[Q] Keyboard Dock latch position - Eee Pad Transformer General

I just got my keyboard dock (finally!) and just started to use it.
When docked, the position of the latch in mine is in the middle, and I can push it to the left to unlock/undock it.
Is this normal, or the position supposed to be all the way in the right when docked?
I tried to push it all the way to the right but I could not.
I also noticed when I simply dock the tablet, it does not go all the way to the bay, there is a bit gap. When its closed (like a laptop lid), the tablet is a bit out (not alliged perfectly to the keyboard). I can push it down though, but it does not happen by itself when docked. I hope that's the case with you all.
I like it so far! Very fast typing!
Just too bad no battery indicator for the keyboard dock (but hope that will change in the next firmware upgrade, I saw it somewhere already the demo with the keyboard dock battery indicator).

Don't be afraid to push it all the way in until it's all the way to the right.
Another way to be sure if it's all the way in, is to close the tablet and see if it's flush with the dock.

just wiggle the tablet back and forth while putting some pressure on it til it clicks all the way. the latch is just finnicky

After using my keybord dock for 2 weeks, I still have hard time docking it.
Everytime I dock it, the latch never goes to the right all the way, it always stays in the middle (see attached pic).
Do you guys have the same issue?
If I tried to push the latch, sometimes I can move it the right, sometimes I cannot.
I believe its supposed to click by itself just like that, when we dock the tablet.
And with the latch position in the middle, actually if I pull the tablet, it will come out, without the need to unlatch it (moving the latch to the left side).
Is mine defected?

Yes mine is same way, always has been, I have to first push it down straight to get it to go halfway, then I sorta push down on the right side a bit more sometimes push the left some more and it then goes all the way to the right. Kinda sux but doesn't worry me.

Mine definitely seems easier after the first time, but will still do the same thing. I'll get the lock to slide to the right half way and then have to sort of wiggle it a bit (pressing down harder on the left and then the right) until it slides all the way to the right. Then it is definitely locked in there good.

Same here

Same here, mine won't go beyond the middle position when the tablet is docked (and yes, it is definitely pushed in all the way).
Obvious, but a tip nonetheless. Hold the switch at the left (open) position while docking, and the tablet slides in far more easily.

I use to have this issue too but I wasnt affraid to push on mine. Put that bad boy on a hard table and push that sucker down till it latches all the way over. After about 4 days of doing this it got better.

Put your palm in the middle of he bottom of the keyboard. Then with your other hand on the top middle of the screen push till it clicks.
If you leave it halfway the keyboard will connect and disconnect often.

I just received my dock (Finally!!!) and I DO NOT have have the same issues as you guys have. I just push it and it clicks in nicely! maybe because I got the 2nd or 3rd batch of hardware? dunno!
Also make sure the latch is all the way to the LEFT before trying to dock the tablet. I noticed the latch can be moved left to right, activating and deactivating the locking mechanism. (I was playing around with it 'undocked' to see how it works)
oh and everything should line up perfectly when docked. if not, 'you are doing it wrong'

Remove battery cover

How in the world are you supposed to reliably remove the battery cover on the Imagio? On the first one we purchased at our company we struggled for 5 minutes with the manual and accidentally got it to open. Now I have my second and have been working on it for over 40 minutes and can't get the stupid thing to come off. After 5 years of working on mobile phones, I'm being bested by a battery [email protected]?!
In shear frustration, right after posting this I pushed up on the cover while prying it backwards and got one corner to pop off. I'm in now, but still curious what other people's tricks are to get it off reliably.
I'm using the end of the stylus to pop open the back of the phone. If you use the wide end it seems to pop open pretty easy, once it pops you can then take your fingernail and slide around the back of the phone to remove the cover.
I don't know what it is either... sometimes I get it right away and other times I end up yelling obscenities for about 10 minutes.
I've used a penny to open it (insert and twist), but it dings the plastic if you're not careful.
I had to exchange my Imagio, too. The cover on the first one was just getting worn down to the point where I could open it fairly easy, and now I have to start that process all over again...
I usually don't like to use ActiveSync, but I would rather deal with that than try to get that damned cover off.

the small prong on a 110v plug works great for me and doesn't scratch the device.

x2 That's what I've been doing.
Yes I tried it and it works better than anything else but still not easy to get off I am always afraid I will break it
Mine is so easy to remove, I wonder if you guys are even talking about the same phone "Imagio???", I use my finger to pop one way and another to push the other...easy enough.
Hopefully you guys have a screen cleaning cloth, one of the small ones for cleaning your monitors or other device screens.
What I do is put that over the area where the slit is....then I use a Dime and insert it into the slot. I then rotate it until I here the snap which represents the back separating....at that point I can insert my fingernails and pry it off.
This wont damage the back and makes it easy to pry off. Hope it helps.

Do don't be fooled, it is a ***** do get this damn cover off, although I will not complain because it makes it feel like a one piece device, sturdier and tougher.
Once you've popped it off a couple times it loosens up. I don't have any difficulty now opening it, I just give it a little pull on the notch and the top right corner pops out.. from there I can get under it and open the rest of it up. I don't open mine very often but my real worry is that i'll wear down to the point where it won't stay closed.
hold the phone with one hand facing your palm, with the other put your palm on the middle of the back and use your pointer finger tip/nail in the slot to pull it open. I tried this the first time and have never had a problem opening it with ease since.
Remove the battery cover is the hardest part of the phone. In fact, this is my biggest problem w/ the phone.
I'm currently using my right thumb finger nail. Slide it in near the volume and it's open. Worst case scenario, the back cover is available at VZ online store for $15 or so.
I have used some of the tips to get the cover off a little easier but this is the most difficult cover I have ever seen to get off.Thx for the cover tip

This is exactly what I do with my phone. I've tried a lot of software so sometimes the phone hang up and I have to do a soft reset. Up to now, I've opened the back cover about 30 times and now it's much easier for me to open. You should practice several times then used to it!
You don't have to take the cover off to soft reset the Imagio. You can download Singh's Tings-Soft Reset v1.00.cab and you can just push a button in the Start Menu to soft reset the phone. Or, you use the power off button to soft reset the phone. You power off the phone, then push the power off button and the phone restarts.
Simple.
Take your Stylus out and , place the tip back in stylus hole and pop the case open, works great. With your fingernail slide it around the case and it will come right off
Why are you taking the back off so often? With a soft reset app I haven't taken the back off in weeks. In the PPC forum a guy posted his fix - he drilled a tiny hole right over the soft reset button so he could reach his stylus in there without popping the cover off. Crafty!
Put your palm halfway down the back of the Imagio and then use the top of your fingers to pull out the top. While pulling press your palm into the back gently. Works perfectly.
I gotta say, I have terrible manual dexterity and I can manage to get the cover off without too much trouble. Maybe it's harder on some of these phones than others.

Cant text right with keyboard open? Jumps around.

Recently (starting hours ago) When i try to text and use the physical keyboard it jumps around. It may scroll up the message or go over to send or things like that. I have taken my screen protector off (great, now i buy another one) and wiped it all down but it still does it.
I also reset it a few times.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I am getting the same thing. I think something is conducting on the capacitive screen as when I set the phone down or don't touch it at all, this never happens.
So should i exchange it?
I don't know. Like I said mine seems to do the same thing. I am not sure if it requires exchanging or if my fingers are brushing the side in a way they shouldn't. I'm open for suggestions myself
Hmm no mine just jumps up the text page like it scrolls the chat message up even if nothing is touching the screen.
Same thing here. Used to happen with my old myTouch but it was after a couple months of use. Uncool for it to happen on the G2 just after the 14 days have passed.
It is probably the capacitive pad thats not working right. Its probably detecting heat and scrolling on its own.
Yes get a replacement.
It's the touchpad. Move to a room with different lighting and try again.
I second the touchpad. It messes me up in the terminal by sending special characters.

I did notice it was the light now. Still does it sometimes tho.
Thanks. What do you guys mean by captive ? Heat ?
Mine does this randomly too, and I've also concluded it's the trackpad. One time I went to my home screen while it was doing it and I could watch the selection scrolling from left to right.
Haven't figured out how to fix it, usually if I lock then unlock the phone it works fine.
Mine just started doing this today. I was sitting under the A/C and i noticed whenever i would try to swype during SMS text messaging, it would highlight "Send" in orange or it would highlight and scroll up the text thread. After I moved away from the A/C, it stopped doing this. my trackpad has been fine and I have never had any issues prior to this or even after moving away from the A/C vent.
This trackpad works on heat I would guess or like others have said, possibly electrical ground current which is probably by a grid I would imagine.
Thats kinda bad for you guys. I havent had this problem at all but seems like a trackpad problem. This happen to me on my g1 onces and that was a dirty trackball

Will magnets mess up the phone? Making car dock

I just ripped some magnets out of an old hard drive and want to use them to make a car dock from a DIY I saw (http://forum.androidcentral.com/evo...completely-invisible-phone-vehicle-mount.html)
I am worried about putting a magnet on phone as it always been common sense that magnets + electronics = broken ****. Though, isn't it magnets in the commercial car docks that trigger car mode to pop up on the phone?
small magnets will not hurt - many phones have magnets as sensors - the blackberry determines holstered or not via a magnet in the holster. Other Moto phones determined if they are docked or not via magnets in the dock.
But, any magnet strong enough to keep the phone from bouncing loose could cause interference issues. I don't think you can do any permanent damage, but if things start acting wonky, it may be the magnet.
ok I ran a magnet over, stuck on a few points but car mode never came up. Know the right location/method?
be very careful of the speakers. I have a friend who tried to do the same thing and his speaker sounded really bad after that

As far as I've read, magnets trigger no dock on the Atrix.
It's thought to be resistances on the USB connectors that trigger different docks to come up.
Worst case scenario is that you create a shortcut on one of your homescreens that manually opens the car dock interface, which is extremely easy to do.
Speaker is ok. Plus I still have warranty and what not, thought id actually take some kind of risk considering all the hard work devs do.
So, FOR ME, rubbing the magnet over the back of the phone did not cause any noticeable harm yet. The magnet would center about an inch above the speakerphone speaker in the center.

I don't have my phone on me at the moment (managed to forget it along with some other stuff as I left my house for class this morning).
I think its something like (this is with Launcher Pro):
Long press home
Create custom shortcut
Activities
Select Car Dock -> Cardock.main.cardockmainactivity
Name shortcut
If that doesn't work, I'll try it when I get home tonight.

Yup that works great. Thanks! Now to figure out how it turns on when put in a dock.
Wait so for the mount to work, you would have to setup the charger? that blows, the magnet turning on the phone is better.

I meant figure out how putting the phone in the car dock makes the phone turn on. I understood pushing the button would start dock mode
The old flip phones (StarTac) would typically use a magnet to sense if they were open/closed. AFAIK there's nothing in the new phones that understands magnetism at all, much less is harmed by it.
The microUSB standard provides for "sensing" by means of placing a fixed resistance across the new fifth wire. Devices see a set resistance, look it up internally, and determine what device has been attached. I suspect Moto is using this sensing to signal what dock a phone is plugged into--all part of a standard.
FWIW, cell phones going back at least to the original Palm Treos have done something similar, they look at the impedance of whatever is plugged into the ear/mic socket, and then configure themselves for earbuds, mono ear/mic, and other different devices all plugged into the same socket. This is mature and invisible technology by now.

[Q] Transformer TF101 Docking Station Woes

Each time I dock my EEE PAD in the docking station I only have a 10% chance it will recognize the keyboard. Sometimes I get the keyboard only, sometime it recognizes the keyboard and the mouse (pad) but mostly it recognizes neither. Sometimes it says it is connected to the docking station and still doesn't recognize the keyboard but mostly it says it is not connected to the docking station after insertion.
I called ASUS support - they had me reset the transformer (Hold volume 'down' while hitting power) and also do the Factory Data Reset. Curiously while on the phone with them the keyboard just started generating 'd' keystrokes over and over! Finally they sent me instructions for updating the firmware, which I was to do myself. I did not research how to do this last step because I think it is completely unnecessary: the latest version is 8.4.4.5 and I already have that version. I called ASUS support back but they say their computers are down and call back tomorrow. However, the last thing he said was I will have to send it to their repair center in CA.
Basically, two questions: 1) Do you think I should download the firmware anyway? 2) Has anyone else experienced this issue?
I am not a genius but I would try reinstalling firmware. Maybe you got a bad firmware in your keyboard?
Fascinating is it not?
Not trying to be too simplistic but you might also make sure that the thing is really in there good too. The connection between my tablet and dock is pretty tough to get just right and the only way I really know for sure it's in there is to pull up on either side of the screen to make sure it's seated properly. I can imagine if one was more finicky then mine it might look like it's in there, latch slid and all, but still pop one side out if you tugged.
Just a thought based on my use.
I noticed the same thing...it's easy to think the dock is in correctly...it has to "click" and the little bar has to go ALL the way to the right side of the slot..otherwise it's not making 100% contact.
I had a broadly similar issue with mine. I eventually got the retailer to accept it back as faulty and ordered another [from a different supplier so it was from a different batch] and have had no issues with the new one... so far!
I am quite conscientious about docking the tablet solidly in the docking station. I use both hands (on each side of the tablet) and push firmly till I see the silver clasp pop completely over to the right. I have tried tugging it out afterward and neither side will budge upward.
Bottom-line is ASUS created an RMA # for me today. They want only the docking station, and not the tablet also. (My concern is what if the problem is the connector on the tablet?). One of the three main reasons I purchased ASUS was reliability, yet this is the first computer I have bought which failed out of the box! Anyway, it's nice to have prompt support and service. I called them 3 times and got through in less then 5 minutes all 3 times.

Screen sticking

Anyone else having a weird, intermittent issue with the touch screen seemingly not working right
IE: I try to scroll and instead it makes a tap where my finger lands. Unlocking the screen doesn't work 50% of the time because the lockscreen will just lag out and I have to sleep/re-wake the device
This happens on stock and after i rooted to tiamats rom

Your device may not be grounded. It's a common problem with touch screen devices. Does this happen when you're holding the device in your hands?

I really don't know, let me do some testing and see what circumstances it is replicated under.
How would grounding be determined? Its not charging...
I do have it in a silicon/rubber case. Would that be a problem?
Just for the sake of satisfying my curiosity - if you are experiencing this issue while your Xoom is docked - try placing your fingers on the back of your Xoom and typing with your thumbs.
I am trying to resolve a similar issue that I only encounter while my Xoom is docked at one place in the world - my work. Nowhere else does it do this.
I have installed a power conditioner, with no effect. It happens whenever the power is plugged into the dock. If I use an external power supply it goes away (batteries). I did switch off the florescent lighting and it is better, so it may be EM related. especially since it is a *capacitive* screen.
I have also read of people with other capacitive touch screen devices have the same issue when it is not held in their hands.
Let me know either way.
Thanks,
Frans

I have seen issue on gtab where some roms/kernel where having issue with screen calibration, there was a calibration files that could be created in the root with the name calibration.ini and upon reboot it was fixed, I do not know if this is valid for a xoom tho...
with a few rom I had NO issue whatsoever and never reused the calibration...

Well you bring an interesting point. The device was in my hands but I was not actually touching it... It had a rubber sleeve on it.
I since got the Motorola hard case which has some areas exposed and I also disabled the lock screen, and I have not been able to replicate the problem at all.
The device was docked at one point, charging, and the problem showed up aagin (recalling from memory). The fix was to power off the screen and re-wake the device. This did involve touching it, so...maybe its an electrical thing?

I had this problem with the stock 3.2 ROM. I haven't done any calibration, and don't think I need to: it works perfectly majority of the time.
I'll reenable the lockscreen and try to replicate it again.
Okay I think I'm onto the problem
I opened the case just now, still lock screen disabled, pressed just the power button and the touchscreen was acting up again.. couldn't slide to scroll, but could tap/point only
I then put my thumb on the side, as if naturally holding it without a case, and it started working normally again without any kind of power cycle.
Thoughts?
Have you dropped or jarred your Xoom a lot? Look for threads I started in this forum, I have one that explains this issue and includes a fix. My Xoom is still working flawlessly. I'd link it but pre-calculus is about to start.

I bought the XOOM second hand from someone who claimed they hardly used it. Right now sitting infront of me, the bottom right, on the back edge, there is a small pressured crease as if it was dropped (looks like the corner of my phone when i dropped it on tile).
I personally have not dropepd it, but I throw this thing onto my bed all the time, it fell out of the dock onto my hard desk once, so yeah its been knocked around.
Will doing that mod void the warranty?
I found no warranty stickers or screws when I disassembled it. The back cover is made to slide down so that Moto can do the 4G upgrade, so I doubt they want to be fooling with that type of thing anyways. I can't say for certain that sticking a piece of foam in the back of your Xoom won't void the warranty, but I can say that it fixes the issue(which also could be covered by warranty if you can get someone to believe you've got the issue, I however could not, so I had to take it upon myself).
Alright
I just ran into the problem again playing a game.. seemed like the right half of my screen just stopped working intermittently. Kept playing and it returned to normal.
I may pop it open and try the foam thing. I'm pretty good with disassembling laptops.. I can't see this being much harder.
