"Setting up Data Link" Fix - Atrix 4G General

Hey guys, I've had some issues using the custom APN to tether. Notably, I sometimes get hung up on the "Setting up data link" message. A lot of people have suggested toggling airplane mode as a fix, but it doesn't work with me.
Here's what I've found works very consistently:
When you get stuck on that message, go to the Mobile Networks settings and activate the "AT&T US HSDPA" APN. The hotspot will then connect, and I usually go back to the custom tethering APN just for good measure.
Hope this helps!

this was already posted before as a fix in the tethering thread.
another solution is to enable wifi before you start your hotspot.

Is there a more "permanent" fix for this rather then a work around?
Neither of the work arounds posted here are working for me...only reboot helps...

Hm... not that I've seen. Funnily enough, I only have this problem on GingerBlur. I switched to GladAtrix for a bit with a skin on top, and the hotspot always started without a hitch.

GPRS tries to connect when already connected to Wifi

Hi, i have a very strange and unpleasant problem with my Hermes.. At home I am using my wifi connection to receive mails etc. My Hermes connects to the wifi network normally, but when I want to use internet connection (IE, Outlook..) it will start GPRS. I have to turn wifi of and back on to be able to use it. It is pretty annoying as you can imagine. Now I am using latest Tytn WWE rom, but i have had same problems with T-mobile rom.
My old Wizard is connecting normally and has never done something stupid like this Do anyone have some clue what may cause this strange behaviour?
Have you confirmed that the home WiFi connection is configured as 'Connects to: The Internet'? In comm manager turn off the WiFI then go into settings/connections/Network Cards and you will be presented with all the networks used or previously found by your TyTn wireless card.
Select you named home wireless connection and you will be presented with the screen "Configure Wireless Network". Make sure that the entry against "Connects to:" i sset to The Internet - then press OK (top right), then dismiss the settings windows.
Try the connection again - it worked for me a while back. If already set at "connects to the Internet" then try deleting the settings and creating the entry again: press and hold on the connection (your home WiFi) then select "Remove Settings". Then turn on networked and set it up again remembering to select "connects to the Internet" when asked during the configuration of the WiFi connection. Of course you will again be prompted for a network key if you have a secure wireless router.
- if you all this then sorry but you didn't say. Hope it helps
I have already set it to connect to the internet few days ago. But i will try to remove those settings and do it again.. Hope it will solve the problem.
Thanks for your help. I'll report later..

Mine does the same thing and I am set the same way, even though it connects to GPRS etc it still uses the WiFi (ran speed test on IE to confirm)
Hi
I hear good things about Danielherrero's bandswitch app. This is a long thread and I think there are revisions along the way so best read through a sample of the pages:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286844&highlight=danielherrero
Whether it will solve your particular issue I don't know - but worth a look?

Hmm.. I am already using that band switcher. Really a great program but unfortunatelly it cannot solve this issue.
But.. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel I've deleted my network settings and than set it again. And now it seems to be working! Hmm.. cannot be quite sure if it isn't just lucky day, but I've tested it more than 10 times and it seems to be OK.
Anyway... thanks for your help
Hopefully it will continue to work.
PS Is "cancer man" still alive or have the ciggies killed him off?
Mike
Glad to hear it worked OK. I too found it was teh only way to get mine initially working - since deleting and recreating the link it has worked OK (3 mths plus)
Aaah.. I heard that cancer man is still alive. But.. trust no one Hope he will not follow the Marlboro Man..
And by the way.. After few hours it still seems to be working. Thanks guys!!
Out of a month of use it has happened to me only once. I just turned off wifi then turned it back on. I believe the tytn is not recognising that it has a valid Internet connection.

Anytime turn off wifi no 3g available anymore!

Anytime I turn off wifi connection and try to connect with 3g after it there´s no application can get any access to internet.
Even softreset or deleting and typing new ISP settings don´t work except hardreset until I turn on wifi and turn it off again.
Really weird!
Can anyone help me please!?
Thanks!
I had an issue recently that sounds very similar. I altered some wi-fi settings, specifically to have a fixed IP address on my home network and when I was away from my network, 3G stopped working.
My fix was to use the wizard to set up my data access again from scratch (Start - Settings - Connections - Connections Setup). After this, everything worked again. Not sure if this'll help, but might be worth a try.
I still don't know why one affected the other, but if I go anywhere near my data settings, it happens and is repeatable.
Problem fixed with original rom
Thanks for answer, but I tried your advice couple of times before.
No result!
but its the same, I have static IP at home too and connection works fine but after disabling wifi no internet connect available.
Now I flashed original HTC rom and I have no problem anymore. It has to deal with the cooked roms of Dutty (both versions v1.7 and v1.8 extreme).
I would like use one of these roms but I have to fix that!
I've had the problem and was fixed by - in connections... "Programs that access the internet use:" was "My work network" -ie wifi.. instead should be "Internet over GPRS"
changing it fixed it.
i find it annoying it should have "Try wifi first, if no access THEN use the Expensive data plan"
I´ve had tried that options too...no result!
But it has to deal with your hint I think. Maybe my settings don´t effect like it does with your handheld. Maybe something´s wrong with writing settings in registry?
I have a same issue.
there´re lot of people having that same issue....
Maybe Dutty by himself is able to give us answer?!
I´ve flashed Dutty´s 1.9 now but I have same issue again.
What´s wrong with my settings?
Same settings worked very well in original htc rom.
What the heck is going on?

APNDroid doesn't work fine...

Hi,
I'm a Nexus One user, i'm tying APNDroid to lower my data traffic and I have a problem.
When switching to ON, internet does not up (but apn entries corrected to their normal values). When i reset the phone (or enter in flight mode and back to normal) internet works well.
I've tried also the widget Toggle Data with the same results.
Anyone with the same problem? Any possible solution?
Thanks in advance.
APNDriod works just fine here
It does note, however, that latent connections may not clear. So, if they never clear (so you reboot), you cant connect after toggling on
Dear All,
I've the similar experience. I'm using the 3G network in the street. When I back to home, I'll switch-off the 3G network that using the APNdroid and then switch on the Wifi. When I go out, I'll switch-off the Wifi and then open the 3G network again, but it's not work, until I restart the phone again. Is it the Wifi already allocate the resources that cannot release? or I need to make some changes in the phone setting?
Thanks a lot! :-D

I have seen a few people report the same thing - maybe report it to the developer? I don't really use mobile data at the moment, so it does not affect me.
it won't work immediately after I re-enable it, but give it 1 or 2 minutes then it will work again.
I actually have the same problem. Quite annoying. Hope a fix for this comes out soon.
I had the same problem.. and I notice no need to restart or reboot.
Just switch on the wifi and off again and while the APNDroid is on then the connection should be back on.

This didn't work for me today...
Normally it does.
I had to do a reboot until data connection worked again.
I have exactly the same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623592
No solution yet...
same here!
even if I don't use apndroid, just going outside wlan area doesn't brings me 3g back (any connection), that's really bad
this morning switching on apndroid no connection came back within 20 min. After i switched flight mode it worked immediately.
Do all n1 users having this issue?

Dont use this myself, but I wonder if the developer could add an optional toggle in/out of flight mode to fix this. that should terminate any existing connections too.
Dunno why really, but i dont have the issue, i have the same phone provider like LokoYaw and i dont have the problem.
Im using cyano5.0b3+kernel .29 highmem and no issues by now (and never with my magic too)
Bye all!
The wifi trick (turning it on/off) works well with me.
is this a software problem or N1 problem ?
before using APNDroid I manually edit APN to turn edge on/off and sometime experienced the same problem. Edge symbol just doesn't apprear, have to restart N1.
Anyway, thanks for the tip. I'll try change mode/turn wifi on-off to see what works for me.
I'm here to report that I suffer from the exact same problem, and have been mistaking it all day as the fault of my carrier's EDGE.
But toggling wi-fi on/off does work. Hooray.

Well, it WAS working fine, untill the update. Now it doesnt any more :S
The wifi trick sometimes works for me--it seems that if the phone doesn't detect any wifi in the area, then it doesn't work. Hit and miss. :/ And I really need the app, too, since like some of you I don't have an unlimited data plan.
Got the same issue here in Italy with TIM operator.

Dunno if you realise or not, but using APNDroid for this purpose is kinda pointless, Android shuts down the mobile data connection when it connects to a WLAN.

Wifi Not Working Correctly?

I tried searching and I have not found a solution yet. I'm running SHOstock-I with ktoonz kernel on android 4.4.2.
For some reason, my Wifi randomly disconnects from any currently connected wifi network. The first thing I try to do is to connect back to the wifi network (any available network), but it simply tries and says "Connection Failed". Next, I try to disable the wifi connectivity alltogether, but after I tap the toggle button it becomes "greyed-out" and I can't toggle it.. it just hangs. If I go back a step and then select wifi again, then I can try to disable it but the same thing just happens again.
If I reboot, then wifi works again.
Oddly enough, if I enable/disable teathering, then wifi starts to work again.
It seems I can't run Wifi for more than an hour without this issue happening. It seems to have just started doing this out of the blue. I suspect a full wipe would solve the issue but I'd rather not do that unless I have to. It usually takes me a while to get things back to normal after a wipe.
Any ideas?
Some solved the problem by unInstalling the Smart Wifi utility (for ATT and maybe other carriers too).

Thanks, but I don't have that app installed. I am positive this is not a router issue as well.
Everytime I wipe cache/delvik then the issue doesn't occur for a few days, which I think is odd. I also tried different kernels and the problem persisted.
Does anyone know if it's possible to confirm if this is a hardware issue? I doubt it...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It is a good idea to turn off any 'connection optimizer' or 'wifi optimizer' application or setting, in short anything that decides what connection is selected based on available connections should be turned off. The most probable reason for the problem is badly programmed software.

Teamviewer Remote Control Won't Connect on WiFi

Teamviewer was working well on WiFi when I was on Stock Rom. Since I have switched to different Custom Roms, it has not worked on any of them. If I am on Data, I am able to use Teamviewer, but not on WiFi. Error message says "Signed in failed. Please check your internet connection and try again." Has anyone run into this problem and found a solution? Thank for the help in advance.
Fixed:
I finally figured it out after months with this issue. I thought it was the ROM, because it would work sometimes and then it would stop working. Today I found someone who had this same issue and it turned out to be the AT&T Modem. For some reason if IPv6 is Enabled it causes some android apps not to responds or get stuck loading. Why would it affect android apps I don't know, but it does. Maybe someone here can explain why. But if anyone is having this same issue and your modem/router has IPv6 enabled, just disable it.
I tried on a different wifi and it connects. It must some settings on the router.
If you are on Talk talk, they blocked it network-wide the other day
TeamViewer fixed after LineageOS OMS 7.1.1 update. I guess it was a ROM issue. Same update fixed Firefox dark screen.

"Hi, I've had this exact problem for months and I just now discovered out how to fix it. Open your router page in a browser (ex: my AT&T router page is http://192.168.1.254) and in the settings select LAN --> IPv6. Disable IPv6, then save/apply. Turn off wifi on the android, wait a few seconds, turn wifi back on, and voila. "
