Phone Keeps Rebooting - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hi, I am having a problem where my phone is stuck in a rebooting cycle. When I power it up I get the T-Mobile screen (btw is there a way to get rid of that?) and then the 1,2,3,4... screen. Then the screen goes blank and reboots and the same thing happens again and again...
I had flashed it to WM7 so I was thinking that might be the problem. I wanted to load the stock ROM anyways but I'm not sure how I can do that now with the problem I having.
I tried powering it up while holding the volume down button. I get to the red, blue, green screen but my XP system doesn't detect the phone. Activesync doesn't recognize it either.
When reading how to flash it back to stock ROM, I remember one site said that it doesn't matter if it doesn't sync the utility would still be able to flash it back to stock. I want to make sure though so I don't brick the phone.
Any help would be appreciated.

yes it should still work. theres only been one computer ive used to flash (android or wp7) that recognized my leo and it has been successful. SOMETIMES ive gotten an error about halfway through the process but i just restarted and it went off beautifully.
flashing back stock rom ive never had ANY problems PERIOD and phone was never detected. good luck

yes, look up changing the splashscreen. you flash them just like flashing winmo roms and radios.
and then the 1,2,3,4... screen. Then the screen goes blank and reboots and the same thing happens again and again...

this type of bootloop, so early into teh boot sequence, (especially if the phone is stable when in bootloader) is very often a bent/broken/not connecting battery connector.

activesync never does in bootloader. the instructions to get an activesync connection' doesnt mean activesync teh program, it means 'get a usb connection to your computer', , if it says usb in the white area of bootloader you are good to go.

Thanks for all of the advice. I was unable to get it to flash properly. I started the process and a progress bar showed up on the phone but then at 1% I got an error on the PC saying that a connection cannot be established with the phone.
I then tried the SD card method (copying RUU_signed.nbh to an SD card after renaming it to leoimg.nbh), but it seems to have made it worse. I started up the phone in bootloader with this file on the sd card and it started the flashing process. A couple of minutes later it stopped with this showing up on the screen:

Please help. I don't know what to do. This is getting very frustrating.

I also experienced the reboot loop,
I used another SD card and that solved it.
only problem is, now I have a fukked up microSD card, and I have not found a device that is able to format it.

When my phone goes into a boot loop (i.e., powers up, shows boot screen, gets past MAGDLR, goes to the loading screen, then reboots), I only need to connect it to a wall-plug to charge it and voila, it starts for me.
I have no idea why this is the case, it is very random if and when it goes into a boot loop. But I've heard that most reboots are related to the SD cards.
One solution you can try is to fill up the SD-card. Fill it up to say 30 ~ 40 % full of stuff? Apparently, this will give you some luck in filling up the sectors of the card that aren't "sufficiently" fast enough for WP7 that might be causing the reboot. I did that for mine and it drastically cut down on the rate of how often it rebooted. Now it's once every few days whereas it used to be a few reboots in a single day.

Sorry to bump this old thread but things came up and I didn't get a chance to try to resolve this and I sort of forgot about it.
I now have been trying to fix it again using some of the suggestions here but the phone is acting funny. When I first tried to power it up nothing happened. I figured because it had been sitting so long, so I plugged it in to the charger. As soon as I did the phone powered up without me pressing anything. Then the red, green, blue, and white screen that looked like this:

popped up on the screen and then it immediately went to a gray screen that said "loading...." It was stuck on this so I removed the battery. When I inserted the battery back in and powered it up the camera flash went off and it vibrated continuously. The same thing happened a second time when I tried. I thought I would let the battery charge overnight, so I plugged it into the charger. The charging light never came on but I thought I would see anyways.
When I checked on it in the morning, the screen was lit up gray but there was nothing else. I took out the battery, popped it back in but the phone wouldn't turn on. I took out the battery and let it sit for about 15 mins. I put it back in but it wouldn't power up if I pressed the power button. I held the volume down button and pressed the power button and the same thing happened with the red, green, blue, and white RUUNBH screen coming up and then it immediately goes to "loading..."
I took out the battery to power it down and tried again, but nothing happened. Again, I took out the battery and let it sit for 15 mins. but this time I also removed SD card. Now when I hold Volume down and press power and the RUUNBH screen comes up:

I then plugged it into the computer through USB and the "Serial" on the screen changed to "USB" and in device manager it shows up as Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM.
I want to try getting it back to stock but because of the things mentioned above, I am afraid of screwing it up even more beyond repair. I am a novice so terms like HSPL and radio is a bit confusing to me. Thanks in advance.

Bump. I went on the HTC website to see if I could find the appropriate ROM. I entered my IMEI number and it directed me to download Version 2.13.531.1
It seems like this is a different version than what is showing up on my phone right now.
I'm not sure how I should proceed and doing a search I find differing advice. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks dxdy. I edited my post; I'm not sure if that changes anything. I ideally I would like to eventually use this phone with WP7 but I thought I would need to get back to stock W6.5. Can I follow the WP7 tutorial even given the state my phone is in?

if you want back to stock wm6.5 only need to flash stock ROM...

maybe you can try the mtty to erase it

Phone stuck at white screen with HTC

Hi there,
I really need help!
I wanted to flash my phone with a nbh file, but I could not enter my bootloader.
I had installed HSPL3.
Now someone told me to use Flashaholic ROM update utility.
I did this, and a black screen with a % indicator appeared, not too long, it restarted, and went into a white screen with htc in the middle.
Restarting with volume down button pushed doesnt bring me into bootloader.
What can I do now?
I really need help!
Unfortunately, if you can't get your HD2 to boot into the bootloader, there's not much to be done.
Are you sure you had HSPL installed? Because from what I have heard, HSPL is there to always allow you to use it for flashing stuff, regardless of the integrity of other software parts such as the radio or the ROM, so reaching the bootloader should not be a problem for anyone.
Can you connect it to your PC via USB? If you manage to get a connection, you might just have a chance to flash another radio/ROM.

I installed HSPL3, and it said it was succesfull so...
After that I installed a custom rom with an utility that came with it (Dutty's)
So far I know, I cannot get any connection, but I try to download a stock rom (an utility exe) from HTC.com.
But I think this won't work right? because you have to sync.
You could try and flash a stock ROM via the SD Card, see if that works. There are some instructions here on XDA in the ROM Development section, check it out there.
Basically, once you have downloaded an official ROM from htc.com, extract it as if it were an archive and get the ruu_signed.nbh. Rename it to LEOIMG.nbh. Then take your SD Card, format it to FAT32, place the LEOIMG.nbh on the card and put it in your phone. While holding down the volume down button, boot the phone and a white Loading... screen should appear and the flashing process should begin.
I`m afraid this won't work either, as the bootloader is supposed to show up in order for you to be able to flash anything, but it's better than doing nothing, so...

Hi, if I remember correctly, you already said in the Artemis-thread, that the VOL DOWN button is broken. If this is the case, I fear there is not much you can do...
Have the same problem too.
I've installed a few roms with no worries, tried one about an hour ago that performs a Task 29 and i'm also now stuck at the white HTC screen...
it says the task29 was succesfull and then got stuck on the white HTC screen and the rom failed to load as the laptop did not detect a usb connection...
I've downloaded a stock rom and put it on the SD card named LEOIMG.nbh and tried pressing the vol down button, the Red,green, blue, white screen appears i can see
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL 2.08.Hspl 8g XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x30
Then "serial" at the bottom or if i have the phone connected to the pc then "USB" appears.
If i hold both buttons and perform a Hard reset the phone asks to press Vol up button then says restored really quickly then freezes at the white HTC screen..
Any suggestions
Cheers
Actually got it sorted now, the rom had the Flashaholic utility built in which i haven't used before.
As we speak the rom is now installing phew (stop sweating now)...
Thought i had bricked it...

It's not broken, it just worked before I did the task29.
The phone is empty, and has no bootloader, and no ROM.

task29 DELETES the ROM. You NEED to install a ROM. A Radio-ROM should be installed automatically with task29. If this isn't the case, you need to install a Radio-ROM too. You can either install the HTC ROM or you can install a custom ROM like forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612580
Suggestion: Enter bootloader -> connect USB -> install ROM with CustomRUU

Well im not able to.
I did a HSPL before then I putted a custom ROM Dutty's on the device.
After that I putten a Stock ROM on it again, and then I used Flashaholic, and after task29 it got stuck.
Well no bootloader means no HSPL which is good news for your warranty coverage..
Just go to HTC service and play dumb " uhm i was playing around websites with a flash game and uhm my phone uhm rebooted and is like stuck ever since in uhm HTC logo"
Now if the case for not being able to load the bootloader is a broken volumedown button, yeah ur pretty screwed, prepare to dive in ur wallet.
Were do you live? If you need help and there's one living nereby maybe we can help (p.e. a full battery) I live in the eastern part of the Netherlands (Overijssel) PM me if you can come.
On the Kaiser (my previous phone) I also had a problem I couldn't enter the bootloader anymore, but I can't remember why or what I did to recover it.
- If it was an allmost empty battery and recharged it?
- If I have used a special tool to connect?
I really can't remember.
If I read your story, I think you have loaded a corrupted NBH thru SDCard method, otherwise i think you cannot wipe your bootloader. Task29 only wipes the ROM area not the bootloader.
Have you tried to contact Bepe or Cotulla, cause i think they know everything about (H)SPL.
Otherwise you can start building a new house (you've got your first brick )
have you checked you battery connections, the middle one is notorious for getting bent out of shape at which point the battery will not charge and you can't flash you ROM.

[Q] stuck at sticking, of course...

Got my nephew's HD2, it's stuck at the stick together screen. I believe he had the second to last stock ROM, not the most recent. I can get into the boot loader and SPL is 2.10. I was able to flash the latest stock rom 3.14 from via usb but no luck. I get Update complete, Update success when I flash via sd card, but still no luck. When I attempt to Task it, it gets about 19% and says "image file is corrupted, Please check you update utility" and "Error [270] : update error" and the phone reboots. I'm gonna try to flash hspl3 and an energy rom and see if it'll come back..what else should I be doing? I heard I had to wait 10 min after I get success when I flash via sd before I manually reboot, is this true? thanks...

In order to flash from SD you need HSPL, I would slap hspl3 on there and then flash the stock ROM of your choice.. and if you dont want HSPL to stay, you can flash the stock Rom from SD and it will overwrite HSPL with the SPL for that Rom.
Ok, so I flashed HSPL 3, then flashed the latest energy Rom but had no luck with that, just hung at the boot screen. So I then flashed the stock ROM again from the SD card and no luck again. I'm starting to think there is a hardware problem. He told me before the battery got "really hot" before it crashed. Also, with the original "dead" battery in, when i plug it in to a charger, I get no charge light, but the phone comes on immediately without me pressing anything and hangs at the stick together screen. Battery pins are ok, compared to mine, not interested in trying his battery in my phone.
im having the same issue, im beginning to think its an internal memory issue because it will inconsistently flash sometimes hanging on 74% or 12% error out, then with nothing changed it will take the entire flash and just not boot with an energy rom it will however vibrate 7 times when stuck on the flash screen of the energy rom
Ok guys try doin this real quick..
First post what your bootloader shows.
Then remove SD and Sim.
Then, enter bootloader again, sync to PC and perform task29 followed by a hard reset.
Now try flashing stock 2.13 ROM (from bootloader)
-If that doesn't work try removing hspl and then flash stock.
no dice flashing task29, i flashed then hard reset then tried to flash energy, it still hangs on random install %'s...redid the task29 and tried stock no dice, removed hspl and tried stock but wont even get past 0%
this phone was screwed from jump street though, stock original rom froze right out of the box...im thinking corrupt internal memory
well right now my bootloader says:
PB81120 MFG SS-B3
SPL-2.00.1000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x50
but that's because I just tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668347
so gonna bring it back to current factory ROM in just a min and then see. I can flash whatever ROM, SPL, or HSPL I want just wont get past boot screen regardless. I can even task 29 with HSPL3. Not sure what else? maybe the order of steps I'm taking.
Edit: well I could flash back and forth tried using HSPL3 with 2.00 support and get critical error so prolly dead for sure now...glad it aint mine RIP HD2, still happily take any suggestions on getting it running again tho...and thanks again for the help...maybe a goldcard? but i'm not quite sure how that works...
Okay, finally made it back to latest factory ROM 3.14 from SD card, so now I'm back to SPL-2.10.0000
but still no boot....not sure what to do...
im having similiar issues with it not booting, i think i have a hardware issue as well.. but this seems to do the trick for me when tryin to boot..
if flashing is successful but you are stuck at the "stick together" screen (with or without the 3 version numbers in the bottom left corner), do these steps:
1. take out the battery
2. wait AT LEAST 5 minutes before putting the battery back in (some have reported waiting 10 minutes minimum)
3. put the battery back in and turn the phone on
4. phone should boot up into windows within 2 minutes.
5. If it doesn't boot (within 5 minutes), repeat steps 1 through 4. (sometimes for me it takes 2 rounds of this for it to boot)
i'm not sure how the internal memory works, but I would sure like to know.
it seems the battery needs to be removed for a few minutes to "erase/empty" out the internal memory data (possibly corrupt data). It is possible my hardware causes some internal memory corruption, because when the phone boots, it works perfectly until some 'random' system crash occurs.
Oh, So I tried to load up a stock T-mobile ROM and it wouldnt load. I used VBNROM reloaded 2 (the ROM stripped down for Android use), loaded up first try.. which makes me wonder if its a particular sector on the internal flash memory that is corrupt?
The order I used entering into bootloader before each step (with phone off, hold down vol down button while plugging in USB cable thats connected to PC)
1. HSPL3
2. task29 (make sure microsd card and SIM card are NOT inserted)
phone is off. unplug sync cable.
3. insert microSD card that has the VBN rom correctly renamed leoimg.nbh for memory card flashing.
4. hold vol down button and power on. keep holding the vol down button until you pass the tri color screen into a gray color screen that says "loading..." then release the vol down button, follow the instructions to flash from memory card.
5. once successfully updated, take the battery out for 5 minutes, take out the SD card.
6. replace the battery, and turn the phone on.
7. phone should go to "stick together" screen, then show the red numbers in bottom left corner, then show a black screen with animation "clarity" text. Once you see that you know it will work
try that and tell me if that works for you to boot. if it does, then there must be a internal memory issue. (this rom is only 75 megs!)
EXTRA NOTES:
- it's possibly SIM card related too.. Phone had sim card and sd card with vbnrom successfully installed. i had loaded up android successfully, then shut down the phone. I tried to boot the phone again, but the phone went pass the 'stick together screen' then to a black screen and restart it self, then stayed at the stick together screen. This was remedied by taking the SIm card out, and trying again.
- with SIM card not inserted and phone successfully in windows mobile, put phone into flight mode, turn off phone, insert SIM, turn phone on. THis booted the phone for me.

Just for kicks, try to remove the SIM and SD Cards to see if they change anything.
Also, if the above post works, you can install Android on your SD Card and you will still have a working phone? Better than a paper weight...
nothing regardless sim or sd is in or out just Stick Together and no red numbers...Gonna leave the battery out for a while and see but not holding out much hope..just don't get why i can get to the bootloader no prob and flash whatever, task it but the os won't boot...
Okay, with no sd or sim inside the phone, I flashed HSPL3, Task 29, then Radio 2.10.50.26 (same one that's on my hd2), then VBNROM, Hard reset and.. everything went surprisingly smooth but still not booting.. gonna leave the battery out for a while but it was dead when I got it sooo...we'll see..I did that all via USB, would it make a difference if I used SD card for each step? idk..

when phone is off, can you charge the battery? (orange charging LED)
it's good idea to have full battery while flashing and all this booting nonsense
when it's stuck on Stick Together and i plug the charger in, i do not get the orange led but, i do believe the battery is charging. when i got it, it would not even come on with that battery. after leaving it pugged in like that for a while it came on reliably. could a low batt. cause this type of problem?when i started working with this phone i was using my fully charged batt. and having same results. been using his batt. since it charged. could his battery be good or bad? the only way to tell for sure is to put his batt. in my phone and see if its charging. should i be concerned about his batt. damaging my phone? the owner seems to think the battery caused his problems cause it got "very hot" before it stopped working.is no led a sign of a hardware problem?

from my experiences, i know the phone is charging when: 1. phone is off with battery inserted, 2. plug in charger, 3. wait for orange charging LED light to come on.
when you plug in the charger while it's stuck on the "stick together" screen, no light will come on, and I don't think it's charging when this occurs.
It's charging alright. Took the battery out of the dead hd2 and put it in mine. It was pretty low 3% or something. Took it out put it back in the dead hd2, plugged it into wall charger. Phone came on by itself and froze at stick together screen and NO orange LED. I left it like that and watched a movie. Then took the battery out of the dead hd2 and put it back in mine. Now says 66%...gotta say it's charging.

well right now my bootloader says:

I'm sorry bud, but you have yourself and MFG SPL. I started a thread a while ago HERE, and I believe they've found a solution (post 2)

you may be right tho. Although it's charging, no LED may mean hardware failure of some sort.

i was able to get my SPL back to 2.10 here's how i did it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9451339&postcount=157
but still stuck, won't boot
I wonder if a manual MTTY Task29 would be any different? Would it be more thorough?
Along the lines of a SMALL ROM maybe flashing due to higher memory space corrupted, you might try my SUPER Ultra Lite ROM and see if that boots. (45MB Small)

HD boot screen issue hardware problem?

Hello and good morning
I have a issue with my HD2
i get to the boot screen right now it says this
PB81100 HX-B3
SPL-3.03 HPSL XE
0x05
Cotulla HPSL 0x50
i have even try to go back to SPL 2.08 also.
i do a boot screen to try to restore stock rom but it won't work.
i have installed MAGLDR111 on it and 113
When it turns on it goes in a Dexter loading please wait and sits there forever. i even left it there for half an hour once and nothing
When i go to SPL2.08 to boot stock rom it goes into effect it starts the process but it gets stuck at 3%
7% and the maximum i can get is 8%
Try it on two computers and is the same.
Even some custom roms.
LDR
If i hold the power button for the MAGLDR it goes into a black screen with the letter on top but no menu to scroll down to anything.
Can someone tell me if this a hardware issue and i should give up?
i got this phone like this from Ebay with booting up to the boot screen only.
i thought i was going to be able to flash it myself cause i done it before on other hd2
but this one is really giving me a hard time
I just try it again and I get 302 error
I hope someone can help me out. ifnot i will have to give up on it.
Hm you need to try to flash an original Windows 6.5 rom to restore your SPL and RADIO. Also check what kind of SD card do you have. Sometimes it fails with some.
i don't have a SD card in it im trying to flash it from boot mode usb
And i have try installing the original rom from tmobile.
but it keeps getting only to 8% and it gets stuck.
im at the point that now i think there is something wrong with the hardware.

And change hspl from bootloader can?
Try to touch versions hspl and to stitch original ROM.
p.s. It would be certainly easier, if was available sd, but alas... Absence sd complicates a problem.

[Q] Need help to reset the device to factory default

Hi everyone,
I'm totally lost with the HD2 my brother didn't want any more. I think he installed an android os but it couldn't launch or function correctly so I tried to have it back to his original state.
I tried the hard reset but it didn't work, the phone didn't launch.
I used the Task29, it worked and cleaned the phone. Then I tried to install the official rom 3.14 found on the htc support's page. The loading get stuck at 1% and stop to move until I get the 262 error.
I read a bit and try to understand how all of this work but I still don't get it. I tried the older version of the official rom, it worked a bit better since now the loading bar get stuck at 6 or 8 % randomly.
So now when I power on the phone it says : "Software update failed! Please try again" which I tried all yesterday long.
When I hold volume down and power on what I get on the red green blue white screen is this :
RUUNBH
PB81100 SS-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x50
Upgrade ROM code error
Please try again
I don't know what to do to resolve my situation. I'll be grateful for any help or hints you can give me.
Looks like you are trying via USB.
You could have a corrupt nand in a wrong area or some sort of hardware error.
Just to eliminate hardware, re-download the 3.14 ROM (in case you got a corrupt file)
and extract it, put the NBH file on the root of your SD card and make sure it's called leoimg.nbh disconnect from your PC and boot into bootloader and flash from SD
btw this is a tmobile phone right?

Hello Maywiki,
task29 doesn't delete HSPL, that causes your troubles. May I cite from HSPL4 by Dark Forces Team:
"5) Uninstallation
Only way to remove the HSPL is to flash an original SPL from SD card.
- Take any "RUU_signed.nbh" from a ship ROM and copy it to SD card.
- Rename it to "leoimg.nbh"
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button."
Be sure your battery is charged.
For future flashing experiences I advice you to not only "read a bit" but digging deep into it - and then re-read again.
Have fun

task29 did not cause any of his issues, after he did taask29 he tried to do what you say and flash the stock ROM but it hangs on the flash.
At no time from the bootloader should a flash just stick like that. I personally think it's a hardware failure, bad nand or something, or even a bricked radio if it keeps hanging near 1%, but you never know, the ROM he's using might be corrupt.
I still suggest you download the ROM again, put the .nbh file on your sd card like stated above and try a flash from SD.
If that fails maybe you can try to flash a custom ROM that does not include a radio and if that flashes we know we cannot flash a radio because that is what is hanging the flash.
Thanks for all your replies.
Yes I try via usb.

Nope, it was bought in Belgium and it's not tied to an operator.
That's the name of the file I downloaded from the htc site : RUU_Leo_S_HTC_FRA_3.14.406.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship
The problem is that I can't access the sd card. The pc knows that an htc device is connected but I can't acces the device (it doesn't show up anywhere) and the sd card. The windows mobile app doesn't find a device connected too. Could it work if I pass via another phone to put the file on the sd card ?

thats bad, 8/9 is the time the radio is being flashed, and is a primary indicator of a stuck radio (which also covers stuck spl, , corrupt spl/radio/bootloader basically)
The first time, the 1% hang, is the point where a stock rom tries unsucessfully to flash the spl for the first time, either triggering teh corruption, or the first time a flash has been attempted and so teh first time bootloader notices it's corrupted, (hence the RUUNBH at teh top of bootloader, it has tried to start flashing, and encountered an error, and not dropped out of flashing mode, as you would expect for a normal failed flash)
From here on, chances are you will either
1-never get anything to flash
2-possibly get winmo custom roms (no radio, see) to flash but nothing else
3-things like task29 and hspl appear to flash, but nothing changes
try No 2 first, and then try the freezer trick, chill teh phone right down, and have an sd card ready with the leoimg.nbh ready on it ready to flash as soon as you take it out of teh freezer.
Just occasionally, people get past this type of error, probably meaning the issue was corrupt software, but usually there is no fix (except JTAG, and even that isn't always successful) possibly meaning hardware corruption of a critical area of nand.
Also, if it DOES work in the freezer, that probably means you have an overheating device.

yes, any method you like to copy the leoimg.nbh to the sd card is fine.

Yeah exactly where I was going with this.
Use a USB SD card reader thing to put it on SD card, or even another phone if you have to.
Try a custom ROM maybe.
If you are running 2.15.00 you don't need to flash another radio anyways, and since you have HSPL you don't need another SPL either, so you're not quite as screwed as some others even if you've got a bad radio/no flash situation.
So I did what you said (except put the phone in the freezer).
The installation went ok. Once finished it said nothing so I guessed I had to restart the phone.
Now the phone gets stuck in a white screen with htc in green on it.
Did I make something wrong ?

No, either your flashed task29 then no rom or it's not loading the ROM,
try the SD flash again with the CORRECT rom and see what happens.

I tried again with the 3.14.406.2 from the support site, the update goes without a problem :
RADIO_V2 - OK
RCUST - OK
BOOTLOADER - OK
SPLASH1 - OK
OS - OK
CONFIGDATA - OK
RUU_WALLPAPER1 - OK
RUU_WALLPAPER2_ OK
Update Complete
UPDATE SUCCESS
When I reset, the phone vibrate seven times and stay on the white page with the htc logo on it.
What do I have to do now ? Try another rom ?
Hmmm, radio_v2 OK, ,, that's unexpected, but doesn't necessarily change anything.. .
Give the freezer trick a few goes.

Sounds like your chip is overheating, not good. You need a main board replacement or maybe this:

Is it permanent or it will need to be done frequently ?

The trick works because your chip is overheating. This is a common HD2 problem. When you freeze the phone the chip cools enough to boot the OS, and it may run fine for a few minutes. Play a video or do anything that heats up the processor at all and it will reboot and get stuck on bootloader again. It is a hardware issue that can only be solved by one of the methods I mentioned above.

Reflash Rom

A friend gave me his non-working HD2 to try fix. It would only boot to a white screen (no HTC logo). I was able to get to the multicoloured screen by pressing the vol down + power button. I tried flashing the latest RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship rom via USB but repeatedly it got as far as 1% then gave me an error 270 message. I then extracted the image, copied it an sd card and tried to install from the card. It seemed to go ok until it stopped at 4% then rebooted. I now get as far as a white screen plus HTC logo but no further. Any attempt to flash another rom from the sd card gives an error 00028002 'not allowed' then I get the multicoloured screen but the SPL has changed to 3.03.0000 from I think 2.08 but I can't be certain. Perhaps with hindsight I should have written down what the old screen said!
Any ideas to rescue the situation willingly accepted.
Thanks,
Geoff.
With SPL being stock, you don't have many options. You can try flashing HSPL and then stock winmo/other OS. Or you can try to flash original stock through SD.
By the way, if the device was originally broken because of an overheating issue, you might have to cool the device before attempting to flash anything.
Good luck.

the first thing to happen when you sd card flash a stock rom, is that hspl gets removed, or if it isnt present, teh stock spl gets updated to teh one contained in teh new rom. Then the phone reboots into the new bootloader, and flashing starts.
What happened to you is it removed hspl, rebooted, and the fresh 3.03.0000 detected that the rom region/carrier doesnt match the phones region/carrier, and so failed.
That being said, teh fact that it wouldnt flash over usb is worrying, im leaning towards a faulty phone, but its early days yet.
Try setting hspl again, hspl4, set 3.03.hspl (not .0000) and try flash the rom you listed again, over usb, and report back.

I've got a very similar problem to this. My phone only boots to a blank white screen. When I hold the volume down button when turning it on, I can get to the bootloader.
From there, sometimes I can set 3.03 hspl, but most of the time the phone freezes at 0%. If I try to flash a stock rom, it stays frozen at 0%. If any of these updates work, then it still only boots to the HTC logo on the white screen.
I'm trying to flash via USB, could this be a faulty phone? I wonder what could be faulty?

yea sounds like it, lots of reports of exactly this, some kind of hardware probably, though JTAG may help.
