessing it is just a hardware problem. And never mind about the dial tones, guess the speaker was fuzzing in and out. But I will go into the Sprint store and let you all know how it goes.
Thanks again
Took it into a Sprint store earlier and everything is fine and working. Didn't have time to flash to a stock rom, but it didn't seem like they minded. They just replaced the speaker and called it to see if it worked. Thanks for the advice guys

[Q] Persisting bug. Voice in call comes out of media speaker and not the ear speaker.

When in a phone call the other persons voice comes out of the speaker on the back of the phone, not the ear speaker like it should. Speaker phone works fine. I've tried everything. Flashed multiple different roms, switched recoveries and kernals. Anyone have an ideas? could this be hardware related?
I've seen this happen on a desire, but a full wipe (w/no settings restored from TB) fixed it.
Yeah I've every wipe possible, several times. still did not do anything.
I'm having the same problem, did you ever find a solution? The phone is currently running the most recent Cyanogen 7.
no still no solution. I've posted multiple threads on different sites. I feel like I've tried absolutely everything.
Sounds like it may be a hardware issue?
yeah it seems that way. I just dont want to believe it because that would mean I was ripped off by swappa.com/the seller because they claimed everything was working perfectly.

has the phone done this the entire duration that you've owned it? or did it work normal, then start doing this randomly? to me it seems like a software issue that a full wipe would solve if possible. if that dont work then yes maybe a hardware issue, though its hard to imagine how that could be possible.
I believe it has been like this since I had it. I had to root it when I got it and I think I noticed it the first call I made. but it may not have been like this although I don't see how anything I did could have caused it. I have done everything possible. every wipe imaginable. various roms, kernels, and recoveries. Even went back to stock unrooted. and the OTA gingerbread update. nothing works.
So you did a fastboot wipe?
I stand corrected. I have not done a fastboot wipe. how do you do one?
I have not because it was a MAJOR pain in the butt to do it on my G1 with a Mac. Seems like the last resort though.
oh I see. well its makes no difference to me. ill try anything. do you know of any good guides? I'm using a PC
I did a quick search but didn't find anything good, when I have more time I'll find something and share it if you haven't already.
This might be helpful...

that had nothing about a fastboot wipe in it however I did find something. I'll let you know how it goes.
I wiped it with Flashboot but it didn't help.
yeah same here. this is extremely irritating. what is htc's policy on it? like the warranty specifics.
Not sure, they just told me to call 1-888-716-3593
oh I see. let me know what they say. cyanogen tweeted that he sent in his unlocked n1 and they replaced it because of a bad power button. so I'd imagine we have hope?

[Q]i9505 periodic no sound and mic problem

Hello,
i've found some threads here with similar problems but they all were a result of wrong baseband used after a custom rom installation.
BUT i bought a i9505 with stock 4.4.2 TW rom UGNG8 (not rooted). At some point i noticed that the phone loses sound and mic completly. Sometimes can take a call but with no sound, neather can the caller hear me, no sound from music/video player and no system sounds eather(not even with headphones plugged in). Everything goes back to normal after a reboot.
I figured it was an outdated baseband so i rooted the device, updated the baseband to the latest (UGNK4) and installed CM12. But the problem is still here. At random times the device loses all sound and only a reboot fixes it
Haven't been able to reproduce the exact moment when it happen as it seem to be completly random (gets really anoying when i need to take an important call and there is no sound )
I could really use some help with this
Cheers,
H.
Rule of thumb: If it happens across multiple roms then it is most probably a hardware issue.
I'd suggest flashing the stock rom back and see if it helps.
Make sure it's the stock rom for the country where the phone was initially bought.
For instance: If the phone was bought from Germany but you're using it in England, it is still a German version of the S4 and therefor needs the German version.

thanks for the reply, i will try the stock firmware, maybe i missed something in the process earlier, and post back the results.
cheers,
H.
Fixed!
ok, after a lot of trial and error i narrowed it down to a hardware issue. The headphone jack was the thing making all the problems. i tried cleaning it but it didnt help, so i removed it. Device works flawless now. Already ordered a new jack. :good:
So to anyone having a similar issue -replacing (or just removing) the headphone jack does the trick.
Cheers,
H.

No sound at all on Nexus 6p

I get no sound on my Nexus 6p. Nothing from the speakers, earpiece, headphone jack, etc. I even get errors attempting to play anything with sound. For music, I get generic streaming errors. If I copy an MP3 that I know works to the phone, I get playback errors. Attempting to play anything on Youtube or any other video with sound, I get errors. When I switch ringtones or notifications, get no errors but no sound. Even connected to a bluetooth speaker, I can't play anything with sound.
I'm currently on a custom rom, but had the same exact problem on the latest 7.1.1 stock rom available from google. Before and after rooting.
Any ideas on what to try or what could cause this?

I would say go back and flash the latest full Google image using flash-all.bat, and then do a factory reset. Until you do this, you will not know for sure if it is a hardware problem. You probably should have done the factory reset first, (while still stock) before flashing the custom ROM.
I did several Factory resets. Before and after root. With the standard factory image. Same issue.

Well If you had spelled that out in your OP, then I wouldn't have suggested it. Yep. Sounds like bad hardware to me.
Any idea what hardware? Pretty sure the phone is out of warranty. Wonder if it's worth trying to crack it open to fix it, but not sure what to fix.

Right, not knowing which part is bad. You could potentially swap the motherboard, and there is a separate daughterboard that houses the USB charging port and microphone... Both changes have been discussed here but are not usually economically viable unless subsidized by some kind of warranty coverage (eg. paying a deductible). Why don't you first check your warranty end date through Huawei. I think they have an online page/method to do that- but I haven't gone looking for it. They may have extended the end date due to other hardware issues with the phone. You can also find the date of manufacture and other info using the "Barcodes" boot option in TWRP. Good luck.

Hey, I went through the same issue with audio. No phone calls, no audio on youtube, etc.
The phone was out of warranty and Huwai was not waking it for RMA, so I tried some custom ROMs.
The after installing Cortex the audio came back and I've been using it for more than 24hs. Hope it will keep working...
Here is the rom name (cannot post links yet) of the ROM, which by the way, looks awesome!:
CortexROM_v15.10_angler_OPR5.170623.007.zip
Good luck!
