its damn slower than my htc evo shift...seriously not like in opening app and other stuff like launcher but in typing and touching screen have to press lil bit twice almost most of the time..charging slower than my htc shift...and it eats up all the ram everytime i open and see in task killer only shows 60m..where in shift it was always around 80 to 90m remaining same apps and everything infact not running any htc apps..and no notification lights no for charging and non for text or anything
i would suggest you guys to stick with shift and just dont worry too much about updates..wish htc had made this one too just like nexus one

LMAO!!..
When I leave this phone, it will be multi core(so not a nexus s), it will not have a locked/cryptographic signed loader(so not an evo 3d), and it will preferably be a four inch or smaller screen (I may have to concede on this one though the way they are going)

Wouldn't get my hopes up for Honeycomb, Google pretty much stated HC is tablet only and Ice Cream Sandwich is going to replace both Honeycomb & Gingerbread by the end of the year. So more then likely we'll get ICS long before we see HC for phones.

I'm guessing you had a Moment? The Transform is actually pretty nice for a low to mid level device.
I would also have to agree that when I switch from my shift a dual core is a must. As far as the Nexus S I wasn't impressed by it's design nor its specs. No expandable memory being on of the biggies. And no improvement in processor versus previous galaxy s phones, not 100% sure. I can't see what this device has that makes it superior to others, rather than just being vanilla android.
I'm not happy with Samsung's plasticy feel of their devices either. Makes them feel cheap. I do like the AMOLED screens but not the dotted effect that some (including me) can see.
However, I am seriously giving the Galaxy S II phones consideration when choosing my next device. Specs wise seems rather nice. Has dual core processor, nice camera, and expandable memory. And the Super Amoled Plus screen seems to correct the dotted effect of the previous Amoled screens as the rgb colors are evenly presented.

You my friend need to root your phone. Secondly, the nexus S 4G has not been out very long, and samsung is typically slow on the updates. I do not know if you ever had an EVO 4G (not shift), but when i originally had mine, it was absolutly horrible in terms of responsiveness and battery life (battery still sucks). This was 3 months after its release.
Why is this in the shift forum? Not to be an ass but I don't think this is necessary or productive. We need an offtopic forum lol

This is just a guess, but I think ALOT when on behind the scenes on the Nexus that we don't know about. I mean how would google allow their flagship phone to come out with technology that is outdated by almost a year? I think this phone was in development, and got held up, and by the time assembly on it started it was too late to scrap it. That's why there is another rumored Nexus that should be ready come Holiday season. Have to make up for your mistake somehow.

Yea I agree with you. I didn't think Google would have purposefully put out a technologically inferior flagship device unless they had issues while developing.
If other galaxy s phones are any indication, probably took that long to get gps working.

If the 3D is locked down the way they say it is, flashaholics will either have to go through rehab, or get another maker's phone that isn't so locked down.
Yes. If the 3D is locked down. Coupled with Sammys new desire to change their bad rep.. with the Galaxy S looking to be one of the first phones officially Upgraded to GB. This phone is looking SO much better.
I just REALLY hope it doesn't have a crappy physical keyboard. I want it just the way it is. Sammy phones also have excellent battery life right out the box so waiting for a solid root method/custom roms/kernels won't be an issue.
3D is a gimmick at best. If the Samsung's battery life is significantly better than that of the EVO 3D, I'll have no choice. For me, personally, performance, battery life, and display quality are the most important things on a smartphone. The SII was overclocked to 1.5GHz yielding 4000+ Quadrant scores. That's impressive. The battery life is also pretty good coming from some reviews. I feel the 3D feature and camera on the new EVO will guzzle that battery. And I don't care how good qHD is, that Super AMOLED Plus 4.3" screen is pure sex. The slimness of the SII doesn't hurt either. I don't know about you, but I'm somewhat over my EVO's shape/style... hoping for something different and the EVO 3D doesn't really offer that.

While I agree about the 3D portion being a gimmick. It won't be killing the battery unless you're using it.. which is optional. I doubt people that think of it as a gimmick will use it much.
I am 100% with you on your points tho. Performance, battery life, display quality are most important. Samsung repairing their rep is also really starting to win me over. My mom has the mesmerize... that thing looks awesome and has excellent battery life. Plus she is about to get a GB update...
I love HTC.. but I just feel liek the new Sense 3.0 will bring the same poor battery life even with a bigger battery. It may be a little better.. but prolly not much. If the bootloader is encrypted.. then forget about it.

I somehow don't think it will tho. The commercial I seen on youtube was showing off how thin it was by sliding it under a door... I would hope they don't plan on killing that by adding a keyboard.

I'd take this over the 3d. HTC seems to always have battery issues with every phone, and I know they did with every phone I or a friend has had. Couple that with a locked down bootloader and this guy is going SGII (as long as the build quality is good).

There is no physical keyboard, the phone is just 0.33 inches thick (Evo is 0.47"). You just had to click the link in the first article and you get a full review of the phone:

Yes, it was the same way on the Galaxy S 1. Once it came to the US, each major carrier got a different version. Verizon/Us Cellular looked about identical with AT&T varying only a little.
As we know, the Sprint Epic 4G was the bastard child of the galaxy S line... horrible.
I am getting tired of waiting for a new phone, and am interested in getting the LG G2x. I understand it has its issues, but im willing to give it a shot, plus i will be putting CM7 on, which I believe fixes some of the said issues.
But my question is, how is the display (screen) of the LG in comparison to the Super Amoled of the Vibrant.
Is the Vibrant Significantly better? are they similar?
Any input would be appreciated.
Regards,
i have had both. vibrant and g2x. im going to go stick to my vibrant.

Us Galaxy S users have gotten spoiled by the AMOLED screen, I could never use another device that didn't have one, I even find the screen on the iPhone 4 to be lacking, but thats personal opinion.
As for upgrading to the G2x, save your cash and upgrade, my mother has one, basically no difference from the vibrant, except the lack of the AMOLED, which is the first thing you notice.

I was going to ask about the gps. I am really getting tired of not having a phone with a gps that I can trust to take me to my destination. I had the G1 and the HD2 and could trust both of those phones to take me to ther right place and not lose the signal 10 times on the way.
Working GPS doesn't mean a whole lot if the phone reboots or hard freezes to the point of requiring a battery pull at least 5 times a day.
I went through FOUR G2x's in a month and each and every one of them had the same problems...
I tried all of these:
Stock
Stock with absolutely no apps installed except for what came from the factory.
Stock with root
Stock with root , again with nothing but what came from the factory and superuser.
Custom ROM with root
CM7 with root
Under ALL of those conditions it had the same problems.
They should have named it the LG Crash-o-matic.
I'll take my Vibrant any day of the week over it.
By the way - don't let the "speed" fool you - they actually sped up the speed of the animations to make it look like it was faster.

actually my gps works fine (well as good as a vibrant can be expected to. on cm7 and i bought my vib on release date), since you didn't pick up on the obvious sarcasm....
I just got a G2x a few days ago and updated to official Gingerbread right away. So far, I have not experienced a single freeze or reboot. The GPS locks almost right away. I came from the Samsung Mesmerize (Galaxy S, SCH-I500) which had a TERRIBLE GPS.
As for the screen, the Mes may have been a little better but honestly the G2X still has a fantastic screen, one of the better ones. It's an IPS LCD just like the iPhone 4.
And the phone is FAST.

Umm, really? The Vibrant is a wonderful phone, but it's not nearly as powerful as the G2X. OP: Go to your local t-mobile store and compare the two side by side for yourself. That's the only way you'll know. But as others have said, unless you're going to another Samsung device, prepare to get a crummier screen.
I love everything about my new sensation, but I really miss SAMOLED.

Playing with the phone at the store and having one in your possession for more than just a few minutes are two TOTALLY different things... Sure, it may have a 1000 horsepower engine, but when it's running with only 1 quart of oil when it's supposed to have 4 or 5, things aren't going to run right.
The phone may be powerful, but it's a piece of junk when you get right down to it.
Yeah the screen on both phones are great, but why sacrifice a small screen difference for stock gingerbread, raw power (tegra 2 dual core) and a better camera, capable of 1080p. The gingerbread update fixed almost every single problem. The phone just flies. Yes our phones are great and I love the vibrant, but if you're looking for a powerhouse update soon, I'd go for the g2x

i had sensation as second phone so i would like to share my feelings.
I purchased this flagship from HTC having HTC desire S, and also HD. Desire S is owned by my wife atm and she is happy enough. so i like HTC - thats for start
First feelings - impressed- nice phone. Got it - charged to full and lets rock!
Booting and starting to check out system. after 1 hour with screen on + wifi my battery went down to 35% - i say ok its the first cycle lets wait. - after one week its the same. if u wanna watch movie in plane while flying for about 2 hours u better take spare battery - not saying there is no divx support at all.
- keeping sync on gmail and just stand by eats the battery about 10% a hour! not touching the device at all.
-i though ok, lets live with pure battery anyway. but then it started. while holding the phone in landscape - death grip is saying HELLLOOOO i am here! loosing conectivity is normal - wifi disapear - signal went down 2. amazing. i coudlnt believe it. i had never suffered from anything like that -talking about HTC.
-web browsing - no hardware acerelation at all means opening web sites with heavy flash content is taking ages. not mentioning zoom in or out during the stream. while SGS2 can keep streaming during the zooming interval without any lags or issues! i was disapointed a badly. i can see small plus with the resolution - u can feel small diference - i mean better - sharper pages. but not brigther or lighter - the display is so reflective that u can use it as mirror and using the phone under direct sunnlight is almost impossible. so one more +handy mirror
someone rings you? hm how can u hear the phone if the volume set on max is extremly low - even my dog cant hear it!!! if u wanna share some youtube video with your friends they gotta put thems ears on the back panel in order to enjoy it. another disapointment - a big one. not speaking about the quality of the speaker (poor anyway) its about the noise level - being extremly low.
i said ok i like HTC so lets find something i can like/enjoy and finally be happy about.
camera/compare to SGS2 is a bit disapointing again. double flash doesnt help. i could paint better pics then sensation can make. i mean it.macro? what is it?
so i kept going and trying - still searching with hope i will like something.
i though ok i will use it as gps navigation in car at least. lol what a fail. after 4 hours on gps battery dead! maybe i am gonna develop double car charger 2in1 in order to keep sensation alive.
no i am not HTC hater at all. but the huge disapointment that HTC made this time is deadly bad. They made nice looking compact device without brain. its like ferrari with skoda engine and seats from seat. i though it will bring something extraordinary and special - even after installing costum roms - the battery improved and speed 2 - not browsing speed and the battery went up from 8 hours moderate use to 8 hours and 10 min - not mentioning juice defender on at all the times ofc.
so i just changed the sensation on local advertising web site for another SGS2 - u set the add and then meet the possible costumer in person.
and i told the guy that i made the deal with him - lets exhchange hurry - and now i will tell u what u did. U could see his frozen face! He become my friend now and after having almost all previous HTC devices he said he wont come back untill something better will be developed - on HTC side.
SO happy days guys here. And just small tip - sensation is the only one device getting closer in terms off hardware to SGS2 - but the reall power of SGS2 is deep in THE SKY!
I hope this will help some people with doubs about battery life and performance issues.
Once again - i have nothing against HTC and i like them, but i believe they didnt set up sensation well atm. looking at stats list it should perform much better then it does. just quick example - i dont like quadrant or bench tests once its fast and smooth i dont need any bench to confirm that. but the highest i could get from sensation was 3400 on quandrant with 1600 OC!!!!! lol
so i will end this with words;
HAPPY BRIGHT DAYS WITH SAMSUNG
forgive me for my broken english

The Sensation is seeming more and more like an interim flagship. The E3D already has more RAM and from everything posted Sense 3.0 is a pig and needs all it can get. The Vigor on Verizon is going to have a full 720p display and a 1.5ghz processor. The Holiday on AT&T is going to have a 4.5" qHD display and also 1GB of RAM. By the end of the year the Sensation's going to be forgotten.

I've only just recently jumped onto android after owning every iphone, the sensation was a handset I was considering but reviews put me off.
The two things that made me avoid it were the lack of amoled, and the apparent locked bootloader.
I never got round to playing with a sensation as the store had no demo models.

If I had to guess, I'd say either a SGS2.5 or SGS3 will be out before the holidays. The Nexus 3/Prime is supposed to be out in October and the advances I mentioned above in the two HTC phones will probably prompt Samsung to release something higher end. Think about this though. They just updated and are continuing to sell a version of the SGS1 and it's been out for over a year. So the SGS2 may not be state-of-the-art by Christmas but it should still very much be current.
honestly i believe u can use SGS2 for about an year - untill another companies will reach its level. and SGS2 will last on the top untill SGS3 will be released. and the date inst confirmed yet. but SGS1 is still a good phone. if u dont have enough money or dont wanna waste it just stay where u ar and wait for bargain to upgrade.

That's one thing I find overwhelming coming from apple phones, android has so many handsets running so many different versions of the operating system.
With an apple handset you're pretty much fine for a year, though you have to put up with the restrictive nature of ios.
Ah well either way I'm going to try and keep hold of this handset for 12 months, unless something really tempts me to "upgrade"

I appreciate the OP's comments as I have been wondering how the HTC sensation fares compared to the SGS2. I also find it funny that the HTC battery seems to be a little worse than SGS2 especially given the complaints by some SGS2 users about battery life. I can watch about 5 hours of video on mine no problem.

I have the Sensation as well and the battery life on it is pretty bad. On the SGS2 with moderate to heavy use I get about 16-18 hours. WIth the Sensation it's a miracle if I get 10. There are two things about the Sensation that are better than the SGS2 and only one is of any practical significance. The first is the HTC keyboard. The auto-correct function on the HTC device is excellent and is far better than Samsung's stock keyboard. The other is weather. No one comes close to what HTC has done with their weather UI. It's nice eye candy but that's about it.

I wouldnt know what to feel if something new and better comes out before the end of the year, If they are going nvidia quadcore (Kal-El) then its highly possible they are gonna out a 720P screen as its been in production already.. I wonder if they improved anything aside from bumping the res.
The SGS1 was the fastest phone for almost a year when it got released. NOTHING from the competition could compare when it came down to pure specs last year.
The Desire HD and iPhone 4 were the closest competition, and the SGS1 always won out in benchmarks and in IRL usage.
I would say that the SGS2 will probably not be trumped until early next year. The Nexus Prime will probably have similar innards as the SGS2

iRL usage there are some few aspects the the Iphone4 is faster but other usage scenarios the S1 was faster and was even far more functional than the Iphone4.
Im pretty sure Iphone5 will be targeted to compete with the S2, Infact I even wish the Iphone5 would be better + faster in the majority of tests so that Samsung and Google can hurry up ang release the S3 and ICS.

Sorry if its a repost. So whos going to upgrade!

Im not biased to any phone. I like anything new and high powered. Cant get me wrong I love my Atrix but the Galaxy S II is tempting.
i'm pretty happy with my Atrix, i think i'm gonna hold off on upgrading until a decent quad core phone comes out on the market.
Not enough of an upgrade to think about it.
The Devs have really just started to take this phone to its capabilities so worth hanging in for a while longer.

When the SGSII came out back in... May(ish), it seems liked I should have not gotten an Atrix and waited for the SGSII to come to AT&T. the SGSII had a bigger screen, faster CPU, no Blur, no locked bootloader, and already had a pre-beta of Cyanogen out within two weeks of the phone hitting the international market.
Fast Foward to today. The Atrix has an unlocked bootloader, a *solid* beta of CM7, MIUI in the works, a bigger battery, and the performance is close to that of the SGS (in CM7 while OC'd) - in some tests it is noticeabley faster.
The SGSII also seems to have some hardware issues that have been reported. Yellowing of the screen on the left side is the most reported issue.
Now look to the future because the SGSII isn't going to come out for another two weeks. Should we have all waited to get an SGSII? No way, not IMHO. I was sitting on an iPhone 3GS for months and months after I was eligible for an upgrade, I was just waiting until something big came out or the phone died. I'll be honest, at first I did regret my Atrix purchase at times. Software versus 4.1.26 had a TON of bugs in it, 4.1.57 did too. 4.1.83 was solid, and when we got GB the phone was pretty solid. Now with CM7 I have no complaints over the phone at all, and I'm glad I didn't suffer with my iPhone 3GS for the last 7 months (I bougt the Atrix on release day) waiting for the SGSII after returning the Atrix to wait for the SGSII.
If I had waited this long for the SGSII with my iPhone 3GS, I would likely pass up the SGSII and wait for more info on the Nexus Prime.

One thing I don't miss going from my captivate to atrix is in the power usage menu "display" being like 95%. I don't know why they say SAMOLED use less power. I know the screen on the sgs and sgs2 is different but they're close enough IMO. Also after all the BS with GPS and poor update from Samsung I don't know if I could buy another. As far as specs....IMO I don't think it's worth the upgrade the specs are really similar. The only reason I might be tempted is for the dev support.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
as someone who has had both i can assure you the atrix is a much more all-around solid piece of hardware.
like reported above the screen on the SGSii may be bigger but it has its issues (yellow left on most handsets and battery consumption).
the battery is simply way worse then atrix.
and what got to me the most about going back to the atrix was the sound quality, it was simply horrendous, especially for a high-end phone like that.
the sound chip on it is sub-par compared to the original SGS even, with high end headphones i was getting distortions, low volume, and very un-even sound, to anyone who wants to listen to music on his phone this one simply kills the deal.
atrix has a very very good audio experience compared.
same goes for call quality.
and the phone doesnt even have a led for notifications.
also doesnt have an hdmi-out without you buying some special cable adapter.
what does seem to be on its side is a huge dev base working on it and realeasing things daily but the atrix is starting to catch up... just give it some time.
either way upgrading from a atrix to a galaxy 2 is pretty stupid, except for a bit larger screen you really dont get anything in return for all that cash.
i'd wait atleast another year before ditching the atrix. theres simply nothing today that it cant handle so why buy another "future proof" phone when your current one is still "future proof"
Definitely sticking with my atrix <3

It appears to have a lot of dev support, but how many of those ROM's are the exact same thing with a different theme? That's the way the Captivate was until CM7 dropped...everything was the same.
I'll stick with the Atrix.

... the screen on the SGSII is so lustworthy... it oozes awesomeness. Other then that --- Atrix is better IMO.
i want both.
iphone5 too if its nice.
i just upgraded this july so no sgsII for me. the galaxy was going to be my upgrade, but it just took too long to come out. also, it's not gonna be the latest and greatest anymore like it would've been when it came out internationally, the sgsIII will probably be out internationally in 6 months since most phone lines get upgraded yearly.
my friend mentioned the PS Vita yesterday and i'm doing research on that to see if it has enough functions to become a phone for me.

I'd rather have an atrix with an average screen than have a SAMOLED that destroys my battery. I have an upgrade available and being 100% honest I'm waiting for a new BB QNX mobile phone to drop next year. The new 9810 with os7 was actually a pretty big step forward in speed and functionality and supposedly QNX will be able to run Android apps as well. Not saying it's gonna be the king of phones but it looks pretty cool.

My wife is getting it in October, about 2 weeks after it comes out. She is already in love with it and the fact that we are getting the NFC enabled version made her happier. She's almost as big a nerd as I am. (I'm not allowed to touch it, she wants to do everything on her own)

isn't the sgs2 screen still 800 x 480?
I have the infuse plus an atrix, while the screen on the infuse is so sexy,, the atrix for me has the total package,, the sgs2 for me is not that much of a upgrade from my atrix, even the infuse for that matter, sure it has godly specs, but in real world usage, even my old ass dinc still get the job done,,
I dont like where the smartphone market is heading.. things need to slow back down. alittle,, before you know it, the atrix 3 will be out 3 months after the atrix 2 at the end of the year, lol

yeah i forgot about that lower rez -- UGH -- why put it out at a lower rez then qHD? COME ON SAMMY.
The newer Super AMOLED Plus displays have more sub-pixels and they do not use pentile anymore which also helps eliminate the "grainy" look. I would still like to see qHD but I don't think there is going to be much to complain about on these screens.

Since HTC decided to not make physical keyboards anymore, I was very let down. I tried out there ONE series and was greatly disappointed. I always felt HTC was the leader in Andriod based phones, but I feel like Samsung is taking the lead. ( I know, it took me awhile to admit this to myself)
Anyhow, I took the leap to the Samsung Galaxy SIII and I am really enjoying it. I have been using swift key app, which I am typing like a maniac on it and spells everything perfectly.
Ever since removing the service from my G2, I have been using it for an alarm clock. HOLY COW how much the battery life is when there is no data or service! It has been 5 days and I am at currently 79 percent battery.
I used the keyboard today after a week of not using it and wow I do miss it. What are you guys waiting for next? Is anyone jumping ship as well? I feel like there won't be any top tier phones with a physical keyboard anymore.
I'm also getting s3 technically I can't upgrade till Sept but I'm gonna call to see if they allow early extension on contract. I still love my keyboard but I can manage to live without it since the new phone has a huge screen

Actually I am jumping on the ship! I have a G2 in the mail. I loved my G1 and the form factor of a trackpad, qwerty. I dont think I'd like the massive screen phones. So my plan is use the G2 until my dream phone (ie G3) comes out (if it does). Otherwise I did try the Galaxy Nexus and was quite impressed. Rumor has it that google has 4/5 new nexus phones planned for november, so I am crossing my fingers and toes one of them is a qwerty..

You are still on G1?....holy...I played with my G1 the other day, I can't believe how slow it is!
I had a Galaxy Note for 1 1/2 month and returnd to my Desire Z.
The Note hardware is great and the size of the display is fun to work with, but I missed my hw kb. I thought with a really big screen I dont need it, but its just not the same feeling...
Besides that, I dont like the storage management on Samsung phones.
And to my surprise, I do not need the dual core power.
The DZ ist really fast enough for all my needs

Thinking about doing the same before G2 resale values drop even more (they sell for like ~$130 tops right now).

I've tried Samsung S3 the other day and the screen was not that bad. Although text did look jagged at the edges.
Still doesn't beat One X in colour and angles.
Wow...my g2 just want out and was debating on the s3 or one s.
Im worried that the s3 overall size is too big to put in your pockets.
How do you like yoursonthe size?

I switched to the HTC raider/vivid because; 1 - My Desire Z decided it was going to stop accepting sd cards put into the slot (and yes I tried different sd cards and even replaced the sd card holder). 2 - I needed a large screen phone for my work because I work with a lot of excel spreadsheets.
Needless to say, after half a day and my battery already dead, I longed for my good old "Zed" back. I found someone who had smashed their screen and rebuilt the phone from two defective phones. I'm sorry baby, I won't leave you again! (Till a better solution comes along)
I'm sticking with my Desire Z from here on out until I find a better phone. Something with a keyboard or a better keyboard solution. Also it's got to have expandable memory and a good battery life.
Unfortunately my Z took a tumble down the stairs last night so I went and found an S3 on the local online classifieds. Not sure I like the no keyboard part of it all but I supposed I'll learn to adjust. So long Zed I'll miss you and the great people in these forums.
