That's not true .. TW has NextGen and NextGen 2 .. get it from ROM Manager.
There are people from Team Whiskey who are very cool and helpful.
Not sure why sombionix is singled out here. That guy is a ghost. If you like the new ROMs, you should change the title.

Instead of hanging on one persons nuts why don't you thank the whole team whiskey. You might want to take into consideration that other team whiskey members might read this. I am not saying that his work isn't good but you shouldn't single out one person on a whole team when all of them have a hand in developing the roms.

Sorta was I was getting at... just tried to be nicer about it, ha.
Here's an idea. Showing that your thankful is nice but it's done everyday. Mostly as a means of being polite but you can really thank a person or a team of developers by donating. Many of us developers have very busy lives. Then we come home from our jobs just to get private messages and read stuff like "I'm having problems" and "When is the next update?" etc, etc. Obviously they are going to concentrate on what's more important to them. Family, friends, work, religion, other hobbies, etc. Reading a bunch of thank you's are nice don't get me wrong... but it's the e-mail from Paypal that really makes us smile. Now am I saying that it's why we (developers) do what we do? Absolutely not! It's a hobby for us really. And it's a hobby that we decide to share (not sell) with the community. But it stops being a hobby when we start working just to please everybody else. Many of us give it up after a while because we get tired of all of the endless requests, complaints, problems, etc and let's face it... when you have 100 thank you's and 1 complaint... you tend to concentrate more on that complaint because you want to please everybody which obviously cannot be done.
Guys. I [me. My opinion. Not yours. Not hating. MY opinion] did not like frost. I am running nextgen but it is just missing that indescribable something. That something is usually in som's roms.
So I thanked him on the internet and got **** on for doing it.
Congrats in your life, thanks TW for all the work and i'm looking forward to see what he's cooking up next.

Okay I understand where the op is going with this but at the same time, any rom that sombionix creates, he does not do so on his own. You have to understand though op, he has a TEAM of people that are helping him. That's why you got flamed almost instantly, because you can't just thank one person on a WHOLE TEAM for a piece of work that came from ALL OF THEM. Even if he was the biggest contribution of that one rom, he still had a TEAM of people helping him. Get it now ? Also hence the name TEAM WHISKEY, he doesn't have that in his signature for no reason.

It's the internet and I'll troll if I want to.
I donate whenever possible (although I admit its not much or as often as I would like) and suggest everyone else do as well. I sometimes try to donate to one person specifically just to find that all their donation links are for the team they dev for and they don't have a personal one. I kinda like that cuz it supports the whole dev team but at the same time sometimes I do wanna give thanks to a specific person. My first ROM I ever flashed was Nero and I will never forget that.
I really hope nobody takes offense to this thread as I believe it was created with no harm in mind. I do appreciate all the hard werk our Devs, themers, hackers, and hobbiest's do for us here at XDA for our beloved Samsung Vibrant. Good luck!

+1 wait for our devs to bring us great things for froyo. If what your looking for is not there in the next weeks or months, then ask.. There is a great possibility that they already know what froyo needs.. I'm sure voodoo and a proper cwm will be first on their list... Then cleaning, fixing, and getting rid of the verizon spy..
Just give them some coffee money to keep them on the fascinate band wagon..and hope it keeps them from jumping on the new dual core phones coming out soon

Agree completely. I saw requests yesterday evening on the forums, which is absurd. You can't expect the devs to get a froyo leak working AND release a complete library of froyo themes and ROMs on the same day. I'm sure within the next few weeks there will be MORE than enough ROMs and themes to go around.

Just because someone requests something does not mean they expect it, much less immediately. Perhaps there have been some rude people who did give off such an attitude, but it's hardly fair to lump the properly appreciative and understanding folks in with them.

+1 I've been watchin these forums for a little over a month just waitin for froyo... Im thrilled ****less in 3 days from the official 2.2 leak and we're going to have what 4 diff ROMS... I dont think devs mind bug reports the first while, then maybe some suggestions. If your going to request I'd suggest attatch that to a donation towards there time and hard work...

Actually it does matter. Attitudes like this and "angry mob" threads will just scare people off or prevent them from posting for fear of being pounced on. Not the best way to foster a community. And I can't speak for XDA as I rarely post here, but PLENTY of people on another board I frequent have not been shy with their praise of devs and contributors. Just because there aren't specific threads for it doesn't mean no one gets thanked
But anyway just my two cents. You may all resume burning effigies.

That's entirely possible, and if I've offended anyone then I do apologize, I just don't see the harm in people (politely) requesting ports of this or that theme. It gives the devs/modders a good idea of what's popular and therefore what to focus on if they feel so inclined.
If the offense scares noobs from posting where's my froyo? I'm willing to do it.
I'm tired of the honeycomb and gingerbread threads...
If it scares them to simply searching and reading threads, than I'm willing to take the hit as an offensive member... It's rediculous how many noobs think they are obligated. If someone needs help, they can follow the proper channels rather than posting on development forum where everyone is eagerly waiting for the latest and greatest...

This I agree with, I see no harm in people requesting themes, like someone else said it is good to know what is popular, it's not like most are trying to demand it or expect it to happen immediately.
People asking about Gingerbread and Honeycomb is a little crazy, while I think they should search but it really doesn't bother me all that much. Worse case scenario answer them or don't.

Man that really sucks. I don't post here often but I check in on xda every time I have a free minute. You guys are all great at developing but ptfmedic has always stood out to me not just because of his roms but because he always seems to be very helpful and very patient with the questions around here. Genuinely seems like a great guy. I have also followed his blog on many occasions and yes a lot of it is vey touching. If he has to go I'm sure he will be missed by many.
My question is (without knowing any details about his situation) Is there enough members in the Epic forums to make a one time say $5 or $10 donation to a save ptfmedics Epic fund. Seems like he goes through a lot on a daily basis and that phone could be his only outlet. I hope I am not out of line even suggesting this but I hate to see such a valued member of this community have to leave.

Read his blog. It will give you a huge insight into his life and the daily battles he goes through. I've been lucky enough to be on his beta test team since version 2.6. In that time I got to know him as a person and not just as a member of the forums and rom chef, and for that I feel like I've been very lucky.

Please stop with the dumb comments against the devs. This is totally uncalled for and should stop now. I am someone who really enjoy's coming to this site. I come here to read, learn and always am looking for new fun things to flash.
IMO all the devs here are amazing and remember they do this all for free, They dont have to give us nothing but they give us amazing Roms, Kernels and Themes to make our phones better and allows us to customize it how we like. You are all entitled to an opinion but if you have nothing nice to say then you should'nt say it. Dont start crap because your Rom hasnt been updated in a few days, you know the devs are working on it and will release it after its been tested. I know i want something tested before i flash it and i would think you would also. So lets remember we all are here for the same reasons and i would like to make sure the devs know we appreciate them and all they do for us. I dont want devs to start getting pissed and say forget you all so lets try being nicer to them.

The developers here have made your devices so much better than they are stock. they spend countless hours fixing what the carrier and manufacturer screwed up in the first place and pawned off on us as GOOD STUFF Every time I have Questions or Issues with something it has been a developer who helped me, so in return they get all my support. Then I take what I already knew and what I learn here and apply it to helping other who are not at the level i am yet. So if this forum is dedicated to making things better for your devices and your understanding of those devices and its OS, which they MOST definitely ARE, why not show support and ask for help if something is going wrong or you don't understand, most of us are truly here to help. Instead of complaining and bashing do some research and find out how to help yourself, who knows, you might get so addicted to it you become a developer yourself.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you. Also, remember to not be frustrated when they can't instantly solve a problem. There is a reason that they make the roms, and you don't. Most people are busy.. maybe they have a job, family, and/or school. The fascinate really has talented people working on it. We are some of the lucky people that flash new toms and kernels without a locked bootloader.

Just curious, but where did you see anyone bashing a developer? The only bashing i have ever seen in the fascinate forum was of people who post things that are obviously not their own work. A lot of comm rom supporters used to have bad attitudes towards nitro for including tsm parts in his rom, but he has gotten rid of those now so there is no reason to be mad at him.

Well there has been people coming into the posts and complaining that this Rom or theme hasnt been updated. i mean i am all for the newest updates to any of the Roms, themes, launchers and anything you all do for us. So basically i was just trying to put it out there that anyone who is not contributing to any dev or mods should just be patient and in time all their ROMS, Themes, CWM and everything that you all do will get done. I was just getting tired of people demanding stuff, i mean come on if you want something bad enough and you can't wait then oh well learn to do it yourself. There are plenty of people waiting for Comrom v 2.0 and they will have to wait until it has been tested and released, when it is it will be awesome b/c these good people who have jobs and lives outside of this posts are willing to do amazing stuff in their free time. I know your Tw4 is going to be awesome and you do amazing work.
I just want everyone to be nice to you all as they should be showing their appreciation instead of sometimes being asses to some of the devs. I didnt enjoy my phone when i first got it and now i love it because of all that you all do... I just wanted you all to know it and i hoped everyone else agrees with me.

He has also tweeted he is working on other phones still naming the project eternity. I really never seen anything from him but words, no results. Im not sad.
Great! Now we have lost a great dev because of a few assholes! Yes, we do still have great devs and with those devs, we will be ok. However, kholk has put a lot of work into the atrix and this is how we thank him? By running him away. He would have been a great contributor to the atrix! Just look at some other phones he has made ROMs and kernels for! He truly is a great dev and now he won't even be helping us! And I hope kholk sees this and comes back. These devs need to know that we appreciate then or they leave, like this! Everyone who appreciates the things he has done so far, comment here, show him we appreciate it and maybe, just maybe hell come back.

Didn't think so, therefore there should be less complaining and moaning and more "Keep your mouth shut". This is not directed at just those who bad mouth Kholk but at those who bad mouth everything that happens on this site.
If you want something done and it is not happening in a manner in which you would "LIKE" it done, then become a developer you lazy moochers. Other then that you should have complete patience as the developers here owe no one person anything. If you donated and you feel it was a waste, then why did you donate? better off with out the lot of you IMO who are always saying, "whats the status on the bootloader?", "When is CM7 being ported?", Why did I donate to see zero results?".. I don't know, why did you donate? hahah

Yes I have seen his other ROMS, but that does not help us here. I guess that tenfar, Sograth, eval_, unknown_, Edgan, The2dCour and many others have not done anything as amazing as kholk's work for the Atrix. O PLEASE COME BACK.

Stated like a pro! Your exactly correct! Kholk is only going to be the first to go if people don't straighten up! The atrix has taken a long time to be unlocked. A lot of devs are already working on phones that came unlocked that are already out! Don't push the great devs that we have now away! Also, I do believe this belongs in the dev section, the general section and every other atrix section! People need to express their gratitude and the devs need to see that they are greatly appreciated!

It's a shame a dev can be attacked like that by so many...its even more of a shame that a dev ( as hard as it can be ) can take all of those attacks to heart so much that they actually abandon their projects.
Sometimes dev forums can be like high school yes, however we are (mostly) adults here and insults and attacks should only be taken with a grain of salt... although some members can be huge troll's there does need to be some level of thick skinned'ness as an adult and some of us DO need to learn to let the majority of insults and attacks roll off of your back.
This is the real world folks and there are thousands of members in the Atrix community alone that don't understand how to code and program. As a result there will be harsh words spoken and as immature as they are you need to learn to let go.
There truly are more members here that aren't trolling and are extremely great-full for the work that devs put in since us (real) adults know that we would never be able to understand what and how you do things.
It's disappointing that he is no longer involved because of being perhaps a little sensitive to criticism and i hope kholk reads this so that he may come back with the understanding that there are just deuchbags in this world and there is nothing we can do about it and i think this goes for all dev's on any phone in any forum.
Kholk thank you for very much for your hard work that you put in. Know that it has not gone un-appreciated. There are just more people that appreciate it than don't.
On that note i end this rant in the hopes that more dev's don't jump ship due simply to the fact that there are people in this world that either simply don't have nice things to say, don't understand how difficult coding is and don't appreciate the hard work...
If you aren't good with criticism then perhaps you don't belong in a community where sharing your work is expected.

Well, as far as I can tell, kholk talked a lot about what he was working on but I don't know what he has accomplished. I'm not saying he accomplished nothing, I just have no idea what he actually did. From the results produced by the other devs for this phone, I am happy with the results and can suffer a tantrum.

I never said that! I have told every one of them that I appreciate what they have done! Everything each of them has done is great! I am saying that we need every dev we can get! I am not saying that kholk is any better than any of those guys. I am saying that we could have benefited from his developments. I, for one, don't want to see any of our devs go. EVERY ONE of then are great to have and do amazing things with such a complex device!

My point being is this. Alot of our community has put Kholk on this high pedestal. He gave us tidbits of information on things he was working on, but no results. I know its free (blah blah blah), but when you offer anything up, you should except criticism.
Everyone please take note. The majority of the criticism directed towards kholk was not from the screaming masses and idiots on xda, but from very well respected people in this community. If you have been on IRC, you know who I am talking about. I don't know if that changes anything in your eyes, but this is not an example of trolls driving a dev out.
Kholks problem was that he simply promised too much and didn't deliver. He asked for money as though his projects were mostly or partially complete, but never actually published them. I don't doubt that he is intelligent, he simply overreached himself on the ATRIX, and the community after a very long time, did backlash against him.

Hey Epic Community,
I'm starting up a donation fund that will allow us to buy Samsung Epic for a CM7/MIUI developer. Several members including me have pm'd devs like cyanogenmod and toastchf. As we are waiting confirmation, I thought we start off the donation drive in meeting our goal. Also fusingblackrose in the miui.us forums is also helping with a ASOP kernel for the epic. If you think there are other devs in the XDA community willing to help us out please let me know and I will see if they will support the Epic if we donate one to them.
Currently a used Epic on ebay is around $125 -/+ $10 at a good price.

hey Decad3nce, in no way am I trying to belittle your efforts and achievements because you have done a lot of work.. but this whole situation started out with several members wanted MIUI really bad. as miui/cm7 use same asop kernel, we thought a donating an epic to another dev would speed up and help your efforts?

I think they just assume that since your team isn't blabbering away on some cm7 thread that all plans have been abandoned.
Just let them be deca...there will be a lot of eggs on a lot of faces once you guys finish it. That alone should be plenty of motivation.

No it won't. It really won't.
I've personally exhausted half of teamhacksung in an attempt to refactor the gpio pins. toastcfh is and will always mainly be an msm arch guy, samsung epic is a completely different platform; he'd have to learn a whole new set up.
In case of MIUI "developers", they wait until we have our work done, and have a device repo merged into CM until they decide to support the device. They just take our work and merge it into their repo and start cranking out builds.
This **** you guys are doing is getting on my last nerves man. I know your intentions are good and you mean well, but god damnit. Money doesn't buy you support.

I mean this is a community of epic users. Not everyone knows whats going on with CM7 dev. and its hard to find answers unless you search through threads not even pertaining to epic cm7 or irc which i'm never on. A simple thread explaining what has and hasn't been done would make matters much more clearer. Also what harm would it do if we get one more dev on board?

Lol. As I am someone who is now a bit older than most on here, I have learned patience. I think some of the younger people on here don't have the patience and get more restless every time another phone gets Cyanogen. My name is on a donation list and I haven't even gotten paid yet..lol. I think the donation fund was started with the best intentions but we haven't hit a wall yet. Nullghost, DevinXtreme and Deca have repeatedly said they need the Gingerbread source to make things several times easier. Until that point comes and an impass is reached, we are kind of pissing into the wind. I can understand Deca's frusteration because, in a way, its like saying that our devs aren't good enough to get the job done. I don't think that's the case at all.

Oh hey man, I know you have good intentions and all but I do see the other side as well. Since the Epic is my first smartphone I have never even gotten to try Cyanogen or Miui before. I am sure they are great and I look forward to the chance to try both. I am sure it won't be much longer.

The real reason we don't have cm7 is not because of gb source... (if that were the case we SHOULD have had cm6 already), but the fact that samsung has poorly documented drivers for their hardware, and we are stuck guessing/emailing the actual hardware providers for chip layouts and certain calls and actions... HTC and other phones have all of that information well documented and the makers of the phone will actually help you instead of just saying "IDFK" cyanogenmod, miui, and aosp are all in the same boat as they all coincide with each other. It is bs because I know that unless we get this information, we probably won't ever get a fully functioning AOSP Kernel/rom... now, I took programming classes in college and I know the steps to developing something and how it works, but the gentlemen working on these ports asdfghjkl, ahgmsk, Decad3nce, epicCM team and more really do know their stuff. However, I really do think we need proffesional help. At this state, no amount of money, no amount of bickering, and no amount of ETA asking will help these things be developed... All they can do.. is wish and hope that the gb source will help.
Well the idea behind the donations I think is that many of our devs have either jumped ship to other phones or are banned from XDA, so new devs could help.
