Recently (starting hours ago) When i try to text and use the physical keyboard it jumps around. It may scroll up the message or go over to send or things like that. I have taken my screen protector off (great, now i buy another one) and wiped it all down but it still does it.
I also reset it a few times.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I am getting the same thing. I think something is conducting on the capacitive screen as when I set the phone down or don't touch it at all, this never happens.
So should i exchange it?
I don't know. Like I said mine seems to do the same thing. I am not sure if it requires exchanging or if my fingers are brushing the side in a way they shouldn't. I'm open for suggestions myself
Hmm no mine just jumps up the text page like it scrolls the chat message up even if nothing is touching the screen.
Same thing here. Used to happen with my old myTouch but it was after a couple months of use. Uncool for it to happen on the G2 just after the 14 days have passed.
It is probably the capacitive pad thats not working right. Its probably detecting heat and scrolling on its own.
Yes get a replacement.
It's the touchpad. Move to a room with different lighting and try again.
I second the touchpad. It messes me up in the terminal by sending special characters.

I did notice it was the light now. Still does it sometimes tho.
Thanks. What do you guys mean by captive ? Heat ?
Mine does this randomly too, and I've also concluded it's the trackpad. One time I went to my home screen while it was doing it and I could watch the selection scrolling from left to right.
Haven't figured out how to fix it, usually if I lock then unlock the phone it works fine.
Mine just started doing this today. I was sitting under the A/C and i noticed whenever i would try to swype during SMS text messaging, it would highlight "Send" in orange or it would highlight and scroll up the text thread. After I moved away from the A/C, it stopped doing this. my trackpad has been fine and I have never had any issues prior to this or even after moving away from the A/C vent.
This trackpad works on heat I would guess or like others have said, possibly electrical ground current which is probably by a grid I would imagine.
Thats kinda bad for you guys. I havent had this problem at all but seems like a trackpad problem. This happen to me on my g1 onces and that was a dirty trackball

Sometimes, I'll place the handset down on a table or whatever, and completely of it's own accord, the screen will scroll right to the second page. Then a couple seconds later, it'll scroll right again to the third, and fourth. I'll pick it up and swipe back to the home screen and put it back down, and it'll do the same thing again. Basically.... wtf?
Sometimes it does it in menus aswell, scrolling down lists one by one every few seconds when the thing isn't even in my hands.
Has anyone else experienced this? I've had a couple of replacement handsets and it's done it on all of them!

It has happened to mine, intermittently. I was hoping that it was just a little piece of grit under the trackball and that it would stop, but now you've got me worried that it is a common fault. Mine is an unlocked white in the UK, bought from Devicewire and delivered around 10 days ago...
Yup, I can comfirm it has happened to me with 3 white sim free Heros. It can happen when the device is completely undisturbed so i'm assuming it's some weird software glitch.
I can't even identify what causes it, to recreate the conditions. Seems totally random.

Hopefully a (rapid) firmware upgrade will sort it...
Could it be something on the touch screen?
I think I have seen this too! Do we all have screen protectors on? I do on my Hero....
It seems to me like the people widget caused me some issues. I have removed it and the device is faster and this bug hasn't appeared for me at all since.

Screen protector, yes. And the People widget (which I find very useful!)
Speaking about really weird things going on with the Hero. I can contribute with some funky stuff too:
When having my Hero near/under my mousecable the mousepointer (on the monitor) gets its own life. It starts moving randomly and begins to scroll the pages up and down in my browser WITHOUT me touching anything. I do have a cable connected mouse (USB). The phone has wifi, GPS and Network activated. I have not yet tested what happens with those turned off though.
Haha this is getting interesting. I noticed some mousepointer jitter when I was using the PC at work today, with my Hero nearby. I'll investigate more today.
Mine doesn't have a screen protector, but I do use the people widget on my second page. I'll remove it and see if it makes a difference to the spontaneous scrolling.
I just got my white unlocked hero 3 days ago and I just noticed this problem for the first time. The home screen would move over 1 or 2 screens without me even doing anything. Im wondering if it was major lag from previous movements I made. Im sure this is a software bug, does anyone know if HTC releases software updates for their android devices? I just switched from an iphone and hope they would release updates and fixes like apple did when something was wrong with a software release.
This phone is what... a week since launch day? We are early adopters and will find bugs. There'll be an update soon I'm pretty sure.
I think there is some interference with Wifi/Other radio and the Hero screen.
When i put mine on my desk next to my PC i cannot press all buttons on the touch screen but the wheel and hardware keys still work. When i move it 1m away from my PC this behavior is gone.
This problem happened to me when I had wet hands. All I did was wipe the hero dry and it worked fine again.

This is due to the phones aggressively high SAR value (it's really really high). I would think twice before putting this phone in your pant pockets if you ever want to have chidren

Wow, really? I already have 2 so going to keep this in my pocket from now on!!!
Aaaaaaaand HTC didn't bother fixing this in the new rom. The T9 keyboard input bug and huge lag are also unchanged.
I can confirm that this odd bug still lurks around in the official 2.73.405.5 build.
It has been suggested that it migh be due to dirt inside the trackbal housing but then why would the homescreen suddenly scroll on its own without being touched? Maybe a sensor glitch? I don't know what solution HTC are using to read the movements of the trackball though... one thing is for sure; it's not a good one....
I'm 100% sure now it's not a hardware issue. It's happened on multiple Heros I've used, not long out the box either. The only thing I've noticed that indicates any kind of pattern to the apparent randomness is that it gets a lot worse when there's a lot of mobile data transfer going on. One time I physically couldn't get it to stay on the homescreen long enough to click an icon.
Just pitching in, exact same problem here. Very strange that everyone gets it to the right :/
Just notice on mine too, some automovement in menu and home
Upgraded yesterday to new firmware (modaco)
Could be an increase of trackball sensibili? I see a settings to tweak it on blackberry device...on android?
Hi, Just wonder if you still have the screen problem (register the wrong place when click) after the upgrade.
No. You should check out the humongous thread on google support forums. Googe have now abandned even giving updates on this serious problem.
http://www.google.com/support/forum...8e&hl=en&fid=04134c63c784258e00047fdfe09ae547
p.s. no fix in ere36b either (as im running that now and still experience this problem at random)
I don't understand this issue, I just don't see it on mine at all, no matter what ROM I install ... there has to be something more to this than a simple fault across all handsets ... either select faulty ones or some other factor. Mine just works 100% as expected at all times.
That said I have had no 3G issues either, no matter what radio version I use. Perhaps I am lucky ?
I think its because people are touching the edge of the screen while pressing with the other causing it to register incorrectly

That is not it, there are plenty of videos that show the touchsreen misfiring while just laying on the table. Also, the way I hold my phone I am never touching the glass surface other than with the one finger doing the touching.
With regards to some people not seeing it, this issue is very random. I can go for days without noticing it and then out of the blue it would come back, most annoying when it happens while typing something.
There is another somewhat related issue with the sensor on the n1. If you download an app called multi touch paint and try to draw two parallel lines simultaneously from say top left corner down to bottom right you will see that the lines are not straight at all and full of zigzags. Only way that this sensor recognizes multiple lines properly is if you draw perfectly vertical or horizontal lines.
There is also a discussion on developer groups where game developers are pointing out this very problem of multi toch totally being screwed up where it switches axis causing your touch to register in completely the wrong place. From the comments of the android engineer it makes it seem that the sensor hardware is just like that, cheap and low quality.

I know, I have seen all these videos and attempted to re-create many times to test I have never seen this issue once.
Don't get me wrong I can understand it being a mare of you are having it, but I just dont ever see it.
after trolling the Google thread, it seems to me there are several scenarios everyone is lumping into "screen issues" and it's going to be hard to pin it down to one source
Mine happens (touch registers on the wrong part of the screen) when I am using certain apps (Ringdroid, Browser mostly) - a couple of things clears it up ; press the sleep button, kill all tasks if you have an app for it, or change to landscape mode. For other people it's the soft keys and/or much worse. Since mine clears up with a specific action, I tend to think it is software related.
With mine it used randomly to happen but only in the Launcher (never again since 36B). I couldn't point anywhere but if I selected any app with the trackball and opend ist everything worked fine again, also the keyboard on the launcher worked well. For me it seems that it has something to do with the launcher.
I loved everything about this Phone until today. Today is the day I tried to access ebay from my Phone. Brought up the page in only a few seconds, good start. Pinch to zoom working well, excellent.
username in without too much trouble.
Password.... it took me 20 mins to get this in due to the ****ty sensitivity on the screen. I was almost at the point of throwing it against the wall.
I have the sensitivity fix installed, is there proper solution for this problem or some way to make the screen much more accurate for typing?

what was the problem?
clicking the password field (I just find you have to be quite zoomed in, in opera it seems to ignore clicks to fields unless the fields have been zoomed in on.)
or typing the password on the keyboard because it has no auto text correction? (I dont really find this a problem to be honest, I use a large number of numbers, letters uppercase and lowercase and symbols and aslong as I dont type it too fast and think about each key I will always type it right first time)
getting into the fields wasnt too bad with zoom. The problem was multiple taps. When I type a key sometimes It also puts on all the keys around it, seems to be a bit random - I havent got sausage fingers either.
It may be worse for me as I had a touch HD before this and the resistive screen was very accurate, may just need more time to acclimatise.
you probably should go into notes and try drawing lines around, if they aren't really straight or if by pressing in one spot you have the cursoir drawing all around your fingertip, then it's probably still something to do with warranty servicing
Me, on the other side, never ever had any problem with sensitivity at all, all the contrary I think that if I had to install the sensitivity patch it would be way more unpleasant to use the phone, I like the sensitivity as it is now
:S hmm that sounds a bit weird, I don't really have much of a problem with key accuracy.
are you typing your password too fast? might help if you slow it down, instead of retyping it ten times, take 5 times longer to type it the first time and you have already cut down the time it takes you by a lot
Get the original stylus from HTC and try again. If it happens with the stylus too the screen is fu.....
This is going to be a random suggestion
Do you have any Task Managers installed? Such as Dutty's/Touch X or Appelflap's or anyone that put an icon in the top right of your screen.
If so, try uninstalling them and see if this a has any positive affect on your typing.
We'll deal with a replacement Task Manager later
when I move quickly accross the page it is fine, when moving slowly its absolutely terrible, akin to sizeometer earthquake 9 on the ricter scale. I am using Laurentius26 GoldEdition V2.1, I will flash back to stock and see what that is like.
this is what I am getting, exactly..!

Have you tried using a different rom, if a new rom doesnt fix it there must be some hardware failure since that is not standard behaviour for the screen. I have just performed the same test on my phone and I get near perfect straight lines even while varying the pressure on the screen.
You say you have a fix installed is it this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=604831
I had the none ghost fix installed but realised I have both problems. Just uninstalled and installed the ghost+sense fix and reset....
no change
will try a new ROM, if no change then I am going to send it back to VODA, this was a "nearly new" phone on their swap scheme, got it free on £20.month, seemed to good to be true and was.
Watch this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egVn2HvexhQ&feature=related). It may be the case that your HD2 needs to be sent for repair as it may just be defective.
Did you try running no task managers? I presume that it did not help.
Send it off and explain it's unusable in this state.
put stock new ROM on from Voda, a lot better by far. It must either be the ROM, the fix or Zoomer which is causing this. I wonder if anyone else has has this problem, i will log this on the ROM thread.
still having problems with this, not as bad as before, think i am going to send it back and cancel the contract, I think this phone although beautiful is not fit for purpose.
i bought my incredible used about a month ago and i noticed that occasionally when im using the optical joystick and im scrolling down sometimes it will just start to scroll up, even after i move my finger away from it. also sometimes it will randomly keep trying to scroll up uncontrollably.
i was thinking that this possibly has to do with my screen protector, is still brand new and has been on the phone since before i even bought it. but my question is if it is worth wasting a perfectly good screen protector to find out if its causing the optical joystick to do this? and i have no idea how to even remove the screen protector because i have been trying to pull it off for a while now and no luck.

The track pad being dirty can cause this, I usually just wipe it with my shirt and it's fine.

It may be a coincidence, but I used to periodically (once or twice a week) have my optical pad start drifting or go out of control. In the month or so I've dropped HTC Sense and been running Cyanogen ROM, it hasn't happened a single time.
This happened to me before and they just sent me a new phone.
Got the new phone and never happens.
I researched a while back and this is somewhat common with the incredible.
Hello,
I've been having touch screen issues lately, since i rooted and switched to CM 6.1 a couple of weeks ago. The screen will work perfectly for a little while, but will inevitably stop responding. I'm using launcherpro, though i don't believe that's the issue- it happens regardless of which launcher I'm running (I've tried others and experienced the same issue. The optical scroll pad will still "sort of" work- better than the screen (which will respond to the occasional touch after the problem begins, but barely does). If I reboot, the problem will usually go away for a while again, but will recur. I wind up needing to fix the issue once or twice a day. I don't think it's a hardware problem because the reset fixes it, so I assume it is then software. Also, i don't remember having this problem with the stock rom. Has anyone else experienced this, or does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!
Dunno how useful this will be, but have you tried reflashing CM?

Same problem here. But I've noticed sometimes if I'm using the phone not in my hand (on car dock or just on table) this problem seems to happen more...but when I hold it in my palm then works fine.
But sometimes it just becomes unresponsive. Am running virtous's rom on my g2. But I can remember having the same issue when running cm on my g1 days too. Reboot always fixed it, just gets annoying.
Anyone have fixes to this? Thanks!!

I personally use GV 7 or sparksmod and. Never had a problem, these are the best roms I think for this phone.

Been having this exact problem for weeks now. And I believe it is a hardware problem, probably some sort of short in one of the ribbon cables or the digitizer itself. Occasionally, actually 85% of the time I'd try to open an apparently and the phone would act if I held my finger down and then the apparently icon gets selected...very annoying cus it happens over and over a couple times, all I can do is keep trying until it does what its supposed to. Also with the on screen keyboard when I'm texting it'll act like I'm holding down on one of the letters and keeps bringing up the special characters to that letter...or ill tap delete to delete a spelling error and it'll end up holding it down and deleting my whole damn text and I can't stop it.
At first when this first started happening I could simply tap the screen and it would stop the crap it was doing and work fine. As time went on I noticed I kept having to hit it harder and harder for it to correct it. Wellllll guess what? Last night it was acting up horribly and I slammed my closed hand against it while it was on the desk and it cracked the LCD screen and now the phone is completely useless, even though the outer touchscreen is perfectly fine.
The restarting of the phone also usually fixed it for me as well but only for a few minutes.. which also makes me think its a short because after the phone is turned off whatever part is shorting out, that circuit is closed and just takes time until you press on the screen in whatever spot to cause the two parts to touch and create the short all over again.
Anyways that's my story...just don't get angry and slam down on the screen lol. This is my 2nd G2 and I'm tired of it, probably just going to get a nexus s or just go back to the nexus one, atleast it was reliable.

if you open the battery cover u can see that there are connectors that closes the whole circuit, so when u are holding the phone the back cover works like a grounding area that makes the screen responce to your touch. Acapacitive screen works like this: when you touch in any area on the screen, you simply are breaking the electrical field that the screen has, the screen "feels" where u break it and tells the operating system.
the electrical field depends on the human body a bit to make the circuit complete, so when u touch the metal parts of the phone, the screen works like it is designed.
