Samsung Galaxy S2 1080p FULL HD and 720p MKV Video Playback Test - Galaxy S II General

Here's a video I uploaded showing the video playback capabilites of the Galaxy S2.
Enjoy

A thought . Would you be able to upload the original video you played to multiupload or such .
Reason being that can be used as a proof to those who cannot play that spec .

Hi man,
The original file can be downloaded straight to the Galaxy S2 through 'TubeMate' which is free from the market.
Actually, I'm going to do a video now to show people how easy it is!

Tube mate thats another app i forgot to transfer from SGS 1 .
Is it still on the market i thought it had been pulled .
I have APK anyway .

I downloaded a 1080p mkv file of the new Pirates trailer (seeing as my "limited" edition didn't come with one). Bloody amazing. Although not sure 133mb for 2'20 mins of video is really worth the space.

Once the MHL USB HDMI is available it will be!

maybe out of the subject op. but were do you get those nice 1080p rnb songs.
i need to make a new album

the phone can even play a 1080p flash video stream from youtube.com directly in the browser, without any stuttering or other problems.

Speaking about flash movies.
I noticed that this phone has problems with .flv files. It plays them no problem from start, but when you try to start/resume from middle or near end of the movie, and the movies is quite big, the movie application will hang or force close...

did you update flash? its available in version 10.3 on the market ... stock version is 10.1 and has some issues.

I got my mhl adapter today my girlfriend upgraded her phone and bought a infuse 4 g since she likes my gs2, and how bout that samsung included one in the box.

Hey jj if u can could you point me in the right direction for the tube mate apk

Nice! I've been scouring Ebay for someone selling the MHL connector without luck. Video proof is demanded!

[Q] How do you play Video?

This may sound completely stupid, but how do you play video on your xoom? I mean there isn't even a dedicated video app. How the hell do you release a tablet and expect it to compete with the I pad without a native video player or support for most video formats? I just transferred a couple of avi files that don't show up anywhere because there's no app to play them.

QQplayer works for me too. Multichannel too. i havent tried mkv files yet
edit: it does play MKV files and with subtitles
Great just what I was afraid of. I have almost a 1TB of movies/videos/TV shows. So my only options are to convert them all or use a non tablet android app to play unsupported files. Thanks for the info though guys.

mkv high profile will not work on Xoom with any current player and I tried them all.
Ya i just tried a couple of files i had already converted for my moms ipad. a couple were DVDrips and those played pretty much fine using rocklayer. But one was a converted 1080p music video. The music video played fairly well but there was a noticeable difference in the frame rate from the standard def videos.it wasnt at all choppy but it wasnt as fluid as i would have liked. If this is what im going to have to expect from HD video then im definitely not sold on this tab.

It is certainly not what i expected. Hopefully it can be fixed with an update or app.
i downloaded dvd catalyst 4 online it was 9.99 (normally $20) and has a preset for motorola xoom
just load any dvd into your computer click go and when its done it will have you connect the xoom and transfer it
then click on the gallery app and there it is. the quality is great too

You can use Handbrake, a free video encoding program. I found that redoing h.264 high profile to h.264 main profile(see the link) and dropping motion estimation method to diamond, Subpixel ME & Mode Decision to 0, and avg bitrate to 4000 kbps makes for a lower encode time(20ish minutes for 1 hour on my i7 920 win 7 64bit). Excellent quality too vs original.
I'm attempting to convert a 720p copy of inception using handbrake right now. (6 hrs estimated time) what a pain in the ass. I set it to the APPLE preset. Which I'm hoping/assuming is what one would use for the ipad. Ill let you guys know how it turns out. If it does work won't be so bad as I can just set a bunch of files to convert in queue while i sleep.

Iceytea posted a handbrake preset for Xoom. I am trying it now and it is going much faster. 2 hour 720p movie took me 1 hour estimated with Apple universal preset and with this one 45 minutes. Can't comment on quality yet as it is still converting.

Dude, the SDK was just released this week. There will be a tablet optimized app within a month or so... your video files are not wasted.

[lagtest] - 20 tabs of megavideo (video)

so i just did a pretty badass lagtest of the S2, pulled up 20 tabs, and played a video on all 20 tabs. not even the slightest hiccup, pinchzooming as smooth as a picture, no lag whatso ever, as smooth as going to google.com
had some stuff running in the background too, i didnt set up for this video at all.. original out of box stock rom.. totally unstoppable!
check out the video by yours truely~
Use the movie code from the YouTube URL in your browser. For example, for: http://youtube.com/watch?v=iox1hzW_ODE use: [youtube]iox1hzW_ODE[/youtube_] -- without the _
EDIT: Hahahha, funny test!
One Piece FTW!

To be fair that's probably more to do with BBC's shoddy application than it is flash or the phone. How else do you explain that other flash streaming works perfectly?

Has anyone tried watching a 1080p flash video from the browser? Was it smooth or choppy?

Try using an app called 'dice player' from the marketplace.
There is a trial version available, to see whether your device is compatible. It's hardware accelerated, basically meaning that it should play without lag. I know this from experience as I had the same issue using my advent vega running vegacomb 3.2
If It's on YouTube or iplayer, you have to let it buffer - all you really can do
Hope this helps

+1 for Dice Player.
Works on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 3G, it plays mkv's without any problems. I downloaded 1080p youtube windows in MP4 format and they play fine. You can download the 3 day trial + the Tegra 2 plugin and test it!!
Another +1 for diceplayer
I bit the bullet and purchased it... very happy with it so far. Rockplayer and the other well known media players very much so pale in comparison to DicePlayer for the galaxy tab 10.1. Not that I had issues with Rock Player on my old Epic, just that diceplayer plays very nicely with the tegra2.
I have been using it with UPNPlay and MediaTomb on my server in my room and it makes video playback very nice in my house. (except that my N router doesn't buffer the high def stuff well)
Copying to the device though, i have never had an issue with anything i have thrown at it.

Unfortunately it is still no go for me. Downloaded Diceplayer Trial + codec and still give me choppy 1080p video playback (better than other player) so I'll hold my card for a while and waiting for other recommendation.
What make me really frustrated is my friend old spec tab 7" can play it with no problem whatsoever.. wtf is wrong with this so called dual core marketing bull****
You can always use Handbrake or something to convert it down to 720p, since it will look exactly the same on the tab. All of my 720p vids work great
first you are totally right my galaxy tab7 0n anndroid 2.33 plays 1080 videos much more smootherthan my other tab 10.1 , but remember the humming bird processor in the galaxy tab 7 had a very strong GPU compared to the nvidia tegra gpu so dont consider the galaxy tab 7 a low end device also the galaxy tab 10.1 had to scale for resolution (1280x800 ) while the galaxy tab 7 scales for only (1024 x600 )which is a bigger load on the galaxy tab 10.1 Gpu
second there were a similar problem in the motorola xoom forum and they reached a conclusion that the problem is in the honeycomb compitability with nvidia drivers in some videos extensions not all 1080 p videos lag but only some and may be fixed by a second update or by the release of icecream sandwitch so try to

Hi! How do you get your MKVs onto the Tab? My Windows Explorer crashes everytime I try to upload an MKV file onto the Tab 10.1! It's so frustrating!
I've never been able to upload an MKV succesfully before!
Please help!
EDIT: I also bought DicePlayer from the market! This is an excellent app! If I remux 720p MKVs into MP4s and downsample AC3/DTS to 2channel stereo AAC files. The quality on the player is great! I can see a lag occasionally though! It's most definately a drivers issue!
I've never tried to play a 1080p MP4 though.
I've had some success playing 1080p VC1 video files though aka WMV (Windows Media Video) files on the native video player without any issues! The video is silky smooth!
can I just ask why you want to play 1080p video in the first place? the gtab 10.1's resolution is barely over 720p so you will see no quality difference when playing 1080p, if anything it will be worse as it wont play as smoothly.

The usual answer to this question is because they have loads of 1080p videos already, and don't want to re-encode for the GT10.1.
Simple answer though is that the Tegra-2 SoC doesn't support 1080p in hardware for anything other than baseline profile, whereas the Hummingbird SoC in the GT7 supports baseline, main, and high profile (nothing to do with the screen size).

Dave

nexus 10 video player

Will it support all file formats as samsung products does or will it be the default jelly bean video player?
I believe it's just the Jelly Bean video player, I don't think Samsung has added anything to the vanilla 4.2.
It's SOOOOOO unimportant which formats are supported out of the box, because there are always the (anyway better) other media players like BS Player, MX Player etc.
I don't understand such worries.

As far as I know, the default video player can't play all file formats, but there are various android optimized universal video players such as
MVideoPlayer HD, mx player, mobo video player pro which can help you play more videos. For your reference, you can check out a tutorial here - top 10+ free android video player for you
Finally, if you really have prolems when playing videos on the Nexus 10, such as audio and video out of sync, video without sound, or even can’t be played, get yourself an video converter tool (e.g. Pavtube Video Converter).
Hope this helps :victory:
