Hi forum.
I have a question for you.
But first to be 100% clear, i will pay when i have froyo on my phone, just as i have promished, this is NOT a "i will not pay"-thread in NO WAY, i just think we forget some dev´s work... Then on to the question:
As we now see that 2.2 rom´s are close, but without cracked bootloader, i would really like to know what you all think about that.
The reason is that we (many of us, and me included) have promised money for a working 2.2 rom, but what now about the people that is still working really hard on cracking the bootloader, should they not also get paied for that when they get it working ??
If not, i see no reason for them to continue, and i think they will stop the work, and that would really be a shame, as the cracked bootloader is the way to free our phone from S/E 100%.
AN OTHER THING:
The way that this payment is set up, would that not make progress a lot slower ??
What i think it this:
We say " i would pay for working froyo"....
But if all the dev´s would like to get the money, then when they make some kind of progress they are proberbly less likely to share that with other dev´s ??
I don´t know how we can set up a better dev-payment-system, but i think the way it works actually slow down progress instead of speeding things up...
To be quite honest i rather a cracked bootloader

+1 just buy them a beer or two for the time they already spent with this ***** called rachael. This'll motivate them to continue.
Btw. i don't think that they're all on that just because of the money, it's probably more for the success itself to crack one of the best locked down devices out there.

They spend there own time for us , I say they need support from us, as a thankyou for something your not able to do and giving you a better phone experience.

i know some people will get annoyed by this, but people ask se on the wrong way, they wont ever give out their code, so im trying to ask them to atleast send us an patch to unlock the bootloader
SIGN HERE
p.s. maybe its a waste of time, but atleast we're trying...
and back to top ^^
You're wasting your time. SE will not unlock the bootloader...end of
Atleast we can try
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
signed, only took few seconds. if all of us can do the same, it'll be a mighty power that sony can not resist. stick together, we can do anything.
They won't ever do it. However they unlocked our bootloader would get reverse engineered for everyone.
We just need to wait for the devs.
Im not giving up without trying, but just let's face it: SE will never do this.
They have more important things to think about (Arc? Of course! lol ).
Anyway, Im signing just to support the request even if I know it won't be delivered.
thanks all even tho it might have no use, what did you lose? 1min of ur life?
no we got, yes can be given.... <- thats what we say in holland
i think we need more votes o.0
signed. we can hope.

lets see it it changes something in future
signed. opened bootloader will gave us access to full RAM, also 16M colors etc. etc.
Signed it myself, though it won't have any effect on the X10 development.

Meh... what the hell, why not, I signed the other bootloader topic.
I know our DEVs will get to it before SE ever moves their asses if they do by some miracle decide to unlock it (somebody needs to blackmail them )
(I'm joking there... don't need to hear about how unethical that would be)
here is what I posted there.
I have to ask for this as well. Anybody who is willing to put a custom rom ect. on their phone most likely fully understands that the warranty will be void after such an act. SE's extreme lock down of this phone is against the open android spirit, and many of us are stuck in a contract with an outdated phone, we bought these "awesome" (has the potential to be anyways) phones and are now the laughing stock of the android community. Please give users who want to, the ability to full modify their phone, that they paid for, as it wasn't cheap.

May I add something to all the comments "SE will never unlock it".
SE was very clear on not letting the phone have dualtouch support. But what happend now? On our request they made dualtouch. If we had given up complaining about DT we wouldn't have it today...
Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk
I also believe that se wants to make up for the x10 mistake. They are giving up upgrading it and give us free reins with the phone by releasing the bootloader when they release arc. That's my thoughts

You are wrong. They tried to do it because initially they made an official announcement that the phone isn't capable. But then some Chinese hackers were able to programme it, posting videos to show the whole world that the phone can use pinch-to-zoom.
That video contradicted the company's claim. In order not to put themselves to shame, they managed to implify pinch-to-zoom.
This case isn't about your futile complaints. It's about their reputations at stake.
Sony Ericsson never made any statements about them not able to unlock it. It's a fact that the phone is unlockable. They are just taking steps to prevent hackers from hacking the phone (which, I find their spirits commendable). Their reputations much better letting the customers know that their phones are safe from hacking.
Their target audiences are the majority commoners. Not tech geeks nor hackers. Please bear this in mind.
So, if in the possible future, some hacker manages to hack it, post a video, that won't faze the company. That'll make the company be more determined to make future phones more hack-free.
So good luck to you guys. And with my theory, I hope you guys are more prepared so that there won't be more whining of disappointment posts when your plans fail. =D

I dont know if I'm just in a mood or what the deal is, but I fell if we could get xda on this it would be huge. Hopefully it could do some good, and hopefully someone will make one for motorola and the bootloader mess as well. It only takes a sec to sign it. JUST DO IT

AT&T might take more notice if the petitioner learned to spell.
Doesn't affect me, I'm UK but from experience, badly spelled, badly written things like this just get dropped in the bin.
i didn't even pay attention to it. oh well, i tried... lol
So what is the going rate to root and flash a custom rom? Got a bunch of people who want it done and my Sprint friend told them $75-100.

Damn ....$75-100
Thats a little to high IMO lol all we do is click run then
boot and flash lol maybe 25 they pay shipping and stuff
You really shouldn't have to pay anyone anything seeing as it's all free software and pretty damn easy to use...
That's about what I'd charge to do it for someone else. I'd cover return shipping as a courtesy.
I woulnt pay,but a fool and his money is soon parted... I dont mind people wanting to pay,nor do I mind people charging,I mean people pay to have their lawn cut when they dont want to do it (one of many examples). So be far,I say 75$ is ok if you offer some support after.

I wouldn't even bother. Its to much of a headache. I've done some friends and family members and I got tired if the phone calls dating this didn't work, it didn't do this ect ect. If the person can't do it themselfs by following the instructions that are listed all over the place then they shouldn't be messing with there phones.
Fyi: I charged everyone $25 to run the one click and flash a rom, kernel, and theme they chose. $10 to flash updates

"Too much headache" because you charged so little it wasn't worth your time to provide support.
$75+ allows the person flashing to provide that support.
When I provide my services (nothing to do with phones though), it doesn't cost me anywhere near what I charge to do the actual service. It's all the pre and post work that makes it expensive AND I'm not a charity so I need to profit as well.

It becomes a headache cause then people are calling you to fix things or flash new things ect ect. all the power to you if you wanna continue to get phone calls. Even if I charged $100 to root the headache will still be there.

I can see getting a bunch of calls about stuff not working, things acting up and other hassles. I'd just make sure a portion went to the dev.

Customer support doesn't have to be headache inducing (it's only stressful if you let it be), but it's certainly going to be time consuming - that's why you need to charge adequately. Not only does it make it worth your while but it also keeps you from becoming swamped and overwhelmed with requests.

That's what I was going to say. +1. If ur going to charge and use someone elses one click root without creating your own then u need to pay the creater some money also.
One click roots where put out for free so we could all do it for free. If I was a dev and I found out someone was making money off my work and not paying me my share, I would pull my software.

Seems to me if someone can't figure out how to flash their phone they are likely to need lots of hand holding. I'd flash the phone for free, but charge them $75 an hour for support afterwards.
Stupid duplicate post.....sorry
Some people underestimate the time it takes to do a "favor" for a friend.
I spent 90 minutes on the phone with my friend so he could upgrade to EB13 and then Syndicate ROM!
Flash/Root + Custom Rom = $75-$100
+ESN clone/swap = add $25
Esn clone wow am I missing something ...........time to google seach
1.2ghz super phone
High way robbery! 100$ is way too much. Id charge 25$.
Damm, all I've been charging folks I know is either some nice caribbean lunch or the smallest bottle of Baileys Irish Cream.
75 - 100...that's usury.
I want to buy an advent vega but my mum keeps saying no !!! She's says I got a laptop a month ago and that I don't need it. Please can u give me points I can tell my mum to help me buy one ??? Thanks

If you have to ask you don't actually need one. Life isn't about getting everything you want!
Why dont you scream and scream and scream until you are sick, then she might buy you one.
Or sell some of the other stuff she has worked hard to provide for you and buy it yourself
Or find some work, save up and buy your mum something special

Naaah.
I would say life is about getting as many unnecessary things as possible,
From which you exactly know that they're unnecessary,
But you buy them anyway.
And then after some time realizing that one actually needs very little to be happy,
while there were large parts of the world where the people didn't even have enough to eat.
In the meantime one is consuming and consuming,
throwing stuff away that ain't even broken, just because one can afford to.
To the OP:
Your mom is probably right.
I for example wanted an ipad really bad a while ago.
But after some consideration I realized that I absolutely DONT need it. Because I have a really up to date computer, a galaxy tab and an iPod touch.
Maybe you could try to make a list of what the Vega would bring you and on the other side if that is a function that you can't achieve otherwise.
If this list is not convincing, then you know you don't need it.

I was gonna go in Acer's international headquarters and take hostages until they unlocked the bootloader. It'd probably be faster.
Good to see another Carolina boy around here, although I left the Carolinas a few years ago.
Clearly nothing by the lack of responses. This tablet is dead for hacking. I will be getting rid of mine in a few months if nothing progresses with this tab.

actually there are a few guys who are working quite hard at getting through the bootloader, but it is hard work. Progress has been made though...... when you buy a product early, sometimes you have to be a little patient while the smart guys figure out how to get around the protections put in place. And I can say I'm in discussions with a very friendly gent from Acer singapore about getting things sorted by Acer themselves...... too early to say much, but he is quite open and responsive. All things will come in time one way or another If you are looking to help them out, you may want to check the thread on here..... the boys there will be better prepared to tell you what needs to be done
