Device Quality Agent? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

This weird app (device quantity agent) was pushed to my phone from the galaxy apps store as a critical update just a few ago, anyone know what it is?

Same here.

ahh so thats the "critical update" i declined. Was wondering what it was since there were no apps that needed updating in the store. Wonder what it does

It's update for fixing DQA keeps stopping issue.

I had mine suddenly download and install 3 things from the galaxp app store yesterday without me knowing anything about it. Personalized service client, samsung pass, and LED view cover icon editor. I thought I had been hacked and someone was downloading sutff to my phone!! No idea why it suddenly started doing that by itself. I have turned auto update apps off now in the galaxy app store, I guess they were already installed and were just auto updating (and i have no disabled them all in package disabler since they all seemed like junk).
I dont know what DQA does, wonder if its another one we can safely disable.

From what I understand, DQA has to do with checking the quality of your Wi-Fi. You'll notice if you turn your Wi-fi off, you'll stop getting those messages. Some have had success with going into your running Apps and force stopping the DQA. That didn't help me though and rebooting several times (which has also helped some) didn't work for me either. Still working through options. If anyone has other ideas...

I havent had any issues with or or any messages about it either before it updated or after. I usually have wifi on but have turned it off today and not noticed anything either. I have not disabled it in package disabler as i didnt know what it did, it doesnt seem to be using battery so i will just leave it on.

This is what I've found from Android Authority...
- Reboot device (may need to repeat a few times)
- Clear cache partition through recovery (turn off phone, press and hold Power, Volume Up and Bixby button. On Android screen, when you see ‘No command’ hold power and press volume up to access recovery. Use volume keys to highlight ‘Wipe cache partition’ and press Power to select. Highlight ‘Yes’ and press Power to confirm, then reboot phone)
- Turn off Wi-Fi
- Disable high performance mode
- Force quit DQA app (go to Settings > Apps and tap the overflow menu (three dots at the top right), tap ‘Show system apps’ and locate DQA. Tap it and ‘Force stop’)
- Disable DQA app with BK Package Disabler (costs $1.50, does not require root). Install app, grant permissions, swipe to System tab, find DQA and check the box next to it (simply uncheck to re-enable).
I haven't tried all these options yet. Let me know if any help should you decide to try.

I'm bumping this topic. Tried googling DQA, but very little seems to be known about it. If it indeed is checking the quality of the wifi, is it really safe to disable?

Hi, have you found any info regarding DQA? I found it among the recommended apps to disable/uninstall on Universal Android Debloater, but still I read somewhere that some of the apps disabled through UAD might be important, so I'm not sure about what to do.

No. I'd leave it active.

Problem enabling services

Hey everyone. I've been having an issue with my At&t Note 4. When I go to accessibility and go to services. When I go to turn something on for a specific app it gives me the app permissions but doesn't let me hit ok. When I hit ok it doesn't click it but when I hit cancel that works. I was wondering if I'm doing something wrong or have a certain setting incorrect. Thank you

hi,
yes, i have got this same bug...! I have N910 F, rooted, stock Rom
eversince Android v 4.4.4. ANKA4 ... .all along to Lollipop.. BOBC3.. BOB4...and also on BOC5, i had issues withthe accessibility services!
If i flashed a new Rom then i can change .. hit the ok and it is enabled..! Later...(time period unknown) i would notice that i cannot enable it(same experience.. as you) i have searched XDA, for for similar bug issue, for months and you are the first member to highlight issue?
what i do now, is to enable all my apps services etc, as soon as i had flashed new Rom... but this does not help for new apps, that must have services enabled. eg my Norton security.. market app adviser needs service permission enable to scan app prior to installation.. but yes i cannot.,get it enable.. Other services eg... Pushbullet, Noyze, Nova i am lucky to have it enabled, soon after flashing,
According to me it is a Samsung bug issue?, as i have experience it over different Roms (Netherlands.. German .. UK , Roms)
Apart from factory reset or flashing Rom , the bug remains
Clearing cache...wipe etc, from recovery also doesnot help!
All i can think of is, that not alot of members "worry/have noticed this issue, as it works and then at later time " you cannot enabled it "
Any members with positive advice?
good luck
It's very frustrating. I can't use apps properly since I can't get them to enable
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app
Anyone else have this issue?
Please check if you have some app that creates an overlay on the screen. Usually it could be an app that creates a color filter, eg. Twilight, Lux or similar. Disable it temporarily (Twilight has a pause button). Now you should be able to enable the accessibility service without hassle. Then enable the overlay app back.
Are you using Lux Dash ? Or a similar application to control screen brightness? Anything overlaying can cause problems throughout the system ui.

Apps Able To Change "Show Notifications" Setting?

So I can't remember if this used to happen on my stock GS4 since I've been running CM for so long, but on my GS5, certain apps are able to override the "Show notifications" checkbox in Settings/Applications! I feel like I'm going crazy since I'm constantly having to uncheck the notifications box. I've set the apps to not Auto Update to make sure it wasn't part of an app update installation process, but that made no difference.
The main offenders that I have installed on my phone are Plants vs. Zombies 2 and theCHIVE. PVZ2 notifications are sooo annoying when my plants sprout, and then frankly, I only want to Chive on when I choose to. Not gonna buy clothing.
Does anyone else get these issues on the GS5?
I have been rooted for so long I don't know if this has something to do with root permissions being exploited, or it's stupid TouchWiz messing up Android. Any suggestions? It's only happening to PVZ2 and theCHIVE as I'm aware. My other apps retain the unchecked state. This is a security breach in my opinion. Settings shouldn't randomly be undone.
This is very similar to my LastPass app fill settings randomly unsetting after a reboot. Ugh I hate TouchWiz with a passion. My Nexus 7 devices (rooted & stock) do not have this issue with the same apps so I'm pointing my finger at Samsung for the moment.

I've never had this issue, unchecking it saves it. If you have Xposed, you can use NotifyClean, it's a roundabout way to solve your issue... but it works. Did you do a factory reset or at least wipe dalvik/clear cache to get to whatever firmware you're at now?
I've had this issue for at least 6 months. Done a full wipe & clear with each update as they've come out, currently on OG5.
Are you using either of the apps (PvZ2, Chive, LastPass)?

No I'm not, probably an issue with the apps themselves, cause every app I've encountered saves for me. I did a clean wipe to OE1, but dirty flash to OG5.
I can test it out, which one is the easiest to generate a notification for? Or is it, you uncheck the box, and it re-checks immediately after leaving settings?

PvZ2 is probably the easiest, since theCHIVE requires you to be inactive for a while before it throws up a notification. But you may need to plant some sprouts, and you have to earn a seed in a board. haha
I just wiped/cleared (only) with FlashFire. Will see what happens.

Uhh did you know in PvZ2's settings, there's another setting that says enable notifications with a check box?
Anyways, I installed the game, then immediately disabled notifications in the android app settings (not in-game), and played until it sent me to Egypt, then quit. I've yet to receive a notification.
Try disabling both of them if you haven't already, both inside the app, and both from the android OS.
UPDATE: after some troubleshooting it appears that unchecking Show Notificatons doesn't survive a reboot ONLY when the app was moved to sdcard. Works as expected when the app is in internal memory. (This is why my Nexus 7 doesn't exhibit this- no sdcard.)
It appears to occur for any app that's moved to sdcard. I tested with Waze and it did the same thing: notifications would show up On after turning Off after a reboot. The same apps, PvZ2 and theCHIVE keep notification settings properly when moved back to internal storage.
Can someone check if you can keep notifications Off for an app that's moved to sdcard?

You're right. It is that. People here have the same issue:
http://androidforums.com/threads/turning-off-app-notifications.838962/
But try disabling the notifications from in game itself, see if that works, but that would only work for PvZ2.
Back to my suggestion about using NotifyClean with Xposed?
Thanks for the help, @Spartan117H3! I'm going to move apps to internal memory if they have frequent notifications.
Not sure why that android forums page didn't come up in my searches. It's another TouchWiz! I wonder how widespread this issue is.
I never played with Xposed before. I'm gonna look into it- I wanted to remove the boot sounds, too, and an Xposed module appears to be able to do that.

FC when trying to activate Power Saving mode

Ive a problem when trying to activate the Power Saving mode in settings.
when i press it i always get a Force Close on the Settings app. i can press the quick settings button in the notification area, but that does not seem to activate anything.
anyone has any idea? should i try to clear data on the settings app? or will i lose all of my settings?
thx
Anyone any idea?
I noticed that it works now when I use the quick settings tile in the notification pull down. Don't know if that's because I rooted and Uninstalled a bunch of samsung apps.
Anyways it's now also visible as activated in settings, but clicking in settings results in an fc still.
Another thing I noticed is that gsam battery monitor does lose battery stats from time to time, maybe that's because of the same problem.

Please be absolutely sure about what systems apps do you want to remove, specially if they are Samsung packages. I'm cannot be sure but it looks like that is what's causing the issue.

If that is the case, try clearing cache from the Recovery and see if that works. If not, you can always try flashing the latest firmware!
Ok i will try tomorrow. But one question : where can I find the last firmware. I am pretty new to a Samsung device.
Thank you for your help
Edit:
I tried to clear cache and art cache. nothing has changed.

Universal switch on S7 Edge with G935tuvu4apia_tmb

So I just updated my phone to G935tuvu4apia_tmb using the guide in the Tmobile Galaxy S7 Edge Development forum, and then I proceeded to Uninstall a bunch of bloatware and system apps (because package disabler pro doesn't work on G935tuvu4apia_tmb for me for some reason). I had accidentally deleted something called "Universal Switch", then, stupidly.. I had already deleted all of the backups for the things I had uninstalled before I had run through my phone making sure I didn't Uninstall anything important by accident. Lo and behold, it turns out that I need Universal Switch. Does anybody have a way that I can download and reinstall that on my phone? I would really rather prefer not to have to go back and refresh everything using Odin, as I literally just finished restoring, logging in, personalizing, and setting everything else up on my phone, and that took me a day and a half. So if anyone has a way for me to reinstall that on my phone I would greatly appreciate it, and I have definitely learned my lesson through this whole experience. I posted a picture of why I think I need Universal Switch, if I'm just crazy, and misunderstanding the issue I'm having then I'd appreciate someone informing me and educating me on the matter. Thanks again.
So I couldn't figure out how to attach a picture to this post, so here is a link to the screenshot of the issue I'm having.
I can't post outside links yet, so put a "Dropbox" and a ".com" in front of the text below to complete the link.
/s/agxc4us9iodrtgw/Screenshot_20161020-015632.png?dl=0
I think that is just the text to speech......
Universal switch is for smart switch I think. Not sure

Solution?
Well if it's just tts, do you know of any solution for getting passed this thing on my phone? If you check out the screenshot I linked, the issue is, whenever I go to settings, accessibility, scroll all the way down to services, then try to turn anything in services on, I get that pop up, then I click turn on on that pop up, and then it says "unfortunately settings has stopped". I am unable to turn anything on under services in the accessibility settings. There, that is a vast improvement from my original post of the description of the issue I am having. If I click on settings on the pop up, it goes to the tts settings page and just sits there loading forever.
Package Disabler Pro and disable it... Turn it off under Inputs....
As for the services issue... maybe reflash only the AP of the rom, which I believe keeps all apps and internal storage... That should fix that issue... You will have to reconfig your ish, but that should fix and farks....
It honestly sounds like you have a corrupt install to begin with because you CAN'T use Package Disabler.. Did you try the different ones?? I know one did NOT work for me as well... then one did...

How to stop ActivityManager killing apps due to "high power cost"???

By now you may have heard about Axon 7 killing music playing app issue, if you haven't experienced it yourself already. For me I'm having a similar or at least related issue. The phone would kill my game when I turn off and on screen. After some investigation, below is my observation
1. Doesn't happen all the time. After a fresh reboot, no killing for a while... but after some time using the phone, it starts to happen
2. Not app-specific: After playing a game heavily for a while, the killing starts... only for that specific game. If I play a different game, then only that new game gets killed.
This have driven me kinda crazy. A look at adb logs reveals this:
12-22 12:45:34.229 I/ActivityManager( 1752): Killing 23881:jp.co.happyelements.toto/u0a122 (adj 0): excessive high power cost :jp.co.happyelements.toto
What the actual f***??? Why would ZTE kill my "excessive high power cost" process *after* I turn on the screen (and not when I turn off screen, which was 5 seconds earlier)??? Has nobody in ZTE thought about that apps that has "high power cost" may not be actually "excessive" but totally within reasons and fall into the category of normal every day use?
And no amount of changing the native "power saving" options stopped this behavior. Back in the days I remember there was some root/xposed module that would whitelist apps from being killed by the OS but I couldn't remember the name. So now I have to ask help on how to deal with this idiocy.
Edit: My apologies... I just noticed I posted in the wrong section... mods please move the thread to Q&A section if possible. Thanks a lot.
is there seriously no solution?
This is intolerable

If it was that easy, then I wouldne be here asking about it would I?
Yep, have the same problem after trying the same things. Several apps (2 of which I use for monitoring blood sugar levels) will randomly stop updating until either re-launched or the phone is rebooted. I have disabled all power manager options to no avail. Whatever power management system ZTE has implemented, it's FAR too aggressive.
Disclaimer - I haven't pulled logcats, but your description of the problem matches mine exactly. Here's hoping for a fix in Nougat and/or a custom ROM, otherwise I'm moving to a different phone. The A7 has great hardware but the stock software is a bloated mess.
B27 does not have this issue (which is why I downgraded to it). Might be a solution for you until the next upgrade releases.

@whoiswes If you are talking about the xdrip app. I too want this app to work with this phone. I tried CM13 and had the app work for hours then at night it stopped working. I only tried it for one night so didn't try different settings. At least this is a positive sign once CM13 becomes more stable or CM14 is released. I heard the app won't work with B27 either.
Found a solution, though it needs root
Code:
pm disable com.zte.powersavemode
then reboot
This totally disables the power saving menu though

I made this xposed module specifically to fix the problem described in OP. If you have the exact problem, including the logcat message, then the module should fix it.
If you dont have the exact problem, including the logcat mesage, then go ****post in another thread.
My solution is to whitelist all apps in:
settings -> energy management -> app energy management -> option button (upper right) -> app protection list -> option button -> set all to off
But the problem is that this setting resets everytime you install/delete an app
Edit: Ok i just tried out manually setting all apps to "off", now it doesn't reset the apps when installing an app but the new app ist automatically allowed to be cleaned. So you still have to disallow cleaning for each installed app manually.
Just an FYI, I updated to the Cyanogenmod/Lineage 13 Beta by UDev and one of my problem apps has been running for 18 hours without a single hiccup. Trying the second problem app later today. Not a solution for this problem but from my perspective it definitely pinpoints Power Manager as the culprit.
@borijess - yeah, Nightwatch and xDrip are the 2 apps that I've had trouble with, and so far Nightwatch is working great on CM13 (1228 build).
