I put it in here as well as general... Figured it might now be turning on because if something I installed. Either way its not proximity... it wasn't lighting up until last night. Now I have a red dim led to the right of the proximity/light sensor. In the same spot as the green charge/notification light just on the opposite side.

Thats weird....on my phone/rom (specs in the signature) it does come on.....but only when in a call......and the Evo has it too.....its for the proximity sensor....maybe you have an app installed/running that uses the proximity sensor.....and I can't find it but I do remember seeing it posted somewhere that it was on all the time.....I can't remember where I read it....ill half to go look again......
Well I do have killswitch installed that app uses prox. ... so that little sensor to the right of the "grill" is purely brightness sensor and not both brightness and proximity? I'm just wondering cause it didn't turn on till last night I'm wondering if there was a Killswitch update last night now.

I don't know......i'm guessing that the light sensor and proximity is in that little...thing.....to the left of the grill....and that LED is just...well their.....to maybe diagnose if the proximity sensor is working....idk just a thought.....
My evo uses the red led as a wimax indicator when I'm running aosp or cm7 roms. Never seen it on at any other time.

It is a proximity notifier of some sort... dude towards the top was right... simply turning killswitch on and off will turn tht light on and off... the thing that caught me offgaurd was that it wasn't doing tht before... either way mystery solved...thx guys.

Hey guys, this little red light also came on for me, only during calls as well. All of a sudden the proximity sensor no longer works while on a call, any suggestions?

You mean green and amber. It doesn't do red. I don't think the Evo Shift has one. That was originally meant to be for WiMax, but it was never used out of the box, so Cyanogen made it for notifications so you can still see when you have one even if you're charging (plus it just looks better and can fade instead of just blink). There's an app called WiMax notifier so you can use it even on ROMs that don't support it, but I don't think it'll work for the Shift.

I rooted and put Damage's rom on my phone a few weeks ago when the 2.1 leak came out. When I was on 1.5 and I would watch a movie from my sd card, all the lights on the phone would go out (except the charging light if plugged in). It wouldn't matter if it was light out or in a dark room, the bottom panel lights would all turn off.
I noticed in damage's rom, they stay on when watching videos. This is slightly annoying to my wife at night when she wants to sleep. That light is so bright it lights up the entire room. I just flashed Fresh 2.0d just to try it out and decided to check the lights when watching video there, and it's the same thing.
Is there a way to fix that?
HA!
at last! a reason the light sensitive leds can be considered a BUG.
this just made my day.
thank you.
and no theres no fix
Lol, I actually miss the "broken" trackball light, I'd just as soon disable it all together if I knew how.
So you are saying the way it was on 1.5 was considered broken and now it's not?
Is there a way to break it again? LOL

its all a matter of opinion. anyone who knows me knows i made love to my trackball led for so long on 1.5 that when i switched to 2.1 i went into withdrawls.
id advice nandroiding to 1.5 everysingletimeyouwanttowatchamovie (j/k)
live with until the evo
bigger screen, and hey! no trackball!
oh, yeah, and a FN KICKSTAND
Ok for a real answer to the trackball.. We dont have source to the .29 kernels that the 2.1 roms use. Trackball and camera are 2 main things no one knows much about. The only fully working trackball (in every way, like in movies) will be on the 1.5 roms as of now. Until sprint releases its update, or releases the .29 kernel.
Or if some dev like toast wanted to spend every moment back porting the trackball to the .27 kernel. Which for most of the people here, it would be a waste.
Is there a led that a dev can eventually get to work as a notification led? Or is there simply no led built into the phone that will work. This is a very crappy issue for us NS owners that came from the N1, I miss my trackball lighting up from across the room and knowing wether or not it was a txt or an email etc..
Will the NS ever have this? Or is it simply not going to happen?

B) Answered in the stickied FAQ in the right section:

Q: There's no LED Indicator? What are those two circles next to the speaker?
Correct, like all Samsung devices(minus the Epic 4G on Sprint) thus far, there is no LED indicator light. There are apps, such as NoLED, on the marketplace which work great on the Nexus S and provide more or less the same functionality. Those two circles are the Proximity Sensor and Ambient Light sensor.

Not really the wrong forum if it were something that could be developed. It would have been a request for something to be developed. Regardless, I guess we are just stuck without an led light. NO LED blows compared to the trackball on the N1

There's literally nothing to be developed, mate. There is physically no LED light in this phone unless you wanted to open her up and install one yourself.

Splitting hairs there, bro.
And yes, I'm sure the.. er.. I'm blanking on the name of the app that will use the buttons as notifications will come around once a custom kernel has been developed to support it.
not sure why we need ANOTHER thread about the LED (or lack of). do a SEARCH!

I have this sudden problem where my top flashlight LED is shining very weak, does anyone else have the problem? What could I do to fix it? I am currently running MrGarak's MIUI 1.4.29.
Kind regards,
Cbxu
Swyped from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
Mine has always shined weakly, and so has every other DHD I've seen. Almost useless in daylight. This is particularly true for the flashing green LED, the orange charge light is a bit brighter. Also when viewing the phone at a slight angle, the LED is hidden by the earpiece bezel.
I'm using Revolution HD 5.1.4 and here the led isn't that bright...
We just need to accept this i quess
maybe i wasn't clear enough, but I meant from the flashlight on the back from the camera ...

I don't think it's ROM related. I'm on ARHD 5.1.4 too and both LEDs are bright.
Different ROM
Try flashing a different ROM. If that doesn't work, it might be hardware related.
It's not a rom problem it's just the default light brightness.
so one led always was brighter than the other one? i thought they used to shine at equal brightness

Just half-blinded myself checking for you; mine both shine at equal brightness (ARHD 5.1.4 with 5.1.5 speed/battery patch). Tried using flashlight app and Google Goggles with light on.
Maybe try a different ROM to check (if it's causing you problems having one brighter), otherwise may be a hardware issue.
//sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk; all errors entirely intentional.
can you try to use torch app and see if this problem also appears there??
I used the torch and it did appear there too, i switched roms and there too. I guess it is a hardware failure.
sorry dude, now restore your backups and send it to htc.
dont believe its an user fault.
Hey guys, I have an issue with my screen slightly flickering when it is woken up by pressing the power button then put back to sleep.
I've had this issue ever since I've switched to ICS (tried multiple ICS roms, including ASOP built ones and Stock).
I have an i9020a, so I'm not sure if its attributed to this specific model. EDIT* apparently it affects other models as well based upon the information in the forum link at the bottom of this post**
Currently I'm not using any voodoo controls to adjust colors.
How to reproduce:
1. Press power button to put screen to sleep.
2. Press power button to wake screen up.
3. Press power button again to put screen to sleep. At this point when the screen goes to sleep you should see a slight flicker, sometimes hard to see so look closely, but the lockscreen time and unlock button will become visible for a second and then the screen will go black.
4. Repeat if it doesn't occur the first time, because i notice it happens the majority of time but not always.
Hopefully someone else can reproduce this and then maybe we can find a way to fix it. Thanks guys.
EDIT** Found some more information on this bug:
-Video of problem (more drastic than mine, however same issue) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRub7rhwiZ0&feature=youtu.be

I'm currently using matrix kernel 14.5.....not the voodoo colors one.....and it still have the problem if I pay close attention (it's not as bad as that video, very had to see, but still there nonetheless). FYI it's not the green screen flicker; could be related, but it happens on the OTA ICS as well.
On Steve Garon's kernel the flicker isn't noticeable at all when brightness is set anywhere higher than lowest brightness. Even when on lowest brightness settings, the flicker is less noticeable when compared to the other kernels I've used.
The trade-off though for this is voodoo colors not being able to be tweaked. Although, the kernel includes tweaked color settings that get rid of the stock warm coloring.

Hopefully this will get fixed in the next version of ics because although it is a small issue, I like perfection
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
I want to say its a driver issue. But I'm not sure. My brother and I both have stock unrooted on i9020T's and it happens to us. I was reading on the cyanogenmod blog that Google made ics so different that they need to rewrite all the drivers. Whether that's the case for this bug is just my hunch.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I've noticed this also, not sure about the stock kernal. Im using matrix 15.5 I believe. Must have... perfection...
So as ive read it there is no fix currently. Does this happen on the stock kernal? Or other kernals?
Edit: Setting back gamma to 2.3.3 seems to have solved this if nothing is running in the background when you lock. IE; Live Wallpaper/Application Sitting on Screen when Locking. If its just straight basic wallpaper. Its ok.
The only Rom I've seen that doesn't have the screen flicker is Pete's nightly 31 I guess he fixed it I've flashed more than 10 different Roms & all had screen flicker but not Pete's nightly 31!!!
Try it out don't flash any custom kernel no screen flicker don't forget to hit the thanks button if I've helped you!

Hello,
Since my A300FU doesn't have LED Notification, is there any mod that allow Touch Key Light work as Notifocation light? Because I do remember, long time ago, someone manage to mod i9000 touch key light to become notif light.
So, I believe there is a chane to mod it in our A series phone.
Thank you very much.

I don't know exactly what the name of it, but what I mean is those 'back' and 'recent app' button.
Yes, those are called the Capacitive Keys or Buttons.
It used to be kernel dependent with the BNL stuff, but i've seen a lot of apps do this now.
I found these:

i had no time to test so dont consider this researched yet ...
the lack of LED lights in A series sucks...really short sighted sammy.

yup, i may stand corrected there, but i havent seen BLN stuff for ages...in fact, i've seen it last in S2 forums.

Or... instead of BLN, you could use camera LED flash when receiving calls, messages, or notifications...
NoLed from playstore is almost as good as having LED for our AMOLED devices .
So, I believe, what we need right now is kernel developer, because I think we can get the kernel source of A300FU from here: http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=sub&sub=F&searchValue=a300fu.

You are kind of wrong. Its whole different in AMOLED displays than LED displays.
On AMOLED the whole screen doesn't turn on. Only those pixels that are being used.
And I can assure you, absolutely no extra battery drainage what so ever occurs.
