[Q] 4G in San Diego - Atrix 4G General

So according to AT&T's site map, San Diego should have 4G now. It wasn't on the map last month. Has anyone gotten 4g speeds yet with the Atrix?

last I was there for mother's day, i got about 4 Mb down and 1.2 Mb up.

I've gotten as high as 6.5 MB download and 1.25 upload when I downloaded the last update (1.83). I don't know if that's from the 1.83 update or 4G.

I'm some places it shows HSPA+ and I get 6-7 mbps down / 1.2 up, on average I get 3g/hspa speeds of 2-3 mbps down and fairly consistent 1.2 up

Yes. Don't expect too much from 4G in SD. I get 1.2 mbps up and between 2-4 mbps down, dependent on time of the day and location. It shows hspa in the settings but it toggles between umts and hspa quite often.

Speedtest results - 4g

I'm curious to see how fast the 4g networks across the country are.
There is a good Speedtest.net app in the marketplace that's free to use for this.
Please post your results along with your location so we can compare.
Speedtest results: 8461kbps down, 1080kbps up
Location: Bannockburn, IL
I wasn't expecting that high of download speeds! I had 2/3 bars of 4g.
edit: Just tested wifi tethering with these speeds, and i got 1.14mbps down, .96mbps up w/ 96ms ping.
This wasn't my fastest but it's apparently the only one I got a screenshot of. I was in Atlanta last weekend.
Also some of those tests were 3G to show my friends. The top one I know for sure is 4G.

The upload is obviously capped for 4G as well.
Yeah, I got max of 7.4 down today (same capped upload). I was in the car with my girlfriend driving up US1 between Oakland Park and Commercial in Ft. Lauderdale. So weird that the only place that has 4G there (goes a bit north of where I said) is just that small patch, maybe 2-3 towers max. I finally got a taste of 4G since I have none where I live and its very nice.

but we know 4g is capped to 1mb. thats a known issue and frankly not a big deal for me, my home dsl is like that as well. I'm in deerfield beach, maybe I'll drive down there this afternoon and test it out. supposedly according to 4g mapviewer there is 4g on 595 at the university drive exit. that is where I work but i tried it 3 days in a row and no 4g.
i just tried it on us1 on commercial blvd. some speeds in the 2mb and 3mb range and a number in the 5 and 6 mb range. highest I think was 6.4. I was disappointed I couldn't break 7, but still that was pretty good. 1meg upload cap as expected but thats sprint capping. I read they might uncap that eventually.

Yeah, I know of the 1mb upload cap... it can go much higher. I don't care too much. I don't like that the 3g speeds are capped. They are no where near what I get on my hero. It does everything faster, including loading pages on 3g so its not a biggie unless I want to download a file from dropbox.

Just picked up an epic today, while i like the phone, i gotta say im dissapointed in sprints 3g and 4g speeds.
Here in Kansas city on my epic i get an avg of 1mbs up on 3g and an avg of 3.5mbs on 4g.
On my HD2 running 2.2 And Nexus One i get an avg of 4.5mbs. Seen it as high as 5.5mbs on Tmobile.

Noticeable 4g speed improvement in Columbus, OH area.

A month ago, the fasted I could download a file was roughly 750 kb/s. Today, I his 1.2MB and stayed there for a little bit. That's almost a 500kb/s increase.
We've had 2 PRL updates since I last tried and the rumor that Sprint has been beefing up its 4g network.
I can notice it, anyone else?
i usually get 5-8mbps since it first started showing up
I can definitely agree!
PRL updates have NOTHING to do with speeds ON the sprint network. They only tell the phone what towers to roam on when roaming, thats it.
As far as 4g speeds in Columbus, the last 3 times I was there for work, I could easily pull in 6mbps down, and about 3mbps up. Although the signal strength was very spotty though.
What's your 3g speeds like if your 4g is that slow? I average 1.2 on my 3g

upload download speeds

I was looking for a thread to see what kind of speeds people are getting on 3g, 4g, and wifi. I could not find one for the epic (also I wanted to see with ec05). I will downlod speedtest tomorrow so please post your speeds. Thanks
At home, 3G usually pulls about 1800-2000 kbps Download and 760 average upload.
On WiFi, I get between 6,000 kbps to 15,000 kbps (depending on server.)
On 4G, I mostly get 1200 mbps (yes, very slow), but in certain areas, I can get up to 8000 kbps and upload is maxed out @ 1000 kbps on 4G.
EDIT: When I get my phone, I'll grab you some screenshots.
I am near Chicago.
I took an average of a few readings.

I am just wondering if these speeds are good for the new modem. I feel like they are slower then they where before, but maybe others are having better overall numbers with this modem.
Top few are 4g, all the ones under 1mbps are 3g. 3g is absolutely terrible in my area

Lol that's like my home internet speed, where are you located that you are getting such insane speeds on 4G? I get sketchy 4G here in Northern NJ.
I live in Yakima, WA and on 3G I get 500-750kbps down and 250-500 kbps up, depending on signal strength. On 4G I get anywhere from 2 mbps to 6 mbps down and 500 kbps up, again depending on signal strength. On Wifi I get what my home internet is, 18 mbps down and 2 mbps up.

I'm in Anaheim Hills, and connect to the LA server as well. If I'm up in Brea on 4G, it's up in the 8-9mbps range. I think I'm on the outer area of the tower's reach. Voice still works, which is all I care about when I'm at home.
I had been getting 3g speeds anywhere from 1200 down and 400 up but the last few days I gave gone down to 200 down and 100 up on average using speedtest. In Memphis tn. Using slingplayer however it s streams great so I am thinking speed test is screwy. If I can stream video at hd quality it can't be that low

I don't understand why the upload is remeniscent of the old days! (running Syndicate Frozen EC05, on Twilight/Vision kernels)
At my house I get about
16mbps wifi down, 1.5mbps wifi up
8mbps 4G down, 4.5mbps 4gup
never tested 3g >_>
I posted on the second post that I'd update w/ screenies. Here it goes.
First screenie is on 3G @ my house.
Second screenie is my Comcast ISP via WiFi.
I don't have 4G at my house, so I cannot test it there.

Did you get stock EC05 first from OTA? I get 500 upload now that I did. Odin'ing the EC05 modem is apparently not the same. I was only getting 100 up before.
Do you BONSAI?
WOW. my phone is crazy slow.
i usually get 200 download on 3g and 500 download on 4g. i'm in silicon valley. my 4g can hit 8k, but my 4g connection stability is poor.
maybe i need a modem and rom reflash?

Nope, I've got MidNIGHT rom v5.2 and it's by far the most stable. You can try to reflash the ROM, but I think it's just that 4G signal in your area is poor.
I use WIFI when I'm at home and 3g at work (no 4g in my area). I'm usually averaging 400 to 600 (on a great day) of download speed. I've only used 4G once and that was while I was in Oakland for a baseball game and that topped out at 3.00.

This is inside my house. Which I can't even send a text with where I am right now. I have to use roam control in my house. Go outside and on the west side, get about the same speeds. Walk out to the street, maybe 30 yards(very rural/suburb/country area) 3g goes way up. I can start grabbing 4g but not reliable. But also just standing without moving my phone will constantly go up and down from full service to no bars.
A week or so ago I was at a friends apartment. He has the Evo. We both tested the 4g and he was over 10m while I was around 7m. And my 4g would drop as I was using the web, but his held it strong.
I've just given up on 4g. Most the time I want it I probably have wifi, and the other times the 3g is fast enough to load whatever while I'm still waiting for the 4g to get out of bed.
If I remember I'll try to grab some more tomorrow.
edit: fwiw I am running srf w/genocide kernel 200-1120 w/no uv'ing
With Airave 3G I get 1500 up and 650 down. I OTA'd the EC05. It was a LOT slower when I Odin'd the EC05 modem.

Tmobile USA hsdpa signal

so before i updated to a new radio (12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03)
i ran speedtest and i was getting about 0.44Mbps
after the new radio update now im getting 0.37Mbps on HSDPA :/ how can i increase the crappy speed? I understand some 4g coverage isnt that good in the u.s but to get speeds that low on hsdpa.. theres gotta be something wrong
Yeah, that shouldn't be right. I can consistently pull 5-8mbps with an hspa signal, did you do the efs wipe after flashing the new radio and clear dalvik cache?

Are you sure that you're not being throttled for going over your data cap? Those speeds are super low. Like the other reply I regularly pull 8mbps down and 3mbps up.
Sounds like your over your cap. No other reason that should be happening unless you have no bars and are in a basement.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
No, that's not throttled speeds. I was throttled and consistently got around 0.07 Mbps down and up.
I can see these 8 Mbps down speeds being plausible if you live in a metropolitan area, but if you live out in the middle of nowhere like me, the best download speed I have gotten is around 3 Mbps, but typically around 1.3-1.5 Mbps.

I see my best speeds in the suburbs, with fewer users. My slower speeds happen in places like Seattle with tons of people on the network obviously. I believe just a generally slow area giving 1.5mbps ish, but there's something wrong when he's getting only 0.40mbps
I am now testing in the suburbs as I'm visiting home from college.
Also keep in mind signal also plays a large role. I was just downstairs where my signal was -103 dBm, and my download speed was about 1.8 Mbps. Just went upstairs, signal was about -89 dBm and download speed was about 4.0 Mbps (measured twice at each location). Interestingly, both were with UTMS connections.
Wow, -103! The phone has no connection at -113! Eek.
You've found your problem.

That's not even OP... you're referring to the post above yours? He's aware of the lack of signal, which is why he's quoting it and saying that even at -103 he gets 1.8mbps.

Slow hspa speeds on T-Mobile?

I got around 12 Mbps with my old s3 at work and I did a speed test with my n4 same spot and can only get maybe 6 Mbps what gives I thought this phone had the 42 Mbps radio??

it can be many different factors:
- location
- case/grip
- kernel
- baseband

Check about phone > status and make sure you are getting an hspa+ connection. Check it when the mobile network is active and data is transmitting because it will drop down to regular hspa while idle. Also, in order to get DC-HSPA (which is required for 42mbps) it has to be available in your area. Not a lot of markets have it yet.
I get anywhere from 15-22 Mbps here in NY and that's with the $30 plan.

I'm getting between 5Mbps to 10Mbps speeds with my Nexus 4 in Phoenix AZ.
Which is an improvement from my Galaxy Nexus that got 1Mbps to 3Mbps (yeah, that was HSPA+).
I'm on T-Mobile here in NYC and just received 19.5mb down and 1.6mb up.

I am getting hspa+:15 in the settings with speed test running in the background. What does that mean? 42mbps? Speed tests 6-7mbps at best with 1sec latency! Latency is worse than what I had on hspa 14 on the Samsung exhibit ii.
I am in Philadelphia. I thought we got hspa+ 42 a long while ago here. Although the network seems to always be congested here, often coming to a complete halt, forcing me to go to edge to send and receive emails.
[EDIT]: I think I was wrong on HSPA+ 42 being available in Philadelphia. We're still on 21. According to an article on android central we will get HSPA+ 42 on the 1900Mhz band here instead of 1700Mhz AWS. HSPA+ category 15, which is what the reading in the settings are showing, refers to HSPA+ 21 ... so no DC-HSPA here ... I hope the upgrades come soon, and take care of the congestion issues around the busy parts of the city during the day. It's stupid to have a smart phone that cannot even send an receive emails !
Here in Charlottesville, VA (where HSPA+ 42 is supposedly available), I am getting less than 512 kbps down with over 1000 ms ping. This was in an area that indicated HSPA+:15.
Did I get a phone with a bad radio? Or just a location thing?
This is consectutive tests on different servers further and further away (started with closest last is in south Dakota - pings suck but speeds are great)

I've never seen 3G pop up on my Nexus 4. Strange. Either way, I guess my terribly slow speeds are a result of being in Central VA.
it is to save battery life it sits on idle afaik on 3g until you call up 4g - there is a post on it on the qa forums.
