Use wipe data/cache (factory reset ) option in CWM . Make sure you install a rom after that
Just do wipe data from cwm recovery and flash the new rom. If im not wrong you only have to flash ext4 patch for an ext4 rom but not the other way around. Tbh i didnt find any major difference between ext3 and ext4.
Thanks Guys i thought as much but wanted to make sure. No i never noticed any major differences between them but i want to flash Honeysense 4.0 when it's uploaded and it's ext3. Gotta love Honeysense!!! Big ups to Samuel!!!!! Just a few more posts then i can post on the dev area's of the forum. Silly rule!
Haha me too. Got what i think is a bug in tb fusion rom so trying to get my posts up so i can post it in the dev forum. Might give honeysense a go actually while the bug gets fixed.
Honeysense is quite good
but im waiting for the EXT4 version now.. please come out tonight
Yeah the ext4 version should be cool the new rosie is excellent and mattes new swype keyboard he is developing looks to be his best work yet!
Sent from my DHD on Honeysense through the XDA App! Take it easy!
Honeysense HD EXT 4 come out already
A question from me, so if coming from ext 4 you just do a full wipe in CWM (system, data, cache and then factory reset) then install the ext 3 ROM.
But what if your on ext 3 and want to try a ext 4 ROM what is the procedure ?

If u want to go to ext4 rom, u run first full wipe ext4 1.5 and then the rom.U will find full wipe zip in every ext4 rom in addons.

And since there is a thread already, here is my question...
What is ext3 and ext4 ?
What it does?
yeah i'm also curious to know the difference..
After searching google I finally found something!
ext4 - Wikipedia
ext3 - Wikipedia
ext2 - Wikipedia
Is different ways to partition the SD Card but what are the differences exactly and what are the pros or cons for our phone I have no idea, at least not yet

This is not true! This is not concern SD card.
If you use EXT 4 in your phone, for example using rom ARHD 5.1.11 which is build on EXT 4 , your device will work much better, and SD card stay untouch.
So does the ext4 format speed up the usage or not? AND is it noticeable or not?
Because in nearly every update for roms they write speed improvements, but I don't really notice them.

I think the speed improvements are quite minimal but noticeable, after formating everything to ext4, i noticed a smoother handling.
So why not trying out and test a little bit? It works, dont worry The newest LordMOD UE Kernel for example has many ext4 patches inclusive.
Sry for my bad english =)
Forgot to say: I use CM #108 with LordMOD UE 4.5.1 Kernel and newest Radio, works like a charm
+1 for this thread answered all my ext4 questions in one place

I have heard that the new cm7 is faster because it uses ext4 for the system. And I was wondering if it was possible to do the same thing with cm6? And I am not sure how it is able to do this in the first place. I get that I can format my sdcard as ext4 and make it faster..... but how can a rom I flash format my system partition to a different file system? And how can I add this to my cm6 build until cm7 has all the features I am hooked on?
I know this is a noob question.... but that's why I am posting in the general section.... lol
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Cm7 has all the features and more that cm6 had. Just upgrade.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
I would love to.... But unfortunately it doesn't. I am still waiting for the ability to set up each screen rotation setting individually like in cm6. Right now you can't enable 180 degree rotation without enabling all 3 directions of screen rotation. Or you can disable screen rotation all together.... those are the only options. And widgets take to long to redraw when 90 and 270 degree rotation is enabled. Especially since it usually happens when I didn't want it to... or it stops first at 90 then goes to 180....
So they are not All there.... but also I was just trying to understand how the system format to ext4 works.
I have also tried to ask how I could go about adding that rotation features in my self but I can't get anyone to point me in the right direction on that either......
So, can anyone help?

Ah I see... however ill just say that I don't think cyanogen is planning to add these features back in.

That would really be too bad.. I see know reason not to add them back. But that leads me back to my original two questions.
1) can some one explain how the system is formated to ext3/ext4 during a rom flash. And how I might be able to implement this in a modified version of CM6.
2) Since I don't want to bug CM with requests for features and ETA's.. Can some one point me to some info on how to port features from one rom to another? I have searched and found a lot of info but I could use some help narrowing it down to what I actually need for my purposes. Thanks for your help
Wouldn't the ext upgrade be in recovery?? Because when using Amon RA recovery with other phones, not ours as he doesn't make a recovery for us vision.. you had the option to upgrade from ext2 ext3 ext4. And I think before the latest clockwork was release, we had to use 3.x to flash gingerbread as it only supported ext4. And 2.5.x was only ext3 right?? I don't know if I'm making sense or in the right track..

Those options are are referring to the file system format of the sd-ext partition if you have one. CM7 apperently formats the actual system to ext4 now... or otherwise called mmcblk1p25.... I think....
hey guys I'm new in android porting and I need some infos.how can I check wich partition layout should i use in my roms??
That depends how much you want it to be. There are ROMs like Rafpigna's that fit 100% in NAND and use EXT to mout /data there. But Imilka's ROMs use EXT to store system files and whole Sense 2.1 fits in only 150m /system partition. It's your decision.
You are really sure you can handle ROM porting?

Hi,
The partition layout is always clearly stated in the [OP].
If this is your first attempt at porting a NAND ROM,read this first:

Try this Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061912
Bonsai has a file that can be flashed prior to the main rom which can enable journaling. Why do you want a RFS rom? It's been deprecated in the newer phone builds and is a whole lot slower. However, if you dig back in the development forum about 6 months you can find RFS compatible roms, but IIRC no one will support them.

Try stock plus, it's awesome!
Just go to EXT4, its not a big deal.

It really isn't all that much work, everything is pretty much done for you. It's just a matter of following like 3 steps. The performance boost in converting is far worth it too.

1.Download EXT4 Rom to your SD card.
2. Install one-click-root 3.0.0.6
3.Boot into clockwork
4.When it is done converting to EXT4, Flash the ext4 rom.
Good to go.
I understand where you are coming from. I was the same way, worried about everything, but after a while, you realize that worrying was silly, and there isn't much to worry about. This community makes it very easy for its users
What are some of the roms in the mytouch 4g thread that support appstoext4, currently using a zip file that supports apps2sd (thanks to that dev) but i do prefer using the ext partition. I also prefer aosp to sense, but if there are some sense roms that support apps2ext i will def check them out. Thanks for looking @ my thread and any information is welcome
Why would you need the ext partition in MT4G? ~1GB of internal RAM isn't good enough?
And if you're talking about reformatting /data with EXT4, why is it of any concern?
No, 1gb of ram is not enough for everyone especially me. I have tons of apps/games i install to my phone and the only way i can do this atm is with apps2sd which is decent, but having them installed to an ext4 partition makes them run faster then if they were on sdcard. It's ok i understand why you would think 1gb of ram is enough.
If you're installing the downloaded part of the game on the internal memory (it's not RAM, my mistake - it's probably best to refer to as just internal memory), I can understand why.
In any case, the solution might be to use A2SD by DarkTremor on any ROM that you like, which you're probably doing already. I don't think many ROMs bother to support A2SD initially, since the demand for it is very small.
Ya, using dark tremors flashable zip for the moment until i can either find a rom that supports apps2ext(4) or someone educates me on which rom does support it lol Either way problem is very temporary anyways since my upgradeis in August...tho i may just wait till the Hercules or Nexus 3 come out since my last phone was a g1. This MT4G i got from craigslist with a sweet deal and blows away the g1 haha
Xylo as well as mods have requested a separate thread for the discussion of a2sd for AOKP since it is not related particularly to the Rom. I saw many people asking the same questions as I have been wondering myself. So I decided to open a thread so we can share our experiences and also get the information in one place. I am wanting to know how to do this as well and as I gather info I will post it here and all others are welcome to contribute as well. Please let's respect the dev and not post in his thread

I just used App2SD of Android assistant app just now & it moved the whole 26mb of Temple Run to SD running in AOKP B40 but i'm not sure about the rest of the apps if it can do the same since I just flashed it last night leaving me with just 255mb of space

now using Link2SD more versatile!

Yeah for me its working flawless. I just left the cache on nand, with cache on sd-ext, the android market has fc's.
I changed to this script from amarullz rc01, it was a bit buggy in combination with aopk b40, got a lot of stucks and sometimes reboots, which one was followed by another reboot, with the message that a new sim was recognized.
my settings are:
apps / enable
dalvik /disable
swap /enable
cache /disable
But it's only running for a few hours. I will reply in a few days with more information about bugs or no bugs

so after some days of work with the mount2sd script i have to say everything work absolutly perfect. I found a solution how to apply cache on sd-ext. You have to enable "/m2sd dl-cache" . if i did understand everything right, then will that only move the downloaded app cache onto sd-ext partition. I changed some settings. So now my settings are:
m2sd dalvik enable
m2sd dl-cache enable
m2sd apps
m2sd swap
i think thats it. The only thing is, if u install many apps at one time or one big e.g any big game . U have to reboot the phone that the script can move all on ext partition. Just in case that u will run out of internal memory. After reboot all things are moved and u got the "normal" hd2 internal capacity. (Damn EU hd2 version^^ )
