What has been tried to unlock the bootloader? - Acer Iconia A500

Thought I'd attempt it but id like to know what has been tried. Thanks
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk

I was gonna go in Acer's international headquarters and take hostages until they unlocked the bootloader. It'd probably be faster.
Good to see another Carolina boy around here, although I left the Carolinas a few years ago.

Clearly nothing by the lack of responses. This tablet is dead for hacking. I will be getting rid of mine in a few months if nothing progresses with this tab.

actually there are a few guys who are working quite hard at getting through the bootloader, but it is hard work. Progress has been made though...... when you buy a product early, sometimes you have to be a little patient while the smart guys figure out how to get around the protections put in place. And I can say I'm in discussions with a very friendly gent from Acer singapore about getting things sorted by Acer themselves...... too early to say much, but he is quite open and responsive. All things will come in time one way or another If you are looking to help them out, you may want to check the thread on here..... the boys there will be better prepared to tell you what needs to be done

What would YOU pay for ??

Hi forum.
I have a question for you.
But first to be 100% clear, i will pay when i have froyo on my phone, just as i have promished, this is NOT a "i will not pay"-thread in NO WAY, i just think we forget some dev´s work... Then on to the question:
As we now see that 2.2 rom´s are close, but without cracked bootloader, i would really like to know what you all think about that.
The reason is that we (many of us, and me included) have promised money for a working 2.2 rom, but what now about the people that is still working really hard on cracking the bootloader, should they not also get paied for that when they get it working ??
If not, i see no reason for them to continue, and i think they will stop the work, and that would really be a shame, as the cracked bootloader is the way to free our phone from S/E 100%.
AN OTHER THING:
The way that this payment is set up, would that not make progress a lot slower ??
What i think it this:
We say " i would pay for working froyo"....
But if all the dev´s would like to get the money, then when they make some kind of progress they are proberbly less likely to share that with other dev´s ??
I don´t know how we can set up a better dev-payment-system, but i think the way it works actually slow down progress instead of speeding things up...
To be quite honest i rather a cracked bootloader

+1 just buy them a beer or two for the time they already spent with this ***** called rachael. This'll motivate them to continue.
Btw. i don't think that they're all on that just because of the money, it's probably more for the success itself to crack one of the best locked down devices out there.

Free Xanax or tampax

So, I'll admit I have some pet peeves around here. I hate when people assume, though I do it. I hate when people get asked the same question 5x and can't ever answer it simply, and I don't do that. I hate that there is anything 1 click or rom managing and feel that rooting has gone from something for people that want a better understanding and to get the most out of their phones, to something that all the cool kids are doing and then they can't read or comprehend what they did and then EXPECT someone to fix their screw up. I also get creating something and not receiving proper respects, and the fact that most code is copied. Hell, if it wasn't, we'd all still be on dos. Anyway, my point is this, it's even more annoying than all that to open threads that should hold some value just to see everyone comparing the size of their vaginas. So in keeping with valuable threads, everyone should start donating Xanax and tampax instead of PayPal and maybe we can get back to telling people to use search 50x a day or something?

+1 lol couldn't agree more

Xanax is great. It's so addictive though I'm afraid to take it.
Haha ya bad bad bad as I look back everything I have done this was rreally stupid I was on Xanax and ya rooting ur phone shouldn't b because it cool it should b because u love the advanced things we can do on our phones and wanna make the possibilities endless one click roots haha I mean whats tthe fun n that honestly

Xanaxaphobia..you can probably get something better with that diagnosis
~maybe I set it too high...
And if some of you devs could start working some miracles, gingerbread and awesome themes and overclocking and fireratting and rooting are all great, but if you could part the seas and turn some water into wine all while reciting the Gettysburg address and standing on your head, then that would be something great to see on YouTube. Honestly though, thank you for making instructions better than IKEA. Stupid pictures with no words. How much expense could words really add after you've already paid for some child laborer to draw for you?
~maybe I set it too high...
Ok, take a Xanax n calm down... LOL. seriously tho. I feel ya, one click root should be banned. Sum ppl just shouldn't be messin with things when they have no clue what they're getting into!

I used a one click root about 9 months ago, it worked for me and I have learned a tremendous amount since then. I understand the thought that it can sometimes breed lazy root users but often it can be a tool to expedite the process and set a firm foundation for what the user will ultimately learn. This, of course, is not always the case but grouping one click rooters in to the lazy/stupid category isn't necessarily accurate either.
Since my one-click root I've dabbled into many different roms, found the ones I liked, changed recoveries a few times, used apps2sd and data2ext (ext4 and ext2) before finally finding the setup that matches my needs the best.
I understand that getting the same question 100 times is annoying, but remember that we were all new to android at some point. If it weren't for XDA, its community of awesome users, and even more amazing developers I'd be stuck with a bloated, slow Hero. I am by no means an expert now, nor will I ever be, but I learn more every day.

*chuckle* I could vent here also but I've said my peace. I've committed to at least trying to ignore the ignorance. If they don't show the board respect in those small ways then I refuse to help. My time is more valueable. I did recently in fact let it get too me too much and let y3mita try but I did get the better of him and got him banned along with the help of others that reported. Thank you those of you.

To whom it may concern....

As some of you may have noticed, I have been very inactive in the Android world over the past month or so. I wanted to take the opportunity to let everyone know what is going on.
My wife is 8 months pregnant, and starting about a month ago she has been having some issues. Nothing too serious, but it means we have to go to the doctor several times a week to make sure she and the baby are not getting worse. She is also not supposed to leave the house if possible. As much as I enjoy the playing around I do with Blackhole, my family has to come first.
The Baby could be born any time now, and I simply don't have the time to devote to Android like I used to. I will admit that what little free time I have left now goes to extra sleep (cause I know I won't be getting any for a while after the baby is born). Lets face it, I'm no Adrynalyn or Jcase. For me Android has always been a hobby, and I do what I do mostly for myself, but just decided to share it.
I do plan on getting back into things once my life has settled down a bit, and if something major happens (Official GB upgrade anyone?) I'll try to make the time to release an update, but don't expect anything from me for a while.
I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me with kind words, donations, suggestions, testing, bug reports, etc. over the past 9 months or so since I started developing on the Fascinate, and I want you all to know how much I appreciate you.
TTFN
I hope all goes well with you and your family. And yes, Family always comes first.
Thanks for all you do for the community, you will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Congrats. And do take care.
good day. using xda premium.
We, in turn, appreciate all you've done for the Fascinate community, and eagerly look forward to a successful birth for the baby! If you wish to share pics of the little tendertot, I'm sure we'd all be excited to see them! If you do not wish to share them due to privacy concerns, we'll understand that, too. Have you decided on a name, and did you find out in advance if the baby will be a boy or girl? Again, if you wish to keep these details private, we'll respect that

Congratulations, man. Hope everything goes well. Don't worry about us, compared to the family, we're nothing. No offense to anyone here, but I think we all know where ones priorities should lie.
We'll keep you and yours in our thoughts. We're pulling for ya.
Thanks so much again for all the kind words guys, I'll be glad to post up some pictures when we get them. Her name is Lilly, and we're so excited =) I'm going to be wrapped around her little finger if you believe my wife, which I do.
Just glad to hear all is well as of now. Pregnancy can be daunting by itself, throw in complications just makes it that much more stressful for you and your wife. Congratulations on the addition though and great name choice, my niece is named Lilly.

Rolling the clock back a little, your work was defiantly among the top. The first rom I ever flashed on this phone was yours. As nothing stood still your work has fallen down the list but then again so has super clean. Should you ever find the time again in 18 to 20 years your return will be must welcomed.
Thank you for your works, I and many others enjoyed them greatly in their day. All the best with the coming parenting. Be sure to pass your skills on to your little ones so as to increase your efficiency in making a timely comeback
Thanks again

Hope everything goes well for you. The last month or so my GF was going in at least 3 times a week for tests.
Not sure if this is your first (I have two), but I am always amazed at how durable children are. They have an amazing ability to bounce back from just about anything! Best of luck, and enjoy your new family member.
Best of luck with the expanding family, and I will add my prayers to the rest.
This is my first kid, but I had 2 little brothers and 2 little sisters, so I'm well aware that kids are a hardy breed (much more than I am these days). Lillian is her full name, and it was my wife's Grandmother and Great Grandmother's name, and I just thought it was pretty (also has some tie-ins to Superman and Veronica Mars, but don't tell my wife).
Congrats! Having a kid is a life changing experience ...it changed mine and I love my kid to death ...family always first and hope all goes well
I'm a new user for the Fascinate

Once again congrats

emwno got the device spent by community - but nothing happens yet...

so folks, the description will point my opinion - not more or less...
in my eyes it´s a kind of impudence to collect many bucks for a device in anticipation some rom-experiance...
emwno has received the device 2 month ore less ago - in meantime samsung pushed the firmware to 4.2.2...
I can remember some words like "give me 2 days to play with it before it´s a develop-unit" - ehrm, kay.... development is urgent missing...
I´m total critical in hardware-funding, so I spent nothing! In this point I get totally right. If I see a result I´ll support the develper with any bucks.
What´s in your mind?

How much of the device sent to him was your money?
Beanstown also got a device paid for by the community.
So far, Beans has produced a deodexed stock rom and Emwo has produced the viable custom recoveries needed to flash the roms and kernels that Beans, Civato etc. are making. Emwo took a good run at making a kernel, too.
Would it be nice if there was more development? Sure, but I'm lazy - I just kicked in some money - more as a thank- you than anything else.
If I actually wanted to see a feature developed, I'd do it myself, or I'd buy a device on which there was active development.
I think something was lost in the translation somewhere, I thought this was a spam post at first.
This happens a lot on xda and its why its against the rules to fund promises of development sometime in the future. If you would have read the rules I believe it is line 8. Im a lawyer. Never pay unless you play.

HTC D2 Android upgrade -or-Save me from brain damaged brother

Hey Guys,
I'm home for the holidays and my brain damaged brother decided it would be a good idea to see if my cell phone was water proof and accidentally dropped it in my parents pool. He said he will buy a replacement as soon as he earns enough money, but based on his current spending habits, which is primarily focused on beer and girls with room temperature I.Q's, I'm not going to hold my breath.
To make a long story short, he gave me an old phone of his to use until such time as he wins the lottery, or Jesus comes. It's an HTC D2 with the ungodly Windows 6.5 I believe. It looks like it will work for awhile, but I'd rather not use Windows. My brother came out of his drunken stupor long enough to direct me to this website, and told me to ask about upgrading the phone to Android. Due to his beer clouded vision and limited language skills, it seems he is unable to do this himself.
Is there an easy way to upgrade this phone to Android? I read through quite a few of the posts here, but found so many confusing options and variations I don't know what to do. I know most of you guys can build a nuclear reactor with a paper clip and chewing gum, but are there any instructions that even a Psych major can follow? I'm not stupid, but I'm not and engineer either. I'm going back to college soon, so I would like something stable that I don't constantly have to fiddle with.
I found something that shows how to install Android "Ice Cream Sandwich". The video is a bit dated, so I don't know if it's the easiest way. I want something simple to use. Is "Ice Cream Sandwich" recent enough for me to use my favorite apps? Is it stable? Is this even the best way to do it? It seems a bit difficult to follow and I don't know if I can even do it. The website here won't let me post the link, so I doctored it up a bit.

Sorry for the long post, and especially if I put anyone off with all "my brother" rants, but he just dropped my phone in the pool about 2 hours ago and I really needed it while I'm home. I tried finding help somewhere else at first, but received a message from a guy, who makes my brother look like a genius, saying he'd help me if I sent him a naked picture of myself. Uh, thanks, but no thanks.
I only have about a week left to stay here, so if I don't get the phone working by the time I leave I guess I can use the Windows phone. Any help or insights would be welcome.
Thanks!

Too. Many. Details ..... But I guess it is worth it against who might flame you for not "searching" and "trying stuff on your own"
For people who just want to know the question, it's highlighted in red.
To be honest, you WILL have to do some reading before installing Android on that device. Depending on whether you want to keep WinMo or not and on what matters the most to you.
But as to not confuse you, I'm going to assume you want Android on NAND using MAGLDR bootloader.
Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044830 which should guide you through the whole process.
I can also assume that ICS should be fine for you, but if it doesn't suit you, feel free to try others. But ICS should be recent enough for most apps.
Follow that thread, and if you get stuck you may come back here and tell us where you got stuck and why and we will try to help.

Anyway, from second post is all you need... It actually helped me too. I'm looking for a guide like this after few hours of searching.
