hey guys, need some help. After upgrading to the new 2.3.4 my nexus s has the problem of unable to install apk files. When trying to install the app, i cannot press the install button. However, I can press the cancel button. It is weird. If I restart the phone then I can install one app and the problem occurs again.
Anyone know what is going on?
Thanks.

WTF?! That worked...
Thank you for the solution! :-D
Screen Filter caused this issue on my SGS2 (GT-I9100M).
So very, very stupid. Epic fail; although, XDA is there to save me yet again.

Hi i hope you can help.
My mother has an xperia x10 which she recently updated from 2.1 to what is now 2.1 update 1.
A huge mistake, she now has a bunch of apps 'some charge for use' that she did not want. whats worse is they are all looked into the system and can not be removed, to top it all the 'restore to factory settings' option has also been removed from the android menu, presumably this was done during the so called update to stop you from removing the unwanted apps and who knows what els from the phone.
She and i are quite annoyed about this and there very behavior in that.
Is there another way to reset the phone back to how it was? we have tried the hold power button + left and right keys with no joy at all.
It has to be said this is the last Sony ericsson we and anyone we know will own.
please help, thank you
Root the phone and uninstall the annoying apps.

The easiest way to root your phone is using Superoneclick. I used it several times, and no problems so far. Just posted this here so you don't have to search the forums.
Thank you, i have the phone rooted now how do i remove those apps?
Install the app 'Titanium Backup' from the market and use it to uninstall them by clicking the app in the list and press 'uninstall'

If I (or anyone for that matter!) help you, dont be afraid to press THANKS!
Also, be careful what you remove! Some system apps are needed for your phone to function.

Rule of thumb: only uninstall items that appear in the app drawer and if your not sure make a backup of the app first. If the app is a system app you'll get a warning before it deletes.

It worked, those silly apps are gone.
Thanks for all your help guys. very kind or you. and yes its easy to forget about the thanks button i will use them.
I've been using my rooted nook simple touch glow for a week and have been pretty happy with it, but need to install either pocket or instapaper which are only on google play. I tried readability but it crashes on startup.
Anyone know if it's possible to install google play on the NTG running 1.1.5?
Is there any other manual way to install a google play app? I know how to install via adb, but no idea where to download the apk for an app I purchase.
If you install from this guide, at the end it shows how to enable the market / play:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675706
Note that you cannot search the market from the rooted Nook for some reason. But there is an application that you can install to search the market. See here:

Thanks for this. I thought of uninstall and reinstalling google apps and unfortunately deleted youtube altogether both the apk and reinstalled software. So I did a soft un-root again and it seems now it worked (after I had done step 4 & 5 as per your message).
Now I have market app that works, search function does not work. I will probably installed vending apk or did step 4 and 5 againg ( I think I spent more time fixing Nook touch than actually using it).
Btw, anyone knows how to make the side options on the right to appear (where one can choose home or adw launcher). For some reason it has disappearred. How do I get back from nook home reading screen to adw launcher now??

I doubt that you'll get the marketplace search working, it is a known issue. Use the alternative search application mentioned in the article.

That is the magic buttons application it needs to be running to get the buttons. Note that when the application is running but the menu is collapsed, that it is _very_ difficult at first to find and open it. Look closely at the middle of the right edge of the screen. There should be a very faint icon there. If so, then try to press the side of the _plastic_case_ where it meets the screen by jamming your fnger right between them, as if you are trying to pry the plastic case off. That is how I hit that button!
Once you have found button savior and are back in the ADW launcher, be sure to give @jeff_kz's NookTouchMods a try. You will be able to remap one of your quicknav buttons or the 'n' long press to take you back to ADW launcher - much better than button savior!

Kayaker, I've looked at these mods before, but I see no canonical information explaining exactly how to modify and install the mods. Is there some thread explaining this that I've been unable to find?
Thanks!

Thanks. Actually I had seen the thread but it looks like they are referring to things previously discussed, which I could not find. Perhaps I just need to download the files and play around, it might all become obvious. I am new to rooting and to the Nook, so I am a bit apprehensive to start diving in.
Dear all
(Note 4 unrooted, DBT, Stock 6.0.1)
I keep getting a Screen Overlay Detected message when trying to set permissions. I understand it is a common bug. But i cannot fix it despite trying the various methods described in YouTube, forums, etc. I have tried turning off all the apps that appear on top but that doesn't work.
Are there any step by step methods to fix this please?
Thanks in Advance
Geoff

Ah yes it works, thanks a lot. I think this is caused by recent update as I've been using side panel since a long time ago
I think you're right. I got an OTA update just a few days ago and the problem started then
Also if you have twighlight or similar app just pause it and all fine

turn off your side key panel
Hi,
I still got screen overlay detected on my screen when I tried to grant permissions to Blackberry Hub app. I had turned side key panel off but no luck. Any other alternative to solve this problem. Thanks guys.
Today I got this issue
But it's not fix yet although I did all the solutions and suggestions.
1. turned all apps that can appear on top off
2. went to safe mode and still shows this error.
3. and some stuff more. but no luck
Experts, please find a fix ?
Thanks so so much it worked......that side key is the devil!!!!!!!
Already had side panel and one-handed turned off. Uninstalled CleanMaster and Sam's Club Scan & Go. Was then able to add various permissions to Gallery, and it started working again.
There are hundreds of apps you will encounter which draws over screen.
How many apps you wont use or turn off drawing?

@ AnkurR: What is the origin of this fix and what does it exactly do?
Not deemed safe to just install a 'fix' without any information...

Same here.
ahh so thats the "critical update" i declined. Was wondering what it was since there were no apps that needed updating in the store. Wonder what it does
It's update for fixing DQA keeps stopping issue.
I had mine suddenly download and install 3 things from the galaxp app store yesterday without me knowing anything about it. Personalized service client, samsung pass, and LED view cover icon editor. I thought I had been hacked and someone was downloading sutff to my phone!! No idea why it suddenly started doing that by itself. I have turned auto update apps off now in the galaxy app store, I guess they were already installed and were just auto updating (and i have no disabled them all in package disabler since they all seemed like junk).
I dont know what DQA does, wonder if its another one we can safely disable.

From what I understand, DQA has to do with checking the quality of your Wi-Fi. You'll notice if you turn your Wi-fi off, you'll stop getting those messages. Some have had success with going into your running Apps and force stopping the DQA. That didn't help me though and rebooting several times (which has also helped some) didn't work for me either. Still working through options. If anyone has other ideas...

I havent had any issues with or or any messages about it either before it updated or after. I usually have wifi on but have turned it off today and not noticed anything either. I have not disabled it in package disabler as i didnt know what it did, it doesnt seem to be using battery so i will just leave it on.
This is what I've found from Android Authority...
- Reboot device (may need to repeat a few times)
- Clear cache partition through recovery (turn off phone, press and hold Power, Volume Up and Bixby button. On Android screen, when you see ‘No command’ hold power and press volume up to access recovery. Use volume keys to highlight ‘Wipe cache partition’ and press Power to select. Highlight ‘Yes’ and press Power to confirm, then reboot phone)
- Turn off Wi-Fi
- Disable high performance mode
- Force quit DQA app (go to Settings > Apps and tap the overflow menu (three dots at the top right), tap ‘Show system apps’ and locate DQA. Tap it and ‘Force stop’)
- Disable DQA app with BK Package Disabler (costs $1.50, does not require root). Install app, grant permissions, swipe to System tab, find DQA and check the box next to it (simply uncheck to re-enable).
I haven't tried all these options yet. Let me know if any help should you decide to try.
I'm bumping this topic. Tried googling DQA, but very little seems to be known about it. If it indeed is checking the quality of the wifi, is it really safe to disable?

Hi, have you found any info regarding DQA? I found it among the recommended apps to disable/uninstall on Universal Android Debloater, but still I read somewhere that some of the apps disabled through UAD might be important, so I'm not sure about what to do.

Hello guys,
Someone is using my phone to record what happening on cam
Could someone please help me on how to disable this ? Each time i connect to my wifi this icon near hours show up and start blinking, any one have an idea ?
Thanks guys
Depending on what version of Android you have, you could go through permissions to see which apps allow camera use while app is running. Use the Permissions manager to do this.
Turn them off any suspect apps. If that doesn't do it, turn them off in batches until you narrow it down.

A good starting point: Disable for all applications that you side-loaded ... meaning, any apps that you didn't install from the Google Play store.
I did a clean install, everthing was erased (with odin samsung phone), untill now all god, but each time i connect to my wifi the small icon start recording...
Any idea guys ?
That symbol is samsungs screen recorder
