Dunno, but I'm getting 10,000. Although some tests pull 6-7mb/s.... It ranges from 6-10mb/s. Can't wait for the next speed update! I'll drop my comcast cable if this thing breaks 20.
He might be over 10,000...
However in the end it's still over 9,000!!!!
Yeah but this upload sucks my n0000000000ts
Actually I'm beginning to think that they programmed this phone to show H even if it's on plain 3g. Sometimes I actually only get 3.87MB/s which makes me think I 'unlatched' from HSPA+. My Vibrant on the i9000 ROM switched from 3g to "H" often.

Usually it is because you went somewhere else and your phone hasn't locked on to you since you got back. For example, I'll travel to Dallas (I'm in Houston) and I'll update weatherbug to the Dallas area but if I go back to Houston and don't update my location via weatherbug or something it will show me 30 miles from the Dallas server.
Look at that...his 3g is faster than my wifi in my house...

Not true.
The current network limitation is 14.4 IIRC but if the network goes 21/24 or whatever it is... the G2 will go right along with it. Hence the HSPA+ moniker they are touting ever so much.

Nope. HSPA+ supports up to 21Mbps at present, but the chip in the G2 does a max of 14.4Mbps, as T-Mobile has stated since months before the launch (even before the G2 was announced they said it would be limited to 14.4). I suppose it is conceivable that a firmware upgrade would lift that limit, but I would not hold your breath.

Check under "special features." HSDPA 14.4 is supported. Nothing higher.
And I'm pretty sure that it's a hardware limitation of the chipset, so I don't think any type of firmware upgrade could increase that limit. I'm not 100% sure, though.
I hardly see the need for anything higher than 14.4 Mbps on a mobile phone anyway.

Well, on a technicality, T-Mobile doesn't have 4G (but then neither does anyone). However, yes, it is surprising that its only 7.2mbps down and 5.76 up, which doesn't seem like a big change from the Nexus One.
What's frustrating is that they might release this for T-Mobile now, and a few months later, they'll release an AT&T version, just like the N1. If its a Googlephone, why can't they make it pentaband 3G?!
On a side note, would have been nice if it had a LTE radio. Heck, even CDMA capability too.

its theoretical 21. the Mytouch4g and G2 carry HSPA+ but at a maximum possible of 14.4
This is a good illustration, you hear a lot of people complaining about the lack of HSPA+ support in the NS, but until I hear of people consistenly getting 7.2 on their devices, then will their complaints be warranted. I got 4.2 in Sherman Oaks.

No. I didn't mean to say that HSPA+ is capped at 7.2mbps, I was just saying that 5 mbps < 7.2... which the Nexus S and other non-HSPA+ devices' cap is at 7.2.
But yeah devices that supports HSPA+ (marketed as 4G) its 21mbps (theoretically)

support for HSPA+ is more of a future-proof feature and currently its not that important, but people that buy Nexus S usually keep it for a while and future-proofing is important especially that 4G phones are already available for cheaper price.

Oh hai, tethering
I do think that "4G" is just a marketing term really, and speed is relative. On our phones, a browser on 2Mbps will load just as fast as 5Mbps. As will Youtube and anything else that we do. Speed only makes a difference to those who tether IMO.

Well, just to be clear, kbps and kb/s are the same thing (as is kbit/s), at least according to my understanding and Wikipedia's entry on the subject. All three are obviously different than mb/s, and of course our phones are usually measured in Kb/s and Mb/s, which is different than the small k/m measurement.

From my understanding it should be. Our phone connect to hsdpa+
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
I hope so. When I'm connected to WIFI, my speed tests give me 20-22mbs down. On network I get 2-3mbs in my area. I hope there is no limitations or locks to these proposed speeds.
The G2's cellular radio is only capable of 14 Mb/s down.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
The phone only supports up to 14.4 mbps over the cell network (but faster over WiFi). This is a limitation of the Snapdragon platform, and all current Snapdragon phones have this limitation. The next generation 1.2 and 1.5 GHz Snapdragons (no phones with these yet) can handle cell data >14.4mbps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8324116&postcount=11
If I understand correctly, you will be compatible with the network, but capped by at 14.4 mbps.
The mobile network is limited to 14 mbps down. It won't get any better than that. The phone's hardware is limited to that.

their data network will always suck? ha just 2 years ago they were still on edge. i think that going from edge to 3g to 4g in a couple years, is pretty damn impressive. sure its not verizon 3g impressive, but verizon has a hell of a lot more money to throw around because of the sheep that want phones that are so locked down its ridiculous. its almost my fifth year anniversary of customizing my phone now.
We don't really get anything higher then 8mbps, so once they raise the the bar maybe we could hit that 14.4
Note that they are only talking about 21, NOT 42. The place the 42 comes from is what is called "dual carrier".... basically, if you have two phones that are each capable of 21, then add them together and you have 42. Now just take the parts out of the two phones and slap then into a single cover. There you go... a phone capable of 42.
The Vision hardware is definitely only capable of SINGLE CARRIER.... which means that it can't possibly get 42.
Note: I wouldn't completely rule out 21. It *is* amazing what software can do... I also wouldn't *expect* it.
And for that matter, I couldn't care less. 14.4 is very fast. I doubt that there is any actual use in going over that.... mainly just bragging rights.

Agree... T Mobile data does suck... Theres too many area still on E, or the Slower 3G. Im in a very popular state / city Nashville, TN and we barely have 4G here and the 3G are very slow and unstable, where as the other networks in my area have strong fast connection.
Even Cricket Wireless which to me is a cheap low end cell company has a faster more stable data connection in my area.
This is the Music Capitol of the country and barely got 4G / 3G here LOL...
They need to up it up in houston. It is very spotty. I get 4-5 sometimes but mostly 75% of the time i have 1mb and under. Not cool.

I agree... they need to work on expanding 3G coverage and phasing out 2G before jumping to beyond HSPA+ 21. More 3G coverage would relieve overcrowded existing 3G towers and therefore increase speed without an upgrade to HSPA+ 42... HSPA+21 is fast enough when towers are equaled out. On a normal 3G tower, I average 7-11Mbps down. Plenty fast, imo.

In the US (maybe elsewhere) there is a strange distinction where a 4G icon is sometimes used for HSPA+ 4G (or 3.5G, depending on who you ask) and an LTE icon is used for LTE 4G. Kinda silly, but it's become something of a "standard" here now. I think that's why it concerns some people, because they are worried their phone is only using HSPA+ and not LTE.

Yes Sir! But US carriers had a history of marketing 3.5G/HSPA+ as 4G (Xperia Play 4G!). So anyone over here would freak out after seeing a 4G icon on an LTE capable phone. But all US users are using imported Z2 at this moment - so I guess we just have to deal with it.
