Guys,
I'm looking into getting an Android (HTC Desire looks like the best Android machine but oh would love to be able to get hold of the Evo or similar).
A couple of grey areas I need to sort out are:-
1. Rich Text Format read & write.
2. Finance software.
Reference the Finance software, can anyone point me to having a read on what would be considered a suitable application that can allow me to use the finance program similar to how Cash Organizer on Windows Mobile works.
i.e. Have an index of Accounts, Register, Projects, Planner, Budget, Reports.
Accounts would list all the accounts.
Register would list all transactions within a particular account.
Projects ~ as it says.
Planner would list all future transactions so you can see at a glance what is coming out and what account it is going to.
Budget ~ as it says.
Reports ~ as it says.
My Brother who has a Desire tried briefly MyMoney but he told me it's not powerful enough.... however, I'd like to hear more on this from other users.
These two items are at the moment stopping me changing from Windows Mobile to Android.
If anyone can help it would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Anyone have any ideas??
Hi Beards
Currently I'm using Financisto. It has everything you mentioned except the planner part, which I miss too. But it links your money operations to location and you can see reports based on location. Check it out and tell me what you think. If you'll find a better app please let me know.

Many thanks Mantas for your contribution.
You mention there is no planner with this software. Unfortunately, this is one of the most important factors, as I need to be able to add all my monthly repeated outgoings so that the finance program will look at them on the specific date and automatically add the item to a named account.
At present all my testing has to be carried out on my Brother's Desire as I am still in the deciding factor on whether or not to ditch my Windows Mobile HD2 and move on up to Android.
Have you tried MyMoney or any other application.
I will however ask him to install Financisto and get him to show me what it can and can not achieve.
Thanks again.
Beards.
have you tried firewallet I installed it last night but not played with it yet.

I'de be interested to hear your comments ~ especially if it does what I am trying to replicate from Cash Organizer.
Does it offer a 'Planner' so you can plan your spending's in advance and see from a Tab what date a transaction would be due to be added?

I've set mine up to include all my direct debits for the month and they are set to occur every month on the same date, if thats what your after.
There is a 30 day trial of it on the market place, search for Firewallet.

Yes, a direct debit planner is ideal.
I'll get my brother to download and test it out for me.
Thanks.
also check out easymoney. that's what I'm currently using after trying out several other options. I'm probably not as much of a power user as you, but I think easymoney can do what you want.
best of luck, and if you do find something perfect I'd like to hear your thoughts.

When I switched from WM to Android this was also one of my constraints.
Used to work with SPB Finance for years. It never really updated but did a very good job (planner included).
I have now found a good replacement in ClearCheckbook.com.
Is actually better as they also have a website account which syncs nicely with the Desire.
If by planner you mean repeating transactions then yes it is available.
Also have a good customer service .... quick at replying
Only downside is you need to pay for a subscription ....

Many thanks for the additional Apps to try.
My Brother is popping round tonight with his Desire in order I can try out a few of these titles.
I'll certainly post back which I found most comfortable in using.
Well, thanks once again Guys for all your input.... It has been most welcome and truly appreciated.
I've 'briefly' tried all the Apps you can install and can see both positives & negatives on all but admit these are based solely on my own personal requirements as one App may well suit one user very well whereas with another user it limits the usefulness.
Financisto ~ I found limiting to my requirements.
I was surprised there is no recurring payments or split transaction to name but two.
It was easy to navigate and in no time I was up and running with several accounts.
Location was different and useful. Definitely see a use for this.
Firewallet ~ I found the Bill Reminder (Planner) but it was limiting in the choices given.
Again I could not see any way to split a transaction and worse I could not find a category list.... Please update me if I got that wrong as again I only managed to test it out briefly.
EasyMoney ~ was by far the most professional App, both in it's design and operation of use.
There is so much you can play with this App and love.
Granted I personally would like more control over say individual category expense lists (ability to see at a glance how much each category has spent over a period of time) but of the three I tried EasyMoney held me captive longer.
With more time it could well be my choice... Next step is to purchase an Android and investigate it further myself.
ClearCheckbook.com ~ being an online accounts manager looks promising purely for the fact I can manage the accounts either on the Laptop or on the Android.
I did not get a chance to try this out; namely due to the fact I first need to create an account with ClearCheckbook and then see exactly what is transferred to the Android device.
It is one which I will investigate after I purchase my Android Phone so again my thanks Sjengie in bringing it to my attention.
Once again thank you all.
Without your input I would not have covered the ground I wish to undertake prior to my Phone purchase.
Cheers for the quick review. I'm after a finance app so I'll give some of these a try.
hi beards et al
I'm very much in the same boat as you & it is great to see I'm not the only one in this dilemma.
I will try easymoney again as I did not find it to be that good when I first looked into this a few months back.
I installed firewallet & got a quick response to a query from the developer re importing data so will try playing a bit more with that. (he advised me to create the accounts I want with a zero initial balance and then import transactions for each account one at a time. will definitely make living year to date transactions easier although I guess I'll have to add in all the categories too).
if you guys could share your methods of migrating your data across into yr new apps & any other tips & tricks that would be great!
also if there are enough of us cdnt we try lobbying a developer to tweak their app to our requirements or even get a WinMo dev to release an Android version of their app?
regards
Ansi

I'm also a SPB finance user on WM and I haven't found anything yet that does nearly such a good job for me on Android, (I've tried all those listed here and more) But another one to try is "Loot" it is free, there is a "pro" bolt on that costs money and adds a few extra features, for me it is one of the closest to SPB finance but still not close enough!
I'm currently still using my Touch Diamond 2 winmo phone for finance tracking (you'd be astounded how long the battery lasts if you leave it permanently in flight mode btw!)

Thanks... I'll mention this one to my Brother.
I know what you mean in not finding that perfect title.
Maybe it's because we are so much used to the WM application that we can only see what that particular title can give us.
I've loved using Cash Organizer for many years and I know no matter which Android application I find and use it's not going to give me the same as CO.
Having said this, I am sure there will be areas in Android where I did not realize I needed which I'll find and love.
As such I'm going to go in openly and receptive, to look only for the good in the program.
If I can't find the good then there's no point in afterward searching for the bad....
Now I need to focus my attention on getting my Android phone.
It's going to be difficult as my HD2 has for the past 6 months (or so) given me great service and I've been happy with the WM software.
But as we know, it's no point staying with a 'safe' product, you have to look outside the box to better your aims.
HTC Desire or Samsung i9000 Galaxy S
Don't you just love technology.
I don't know anything about this software, I just read a blog post about it...
http://www.mint.com/
Apparently its something from the iPhone that has just been brought to Android.
EDIT: Hmm...just been reading through and everything seems to be in dollars and how it "connects securely to nearly all US banking financial institutions". Could just be an American app.
EDIT 2: Just found this...
Does Mint.com support international banks?
Not yet. Currently Mint only supports US-based financial institutions. We hope to support financial institutions based outside of the US in the future.
Shame, looks pretty good.

Well I took the plunge and 'Pre-Ordered' my first Android.
After a lot of deliberation I altered my choice in getting the Desire to now opt for the soon to be released Samsung GT-i9000 Galaxy S.
The problem is I will have to wait until the end of the month when shipment is expected.
So, to all who participated I won't be able to make any follow-up on the software titles until after this date, sorry.

.ducks/rolls. Hey - It's not nice to throw things.
Ok, I know it's been asked a million times, so before you cut my heart out and eat it with buttered toast, hear me out. I understand that pin messaging is on a closed network, I have searched the forums here, and numerous other places, and everyone agrees on the same thing.
Blackberry just released the 4.6 JDE publicly.
There is a website, Web2Pin, that provides free priority 1 messages to blackberries; and offers to design services around the BBM platform, but they charge an extraordinary amount of money and deal only with corporations.
My thoughts are that there has to be a secondary licensing system from blackberry, and that there has to be a way to design third party software, because it's obviously been done.
I'm not Java-wise, nor Android-wise, so my logic is most likely flawed, but I thought I'd put it out there and see what happens.

I'm a long time blackberry user (since the 7100 series) I know this has been talked about several times...I know it has something to do with having a valid pin as thats how bbm communicates with the BIS servers. The program would have to clone a pin or something and be able to ping the server and get access I would think...BlackBerry development has reached several third parties but bbm is a core app and liscensed by RIM so I dont know if or how it could be done would be nice...The final insult to injury lol.
@Sunder74
That's what I had originally thought as well. But I also remember a few years ago when there was a little known, functioning application for WM5 that would do pin messaging (I had tested it while I was working Data Tech at a VZW Call Center).
There's also the up and coming Blackberry Application Suite. It currently only works with BES. I've a hunch that it's probably because they're going to sell pin numbers to corporations or bes server admins.
My other thought is, RIM would probably be more open to selling PIN licenses to individuals if there was a functional, stable piece of software (or base coding) for them to advertise alongside it.
Before the Blackberry App store, I remember going to a website that linked to a bunch of OTA installers grouped by category.
I don't just really want this to work. All the pieces seem to be there. Web2pin proves that the licenses can be purchased and used with bis, somehow. BBAS is about to roll out on WM. It's has to be possible.
I know! I'll sit down in my thinking chair and... Think. Think. Think.
I think the issue here is your all thinking inside the box. Android developers should design there own bbm styled app where android users would get AndroidPins and using the exact framework to create a competition and not a way to just communicate to bb people.
Android Messenger
ver 1.0
Android Pins: A9999-A999999999
Can send msgs threw data just like black berries
Would be free and you could make a donation or pay 1$ for the app
you register your number on the app and you recieve a android pin from the server
and basiclly figure out how to send pushes for when the person recieves and opens and responds to the message
the concept is there for android but i dont think people realize that black berry is like apple they try to close source there stuff which is ok but when android is open source you can litterally work on setting this app to work for communicating with apple iphones maybe blackberries too if you have the skill
just throwin around that idea
I do not know if you have ever noticed this, but bbm is RIM's largest ad campaign. There is very little chance that they would sell bbm PIN's.

actually theres a app being developed for android its called Hello Messenger. Its already out for iOS and Blackberrys, it works just like bbm, with pin numbers and group chats. there's also whatsapp
im waiting for WhatsApp it is out for iOS, BBOS, they are developing it for Android 2.1+, WM and S60. It uses your mobile number as your pin so to speak.
Whatsapp is already there. I have it installed on my Desire. You download the app and they have to let you logging, because its a preview, but fully working.

You have to send an email to the adress posted before. You have yo tell them that you want to try their soft as beta tester in your android phone.
After few hours/days you will get an email like the one i posted allowing you to use the soft.
I forgot yo say that You have to include in the email your full mobile number (with country code), the same that you use in the app. They use it to activate your app.
Me and my friends used blackberry messenger for the longest time. Mainly the groupchat feature because it was basically a live chat room for only your friends to share pics voice records and randomness. Unfortunately both pinchat and whatsapp do not supply a good group chat. pinchat does have a group chat but its garbage compared to the BBmsger group chat and whatsapp is just flawed. I am still in search for a good group chat program that is also cross platform. or at least on android.
Non-BB users underestimate how much people love BBM. If there's going to be a cross-platform alternative, it has to do everything that BBM does as close to the way BBM does it as possible. PingChat and WhatsApp come close, but they aren't going to win over BBM users with their subtle, but important deficiencies. I'm looking forwards to the Android release of Hello! to compare.
The biggest problem is that BBM comes installed on BlackBerry phones, and it's going to be VERY hard convincing BB users to install something else. Android and iPhone users are more happy to install new apps, but having everyone pick one app and stick with it is a challenge as well.

Why not try ICQ, throwing a homage to the original IM. Its got native clients for most, if not all platforms. Its even usually listed as a quick install link on BB. Facebook chat is integrated (on desktop and Android versions, don't knpw about Java/Symbian and iOS). You get a number for anti-spaming (like a PIN if you REALLY want to emulate BB).
Yes, some would say "just use X IM app then." But its the only one with native support other than fring. And I find fring clumsy, plus does not have a desktop version.
I have BBM on my work BB. And I know that its superior in a lot of ways, but willing to bet that the reason a lot of features aren't being duplicated are likely legal, not technical, reasons. So I think this is a viable option until whatsapp or others have the kinks worked out (have yet to have a successful convo in 2 days!). Maybe with enough interest they can get the things we want added.

I'm in a mobile development program at school (College) and I've finished my iPhone portion, purchased my developers license, and now we've started Android development.
My sister-in-law gave me her T-Mobile MyTouch 3G (she just upgraded) and I'm trying to get this sucker so I can develop on it. I've had it for a couple days and just had time today to mess with it. I purchased some DUMMY SIMs from a Hong Kong site and I'm trying to get the phone to just let me add apps.
I "seriously" just want to use this device (versus the CRAPPY Simulators) for my development classes, but I can't seem to figure this out.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
#1 unlock inside
#2 universal androot the phone
#3 install a lite rom like CM series
#4 you might need to upgrade to an engineer kernel(might be adb). Check version on fastboot.
Stop by development forum for your questions.
What school is this you are taking? Google offer free development Program to school and offer large discount on developer phones also.

I don't care about Carrier IQ or who did remove it, Carrier IQ is suppose to help sprint and sprint already has a network to track people and they own the network, they can look at your browsing history and text messages.
Hell they might keep log on calls but they might have limited access to your phone to check on the signal strengths and CIQ is suppose to help sprint get better coverage.
So please stop giving people false hope

Systems and Frameworks with no CIQ scored higher in benchmarks back when we first started removing it, but it's been so long that I can't remember by how much.
Do we even know who is responsible maybe it was samsung and they do not have access to all that data like sprint does other than by using a program like CIQ. Not sure if its in other samsung phones but maybe sprint is the only one that let them include it?
Before people start jumping on the "Keep it" or "Remove it" bandwagons, they should probably educate themselves on the product. People can simply go to their website and inform themselves before making said decision (the company is pretty open about what their products do). I personally don't care if it is there or not. I don't believe Sprint is even taking advantage of the full capability of Carrier IQ ( Some of the logging and such is off by default).
On another note, Carrier IQ has the potential to collect metrics about much more the signal strength; this isn't the only purpose of the software. And depending on what it collects, how it collects, and how often, it can certainly lead to performance and battery degradation.
Finally, I think it would be smarter if Sprint was upfront about the benefits of such metric collecting software on their devices, AND gave the customer the ability to opt in or out. I actually opted into something similar back in my Windows Mobile days (albeit the company payed me each month for opting in. It was a few bucks each month, and basically covered the cost of my data plan). Software like this CAN BE BENEFICIAL!! My 2 cents...
Ryan
Benchmarks only help show improvements in tweaks imo. Real world my phone feels the same whether im hittin 2000 or 2500 on quadrant. Not to mention I saw 2600+ well before ciq removal goin back to one of the leaked froyo builds.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Ciq was not being used at all really.. but the service was running. Killing extra running services that are useless is always a good thing an noone can really argue that. The paranoia behind CIQ was propaganda for the most part. It has/had potential to be infringing, but sprint doesn't need it to track us or infringe on our privacy. I am certain that battery life, smoothness, and stability have all increased since removal. It's my opinion, and that's all that matters... my latest rom is by far the smoothest and most stable I've ever used. Is it noCIQ? Not entirely, but I will continue to remove it because I feel like its part of the equation.
So yea bull**** sorta, but it makes people feel good and it makes my phone feel good..
I'm with the noobnl about this CIQ paranoia. If you have an android phone, Google and Sprint already have your entire contact list, emails, all your locations, your list of apps, visited web sites, etc, WITHOUT using any spyware. As I understand it CIQ gives them lots of data about network parameters that help Sprint tune their network. I'm all for that.
I haven't seen a direct performance and battery life comparison between an identical rom with and without CIQ. I also don't care about benchmarks, I just want a phone that doesn't lag and has a battery that lasts all day.
Seems to me that if you are concerned about CIQ spying on you, you probably shouldn't use a smartphone in the first place.....maybe you shouldn't even carry a cell phone.
CIQ = Unproven threat
Built-in FM Radio = Vapor
Built-in TV-OUT = Vapor
EXT4 OFF over EXT4 ON/RFS = sacrifice stability for e-peen scores (lack of best practices mentality).
It probably does collect information that could benefit us, sprint, service, support, products ect. BUT, since it's off by default, it's not doing much, so its better in my opinion to have it removed.
Sent from my SPH-D700
As long as I've had ****ty 3g speeds and having to resend text multiple times because they failed to go through 2 or 3 times before I'm pretty convinced Sprint don't give 2 ****s about how good my service is. I'll go without CIQ anyday.

Lol thanks noobni I like your style just read the request bout you helping with cm7 an the discussion about ciq then I saw this thread had too laugh.
I honestly don't think it's as malicious as the ACS team put it, but it does slow things down (even if by a little). And the less services running in the background for myself, the better.
I'm not sure where I stand I see no performance improvement with no ciq. How ever sprint hasn't stolen my identity either so mabye its not such a big deal
Just thought I would throw in my 2cents on this topic.
Facts we publicly know:
CarrierIQ has access to every aspect of interaction between the device and the user.
CarrierIQ has the ability to log all data it has access to.
CarrierIQ has the ability to transmit all data it has access to.
Removal of CarrierIQ, as stated by both Sprint & Samsung, will void your warranty.
What Software packages of this type are capable of:
Logging and transmission of data may be enabled without notification of the user at any time via alpha-numeric string sent via SMS or MMS, via the CDMA Network, WiFi or Bluetooth.
The ability to disable geo-tagging in the latest FROYO release. Now CarrierIQ has the ability to know where you take your pictures. It may even have the ability to transmit said pictures along with its embedded GPS information.
It has the ability to monitor call information, tower location, signal strength, did the call drop, etc., to improve the Sprint network. But CarrierIQ is so invasive that it has the ability to also know, what number you were talking to, what name if any it is associated with in your contacts, how often and how long you talk to that number, are they also your friend on social networking sites if you sync with those sites. Why does Sprint need this level of "metrics"?
Does it know whats on your calendar? How many alarms you set and what for? Why does Sprint need to know this?
Every application you use, the type, how often and for how long. Why?
Every key stroke via hardware or software based keyboards. Every every text message you send or receive, every user name, every password can now be logged.
The possibilities are almost endless.
As we all know, Sprint is not the most "secure" wireless carrier. Sprint's past is riddled with employee's "stealing" customer information and fraud. Can you actually tell me with a straight face that you trust them with this type of invasive capability? Or look at it another way, can you trust the source code, the or those who hack for malicious purposes? Think identity theft, think personal and family safety.
I'm not worried about Sprint gathering info. Anyone with a smart/cell phone, internet, cable tv, or walks outside is already having their activities monitored. But I put custom ROMs on my phones because I want a streamlined experience that I like. Take out what I don't need and give me only what I want. If CIQ were that beneficial to Sprint, they would tell us why we should keep it in our ROMs. They know it's been taken out in a lot of ROMs, they're not blind. As far as I can see it is one less running service and that means better performance and battery. I consider it bloatware. If you're gonna argue that CIQ removal is unnecessary, then so are the Sprint apps noone uses..
Also, the EVO has CIQ, so it's not just a Samsung thing. And the noCIQ ROM I have on my wife's EVO runs smooth as butter and has excellent battery life. Of course it's more than just the noCIQ, but every little bit helps.
Seems to me the only people that would argue against CIQ removal are Sprint advocates and those jealous they didn't figure out how to do it.
So hypothetically is there any way to enable only the basic 'metrics' collecting as it pertains only to signal strength, etc, and remove the more specific data mining? My disgust with all surveillance aside, I think this is an issue because this is created by a third party, therefore I am guessing they have access to anything it could access, even if they dont use it already, who are THEY selling this to? I really dont think this has a lot to do with sprint and homeland insecurity breaking your door down for whatever it is you do, but more for the typical corporate data mining for marketing, and other BS... kind of like how FB's ads are predictive based on your friends, likes, etc. This is what I would like to lose. I also really doubt they cannot collect this information using servers on their side, instead of making our phones do all the work (if they were polled), we all know all carriers, isp's , etc can track and record pretty much everything we do, google does it, but thats part of the reason for having an android. As far as law enforcement goes, they can already get anything that would be relevant in a real court on their side, now analyzing your personality and behavior and schedule is the crap that 'law enforcement' has taken too far... think 1984.
Anyways, so I guess it boils down to this, is there a way to keep only the signal strength features, IF they cause us little to nothing as far as battery or performance? I dont mind that stuff, but the more invasive aspects, I dont like making it any easier for a pig or marketing douche to figure out how to better sell to me until they decide to lock me up I have seen CIQ removed in parts (Chris41g?), but it would be nice to have a breakdown of what is kept and what is removed (Chris if you already have, sorry haven't looked at your thread lateley, but might today ).
oh, and final bit, the reason I am so skeptical about the third party aspect is that that enables corporations, and the government, to point the finger at someone else, and in Govts case, access info they would need a warrant for otherwise (even if they only had to get it after the fact)... this is how FBI and CIA share information, the 'patriot' acts and the others that went with it pretty much set this up, we dont really have privicy anymore, unless you wanna join Ice-T and the lo-Teks.
As the title says, I'm thinking about getting some web space, possibly from godaddy because there are a few good revision3 coupon codes for them.
I could get 3 years of their midrange web hosting for $5.12 a month. That would get me 150GB of storage and unlimited bandwidth.
Found Here: http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/web-hosting.aspx
My plan was to use it as a mirror for ROM developers. However, after reading a few reviews I'm kind of hesitant to subscribe to godaddy. Does anyone have a particular hosting company they prefer or knows to be better than godaddy?
I would just use my network connection but with an upload of 1Mb (thats a little "b" for bit) I'm pretty sure people would not be satisfied with that kind of speed.
So, in the end, any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions?
I had a GoDaddy account for about 2 days and cancelled. Their site for managing domains, etc are horrible. At least for my purposes. They only included I think 5 email address or maybe that was all I could pack into 500MB of total email storage. I just wasn't impressed. I've been using BlueHost for several years and it's always been OK for me. I do have 1 site hosted at Host Gator now though because of my PHP requirements. Both are very inexpensive and offer plenty of goodies with the only real exception is that you're not on dedicated hosts so capacity might be slightly affected (I've not really run into this).
Although Danica Patrick always makes it tempting to setup a GoDaddy account.

Not really planning on doing any of that. Just going to host ROMS for developers to have another mirror.
It would be really nice to have a database of ROMs all in one place.

Yeah. That's what I was thinking and why I decided to do this. But I'm not sure if godaddy would be the best choice for this. I saw somewhere that their speeds were pretty bad.

good web hosting
hey deathsdoor,
I use byethost and have for years. Their prices are really good, and the service is excellent. I host a few project sites and use them as a place to test out PHP pages and learn mysql. I don't generate much traffic, but have only lost one site in over 8 years of service and that was during a major update on their end that they sent plenty of warning about, needless to say I failed to heed the warnings and suggestions to back up my data.
Note that the spelling isn't byte, it is byethost and I would highly recommend them. And no I don't have any affiliation with them other Than my annual bill.
One of the sites there is rant-zone.com . There are a few pdf's on there and some other files if you want to check out download speeds and whatnot.

Thanks for that. Their Ultimate monthly plan is looking good since it has a free domain name, and unlimited bandwidth. Something tells me the 250GB would be gone real quick.

I've dealt with alot of webhosting services for shared hosting to professional server hosting.
I've used godaddy, it sucks I don't recommend them for hosting.
I do however recommend you register your domain with the and point it to where ever you will get hosting from.
Currently I use FatCow.com for my shared web hosting, its not the best, but its good for the price.. usually pretty cheap.
BlueHost and Hostmoster (both one in the same company) are really good, but you usually pay more for them.
1and1.com there hosting was decent, but there usernames and such were kind of weird, but they were cheap and I liked them.
So yea register your domain through GoDaddy, get your hosting through FatCow.com (or whoever).
Ideally, fatcow will offer you a domain for free for the first year or as long as you have hosting with them, this might benefit you too. I just like being in control my DNS and Domain Registrar which is why I use godaddy.
Just a thought, but if your need space for shared hosting give me the information on what you are looking for and maybe I can help you out for free as I don't hardly use my personal webhosting anymore, only for testing for work and wouldn't mind donating some space as I've done in the past for the RHOBUNTU developer.
(Shoot me a PM if your interested or have questions about the process of setting up hosting)

You may have jumped in already.
I had my business hosted on x10hosting (paid hosting) for a couple of years. At the time, the paid hosting and free hosting was all under the x10hosting brand. Not sure when they started using the x10premium branding. Anyway, when I wanted to add additional websites with different url's, their hosting plan did not include addon domains, so I switched to a host that did. I see that the x10premium account now includes unlimited domains, so they have fixed that. Their service and quality of hosting was quite good, by the way.
I currently host my business and other associated websites with JustHost. They currently advertise a price of $3.50 per month on the web. But they are very agressive in their marketing and will come down to around half of that price, or at least significantly reduced, if you ask them. For instance, if you start to sign up on their website, and then abort the signup, you will get an email with a lower price offer. I signed up over the phone though, and got about half price. You have to pay the full amount of the term up front though. Bear in mind, this transaction was almost two years ago.
One other thing I would recommend, and that is to have your domain registration with a different host than your web host. I use Hostway for domain registration since they had the lowest price at the time. The main advantage of this is if you wind up with a bad web host experience, you can change without your web host holding your domain hostage. You want to have full control panel access to your domain, so you can make any necessary changes yourself if needed. If your web host does not give you full access to the domain, then you must consider hosting the domain elsewhere.
Hope this helps.
When the time comes for me to switch off of FatCow; I will be going to Blue Host, because they offer a much higher quality of shared hosting at an affordable price.
I've never heard of X10 before.
I'll mention this again, GoDaddy's hosting is terrible. I've been trying to get my friend off of it, but he's stubburn. He runs VBulliten forums for our Jeep Club about 100+ users. It lags alot and it seems to go down about once a month do to network issues from GoDaddy.
You can get a year with a domain from DreamHost.com for $10 if you search for the voucher/link
I personally use HostGator for actual hosting, they have yet to complain about the terabytes and terabytes of downloads from Aura.
I used GoDaddy for domain hosting simply because they gave me a lifetime upgrade license for MediaMonkey when I signed up
