Rooting official Gingerbread 4.6.4 - Droid Pro General

Has anyone been able to root our new 4.6.4 software?

I guess its just trial and error .. I have done some googling and there is a promising program out there called GingerBreak, seems to work on the Samsung 2.3 devices pretty well, but hasnt been tested completely. I was wondering just to do some trials with software that is out there and see if any works .. just a little worried it may cause some damage ..

I have been meaning to try on my wife's phone. Will set aside time either today or tomorrow. Will let u know.

Same for aRoot, seems to work fine in the cmd window but titanium backup cant get root rights.

Okay here is a funny occurence and I cant explain it ...
I am using WhatsApp as many others of you. There, you can set the colours how your led is flashing for notifications. I have it set to Purple type colour which means that the red and blue led have to flash together for it to work. This is not a standard led colour on the Droid Pro, like the others (blue, green, red). For this to work, the phone has to be rooted. I know for a fact that the led wont flash if unrooted.. However, after I attempted aRoot, it now actually flashes Purple again... How is that possible .. ? Titanium Backup can not get root permissions ... seems the phone is almost "soft-rooted" by aRoot ... Any explanations folks?

Is Superuser installed? If it's not install it from the market and retry your Titanium Backup thing.

guys where could i download aRoot?
i want to unroot current 3.8.7 and update to lates 4.6.4

U don't wanna do that..you'll be stuck with unrooted GB
What u wanna do is download the TBH app and use it to upgrade to rooted GB

**** I've already updated...waiting for root now...

same here, unrooted it with z4root
strange thing that superuser app still on the phone
but rootexplorer doesnt work, it doesnt even launch

I've been meaning to ask (since it looks like TBH is the only way to get root)... does the Team Black Hat app wipe the phone so I have to reload apps and personal data? Or does it work like an update and keep all that intact?

Well it shouldn't wipe, but you might *need* to wipe to get things going nicely afterwards.
I honestly can't remember my experience, so maybe someone else has the answer.

Actually, custom LED colors do not require root. Check out LightFlow, etc.

Still waiting for root method so I can freeze all this crapware!

Rooted 3.8.7 with aRoot, did not wipe, installed pre-rooted Gingerbread with TBH, no apps nor data lost, everything working well.

can anyone share the link to the TBH application and let me know if you have to pay for it?

Google is your friend....
... and yes, you have to pay $3....

If you've already updated to 4.6.4 and root is important to you then just use the 3.8.7 sbf in the TBH app to downgrade back to froyo and then load the pre rooted 2 part install.

How do you install the 2 part rooted GB update from TBH?

[1 Click Root] I Have Two Questions...

Ok, i just heard of the one click root app now out for the nexus one.. I always wanted to root, but every time I did, i was never able to get it. So anyways back to my questions...
*[1] I have stock froyo frf91.. I manually updated all the versions leading up to frf91 not once did I receive an ota update... Once I root, will that cancel my ota's? (even tho I manually update them) will I still get an ota update to gingerbread if I root?
*[2] Once I do this root thing, i want the best rom that includes a fast, clean, eye candy, all black theme. (Including the notification bar) after I find this, how do I go about and apply it? How do I install it?.. Isn't there an app in the market where I can look at the newest roms and themes and just apply them from there?
Sorry for the noob questions guys, i just want to witness what all of you have.. I want to unleash the potential of my nexus one! Lol.
** On a side note, i also heard that once you get a cyanogen rom, it is a must that you download the titanium back up app.. is that right?.. because that rom deletes everything...?
Thanks guys, very much!

Never heard bout the Backup thing issue,
But No, once rooted you dont get OTA's (due the fact you change recovery image and rom)
I believe if you still keep things stock like Recovery, and Official ROM you do! (but unsure of this)
Also there is a adb way to root which is simple and thats how i rooted my phone!
you can give that a try instead of one click!
there are no roms in market..
Also try to look through the Dev section, to even apple Dev roms you need to flash custom recovery then do a nandroid back up, then from ther you use the apple from sd!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=736271
this is the method i followed
-note if this is gonna be your first time rooting, i suggest you read all info possible bout it, then read it again.. the think on how your going to do it , then reread the info then apply.. while applying stil read the info
woah there. He'll still get the OTA notification and can even download it. You just can't apply the OTA updates. You have to use a rooted one, generally available here before you'll ever even see the OTA notification on your phone.
if you are rooting for the first time do it the loop adb way. Its a bit more involved but once you do it you will learn a bit about adb and other methods that you will need in the future.
One-Click root is going to make the more fun parts of modding harder in the future. The guide in the stickies is very easy to follow and it will pay off in the long run.
Or fastboot oem unlock it and have the badge of honor
That's the thing, i've tried doin it the adb way.. it just never worked for me..
And I also don't want to unlock the bootloader
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
this way should work like perfect, the other way with pulling sdard way seems kinda over that top for me..
Yea.. so if I use this one click method, i can use custom roms and themes?

Yup, I did that yesturday, there are a few more steps after rooting to get custom roms to work but you can do it.
On another note, cant you just flash back to stock, then using rom manager get rid of the custom recovery, then unroot using the 1click root? Wont that put you back to stock? cant you use the ota's then?
The AndRoot app is awesome. U can turn root ON or OFF anytime (even for ota).

and wear it proudly! fastboot is a cinch and pretty hard to ef up. the worst part is the syntax (especially if you dont have the recovery image in the right directory). i found this link to be helpful in learning how to use fastboot.
i used fastboot to unlock and to flash amon ra. then, running amon ra, i flashed whatever ROM i wanted. later, just for s and giggles i used rom manager to install the clockwork mod recovery.
if you dont like the outcome, you can always flash back to stock which will redo the stock recovery too... but the unlock badge will remain proudly displayed.

Rooting Help

Alright, I'm a total noob. Just got my Samsung Fascinate, it is succesfully rooted with CW on it, but... dunno what to do next. I want to upgrade to DJ05, but it said something about data wipe, and I don't want to lose my stuff. Same with themes and whatnot for DI09; I'm decent with tech, I'm just not sure how I can upgrade and not lose everything I have. Thanks, guys. (If anyone actually has AIM or something, I could use a bunch of help.)

What exactly are you worried about losing? You can get titanium backup and batch backup your apps and restore them when back up.
Uh... see... I don't exactly know how to do that. -.-;;
I'm mainly worried about losing my apps, app data (game saves / bookamrks in my manga app / etc.), stuff like that. All I backed up was using the CW backup in ROM Manager, though....

Won't I get errors and whatnot?
If you are using rom manager it should download the rom you choose, reboot itself into CW, and install the rom. If you don't wipe all your apps should remain. If you are worried you can use titanium backup for your apps.
I would use rom manager and boot into CW just to make sure. You can't just use rom manager to install CW you have to do that with odin. If CW is installed correctly it will boot into a recovery mode with green text.

I know I imstalled CW right. So I don't need to wipe, like everyone suggests?
You should be good, I have flashed multiple times without problems. The only time I've ended up loosing my apps is when I returned to stock buy lashing the dl01 rom. I would stay away from flashing the voodoo kernel just use one of the stupid fast kernels or others. Voodoo is good but you have to remember to disable it before flashing another rom or you can soft brick your phone.
So... I can install DJ05 without a wipe?

i know the eaiest way to root your phone. i did this for myself and this is 99.999% safe, does not delete any apps, or anythng like that. go to this website: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
then go to the part above all the comments and below the donations. there will be a attached file that says z4root.apk. To open this on your phone, the requirements are androzip, and superuser which u can find both on the market for free. Download the superuser and androzip and then download the file. From then on, after download, androzip will pop up and ask u if u want to unzip the file. press yes. then wait. after download, press z4. then press temporary or permanent roots. < permanent recommended, u can also deroot after permanent root. > after done rooting, ur phone will reboot. go to ur app u need to use as a rooted phone and something wil pop up. it will be the superuser grant. press allow and then, u got ur rooted phone.

The final post that needs to be made about updating.

Ok look I am brand new to Android, not even a week old. Everyone on the iPhone forums prefers to be babied (just like Apple treats them) so everything is very very easy and simple. Anything done can be easily undone. What I didn't realize when I came to this side, was that you can't just start modding away with no regard for what could happen or what you could need in the future. With that said, I have done the following mods:
Adeo modded ROM
Webtop hack
Root
Titanium for freezing
Now obviously I can unfreeze everything I have frozen to at least get all the stock apps back. And the Root program I used has a convenient "unRoot" option. But what about the other two? I realize that there are instructions for removing the Webtop hack, but they are extremely confusing and it looks as if I have to run a program from my comp and paste in a bunch of code to have it fixed. This looks scary.
Also, I was totally unaware that I couldn't just mod the crap out of my phone and just restore it if something fails. I realize that there is a "stock sbf" available to flash to, but people have complained that their wifi breaks. SCARY! All I (and many other noobs on here) want to do, is take away either the Adeo mod or webtop mod, or both, so that we can do the OTA update. Can someone do us a favor and lay this out for us step by step this ONE time and we promise to be more aware of what we are doing in the future?
On another note I read that the update was recalled. Does this mean that the update is no longer even available OTA?

Flashing the SBF only breaks wifi on unlocked phones that flash 1.5.2 so you don't need to worry there. Read the instructions on how to flash to 1.2.6 and make sure you have all the drivers installed before you do, flash back to 1.2.6 use aroot then run the script to retain root then run OTA (I believe it was recalled then released again as I think it was Moto that tweeted about it today) finish running ratain root script and you'll be golden running an update that fixed things I didn't even know were wrong lol

Flashing sbf doesn't break wifi on unlocked phones, totally false. If you flash 1.5.2 you can't use the 5.0 Ghz frequency due to a bug (don't know if it exists on 1.5.7)
I have an unlocked phone and flashed 1.5.2 and works fine. If yours fails, you have a defective phone or are using 5.0 ghz, exchange it or test 1.5.7.
I flashed back to 1.2.6 then did the aroot, script, ota, re-root, everything works perfectly.
Not an unlocked phone, but wifi a&g work perfectly.

If you have a gmail account logged into the phone your contacts will remain. Your photos are stored in a folder that gets untouched by flashes. All of your settings and apps will have to be redone. I wouldn't use titanium backup.
Even though Android claims to have built in app backup and restoring, I've yet to get it to work. Some people say they restore and login to the market and apps come flying back onto the phone. This is not my experience.

[Q] Unrooting Defy Plus

If I root my new Defy Plus using the one click root, how can I unroot it again, if I needed to send it back for example ?
Would a regular 'factory reset' take it back to unrooted state, or is there something else I'd need to do.
Try the unroot option in soc. If out don't work you can flash an avg anytime to restore the phone to 'just out of box' condition
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Hi,
Not sure if Super one click will root the Defy plus. I tried it the first defy plus I got and it would not work.
Droid3 root did work though. I had to send it back due to it continually re booting. Used Pete's Root tools (think that's what it was called to un root it). Must have worked as I was sent a replacement phone with no problems.
Mind you the touch screen was faulty on that one. On my third defy plus and it is working fine after three days, fingers crossed!
Regards

Yes its the droid 3 root that works on the defy plus, I'll have to have a look for Pete's root tools if that's the way to unroot again.
does anyone know how can i be sure if my phone is unrooted or not? is that sure that pete's tools work?
Well, m8be a stupid question..
But what does it do ?
Can i put some other software on the root of this phone like i did on HTC ?
yes you can use new features on your phone like adblocker apps and for example you can delete apps that were installed on the device when you bought it.
Well i rooted my phone and somehow my camera (view from screen) ****ed up.
I tried a different android proggie from the market and did the same error.
So unroot did do the job and gave my camera and gave my view back.
Some1 got the same problem ?
I've never heard about such a problem before. but what program did you use to root and unroot the phone? cus we heard about a a few programs which work but let's make these things clear
DROID 3 easy root script v7
I also rooted my defy plus this afternoon, I used the newest version (2.3.1.0) of Super One Click and it worked. Both rooting and unrooting were finished and I also checked it with a few apps which need a rooted phone. Both rooting and unrooting were succesfull.
Because some apps works only on a rooted handy i tried again
with DROID 3 easy root script v7.
Superuser seems to work now.. also my camera
The only thing i didn't do is to go into boot section after the blue led thing.

Galaxy s plus constant restart

Hello, ive had my samsung galaxy s plus for little over 2 months and its been frequently restarting 2-3 times every week. it doesnt happen for a specific app. once it restarted when i plugged it into my usb to connect to my pc. other times its just during apps - games twitter etc.
i want to know if anyone has solution to this and if anyone has had similar issues. my phone isnt rooted by the way.
replies are much appreciated
Well. I don't think there is a real solution for this, flashing XXKPS will solve the problem 100%. You are probably running 2.3.3 right? If you are then FLASH!
(Flash ROM > Install Feamod Recovery > Do whatever you want)
2.2.3 = cheap ass battery life and contains several bugs
Here you go mate, have a read here and update your Rom to newer one or even a custom one.
