What is wrong with your device? The reason I ask is because a lot of times tmobile doesn't look for rooting, just put a rom on there that looks stock

The power button stopped working.

Also, how do i go back to stock loader and delete CWM?

I got my first call the other day where the customer was very angry that they were hit with the out of warranty fee because of a rooted phone. He did admit to it being rooted but claimed ignorance to it voiding the warranty. It cost him quite a bit. I'd definitely try to go with a stock ROM before sending it in. Last thing you want is them to start it up and get something like the Cyanogenmod bootup screen and then get hit with the OOW fee.

You could actually flash one of the official tmous updates that would remove root as well. If you have s-off then its a whole new game. I would suggest trying the gfree method of unrooting and getting s-on, otherwise I can give you a command to type in terminal emulator that will 100% brick your phone where it won't turn on or charge. It destroys the emmc chip though, but you should get a new one anyway

Hahaha! My bad, for some reason I tought you were running a G2, lol. I don't thing gfree works for the mt4g, lol. But the command will, find out what partition your hboot is at and I'll give you the command. I'm at work and only have my phone on me
Edit: it's partition 18 on the g2 might be the same but I doubt it

I will indeed, one second. I want it to be known that once this script is enterd the phone is an unrecoverable brick, there is NO KNOWN WAY to recover once this is done. Everyone ok with that?
Sent from my shiny metal G2 w/ meXdroid V3

Ok guys here is the commands, do it in terminal emulator if possible, or use adb shell if this is not possible. There is NO COMING BACK once its done ok?
In terminal emulator or adb shell type:
$ su
# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
#sync
#reboot
...... and you have yourself a 100% unrecoverable brick!
Edit: it is partition number 18, the code has been updated. Again, careful with this as the partition will be corrupted and will not take a new hboot.

Ok everyone, the post with the code has been updated. Have at it, and happy flashing

I would also like to know, as I now have a locked bootloader and would like to get a replacement
*edit* duh its right above my post, my bad thanks for this!

I would like for you all to know that if you're using this code, that it is uneccessary to unroot or flash an ota rom. Once you type "# reboot" in terminal or adb the phone is bricked. It will not charge or turn on, as you just destroyed its instructions for doing so. The only way tmo or htc can fix this is to replace the emmc chip and flash an entirely new ruu thus destroying all evidence of root or custom rom. This type of bricking also makes it look as if either the pc board or emmc chip took a dump so it will look like a manufacturer defect. I am in no way advocating fraud, I'm simply sharing a line of linux commands; however I do know that sometimes one must do what one must do, so I don't blame you either.

According to your outputs your device shouldn't charge or turn on any more correct?
Edit: Although the code should reboot your device, if for some reason it doesn't then power off your device and try to turn it on. It shouldn't respond or charge, if it does something went awry and I will figure it out.

Bricked cdma htc hero after ruu 1.56

i ran the ruu update when i got my phone and went to 90 percent then error 110 missing file,
now it only goes to fastboot menu with no options to select from, ive tried the ruu from sdk and same error,
so if any help i can get from you guys would be greatly appreciated,
ive looked all over the google.com and have come up with no luck on how to fix this ,
i know its like the radio image that doesnt flash or something, also in sdk i cant adb to recognize device.
please help ive been to geekfor.me and no help there,
if it helps the phone is a with google stamp on it. well lets see how this thread goes from here.
Try re-downloading the ruu.
What rom were you coming from?
I haven't found anyone that has a solution to the 110 file error when flashing the RUU...
I as well as a few other gave up hope and have all since gotten replacement Heros.
The main crux of the issue is that the fastboot you are booting into will not allow adb commands and hence will never allow the RUU to install completely.
Hate to say it, but figure out a way to exchange the phone for a new one, you are stuck in an infinite loop of 110 errors...
R
Hi again R.
Yes, error 110 is a nasty one indeed. It's the reason I am hesitant to root Hero #2. I still have my 110'd Hero and am (so far unsuccessfully) hacking it back to health.

I already re-rooted both of my phones again and am playing with ROMs, LOL so although I know what the concerns are with RUU, I'm just hoping that I can not mess things up so much that a RUU would be my only choice. My only issue is I cannot deal with the phone being as slow as it was and without Root and a ROM, I feel like I'd rather go get something else... So I have no choice but to play with fire...
The way I see it, if I can keeep these stable long enough and something finally does happen, I only hope the Supersonic is out and I an "forced" to upgrade

I'll probably brick my phone intentionally when the Supersonic or the next-gen Sprint android comes out so I have an excuse to upgrade.
Anyway... back on topic. Try flashing recovery image from ADB like this:
Code:
adb remount
It should then say remount succeded.
Code:
adb push recovery.img /sdcard
adb shell
cd /sdcard
flash_image recovery recovery.img
reboot recovery
and then flash a custom ROM. I actually made that mistake when I first rooted.

there in lies the problem, after you get the 110 error you have no more ADB. it boots into a fastboot that does not have ADB support
so the real problem is how to re-enable ADB commands, then reflashing should be simple and straight-forward...

Well, you can flash in fastboot... but that never worked for me.
I'm on this same boat and have been trying to find a solution. Luckily I just recently got my phone and am planning on taking it in. I did seem to find a thread where someone fixed this but they didn't say how... I messaged the guy who helped that person out but he hadn't replied yet. Forum dot ppcgeeks dot com/showthread.php?t=111587 Hope it is ok to post the link otherwise I apologize. I would really like to get my hero fixed if possible. I have a sprint hero 1.56.651.2 and used the signed RUU that's on a few threads. At first, I kept getting the connection error while trying to do the RUU, I wish I would have stopped here. But I finally got the RUU to detect and start. it was at around 85% when it moved on to the next thing after user settings I believe and it gave me the ERROR[110]. I've tried the holding volume down and powering on and many other keys but no luck.
finally got it replaced
well i got a replacement phone so kinda happy now, too bad it s a refurb unit as opposed to the brand new unit i f'ked up before. well off to what i was when i fked up my other one.haha
Heh, ditto. I got a brand spanken new one though. This time I made a backup before I soiled it.

So does the update.zip actually install or does it complain about signatures?
To get # in the shell you need to type 'su'
Just because a "root" app runs doesnt mean you have root either.

yes it installs without errors. I literally just rewrote the updater.script to include the sgh-t959d and installed it on my device.

If you know your way around odin, you can make a back up of your kernel image by doing this from your device:
Code:
[FONT=Verdana]# dd if=/dev/block/bml8 of=/sdcard/recovery bs=4096
[FONT=Verdana]# dd if=/dev/block/bml7 of=/sdcard/zImage bs=4096[/FONT]
[/FONT]
You can then copy both from your sdcard onto your computer. Now you will need a linux box or cygwin to package the files we just pulled into odin files:
Code:
tar -H ustar -c /path/to/zImage > USCC-stock-kernel.tar
Then try flashing one of jt1134's kernels just to test and see if they work on your device, i dont know why they wouldnt.
sorry im noob at this...

Do i just insert the file to my sdcard and update it through recovery console?

Also, Apparently Z4Root works, but I never knew about it so I did this. Try that too.
Still need a forum for this bad boy.
I vote it get's called the fascibrant, Because it's NOT a T-Mo vibrant (Different radio) and it sure as hell isn't a fascinate. (different... everything. )
Yeah, I'm thinking about picking up a Telus Fascinate. Although it would be niche community for roms yes? As far as I know Telus is the only carrier to have this specific device... I currently have a desire, and there's plenty to do with that phone. I'm just a bit worried even with root access, there will be a limit to the phones capability still.
All that aside, YES, we do need a forum specific to this rare beast.

True.. even tho its called Fascinate.. its not actually THE fascinate...
In fact the model number is more similar to vibrant than fascinate
(T959 =vibrant T959D =telus "fascinate")
Yesterday I bought invisibleshield by zagg for samsung fascinate and guess what
it doesn't fit!! Samsung tweaked the model designfrom the original
fascinate. surprise surprise.......
I am desperately waiting custom roms to be developed for telus "fascinate"
so that I can remove this old 2.1 Telus fascinate getting froyo update early

No prob, I do what I can. I need to get with a MOD over here. All the info from my guides will work here, but as version numbers and some files are different I don't want to confuse people more. I guess I can try to go though them and try to make g2/dz friendly...

A lot of us are hoping that the G2 and DZ forums are merged very soon. I can't see a lot of point keeping them apart - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797956 for discussion on that subject (and please add your thoughts there if you get a chance).
Ya that's what I ment. To make sure were on the same page. You did this with phone hooked up and booted into the recovery that's on there now.
What happens when you type that from htc screen. Give it a min of trying to boot before typing thoses commands.
Anyone know which version number the uk desire z is shipped with, and what's the most current signed official img out?
it is HTC Desire Z A7272

Sorry not what I mean. Like the g2 was shipped with software version 1.19.531.1, and the g2 OTA is version 1.22.something.
If you have no shell access now, be it in recovery or while trying to boot, then you only chance is an official signed img or ruu FOR YOUR DEVICE. If there has not been any OTA out/applied to your phone before you got it, then it should work.
Is there one for the uk shipped ones?
I think the stock ROM is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822908 , though I don't have my own DZ yet to check.
I have an extracted stock rom, I will upload, hold tight...
Is the phone a unlocked unbranded phone? If so you can go back to stock by flashing a extracted stock rom from hboot, I have dine this a few times already. Hold tight, I'm uploading

Do you have skype?
Its taking ages to upload;(

All i think has happened is that that the rom or the kernel has become corrupted by what you did...
If its that we can solve that shizzle, just flash this PC10IMG that i have, its your best and only shot
JD
it is, 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M

[Q] Have I possibly bricked my myTouch 4G?

Hi everyone,
I am in a big problem it seems. This is what happened: My phone was working fine with CM7 and latest version of CW Mod but suddenly everything started force closing. So what I did was to factory reset the phone from recovery wiping cache and davlik cache. After doing factory reset it stopped at splash screen itself and not booting up. Does factory reset removes rooting for mt4g?
After that, I tried to install ADB and root again but adb devices doesnt show my device when I am in recovery. But when I go to fastboot it, fastboot devices cmd shows my device.
I then tried to go back to stock by applying PD15IMG and it successfully applies it but now it gets stuck at "my"splash screen. What should I do now?
Thanks in advance.
Uh oh... Sounds like bad eMMc chip which no, can't be fixed. I'd see if you can check your eMMc but if not I believe your screwed and will have to send back to tmo.

Do you get any cache errors in recovery when wiping?
Did you upgrade your radio to a version other than stock before attempting to restore to factory using PD15IMG?
It's starting to sound like a bad eMMC at this point though. Those things are starting to fail left and right!
I will check eMMC and post it here. But yes, while wiping cache I get error E: cant open /cache/ or something like that so i assumed that it might be because i got unrooted and I wanted to root again (but i cant adb). When applying ROM, it exits saying Status 1. No, I didn't upgrade radio images.
Fc followed by bootloop followed by cache errors...definitely eMMc

Because of applying PD15 image I got original h-boot version (not engineering h-boot) so couldn't check eMMC. But I have radio version which is 26.03.02.26_M
If I assume that eMMC is gone then, Is there any other option of doing ANYTHING except sending it to TMobile as I am using it outside US.

Bootloader version has nothing to do with being able to check eMMC version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081243
Somewhere in there there's instructions for checking without root if you've lost it already.
Thanks for the link but I can't adb. fastboot shows my device but adb doesn't. I don't know if there is any problem with my drivers. because when i plug the phone in is shows ADB Interface in Device manager. Still I will check them again will try to put eMMC version ASAP.

Someone posted some instructions a while back that allowed you to check your eMMC version using terminal commands, so you could do it without root or ADB, but for the life of me I can't find them! I thought they were in the main eMMC serial thread, but maybe not. I'll keep looking.

cat /sys/devices/platform/msm_sdcc.2/mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0:0001/name
But right now, my phone is not even booting up. how would I go to terminal emulator?

I'm suffering from brain fade today. I forgot about the fact that your phone wasn't booting. If memory serves, there is a terminal option in CWM recovery. If your recovery is still usable, try selecting the terminal feature and enter those commands there. Honestly though, this would only serve to confirm what we already know. Your eMMC has failed, so there's isn't much hope. The good news is most people have had no trouble doing a warranty exchange, even when sending in a rooted phone. Good luck!
As I tried to flash PD15IMG it is now into stock recovery. Need to flash CWM using fastboot but dont know whether it would work or not because last time I tried (before applying PD15) it failed saying Status 1. Need to check that.
But you know what the bigger problem is, I bought it from Swappa.com and I don't even know whether I can exchange it or not. I will have to send it to my friend who is in the US as I am outside.
Do they give warranty card or something when you buy (I dont know as I am not the original buyer ) ??

There's a terminal in cwm...? Since when?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Nope, bought mine from eBay and htd fixed it when mine quit. Just called for a rma, advised it was bootloopimg then went blank, shipped it and got another or it back fixed. Call it won't hurt.

Hey I'm in the situation where my phone won't even turn on now... I called HTC already and they're actually mailing in a battery thinking that it's the reason the phone won't charge or turn on...
What were the steps you went through to get the to take it in? Did you end up getting a new one or the one you sent in for repairs? You paid for shipping or any repair fees? Any input would be useful... let me know!
Thanks!

It doesn't. As I said in that post, I wasn't sure. It turns out I was thinking of Amon-RA's recovery which does have a terminal option.

Yeah, It would be great if you tell the procedure. You directly called HTC guys or TMobile? What else do you need to ship along with the phone?
Flashing CWM??
Guys,
As I described my phone is in a boot loop but I can see it in fastboot but when i go to recovery it jst goes to bad state and have to remove battery. Is there a way to flash CWM recovery and opening adb shell as I might want to see what is eMMC and need to try this out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15299273&postcount=66 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039504&page=2
I know we can flash recovery from fastboot but when i tried that it gave me an error saying you remote not allowed (android sdk on Win 7).
You weren't in fastboot mode, but in hboot mode.
Choose "fastboot" to be able to flash.

[Q] desire Z dead when i try write orginal ruu file

i had ruu file with 2.3.3 and my phone in 2.2 when i try to flash it after 2 min the process rich 14% and(hboot updating) stay on it for 45 min .when i see nothing happend in such time i disconnect my phone and try too recover it but not sucsses .
i try to flash with other ruu files and get same result
Sounds like you might have the bad emmc chip.
Some info on the issue here
-Nipqer
Just a guess:
Wasn't there also an issue with flashing a official ruu (don't know wether this is the case here) when you're rooted and have s-off.
I believe I remember something along the ways of, that somewhere during the flashing process, s-on would be restored and your basically end up being stuck in between?

there is really not too much to worry about, if you private message me, I can give you Josh's information here on XDA - he can unbrick pretty much any G2/Desire-Z for $40 and has done 100's of them - he has like almost 500 Thanks on here -
the only thing he can't fix is a fried emmc chip, but thankfully those are relatively rare!
(and if the emmc chip is fried, then HTC will fix it, because that truly is their fault, so no worries!)
(HTC knows of the emmc chip failures, and that is why in this case they are not going to give you a hassle about the warranty, sort of like when an auto company has done a silent recall, so to speak)
