Reflash Rom - HD2 General

A friend gave me his non-working HD2 to try fix. It would only boot to a white screen (no HTC logo). I was able to get to the multicoloured screen by pressing the vol down + power button. I tried flashing the latest RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship rom via USB but repeatedly it got as far as 1% then gave me an error 270 message. I then extracted the image, copied it an sd card and tried to install from the card. It seemed to go ok until it stopped at 4% then rebooted. I now get as far as a white screen plus HTC logo but no further. Any attempt to flash another rom from the sd card gives an error 00028002 'not allowed' then I get the multicoloured screen but the SPL has changed to 3.03.0000 from I think 2.08 but I can't be certain. Perhaps with hindsight I should have written down what the old screen said!
Any ideas to rescue the situation willingly accepted.
Thanks,
Geoff.

With SPL being stock, you don't have many options. You can try flashing HSPL and then stock winmo/other OS. Or you can try to flash original stock through SD.
By the way, if the device was originally broken because of an overheating issue, you might have to cool the device before attempting to flash anything.
Good luck.

the first thing to happen when you sd card flash a stock rom, is that hspl gets removed, or if it isnt present, teh stock spl gets updated to teh one contained in teh new rom. Then the phone reboots into the new bootloader, and flashing starts.
What happened to you is it removed hspl, rebooted, and the fresh 3.03.0000 detected that the rom region/carrier doesnt match the phones region/carrier, and so failed.
That being said, teh fact that it wouldnt flash over usb is worrying, im leaning towards a faulty phone, but its early days yet.
Try setting hspl again, hspl4, set 3.03.hspl (not .0000) and try flash the rom you listed again, over usb, and report back.

I've got a very similar problem to this. My phone only boots to a blank white screen. When I hold the volume down button when turning it on, I can get to the bootloader.
From there, sometimes I can set 3.03 hspl, but most of the time the phone freezes at 0%. If I try to flash a stock rom, it stays frozen at 0%. If any of these updates work, then it still only boots to the HTC logo on the white screen.
I'm trying to flash via USB, could this be a faulty phone? I wonder what could be faulty?

yea sounds like it, lots of reports of exactly this, some kind of hardware probably, though JTAG may help.

HD2 stuck at the HTC boot screen

Hello, I have some problems with my mob.phone HTC HD2: after using Flash mobile stop working, then I tried install windows and tried turn on first time and my phone shows white screan with name HTC and don`t work at all, then i tried reset and Hard reset all setings and turn on again and than screan appears again with name HTC.
When i conect my phone to pc by usb, so my pc can`t find that phone.
Can you help me with this problem.
Thank you.
you should get your stock rom, ONLY your stock rom, extract the file ruu_signed.nbh
copy that file to your sd card formatted to fat 32 rename the file to leoimg.nbh
phone off
hold volume down
tap power (keep volume held)
phone should boot to three colors screen and start to flash.
this will ONLY work with original rom.
Thanks for Help.
Same problem......
I am also stuck in the white HTC screen, (R 2.06.51.07 G 15.30.50.07U D 1.66.76641). I can flash from SD card and so i tried, using the image in the latest official RRU, no way, it doesn't fix the problem.
I didnt try any unofficial rom, i just updated to the latest rom from HTC, it worked fine. The problem occurs after i had to restart the phone while trying to connect to a xifi AP...
Any idea what i should try now ?
Thanks. You saved my day.

OMG! Thank you so much! I love you!!!!!! I was stuck on boot because my flash failed and i followed your instructions and now i can flash again!!! i was so worried and if it weren't for you i would be screwed. Really you are a HUGE help! Keep the good work up
how long did you guys have to wait till the htc rebooted after that flash? cause ive been waiting for over 30 minutes and i thought i made that wrong.
Note: ive used HSPL fist, then flashed it with energyleo.23547, but energyleo kept stuck in bootloader
now im pretty afraid of loosing manufactors warranty ...
well lads, pay attention: ive fixed that my problem all by myself. HINT: ive kept holding the buttons for to long, so the device got stock while starting up. so dont press the voldown-button for too long, maybe only for 2 seconds!
hard reset
Remember boys and girls - if you get stuck on the bootloader you can also do the following:
1. Remove the battery to turn the phone off, leave 3 seconds
2. Replace battery and hold down the vol down button and turn on your device to get into the bootloader
3. It should say 'serial'. Plug your USB cable in and it'll change to 'USB'
4. Flash your stock ROM as normal using ActiveSync method. This will also reinstall the SPL (in the case of people who can't get past the first white HTC screen). I did this after the first (and only) time I tried to do it the SD card method. Put my stock SPL back on my phone

im pretty sure that flashing over usb won't do the spl. only sd card flashing can touch the spl.
When I tried to flash (after installing HSPL) using the sd card method and it bricked I went into the bootloader and it put my stock SPL back on - hence why I said if the sd card fails

I'd be inclined to suspect that In your case the spl was flashed during the failed sd card flash, so was already stock spl when you then flashed the stock rom over usb.(which of course being stock doesn't need hspl )
Hi Guys
I'm having the same problem, however, I bought the phone second hand. My question is how do I find out what my stock ROM is?

you download HSPL, run it, and if your spl is anything else than 1.42 it will give out an error and no harm is done
Hey
Thanks for replying. Do I get the stock ROM from the HTC website, is there a way to get it as a .nbh file as I am currently on a mac.
thanks

White Screen and HTC logo
I have found a similar problem, I flashed the HSPL rom following the instructions to the letter in the NOOB section.
Restarted my HTC HD2 having hard reset, and it would start and begin the installation and setup, once the setup completes, the software requests a soft reset, at this point my phone hangs on the white boot up screen with the HTC logo.
What am I doing wrong?
Stuck on White HTC Screen after ROM update
Why is it that, having run the HSPL update on my HD2 and checked that its successful, does my phone hang on the white HTC boot screen when it reboots after setup.
I have installed the energy rom, the most recent version. It still hangs at the boot after the rom does the soft reset...
Help please?

Any more ideas?

HD2 messed up all of a sudden

Hello,
I have been using the ChuckyROM for quite some time now, and I have been very pleased. Today, when I got the phone out of my pocket, I noticed that it was completely shut down (even if it had its battery somewhere around 98% last time I checked). I started it only to see a white screen, nothing at all happening. I removed the back cover, reset the phone via the red small button, but the result was the same white screen. I decided to remove the battery, the SIM card and the SD card and leave it to cool off for 10-15 minutes. 15 minutes later, I picked it up, put everything back together, started it, and only got that annoying white screen.
I left it charging for about 3 hrs (it usually charged up in about 2 hours, tops) and the LED kept staying red, as if it was not fully charged. I disconnected it, and the LED still wouldn't go off. I tried booting it, nothing happened, at all. Soft reset via red button, and the LED went off and the phone went back to that white screen again.
Right now it is connected to my laptop, apparently charging (red LED on), and I really don't know what to do.
My ROM was ChuckyROM with the GTX Sense theme.
I'm using HSPL 1.42.HSPL.
Radio version was 2.08.50.08_2.
I also have to mention that I can get the bootloader showing up, so I might try and revert to a stock ROM, but I preferred to post here first and get some suggestions.
What can I do? Please help me!
Thanks in advance!
If I were you, I might just take my chances and install a Stock ROM. See what happens after that...
Yeah, this was my intention to be honest. Do I need to change the HSPL before doing this? And if not, can I change it back to 1.48.0000 after reverting to a stock ROM?
You don't need to revert back to a stock ROM. Just flash another custom ROM!
From what I understand, if you flash a stock ROM via USB, you will still keep HSPL. If you flash a stock ROM via Storage Card, it will take away your HSPL, and you will need to redo HSPL.
If you do go back to a stock ROM, flash using USB so you don't have to redo HSPL.

I see, but I want to revert to a original SPL, because I will most likely take it back to service for other faults as well.
If I download a stock ROM and upload it to the SD card, everything will become stock, right?
Sorry for double-posting, but I just tried installing _HTC HD2_RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_EastEurope_1.48.479.1_Radio_Signed_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2_Ship, downloaded from HTC's site via USB connection while in bootloader, and it said that "the image is corrupt" and the process failed.
What now?

Yes, flashing a stock ROM from the SD-card will make it all stock.

Try re-downloading the ROM. Or you can find another stock ROM from HTC or HTCPedia.
I`m trying to download RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.43.405.1_Radio_Signed_15.26.50.07U_2.04.50_22_2_Ship.exe.
I have formatted my SD card to FAT32, but what should I try first? Going to bootloader and try to install the ROM mentioned above?

I feel even worse now! I have tried both ways, first using the new ROM via USB in bootloader, it said the same thing, that the image is corrupt. I then extracted ruu_signed.nbh, renamed it to LEOIMG.nbh, copied it to my FAT32 freshly-formatted SD Card, put it in the phone, and it said "Update terminate UPDATE FAIL", sticking at Radio_V2...
What can I do now? Should I try and flash another radio, or...
if that wwepmr is not your phones original stock rom, then it will fail, because it will reset your spl and then try to flash the rom, but of course it will check the region and vendor id and get a missmatch.
i would do it like this.....(no need for sd card flashing at all, that's old news)
run hspl2, make sure you have hspl installed, run the wwe file in your last post over usb, when its flashed, rerun hspl2 and choose 1.42.0000 and you're ready to send it back.
thanks for your reply, samsamuel!
unfortunately, running hspl2 seems to do nothing. I have 1.42.HSPL already installed, and I tried choosing 1.42.0000, it says it's succesfull, but my bootloader still displays 1.42.HSPL.
When trying to run the WWE, it gets stuck at 0% for 10-15 minutes, then says that the connectivity is poor.

that sounds like a usb timeout problem.
Boot to bootloader manually, and when 'serial' turns to 'usb' on screen, then run hspl2. Keep trying this with all your different USB ports. (USB ports around back of the PC generally work better than ports in the front.)
Just tried both the WWE and task29 through all of my laptop's ports, and I get the same result: it won't go over 0% whatever I do.
I don't understand... each of the USB ports on my laptop recognized my HD2 and successfully installed the driver in less than 10 seconds after connecting it... What could be wrong?
Honestly, I was thinking of putting it in the microwave oven for 3 or 4 seconds, just enough so the CPU gets fried, then get it to a service center and complain about how it stopped working all of a sudden...
you did try simply removing the sim & sd card and battery, reinstalling the battery, holding both volume up & down simultaneously and depressing and holding the phone disconnect button to do a hard reset, right? I just didn't see that in previous posts and figured that should be near the beginning.

Possibly bricked HD2, please help.

Hey, so I have an HD2 that was flashed badly. No problem, enter bootloader, reflash, right?
Strangely enough, it was acting strangely, and would freeze while in bootloader mode (plug in, nothing would recognize it, plug out and USB is still on the screen).
I pull the battery, try again, and get to flashing the Radio, it stops at 96%, and then fails. Try to do the recovery, but when I restart it, I a triangle with an exlamation mark (!), and I can't enter bootloader.
So, is that it...?
Oook, so I got into bootloader, flashed the HardSPL ver to 2, trying to flash the radio again, and it's not moving at 0%...
I'm having a similar issue. I have cotulla's HSPL 2.08 and I cannot flash ANY rom, no stock t-mobile, no android, nothing! Someone please help us! I would hate to see our HD2's go in the drawer and be forgotten

No, I installed that update when it came out, seemed to make the phone worse so I went back to 2.13

a friend was doing similar ...
he upgraded to cotulla's HSPL 2.08 no problem, but when updating to most recent radio to allow him to play with putty or energy it froze at 96% and now just boots to ! screen
will not acknowledge attempts to SDcard flash, and his attempt to flash with latest stock HTC rom fails at random spots between 1% and 45%
going to grab an old stock rom and try voldown/power into tricolor and downgrade I guess
may have had some success ... seems his sdcard was formatted as FAT not FAT32 (doh!)
put duttys latest on the card and sd flashed that no problems, then put latest radio on card and sd flashed that, made it to 100% but 10 mins later and radio flash attempt still sitting at 'update in progress' with bar at 100%
guess I'll try with HTC stock via sd now
no joy there either ... hangs after attempting to flash the first radio portion
RESULT! seems the root cause was cotulla's HSPL 2.08
Ran HSPL_2 went back to 1.66-HSPL
then installed stock 1.48.405.2 which flashed completely and cleanly
phew
hd2 died help!
i accidentaly flashed an incorrect radio rom and thats where my problem started. although it still vibrates continusly once i put the battery back but im not sure if i can revive this. please help me out.
I managed to flash the latest radio successfully with 1.66-HSPL in place.
I just bullheadedly continually kept reattempting to sdcard flash just the latest radio, maybe 15-20x it either locked or gave me RSA errors.
Just before I was about to fling it into the fireplace, it just *worked* for no apparent reason ...
Just whacked Dutty's latest on there, and now happily looking at the 'tap next to begin screen'

Bricked? Stuck at gray loading screen

I've been hacking/modding/flashing for years with numerous devices and have never been this far down this path...I searched around and haven't found an answer or the same situation so I'm sorry if I overlooked a similar thread.
I've been running WP7 on my HD2 for a few months after running Android from the SD and NAND for a few months before that. Yesterday my touchscreen started getting VERY difficult to use, with it being both innacurate and unresponsive. It got progressively worse so this morning I reflashed the WP7 ROM without any problems. Even after that it continued getting worse to the point where the phone was unusable because the touchscreen would not respond to anything so I couldn't unlock the phone. The hardware keys worked fine. So I decided I would try to go back to WM6.5 in an attempt to isolate whether it was software or hardware. I'm on my work computer so it doesn't have the proper drivers for flashing, so I formated my SD card, put a TMO-US WM6.5 build on the root of the card, renamed it LEOIMG.nbh and put it back in.
I booted to the tri-color screen, pressed power to confirm the flash. It flashed the progress bar and then went to the loading screen. It stayed there for around 30 minutes so I pulled the battery out and attempted to try again, but then a screen comes up for a half second that says "Software update Failed! Please Try Again" and then it goes back to the loading screen. If I try to go back to the Tri-color screen it shows it for a second and says "ROM code error Please try again" then returns to the loading screen. Anybody have any advice? Anybody seen this before?
Got a full filename for the rom you flashed?
In bootloader what's the full spl line say?
What size SD card? The stock tmous one?
wow.. unless some how the flash to wm conflicted with magldr that should had worked...
When you start the phone holding down the volume key... Do you have the SDcard still in it and it just kicks you out of the bootloader? Technically ad long as the boot loader shows up it should be fixable but it kicks you out.. that a problem

This is the ROM I was flashing on the SD:
RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.10.531.1_Radio_Signed_15.34.50.07U_2.08.50.08_2_Ship.zip
I got it from here:

The bootloader says 2.08.0000 then MicroP something. It just flashes so it is hard to read too fast.
I am using an 8GB Class 4 card. I also tried it with the stock 16GB one but it did the same thing. When I tried flashing it, however, it was the 8GB card.

That's what I'm gathering as well. In my experience I've never been afraid of bricking because I've always been able to get to the bootloader. In this case, I can get to it, but it won't let me stay in it.
I finally got the phone to stay in bootloader mode, however when I try to flash any ROM, whether Task29, radio, stock, or cooked 6.5 it goes through the ROM Update Utility steps and then it stops at 0% for a few minutes before giving me an update communication error. This is what the Bootloader says:
PB81120 SS-B3
SPL-2.08.0000 8G XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x50
Upgrade ROM code error
Please Try Again
Thanks again for the help.
YOU donT have HSPL... Thats why flashing a cooked rom isnt working aswell ad everything else... flash a stock rom to get it up and running
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Yep, there's the problem. Any spl ending. 0000 is stock, you have 2.08.0000, you actually need 2.08.hspl.
Don't feel too silly though, its the most basic error there is, but still turns up daily.
When you flash a stock Rom from the SDCard it removes the HSPL... So you can try flashing a Stock ROM to see if the screen issues continue or put HSPL back on and flash something to it
also, what size is your SD card? Quite often, SD Cards over 2GB in size fail for rom updates via the SD Card method.
You could also go here: http://psas.revskills.de/?q=node/ and download the free version.
Run The program and select:
Menu-Hardware forensics-WINCE SD Utils and get your card serial number. (needs a windows mobile phone connected via activesync to the pc (with the card in it) to work though)'
Once you get the code, PM it to me and I will make a goldcard.img for you.
That way you can flash any rom without having hspl on the phone.
Again, this will only work with a card under 4gb. 1 or 2gb is recommended.

HD2 kinda broken what can i do?

Hey XDA
Hope someone out there have got some good advice. We have some HD2s where i work and i have been sent one that is acting kinda weird.
I simply can not get it to flash a rom (_HTC HD2_RUU_Leo_S_HTC_DAN_3.14.403.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship) - we only use normal HTC roms. When i try to flash it nothing happens, it boots into the bootloader and just sits there at 0% until i disconnect the cable, if i dont it will sit there untill it runs out of battery. Tried a few times now and same result.
i have also just tried a restore, to see if its the internal flash rom that is broken and the restore also fails. My own HD2 restores in like a few seconds but this one just sits there again, like when i try to flash a rom to it.
So is it totally dead or is there something i should try?
Have you tried to use task29 (via computer) , then flash (via nbh) the htc rom?
hmm just tried task29 and it did nothing, it booted the phone to the bootloader but no progress screen did show up. Tried it again and the phone just shut off again after showing the bootloader for a few seconds.
beginning to think this phone is toast.
Gonna try a HSPL update later and just flash a non HTC rom to see if that works.

HSPL 2.08 & reflash original HTC ROM via PC USB.
Do you get any error codes from the flash utility ?
could be CID related but you should see error code.
Yes, trying it with HSPL seems like a good idea to me, too.
Because then you can also try other ROMs.
will try this stuff on monday - i just cba to do more work today
thx for the advice
Build a gold-card and flash from the SD slot. If that doesn't work, put it in a zip lock bag and then into the freezer for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, boot the phone and try flashing again immediately in it's chilled state. If it get's ANY further, you have a bad overheating NAND and need a new main board.
got HSPL2.08 flashed and a Dutty 3.14 rom but phone refuses to reboot sometimes and boot just shows the white HTC background and does not show the radio/os versions in the bottom. So i am just gonna toss this one out, since its can not be serviced (supplier has gone bust).
But still havn't gotten any error codes from the phone or flash programs, other then "USB connection failed". So i think its nand is kinda broken now.

got HSPL2.08 flashed and a Dutty 3.14[/COLOR] rom but phone refuses to reboot sometimes and boot just shows the white HTC background and does not show the radio/os versions((edit - the RGD screen)) in the bottom.

first, you can't run 3.14 roms on anything except spl 3.03.0000 or 3.03.hspl
Second it isn't booting because it almost certainly needs an updated radio, 2.15.50 for instance. You probably still have a 2.xx.51 from the original stock, and so wont show rgd screen till you change radio, won't run smoothly till you correct the spl with hspl4

Put phone into bootloader manually, don't use front mounted USB ports, be sure and update win mo dev center to latest ver ..... all the usual USB connection error advice. Trying another PC with a different windows variant often helps if its available.

hmm you sure? The dutty download page says -
Things to Know how about my ROMs:
* Radio 2.15 Recommended
* HSPL 2.08 Recommended
* HSPL 3.03 doesn't support 576 RAM enabled
But i'll try to flash a 3.03HSPL and find out what happens. I did flash 2.15.50.14 radio before i flashed the Dutty rom. But gonna give it one last try.

Have tried two pc's now, both running Win7 32bit - its all we have now.
Ahhh gitcha, then the dutty rom mustnt be 100% 3.14 rom (I didn't check) it must use a 2.x base to enable 576ram.
In which case, if stock roms don't flash but custom did, it could be stuck radio syndrome, which you can test for with (correct, get it using your serial from HTC.com) stock rom flash from sd card (4gb or smaller, fat32). Look out for "rsa radio fail" or similar on screen.
Edit, oh you said you flashed a radio, and that went ok?

yeah HSPL2.08, HSPL3.03 and Radio is flashing just fine. The roms i have tried also flashes perfect its just will not boot afterwards. I can usually do a hardreset on it and it will boot one time. If you then shut it off and try to turn it on again it fails with the white HTC screen again.
I am toally clueless on what is wrong with it, so gonna try to figure out if we have some kind of warrenty left on it and get it switched over to another one.
