I still I'm wondering where is the 4GB internal memory the G2 suposely has, and yes tmobile did say froyo doesn't allow more than 2GBs of internal mem for the phone to use so we had 1.2 gb out of the box the other .8 was probably used up by the OS so ok that's good. However after playing with the G2x I notice it has 5gb internal mem! So really froyo does not allow more than 2gbs? Or is tmo BS-ing us!!!
T-Mobile G2 1.42 GHZ
The G2 does indeed have 4GB of internal storage, but not all of it is visible to the operating system. The internal memory (/dev/block/mmcblk0) shows up as 2256 MB which place it solidly in the this-is-4GB-of-memory camp.

im still a newbie for android so im a bit confused....
just got my x10 from rogers and so far im quite happy with it. im rather confused about the internal memory though. the x10 is advsertized at having 1gig of internal storage and about 384mb of ram. under settings-->sd card and phone storage, the available space for internal memory is around 409 mbs. i dont have much in here yet except for a few basic apps so i dont know where the rest of this space went to.
secondly im getting mixed info on the available ram. i got the taskiller app and after killing all apps (except for clock, batterylife, calendar), it tells me i have 155m available(dont know if this the total ram available). where was the other memory being used? i downloaded an app called peak memory usage which gives a breakdown of all apps running and how much memory they consume and it tells me there the total ram on phone which does not match the proposed memory size on the add. the detail that i saw were as follows:
total: 268
avail:143
active: 89
inactive: 90
furthermore these numbers doesnt seem to be adding up.
can someone please advise my on this. am i just missing something here? what happened to the rest of my ram and internal storage? is there an app out there to get more accurate info on this? any help would be appreciated. thanks

well i have similar issues.. may be sumone could help...
I also have a similar question. Not sure why there is only 268 of total memory in the x10.
I might be able to answer one question. The 1ggb of internal memory is not for storing only, it also contains the actuall Android OS therefor only giving about half of that to play around with and i belive this will furthermore fill up when future Android 2.x update arrives.
Cheers!
hi, i also have same question..
i recently installed program called "Android System Info"
it clearly says :
Internal Memory
Max: 465.0Mo Free: 336.9Mo
RAM
Max: 268Mo Free: 87Mo
you see is not 1 GB internal memory...., is this another lack from 1.6 android????
I don't know about 1Gb internal but i know that android 1.6 can access only 268Mb memory and after the upgrade to 2.x the phone will have access to all 384Mb of RAM.
Are you talking about the 1GHZ of processor confusing it with 1Gb internal storage?
I beleive so..
rogers site shows 1gb internal as well gsm arena shows it as 1gb internal memory

yeah that what i mean...
in gsm arena site it says 1 Gb internal memory.....
rumours say the ram is 512mb, others say 256mb, some say 192mb, tmobile.com doesnt say anything..
does anyone have an answer for me? this is a perfect phone, the htc magic with a flashlight, 3.5mm jack, and a keyboard plus it works with wind mobile in canada..
but i dont want a slow device, 32b magic boards are terribly slow with just 192mb and my 32a magic is pretty decent with 256..if this device has 600mhz processor with 512mb ram then it should be flying..
Thats part of the mystery. The phone supposedly has 512 internal, but a lot of it is used up by the Sense bloat, and by a lot of the TMobile stuff here in the States. Mine out of the box had roughly 150mb internally available , and I am down to about 100mb free with some apps installed.
With that said, this thing is still pretty darn snappy. And when 2.2/Froyo comes along, it will have apps2sd available, which will help increase your internally available memory too. I'd say to go to a store and check it out, you'll be surprised how fast it is.
Reviews are claiming this phone runs faster then all the other android phones out there right now. Even with all the crap you can't uninstall from t-mobile its still very fast. I have yet to experiance any noticable lag.
No regrets here, I am glad my mytouch 3g died
145 m available for programs after hard reset....at least that's what mine had!
Android System Info on mine says 419MB of RAM. In the Slide's owner's manual it says 512MB of RAM.

Well the 145mb is how much internal storage you have for apps. It does have 512 for RAM. If I kill all my apps that are running I would have 250+ of RAM free. And this phone flies. I might kill all apps once a day and the phone stays fast at even 60mb of RAM free. No worries.

i think the rom is colossal at 300MB + causing us to only have 150 free
im at 0 free no more apps unless i uninstall. and the phone still flys
The phone is snappy.

Yes i'm outta internal storage as well.need an apps2sd solution or root to remove all this bloatware.
RAM and storage are two completely different things. It has 512MB of both. Mine is showing 418MB of system ram, the rest presumably used for video, and the storage is partitioned into /system, /cache, and /data which is all that is usable for apps.
so after start-up, how much internal storage do you still have?
on average how much more storage space do you have after you install your essential apps.
i think im still going to need an external memory card, but if theres enough on board, i won't need as high of a capacity
the storage space varies from 2 GB to 16 GB depending on the model you purchased
I know there is 1.5GB of internal memory on the device, but since some is used for OS, how much usable memory is there in the stock OS. I am trying to think of if I should get the Desire HD or Inspire 4g (I recently found out that even though the Inspire has 4GB of ROM, only about 1GB is usable)
Thanks!
Its about 1gb but i think most of them are shipped with an 8gb sd card, mine came with the card so not really worried.

That's approximately 1.1GB ( I forgot the exact number closest to megabytes) out of the box.
If I get the 5G plus with 64 GB of storage, and install a custom rom. Will I loose the additonal storage or keep it.. I'm thinking on getting the one with the 64 GB internal storage and the 4GB ram. Thanks
custom roms are generally smaller than stock roms, so you will have extra space if you completely remove the stock rom
Personally, I was less concerned about the storage (especially because we have a microSD slot!) and more concerned about 2 GB vs 4 GB RAM. Ultimately, the 2 extra GB of RAM is what made me get the 64 GB version, and I would say that the additional RAM is without a doubt worth it and noticeable coming from a 2 GB LG G Flex 2.
Well finally got my phone. Picked it up at Fry's electronics for $199. It's the 64gb version. Once I play with it a few days, I will have it rooted. One thing I notice no volte with stock. Or is it Sprint controlling it, once it was activated on their network.

In Europe we have a 32GB\3GB ram with adaptive memory.
It's not that bad with a Samsung PRO micro SD since you have three slots, two for nano sim and one for micro SD.
So strange lenovo sell a 2gb version...
