if you back s-on then it sounds like you tried to flash an offical img.
what exactly did you do after you were s-off?
read this post, yes i know its long. its for the g2 so the version #'s and links to files may not apply, but the process does.
you should really read the whole thing, but at least respond back here with the answers to my 2nd post in there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842495
edit: if im reading your hboot version number right, you flashed the tmobile offical img?
I think i tried to install this rom
PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_1.19.531.1_Radio_12.21.60.09b_26.02.01.15_M2_release_149459_signed.zip

like i said go to the link in my first post, and answer the question in my 2nd post in that thread here.
now this is speculation, but since you are a dz you MIGHT have another option, depends on how far that img made it. which dz is yours? the official pc10img for your device may work, HOWEVER it may make things worse. we need to test/try EVERYTHING else before you try to flash it.
Thankn you very much for your help fastludeh22, the "how to recover my semi brick" guide is great and was much needed

A lot of us are hoping that the G2 and DZ forums are merged very soon. I can't see a lot of point keeping them apart - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797956 for discussion on that subject (and please add your thoughts there if you get a chance).
Ya that's what I ment. To make sure were on the same page. You did this with phone hooked up and booted into the recovery that's on there now.
What happens when you type that from htc screen. Give it a min of trying to boot before typing thoses commands.
Anyone know which version number the uk desire z is shipped with, and what's the most current signed official img out?
it is HTC Desire Z A7272

Sorry not what I mean. Like the g2 was shipped with software version 1.19.531.1, and the g2 OTA is version 1.22.something.
If you have no shell access now, be it in recovery or while trying to boot, then you only chance is an official signed img or ruu FOR YOUR DEVICE. If there has not been any OTA out/applied to your phone before you got it, then it should work.
Is there one for the uk shipped ones?
I think the stock ROM is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822908 , though I don't have my own DZ yet to check.
I have an extracted stock rom, I will upload, hold tight...
Is the phone a unlocked unbranded phone? If so you can go back to stock by flashing a extracted stock rom from hboot, I have dine this a few times already. Hold tight, I'm uploading

All i think has happened is that that the rom or the kernel has become corrupted by what you did...
If its that we can solve that shizzle, just flash this PC10IMG that i have, its your best and only shot

To all devs out there ,im been trying to root the hero for a week now ,ive tried every guide going also the gold card with 10 different sd cards with no luck.the rom what ive got is the release 2.73.405.66 rom.it has the new nboot is thats why i cant flash.is there any way i can wipe all date and software so i will have nothing on the phone and then install an earlier rom, its just an idea as im starting to lose it with this fone.i hope someone can help me or do i have to wait for the official update from htc
with this rom version you need to create a goldcard and downgrade your rom before you can install a custom rom. if you have problems with the goldcard you should be more specific.
waiting for the update doesn't seem like the best idea, because it might take some until a security flaw is found that allows to root the rom when already installed on the phone. if you have the custom recovery image you will be able to install the (pre-rooted) update short time after it was released.
You should be able to use fastboot for this issue.
Search around the forums, (also http://hero.modaco.com) and read about it.
All you need is the fasboot tool, a usb cable and the "debugging mode" switched on at ur phone...
everytime i create the gold card and try to downgrade the rom it states boot error 140.i follow the guides very indepth i get the serial number from the sdcard than i reverse the string and then replace the first two numbers or letters with 2 zeros how can you tell when the goldcard is on the sdcard.when i replace the sdcard back in sdcard reader it states that the folder is empty.im quite clued up on winmo but android is giving me a headache
wouldn't the fastboot give you the "remote: not allowed" error?
anyway, you can try:
start your phone by holding back and pushing power, you should see three skating androids. put recovery image in the folder where your fastboot.exe is, open terminal and go to that folder and type:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.3.1.img
if that works report back.
for the goldcard i can't help, never did it.
at last im rooted thanks for for the help .the way i did
(with the phone in normal mode)
1) Connect your Hero via usb to your pc/mac/...
2) Open Command Prompt ->
Put in the following text ->
C:\Users\Username> cd\
C:\>cd android\tools\
C:\>android\tools>adb push recovery-RA-Hero-v1.5.3.1.img /sdcard/recovery-RA-Hero-v1.5.3.1.img

Getting exactly the same. Tried the goldcard method numerous times using 3 different cards and always get the bootloader 140 error. Tried the above with same errors... very frustrating!
Mine is a UK T-Mobile G2 with build number 2.73.110.26, any suggestions gratefully tried!
Edit: Finally managed to sort it. I was using "RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_1.76.405.1_R3_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe" - this didnt work. Once I found and tried RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe it all clicked into place!
Thanks for all the info provided on these forums, cheers!

Hi
I have tried making a goldcard, and installed via. the RUU shown here.. 405.5 .. but then I tried using Flashrec to get another recovery image, it failed making the first step...
So is my phone rooted or did something go wrong ?
the phone is still unfortunately not rooted. I would've tried the fastboot method
Sent from my HTC Hero using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
just curious but did anyone just try to flash the older version without bothering with the goldcard...i dun know what i did to my htc hero orange but when i was researching i was told i needed to downgrade to root. I tried to take a long shot and used htc sync and old orange ruu..and somehow it just downgraded itself.... i know it might not help but its a long shot!

Very similar story. I did make a goldcard but hadn't got as far as finding out how to extract the update.zip out of the RUU exe, in order to use it. I tried running the RUU to see what would happen & my Hero downgraded.
i ran the ruu update when i got my phone and went to 90 percent then error 110 missing file,
now it only goes to fastboot menu with no options to select from, ive tried the ruu from sdk and same error,
so if any help i can get from you guys would be greatly appreciated,
ive looked all over the google.com and have come up with no luck on how to fix this ,
i know its like the radio image that doesnt flash or something, also in sdk i cant adb to recognize device.
please help ive been to geekfor.me and no help there,
if it helps the phone is a with google stamp on it. well lets see how this thread goes from here.
Try re-downloading the ruu.
What rom were you coming from?
I haven't found anyone that has a solution to the 110 file error when flashing the RUU...
I as well as a few other gave up hope and have all since gotten replacement Heros.
The main crux of the issue is that the fastboot you are booting into will not allow adb commands and hence will never allow the RUU to install completely.
Hate to say it, but figure out a way to exchange the phone for a new one, you are stuck in an infinite loop of 110 errors...
R
Hi again R.
Yes, error 110 is a nasty one indeed. It's the reason I am hesitant to root Hero #2. I still have my 110'd Hero and am (so far unsuccessfully) hacking it back to health.
@turboek99: Yes, what rom did you have installed? Mine was modaco 2.2

I already re-rooted both of my phones again and am playing with ROMs, LOL so although I know what the concerns are with RUU, I'm just hoping that I can not mess things up so much that a RUU would be my only choice. My only issue is I cannot deal with the phone being as slow as it was and without Root and a ROM, I feel like I'd rather go get something else... So I have no choice but to play with fire...
The way I see it, if I can keeep these stable long enough and something finally does happen, I only hope the Supersonic is out and I an "forced" to upgrade

I'll probably brick my phone intentionally when the Supersonic or the next-gen Sprint android comes out so I have an excuse to upgrade.
Anyway... back on topic. Try flashing recovery image from ADB like this:
Code:
adb remount
It should then say remount succeded.
Code:
adb push recovery.img /sdcard
adb shell
cd /sdcard
flash_image recovery recovery.img
reboot recovery
and then flash a custom ROM. I actually made that mistake when I first rooted.

there in lies the problem, after you get the 110 error you have no more ADB. it boots into a fastboot that does not have ADB support
so the real problem is how to re-enable ADB commands, then reflashing should be simple and straight-forward...

Well, you can flash in fastboot... but that never worked for me.
I'm on this same boat and have been trying to find a solution. Luckily I just recently got my phone and am planning on taking it in. I did seem to find a thread where someone fixed this but they didn't say how... I messaged the guy who helped that person out but he hadn't replied yet. Forum dot ppcgeeks dot com/showthread.php?t=111587 Hope it is ok to post the link otherwise I apologize. I would really like to get my hero fixed if possible. I have a sprint hero 1.56.651.2 and used the signed RUU that's on a few threads. At first, I kept getting the connection error while trying to do the RUU, I wish I would have stopped here. But I finally got the RUU to detect and start. it was at around 85% when it moved on to the next thing after user settings I believe and it gave me the ERROR[110]. I've tried the holding volume down and powering on and many other keys but no luck.
finally got it replaced
well i got a replacement phone so kinda happy now, too bad it s a refurb unit as opposed to the brand new unit i f'ked up before. well off to what i was when i fked up my other one.haha
Heh, ditto. I got a brand spanken new one though. This time I made a backup before I soiled it.
I am trying to root my Dream I just bought. I am in Italy for 5 months. I have the HTC Hero by Sprint and I have rooted the Hero twice. So I have a good idea of what I am doing.

Can I get directions on which Recovery to flash and how to?
I have tried loading Cyanogen's Recovery 1.4
I can not find Haykuro's root kit download.
I have tried loading from Terminal Emulator
I have tried telnetd with a telnet app
I have tried the French version: http://wiki.smartphonefrance.info/fi...-htcdream.ashx
All with no success.
When trying from the cmd line: adb shell I get the $. And I put fastboot boot recovery.img it come back with accessed denied.
I type in SU and is says denied.
Same thing from the Terminal.
Any help would be MUCH MUCH grateful.
Thank you in advance from a 5 year user and hacker of HTC phones.

You are not on RC29/RC7. The security flaw we exploit in order to root our phones has been fixed in every firmware update. Follow this guide for help:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
Thank you. I will take a look and get back to you.
Thank you so much. It really does mean a lot. I hate not having 2.1. Had it in the states on my Hero. Now I want it in Italy.
Still a problem...
Followed the directions.
I did a fresh format of FAT32.
Downloaded the Europe (since i bought the phone in Italy) and I Decided to download the US....You will see why later.
It goes through the following setup once i hit camera button and power and then action button to start update:
Parsing DREAIMG.nbh
1 -7 some info...yada yada
Do you want to start update?
Yes i do.
Then it says:
Update is in progress……
Reading images……
Then it says:
Update in progress….
Checking Signature…..
Comes back with:
Model ID incorrect!
Update Fail!
Do you want to reboot device?
What is wrong? Thank you in advance for you help.
Did you use RC29 or RC7? Whichever you used, it's the wrong one for your reason, use the other.
I tried the RC7 first got the response posted.
Then I tried the RC29 and got the same response. So both of them are not working for me. Any thought? And I reformatted both times. Just to make sure. Thank you for your much appreciated help.
Ok, when you are flashing the DREAIMG.nbh deal first, right?
flashing....
correct. i format the card to fat32. then i move the europe version and rename it correctly because the nbh is wrong. and when i try to flash it goes throgh the steps to the point of installing and give the error message. any thoughts on model nubere? i posted most of the phone detail. whay else do i need? thank you.
Italian Dream....

fastboot...
The post says to put in fastboot and attach to your computer. Problem is that when I do this the computer does not recognize. So I go to the usb page to download and its an dead link. I tried finding the usb driver but not succesful. Any thoughts?
USB...
So i decided to use my Macbook pro and still nothing. It recognizes the device when its not in fastboot mode.
I typed in fastboot just like the directions said and nothing really happened. So i decided to try and to the recovery. Typed in fastboot boot recovery.img and it said cannot load image. Then i went into adb shell and put su just for the fun of it and it said access denied.
Any thoughts?

You are probably going to need a goldcard then. Check either the rogers threads or the magic threads for more info on how to do that.
gold card
Tried the gold card approach. When I put the phone in fastboot mode and attach it to my computer it is not recognized under adb devices. I have been looking for a good download link for the usb driver for that mode. I even tried it on my mac. Mac could only see it when the phone was in normal mode using adb devices. In fast boot its not recognizable. Any thoughts or links for the usb?

Requirements:
• ADB Installed on your system. See our guide on what is ADB and how to install it.
• HTC Sync software installed in order to download necessary drivers. (Once the drivers are installed, remove HTC Sync from your system.)
• AlphaRevX.
Instructions:
1. To begin, make sure USB debugging is enabled in you device under Settings > Applications > Development.
2. Download AlphaRevX and extract the files to a folder. (A form will show up on the download page, keep it opened.)
3. Connect your device to the system and run Aplharev.exe.
4. You will be asked to enter a Beta key at this stage. Simple copy the serial number that shows up in the brackets in the prompt as shown in the screenshot above, and paste it into the form on the download page.
5. Hit the Generate Key on that form and once you have the key, enter it into the prompt to see a Beta key accepted message.
6. The application will start the S-Off procedure and should complete in around 90 seconds. Incase it does not start, wait fro around 15 minutes and re-do the whole process.
After doing the above procedure downgrade to HTC aria 2.1 then you be able to root you aria once more and flash any files. Please donate to alpharev too they made it possible.you can find the old 2.1 ruu in xda
PS I have done it and it works.
Man talk about timing. My fr008 aria bit the dust and I had to get another via ins. well it came factory with 2.2.2. I was pissed off about that and started looking for a fix and found one here. I will have to wait till tomorrow or Monday to try it because the unit they sent me has a bad ear piece and they are sending a new one but I will post my results when I get my new, new phone. Thanks for the work on this.
No link to file do I need to search XDA or did you forget to attach it.

Why would anyone want to downgrade to 2.1 after having S-OFF!? (Rhetorical question). Once you have S-OFF, you can flash superuser, clockworkmod and custom roms without needing to downgrade to 2.1 then rooting again. Also attn1 already made a thread here on what to do after AlpharevX: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694.

Uh no, Theonew is exactly right. Not only is he right, but he gave a link showing exactly what he was talking about. In an ultimate showing of irony, you blasted someone for not doing his research when it's actually you who hasn't done his research.
Once you have S-OFF you don't need to use the 2.1 RUU or Unrevoked. It's a waste of time. You can push Clockwork recovery to your phone via fastboot, then flash whatever you want. It takes literally 2 seconds to flash Clockwork in this manner after you have S-OFF.

I really didn't have any need to either. I was perfectly happy with a fully rooted Aria running CM 7.0.3, but curiosity got the best of me, plus I had just ordered a HTC Incredible S, so I decided to 'practice' the AlphaRevX process on my Aria.
Installed the Froyo 2.2.2 update and then ran AlphaRevX and it went without a hitch. Got CWM reinstalled and superuser reinstalled and it was a really painless.
Nice!! thanks for the feedback M8
not to stray off topic, but now with S-Off achieved is it possible to downgrade HBoot with .zip file?? or is this sticky which can only be done using a box??
i may upgrade anyway just for kicks, but it would be great if we could downgrade HBoot again too

AlphaRevX is able to overwrite HBOOT 1.02 and replace it with their own that has S-OFF. It looks like they set the HBOOT version very high, so that 'downgrading' with say a RUU will fail. So if you find a way to replace this special HBOOT, you will loose S-OFF.
yah after reading a bit i see the Alpharev hack is a pached HBOOT. so i believe you are correct, removing it will make it S-On again. too bad

This is what I want to do, but I need some help.
After using AlpharevX, I'll get S-OFF. Then, I just want to root the phone and be able to do a nandroid backup. I don't want to flash any ROM at this time.
The link you posted to does not have a clockworkmod listed for Aria. Which one do I use?
i would use THIS One. finally Clockwork without the recovery screen during charging
once you aquire S-off you can install Clockwork using Android Flasher

It does have it listed for Aria. The Aria is codenamed as Liberty. It's ClockworkMod is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=591945&d=1305031790. You can get android flasher from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638. Unzip it, run it, select recovery at the side and click begin (Your phone will go into fastboot), find recovery.img (extracted from ClockworkMod), select it, click begin, and your done. You now have ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1 installed. To root, just go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694 and follow the "To Root" steps and then you will be rooted. To do the nandroid backup, just start ClockworkMod (Instructions in the previous link - "How to start ClockworkMod") and select nandroid.
I have spent over a week trying to root my HTC Legend (running 2.2 froyo HBOOT 1.01).
Ive tried a dozen guides everywhere but I cant seem to get past the downgrade process :/
I tried this guide here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894465) but i got "permission denied" when i tried to "adb reboot bootloader"
I get the cr--rw---- error when i try other guides.
Nothing seems to work.
Can anyone please write a simplified guide at one place for all this?
or tell me What really could be going wrong?
Use the "Hboot made easy guide" which is somewhere in this forum section. Very simple and I used the guide to root my legend after having fruitless tries with other guides.

The Legend just got added to the htc dev site so you should be able to unlock the bootloader now, might make things much easier for you.
Hi,
Did you find a solution ?
I'm in the same situation as you, my legend is froyo 2.2 and HBOOT 1.0.
If we use the htcdev, after that can we root the legend ?

Yes, with "HTC Super tool v3"
first of all download an application called visionary+
http://content.modaco.net/dropzone/c...ryplus.r13.apk
make sure that the usb debugging is turned on.
i hope you know how to create a gold card and that you have done it.
put the gold card in the phone.
then instead of running the crackin.bat file open it in word pad.
then temp root the phone using visionary+
type in each command one by one in the command prompt.
then when you reach the step where they show "adb shell" followed by commands.
then type
adb shell
then you will get a '$' symbol
then type su
then you will get a '#' symbol
then continue typing the commands without the 'adb shell'
after you type 'reboot' ignore the 'wait_for_device'
once the phone is back on temp root it again before you proceed.
finish the procedure this way.
Remember that you will get many error messages while you type each command. ignore the messages.
You wont get the full crwxrwxrwx. But what you get will be good enough.
now you can run the RUU
please reply if you have any doubts.
just try Unlock Bootloader http://htcdev.com/
yup... agree to the guy above..
unlock your boot loader than, flash CWM, after that. flash what ever rom you want as long as its for legend roms... ^^
hi guys,
i unlocked my device via htcdev its hboot version is now 1.02.000 and i flashed recovery_legend_5.0.2.8.img but i am not able to flash a new rom
after i booted in to recovery mode i chose flash zip from sd card option in the list it couldn't pass to next screen, options listed in the main menu goes off and i can see only cwm icon (a black hat over a yellow circle) i waited 2-3 minutes but nothing happened when i press power button it returns to main menu again.
Also other options listed in the cwm main menu not goes further, reboot system and power off, wipe data... either, same thing happens as described above.
i am waiting your suggestions
inside the cwm menu you have to make a selection by hitting the trackball (when you press the power-button, only the image you've descriped will appear)

you can flash the bootloader with the method BlaY0 provided here, regardless which rom you're currently using

Yeah I tried that one, and I got stuck everytime at step 7. He finds my LEGEIMG.zip, but when he wants to install that one he keeps saying:
Main version is older!
Update Fail!
Do you want to reboot device?
