Okay here is the rundown:
1. Bought HD2 phone from ebay that had "freezing problems". Phone would freeze on "Stick Together" screen even after hard reset. Cleaned and made sure battery pins were straight. Removed SIM and sd card during the entire process.
2. Attempted to flash T-Mobile 2.13 update by sd card. (Formated card FAT32 and changed .nbh file to leoimg.nbh). Waited a day and then hard reset the phone and phone froze again.
3. Flashed HSPL and attempted to run Task29. (Right click on run as administrator but the program never completes). I've tried the version that requires a radio. I attempted to extract the Task29 that doesn't require the radio but for some reason the computer is unable to do so.
4. Tried to run T-Mobile update again but now that program cannot finish. Says something about radio failure.
I can still get into the bootloader screen but if I start it up normally it reads "System update failure". Needing any help I can get. I'm not an expert at this (obviously) so please try to use "noob" terminology for my benefit if possible. I'm using Vista and I'll try to give whatever information that may be needed in order to resolve this matter. Thanks in advance for your help.
What does it show in bootloader exactly?
And, after you flashed 2.13.531.1 stock did the phone boot past the splash screen (Stick Together screen)? Have you tried flashing via Activesync?
In bootloader in the upper right hand corner it says RUUNBH
then shows the following lines
PB81120 HX-B3
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x40
Upgrade ROM code error
Please try again
Once I flashed stock ROM it went pass the splash screen once (and that was after many MANY hard resets without SIM and sd card).
I tried activesync also but it doesn't complete. It keeps failing when it gets to installing the radio.
try to flash just a radio....Just make sure its compatible with the phone...you can only use one series of radio for the tmous hd2....
Manually put phone into bootloader..
Connect to computer via usb
Run RUU...
Cant hurt...just to see if you can flash a radio to it..since thats where your getting your errors...

He stated quite clearly he bought the phone on eBay - Hows he gonna get a replacement from T-Mobile without a warranty?
Okay - if you can get to the Bootloader consistently, you have that going for you at least. Did you try just flashing a Radio? If thAT fails, Next thing I would try is a task 29, then flash a stock ROM afterwards. Alternately, you COULd try reflaching HSPL, in the event that it's corrupted in some way. You have some options still, just preceed cautiously, and don't flash anything you are unsure of. Let us know what happens!
i have the same exact issue too, see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8434282#post8434282
I am using windows 7, and mine installed the regular spl and rom, but not the radio from the memory card.
I hope someone figures it out.

Sorry, I just realized XDA went down one night and all my updated information that I posted on here was erased. Anyway, I was successful in running task29. I also successfully updated the phone to the 2.13 software from t-mobile. In the end my phone still froze and would occasionally go past the splash screen. Since I can't get any consistency with the phone (and since I've been working on this phone for almost 3 weeks) I just finally gave up on it. Hope somebody can find a solution for the rest of you experiencing this problem. I will continue to check back at the other threads to see if anyone finds the magic fix. Thanks for everybody who tried to help me.
A friend had Android running on his HD2 but it kept freezing at random moments. It looked like bad memory or incorrect partitions on the SD. Either way, I offered to install his, since it works fine on mine.
So I put on the right radio, did Task29 (twice), installed MagDlr and on to CWM. First time it failed. Second time it worked, but didn't restart automatically. After a restart AD Recovery didn't load up CWM. So I figured I'd better redo the MagDlr install. Again the same.
Another step back I tried to reinstall a WM6.5 rom, just to check if that worked. First time it froze up at 31%, second time at 59% and the third time at 12%. No success.
Last step back: try to install HSPL 2.08 again. Again it froze up during installation. Now if I reboot into HSPL it displays 'Software update failure, please try again!' before it goes into the HSPL bootscreen (tricolour).
And finally, after that long story, here's the problem: in the white bar there is no word at all! No 'serial' and definitely no 'usb' when I plug it in.
Is it hard bricked? Do I need JTAG? If so, anyone in or near the Netherlands able to do this?
---------- Post added at 11:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:16 PM ----------
Ok, I just kept trying and despite the missing words, it still was able to connect appearently. So I did another install of HSPL 2.08 and this time it worked!
However, this success didn't last long. I tried to install from the start again for Android, so the next step was the correct radio rom.
The radio rom (2.15.50.14) installed fine till 96%. It hangs for a few seconds, which seems normal as it happened to my own phone as well, and jumps to 100%. But on the phone there's a triangle with exlamation mark and on the PC I get the message 'ERROR [290]: INVALID COMMAND.
After a restart, the same as before: warning about failure to update and HSPL with no words in the white area. Repeated 3 times, same every time.
Anyone any idea?
Hardware problem?
Well, that really sounds like some hardware issue in the flash memory chip.
If your friend is still in warranty I would suggest sending the phone in for repair (After flashing (or attempting to flash) a stock ROM of course )
Thanks for the reply, I was afraid of this. The warranty is long gone I think.

Hi, I am having a problem where my phone is stuck in a rebooting cycle. When I power it up I get the T-Mobile screen (btw is there a way to get rid of that?) and then the 1,2,3,4... screen. Then the screen goes blank and reboots and the same thing happens again and again...
I had flashed it to WM7 so I was thinking that might be the problem. I wanted to load the stock ROM anyways but I'm not sure how I can do that now with the problem I having.
I tried powering it up while holding the volume down button. I get to the red, blue, green screen but my XP system doesn't detect the phone. Activesync doesn't recognize it either.
When reading how to flash it back to stock ROM, I remember one site said that it doesn't matter if it doesn't sync the utility would still be able to flash it back to stock. I want to make sure though so I don't brick the phone.
Any help would be appreciated.
yes it should still work. theres only been one computer ive used to flash (android or wp7) that recognized my leo and it has been successful. SOMETIMES ive gotten an error about halfway through the process but i just restarted and it went off beautifully.
flashing back stock rom ive never had ANY problems PERIOD and phone was never detected. good luck

this type of bootloop, so early into teh boot sequence, (especially if the phone is stable when in bootloader) is very often a bent/broken/not connecting battery connector.

activesync never does in bootloader. the instructions to get an activesync connection' doesnt mean activesync teh program, it means 'get a usb connection to your computer', , if it says usb in the white area of bootloader you are good to go.

Thanks for all of the advice. I was unable to get it to flash properly. I started the process and a progress bar showed up on the phone but then at 1% I got an error on the PC saying that a connection cannot be established with the phone.
I then tried the SD card method (copying RUU_signed.nbh to an SD card after renaming it to leoimg.nbh), but it seems to have made it worse. I started up the phone in bootloader with this file on the sd card and it started the flashing process. A couple of minutes later it stopped with this showing up on the screen:

Please help. I don't know what to do. This is getting very frustrating.
I also experienced the reboot loop,
I used another SD card and that solved it.
only problem is, now I have a fukked up microSD card, and I have not found a device that is able to format it.
When my phone goes into a boot loop (i.e., powers up, shows boot screen, gets past MAGDLR, goes to the loading screen, then reboots), I only need to connect it to a wall-plug to charge it and voila, it starts for me.
I have no idea why this is the case, it is very random if and when it goes into a boot loop. But I've heard that most reboots are related to the SD cards.
One solution you can try is to fill up the SD-card. Fill it up to say 30 ~ 40 % full of stuff? Apparently, this will give you some luck in filling up the sectors of the card that aren't "sufficiently" fast enough for WP7 that might be causing the reboot. I did that for mine and it drastically cut down on the rate of how often it rebooted. Now it's once every few days whereas it used to be a few reboots in a single day.
Sorry to bump this old thread but things came up and I didn't get a chance to try to resolve this and I sort of forgot about it.
I now have been trying to fix it again using some of the suggestions here but the phone is acting funny. When I first tried to power it up nothing happened. I figured because it had been sitting so long, so I plugged it in to the charger. As soon as I did the phone powered up without me pressing anything. Then the red, green, blue, and white screen that looked like this:

popped up on the screen and then it immediately went to a gray screen that said "loading...." It was stuck on this so I removed the battery. When I inserted the battery back in and powered it up the camera flash went off and it vibrated continuously. The same thing happened a second time when I tried. I thought I would let the battery charge overnight, so I plugged it into the charger. The charging light never came on but I thought I would see anyways.
When I checked on it in the morning, the screen was lit up gray but there was nothing else. I took out the battery, popped it back in but the phone wouldn't turn on. I took out the battery and let it sit for about 15 mins. I put it back in but it wouldn't power up if I pressed the power button. I held the volume down button and pressed the power button and the same thing happened with the red, green, blue, and white RUUNBH screen coming up and then it immediately goes to "loading..."
I took out the battery to power it down and tried again, but nothing happened. Again, I took out the battery and let it sit for 15 mins. but this time I also removed SD card. Now when I hold Volume down and press power and the RUUNBH screen comes up:

I then plugged it into the computer through USB and the "Serial" on the screen changed to "USB" and in device manager it shows up as Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM.

Bump. I went on the HTC website to see if I could find the appropriate ROM. I entered my IMEI number and it directed me to download Version 2.13.531.1
It seems like this is a different version than what is showing up on my phone right now.
I'm not sure how I should proceed and doing a search I find differing advice. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi everyone,
I'm totally lost with the HD2 my brother didn't want any more. I think he installed an android os but it couldn't launch or function correctly so I tried to have it back to his original state.
I tried the hard reset but it didn't work, the phone didn't launch.
I used the Task29, it worked and cleaned the phone. Then I tried to install the official rom 3.14 found on the htc support's page. The loading get stuck at 1% and stop to move until I get the 262 error.
I read a bit and try to understand how all of this work but I still don't get it. I tried the older version of the official rom, it worked a bit better since now the loading bar get stuck at 6 or 8 % randomly.
So now when I power on the phone it says : "Software update failed! Please try again" which I tried all yesterday long.
When I hold volume down and power on what I get on the red green blue white screen is this :
RUUNBH
PB81100 SS-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x50
Upgrade ROM code error
Please try again
I don't know what to do to resolve my situation. I'll be grateful for any help or hints you can give me.
Looks like you are trying via USB.
You could have a corrupt nand in a wrong area or some sort of hardware error.
Just to eliminate hardware, re-download the 3.14 ROM (in case you got a corrupt file)
and extract it, put the NBH file on the root of your SD card and make sure it's called leoimg.nbh disconnect from your PC and boot into bootloader and flash from SD
btw this is a tmobile phone right?

Hello Maywiki,
task29 doesn't delete HSPL, that causes your troubles. May I cite from HSPL4 by Dark Forces Team:
"5) Uninstallation
Only way to remove the HSPL is to flash an original SPL from SD card.
- Take any "RUU_signed.nbh" from a ship ROM and copy it to SD card.
- Rename it to "leoimg.nbh"
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button."
Be sure your battery is charged.
For future flashing experiences I advice you to not only "read a bit" but digging deep into it - and then re-read again.
Have fun

task29 did not cause any of his issues, after he did taask29 he tried to do what you say and flash the stock ROM but it hangs on the flash.
At no time from the bootloader should a flash just stick like that. I personally think it's a hardware failure, bad nand or something, or even a bricked radio if it keeps hanging near 1%, but you never know, the ROM he's using might be corrupt.
I still suggest you download the ROM again, put the .nbh file on your sd card like stated above and try a flash from SD.
If that fails maybe you can try to flash a custom ROM that does not include a radio and if that flashes we know we cannot flash a radio because that is what is hanging the flash.
Thanks for all your replies.
Yes I try via usb.

Nope, it was bought in Belgium and it's not tied to an operator.
That's the name of the file I downloaded from the htc site : RUU_Leo_S_HTC_FRA_3.14.406.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship
The problem is that I can't access the sd card. The pc knows that an htc device is connected but I can't acces the device (it doesn't show up anywhere) and the sd card. The windows mobile app doesn't find a device connected too. Could it work if I pass via another phone to put the file on the sd card ?

thats bad, 8/9 is the time the radio is being flashed, and is a primary indicator of a stuck radio (which also covers stuck spl, , corrupt spl/radio/bootloader basically)
The first time, the 1% hang, is the point where a stock rom tries unsucessfully to flash the spl for the first time, either triggering teh corruption, or the first time a flash has been attempted and so teh first time bootloader notices it's corrupted, (hence the RUUNBH at teh top of bootloader, it has tried to start flashing, and encountered an error, and not dropped out of flashing mode, as you would expect for a normal failed flash)
From here on, chances are you will either
1-never get anything to flash
2-possibly get winmo custom roms (no radio, see) to flash but nothing else
3-things like task29 and hspl appear to flash, but nothing changes
try No 2 first, and then try the freezer trick, chill teh phone right down, and have an sd card ready with the leoimg.nbh ready on it ready to flash as soon as you take it out of teh freezer.
Just occasionally, people get past this type of error, probably meaning the issue was corrupt software, but usually there is no fix (except JTAG, and even that isn't always successful) possibly meaning hardware corruption of a critical area of nand.
Also, if it DOES work in the freezer, that probably means you have an overheating device.

Yeah exactly where I was going with this.
Use a USB SD card reader thing to put it on SD card, or even another phone if you have to.
Try a custom ROM maybe.
If you are running 2.15.00 you don't need to flash another radio anyways, and since you have HSPL you don't need another SPL either, so you're not quite as screwed as some others even if you've got a bad radio/no flash situation.
So I did what you said (except put the phone in the freezer).
The installation went ok. Once finished it said nothing so I guessed I had to restart the phone.
Now the phone gets stuck in a white screen with htc in green on it.
Did I make something wrong ?

No, either your flashed task29 then no rom or it's not loading the ROM,
try the SD flash again with the CORRECT rom and see what happens.

Thanks for the tips, but I got the phone for free and it was mean to be left alone somewhere on a desk. If the problem come again, I'll get a new phone. And I'm not ready to change a main board by myself, I have two left hand.

Ok, now I need an explanation. How the hell does this trick work ? I did what you said and now the phone works. What's the mystery behind this ?
Is it permanent or it will need to be done frequently ?

The trick works because your chip is overheating. This is a common HD2 problem. When you freeze the phone the chip cools enough to boot the OS, and it may run fine for a few minutes. Play a video or do anything that heats up the processor at all and it will reboot and get stuck on bootloader again. It is a hardware issue that can only be solved by one of the methods I mentioned above.

Yep you're right, it can't stand a video. Thank you anyway :good:
A friend gave me his non-working HD2 to try fix. It would only boot to a white screen (no HTC logo). I was able to get to the multicoloured screen by pressing the vol down + power button. I tried flashing the latest RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship rom via USB but repeatedly it got as far as 1% then gave me an error 270 message. I then extracted the image, copied it an sd card and tried to install from the card. It seemed to go ok until it stopped at 4% then rebooted. I now get as far as a white screen plus HTC logo but no further. Any attempt to flash another rom from the sd card gives an error 00028002 'not allowed' then I get the multicoloured screen but the SPL has changed to 3.03.0000 from I think 2.08 but I can't be certain. Perhaps with hindsight I should have written down what the old screen said!
Any ideas to rescue the situation willingly accepted.
Thanks,
Geoff.
With SPL being stock, you don't have many options. You can try flashing HSPL and then stock winmo/other OS. Or you can try to flash original stock through SD.
By the way, if the device was originally broken because of an overheating issue, you might have to cool the device before attempting to flash anything.
Good luck.

the first thing to happen when you sd card flash a stock rom, is that hspl gets removed, or if it isnt present, teh stock spl gets updated to teh one contained in teh new rom. Then the phone reboots into the new bootloader, and flashing starts.
What happened to you is it removed hspl, rebooted, and the fresh 3.03.0000 detected that the rom region/carrier doesnt match the phones region/carrier, and so failed.
That being said, teh fact that it wouldnt flash over usb is worrying, im leaning towards a faulty phone, but its early days yet.
Try setting hspl again, hspl4, set 3.03.hspl (not .0000) and try flash the rom you listed again, over usb, and report back.

I've got a very similar problem to this. My phone only boots to a blank white screen. When I hold the volume down button when turning it on, I can get to the bootloader.
From there, sometimes I can set 3.03 hspl, but most of the time the phone freezes at 0%. If I try to flash a stock rom, it stays frozen at 0%. If any of these updates work, then it still only boots to the HTC logo on the white screen.
I'm trying to flash via USB, could this be a faulty phone? I wonder what could be faulty?

yea sounds like it, lots of reports of exactly this, some kind of hardware probably, though JTAG may help.
