[Q] Hard Reset missing from menu after update - XPERIA X10 General

Hi i hope you can help.
My mother has an xperia x10 which she recently updated from 2.1 to what is now 2.1 update 1.
A huge mistake, she now has a bunch of apps 'some charge for use' that she did not want. whats worse is they are all looked into the system and can not be removed, to top it all the 'restore to factory settings' option has also been removed from the android menu, presumably this was done during the so called update to stop you from removing the unwanted apps and who knows what els from the phone.
She and i are quite annoyed about this and there very behavior in that.
Is there another way to reset the phone back to how it was? we have tried the hold power button + left and right keys with no joy at all.
It has to be said this is the last Sony ericsson we and anyone we know will own.
please help, thank you

Root the phone and uninstall the annoying apps.

Thanks i will look into how to do that

The easiest way to root your phone is using Superoneclick. I used it several times, and no problems so far. Just posted this here so you don't have to search the forums.

Thank you, i have the phone rooted now how do i remove those apps?

Install the app 'Titanium Backup' from the market and use it to uninstall them by clicking the app in the list and press 'uninstall'

If I (or anyone for that matter!) help you, dont be afraid to press THANKS!

Also, be careful what you remove! Some system apps are needed for your phone to function.

Rule of thumb: only uninstall items that appear in the app drawer and if your not sure make a backup of the app first. If the app is a system app you'll get a warning before it deletes.

Yes, I have the same problem. Also want to organize icons in seperate windows but sometimes they move.
Same problem on JPA and JPO (not sure if I had this on JM1)
EDIT: It seems to also happen when I install new applications, don't even have to reboot to see the problem.

no, all installed apps get mixied up...
Hi,
having the exact same problem as described. Tried different versions of Darky's ROM, currently running on 9.3. Extreme. But also experienced on 9.2. Can't remember if it occured on preinstalled Samsung Froyo.
Isn't there really any solution to this ? It's really annoying not to have an option to sort your icons when they keeps messing up after reboot.
What ROMs are you having, guys ?

Looks like lots of things can move your icons update of apps can shift stuff around .
But if you are not updating> factory resetting etc then the apps should stay where they are on a stock rom after a reboot .

Solution
Guys, this issue has a relatively simple solution, the problem is with your touchwiz not saving correctly setting, do the following:
Go to Settings > Applications > All
In here, go find TwLauncher and click it, DON'T click force stop now just click the "clear data" button.
After this, your icons will mess around again, ordered alphabetically, just restart phone.
That should do it, next time you organize your apps they should stay where you left them.
I hope it help you guys, cheers!
EDIT:
If the above wasn't enough (in most cases it should), you can try to get Root Explorer and go to:
/dbdata/databases/
find the com.sec.android.app.twlauncher folder and delete it.
This is harmless, but it will again order alphabetically your apps, this folder will be restored again on next boot, so restart phone after.

Best way to Remove the Bloatware???

Hi guys,
I've read the answer to this somewhere on the MT4G thread here but can't find it anymore for some reason.
I've rooted with the S off and all that good stuff and I do remember someone saying Titanium Backup would be a good way to remove all the T-Mobile stuff but....
1-I don't remember what is safe to remove
2-How exactly can I remove the stuff with Titanium Backup?
I'd appreciate if someone can direct me to the right thread or just help me out.
P.S: On a separate question, when I try to write someone's name on Handcent SMS into the TO part, contacts are showing in doubles. One without a dash between the numbers and one with a dash between the numbers in the format of 555-444-3333(the american way) It also happens on an app I use called Fast Dialer. I checked my contacts/view and I only have one selected which is PHONE.
Thanks again.

Not sure what you want to know that's not described in these 4 threads already.
thanks mate.
I know this might sound stupid but I get this screen below on the backup/restore section of TB and I can't seem to figure out how to freeze apps through this section.

click on "problems?" and it'll download the busy box, titanium backup will restart and you'll see the apps installed.
great. thanks a million. they are all in there now.
I used Root Explorer. I just selected the apps I wanted out, cut them and made a folder in my SD card. I pasted them there just in case I need to put them back. As soon as I did that, they were gone from my app drawer.
"Freeze" them in Titanium. It will remove them from your drawer listing but keeps all files on the phone in the event they are needed for future upgrades. You'll forget they ever existed; and you can "unfreeze" them later to put them back in the app drawer if you ever want to use them again.

or... MAKE A NANDRID... then uninstall them and free up the space on your phone... you can make backups first and restore them in the future if necessary or you can skip the backup crap and use the nandroid to restore in the future...
thanks for all the responses guys.

Cannot press Install button

hey guys, need some help. After upgrading to the new 2.3.4 my nexus s has the problem of unable to install apk files. When trying to install the app, i cannot press the install button. However, I can press the cancel button. It is weird. If I restart the phone then I can install one app and the problem occurs again.
Anyone know what is going on?
Thanks.

Turn off screen filter. Safety mechanism i believe so rogue apps can't install what they please.

WTF?! That worked...
Thank you for the solution! :-D
Screen Filter caused this issue on my SGS2 (GT-I9100M).
So very, very stupid. Epic fail; although, XDA is there to save me yet again.

Remove "Call Settings"

I removed phone.apk and telephonyprovider.apk... How can I remove call settings from settings.apk?
CM7.1
Why do you want to do this? I know the Nook isn't a phone but some applications end up querying for call settings anyway and you are likely to cause problems.
There can also be areas where you may want to fake things like the Nook having a phone number as some apps use that as a verification key (e.g. Verizon Fios remote control).

I did this because I didn't want the phone icons or anything. When I go to the "call settings", in the settings app, it crashes. So naturally, its of no use to me. I don't use any apps that use a phone # as a key, I just want it gone.

Asking people why they want to do something is another question. Start your own thread and ask why someone would want to do that.
You would need a new settings app to remove the call settings. I also deleted all the telephony apps from my nook. No problems at all.

Just an fyi... Those are included in our encore/nc builds for compatibility reasons. Not just some apps, but market also needs these to run well. Other things like contacts app will act odd, too. You will find more headaches from removing them. Our cm Devs didn't leave them in there for S and Gs.
If your concern is battery, don't worry. They don't use any.

If you're feeling "removey" and anxious to get rid of excess apps, i relate and recommend this :
Get Titanium Backup on the market. This will let you see all installed apps and have the option to "freeze" one before uninstalling. You'll get to see how the nook functions without the app in question. If it freaks out, you can usually just go back in and unfreeze it.
The phone apk is definitely not a safe app to remove are you using the stock adw launcher?

Well... I dunno about that. I really see no reason for the dev's to leave in Camera.apk, MMS.apk, etc etc... I've removed the following, plus more with no negative side effects whatsoever. I've been running CM7 & CM7.1 since I first got my nook last May. I've even tried removing these on my phone just for "S&G's" and it didn't really have any negative side effects aside from my phone no longer functioning as a phone
Partial list of stock system apks removed:
Phone.apk - crashes at first, but a reboot solves any and all issues with that
MMS.apk
MMSProvider.apk
Telephonyprovider.apk
Protips.apk
Camera.apk
Thats as best as I can remember for now, I probably

The last time I attempted to remove everything that I wont use I ended up having to reinstall the rom because I deleted something that it seems was needed. If there is can you please link me? If not could someone please take the time to make one? All help is appreciated!

Yes something almost exactly like that. I did view that thread but am not sure that I could use that as an uninstall list. I don't know the difference between an uninstall and a freeze except to say that an uninstall will remove it from the device. My thinking was that if the phone needs the app it can be frozen, and not show up in the drawer, which is fine in some cases however, in my case I am wanting everything not needed removed for freeing up space for the large games I am using the phone to play.
