Sprint, ATT, T-mo down - EVO 4G General

Yea In barstow,CA all of those listed are down. My phone is roaming on what I assume to be a Verizon network.
Sucks because now no calling or recieving calls etc. This seems different than the outages elsewhere because its effecting nearly all services, as well as landlines, :/
SUCKAGE lol.

That sucks bro

Can't blame sprint for this one lol. I thought it was just odd that so many netowrks are down and went down all around the same time.its not just one tower its all of them in the surrounding area. lol.
ALIENS ARE invading where is my tin hat <.<

Maybe the towns *one* cell tower got hit by a vehicle or something just joking. Curious indeed.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk

NA there are at least 6 towers spread out over the area. the one in the center of town is B hill. and When i say down i mean not receiving signals. I am roaming on what is verizon. Ever other network is down. Them lucky verizon people. BTW roaming on their netowrk alone out here is bogging it down . Calls can barely be made haha.
ehre is an error
RADIO Resource INTERFERENCE SHORTAGE lol
Cause code 64
Error class 2.

DDispatchNewsDesert Dispatch
For anybody who can read this: Apparently only Sprint's network is working in Barstow. All other communication systems are down.

Oh god that is ironic. Wonder why i am roaming now.
Aperently somone cut a verizon fiber backbone for the city.... BUWHAHAHA

Blame Bush.

Blame oboma

Blame global werming.

its the end of the world!!! lol

http://www.desertdispatch.com/news/barstow-10907-outage-service.html
Sub contractors cut the Verizon Fiber optic lIne. Bank's are down. No one is accepting Atm cards or credit cards either.
Well We know this small town has one backbone in and out of the city.. Glad I am before the cut so i have the net but cell service is roaming with on off conenctions and and data forget theat. recieving calls non existant.

4g in miami

Any word on when 4g will be coming to south Florida the guy I got my phone from. It should be out this month or next any news on this tried searching
I don't know about next month, but I'm relying on this as the definitive source of information:
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/cache_carey/2010/03/sprint-4g-coming-to-south-florida-this-year.html
I've spoken with people from Clear and Sprint. 4G doesn't come to Miami until Nov/Dec
Damn. That sucks I'm really surprised to hear that I was hoping. Sooner then that
Just an FYI
I have picked up a 4G signal while driving on I-95 south toward Downtown Miami. This has happenned twice already.
Since I am driving I could not really test it and I lose the signal quickly.
Any new update on this that's pretty cool u got reception that must mean not that far away

To add to that, I got signal while on Flamingo Road heading North about 2 miles from the 595 bridge.
I couldn't test as I was driving but the phone mentioned a signal but quickly dropped it.

I live by flamingo and 595 LOL No signal at my house I will have to try driving north couple miles and see if I can find it, there is a Radio Shack and a Walmart that way so I guess it's possible one of them has a tower on thier roof.
Me and my brother have both picked up and sustained a faint 4g signal right off i95 and the golden glades interchange at our friend house
my wifes father actually works for a company that has a contract with Clear here in Florida. they are actually working on towers on the east coast and yes miami also. he says that because of bad communications and issues with Clear's wimax setup on the towers here in florida, have lead to them having to redo towers and such adding/removing hardware from the towers and doing the tedious setups over again on most of the towers that were already finished. the company her dad works for is actually pissed about the issues that have come about, because they are Clear's issues and fault. his company is having to redo alot of towers for little or nothing because of the contracts that were put into place at the time of bidding. this is all what he has told me and again hes nly hearing this stuff from hear say within the company he works for. but he also knows that Clear/Sprint are very aware of 4G coverage sucking/spotty/buggy at best. my recent trip to Atlanta i seen issues with the service. i believed it had to do more with me being root and stuff that comes with it then Sprint/Clears fault at the time. after speaking with her dad over the holiday i feel differently now. see he really knows little about what I/we do here and he knows more about what the service acts like for "normal users" and from the discussions with hm ive found out that "normal users" have all the same issues we do. even he notes Wimax/4G is a crappy service as of now and he feels like hes setting things up that arent being thought through very well. idk just thought id share. i live in central florida so 4G is a no go for a while for me :/

Miami is on the official list for the Nov/Dec but I have also heard of people finding 4G in Orlando and over near Daytona. Up here you can connect to it but are still unable to use it.
I too live on flamingo and 595 lol...just to day on 595 around nob hill i saw it pop up then go way...the worst is at my work..(ft. laderdale) all day 4g comes in and out in the building im in...i can never actually connect to it it just says its available but when i click on it nothing happens then pops up again a few min later...strange thing is a coworker would put his evo right next to mine and wont pick anything up at all...we know his phone works bc he used 4g in DC a bunch of times...
TLDR
I got 4g notifications in Ft.Laderdale and 595 area but cant connect.
Clear tower climbs
As the last guy mentioned. I work for a radio shop and I was at a tower site where clearwire has been hanging the 2.3/2.5 ghz antennas and samsung base radios on this specific tower in delray. The system there is in test mode as the IP switches on them aren't fibered in yet. When I talk to the tower crew next week I will ask them for more exact ETA's on the tower/building sites they are doing down here.

I live over in East Orlando and I pick up a lot of 4G signal, but it always stalls out at obtaining an IP address. As I head over towards downtown Orlando and the west side of town, there is less and less 4G around. I'm hoping that 4G is turned on soon. It's a bit of a tease seeing the signal and not being able to use any of it

4G....How about you get 1x coverage completed first

[rant]
Ok as me and three others have spent the last 24 hours in a car driving from AZ to MN, I must say there were a few times, that no phone had any coverage of any sorts, and these are major highways. We went through a majority of Colorado, and various parts of Kansas, New Mexico coverage from att, vzw, or sprint. And at times we had 1x other times we had 1X than some times we had 3G. Never got any 4g.
I really think the carriers should focus on providing service in general first. You know how the government always talks about x% of people with out highspeed internet. Yea I can tell you exactly where that is!!! The middle of the country.
[/rant]
Oh, so you're volunteering to pay for it?
Would be nice for sprint to expand the 3g by about 3 miles so I could have it at my house >.>

dont be a smart ass to a legitimate complaint that has plagued Sprint for a very very long time.
sprint is the worst, ok well t-mobile is worse....
you should never expect to have great or even sometimes good coverage when you are out driving.
really... this is sprint we're talking about.
i dont know why they abandoned their networks in favor of 4G (realistically they didnt, but they are sure ignoring problem areas) instead of helping their userbase grow and make more money by improving their existing infrastructure, and adding to it. adding to it .. and then adding to it.
4G is nice but its not cellular, it's wimax/data. even though the voice could be going over the 4G, i just dont know.
the cost isn't in the 4G gear, hell an ASN Gateway (used for authentication and allowing mobile devices to jump towers without loosing a signal, costs 10x or more what a 4G base station cost), the cost is in the labor of tower climbers, builders, etc. or and tower rental space.
if you have never heard what tower climbers cost per day or even per hour.. research it.. you'll sh|t yourself.
Yea even though this is in the evo forum and it started as a rant about sprint, its not just them, its vzw, att, and sprint.
No joke right now im tethered, I have 3g(roaming) in the middle nowhere iowa...ok cool,
but my buddy next to me, att has nothing in the past hour or so and my other buddy is vzw and has 1x on his blackberry for those who dont recall that is legacy digital service and isnt even 1X. He can send text messages thats it for get a voice call the signal is that poor, hes bouncing between 1x-3g.
The reality is data is nice, but when count on your phone and your a national carrier, perhaps you should focus on being able to actually make a call first.
Oh yeah, this is incredibly frustrating, and rarely use my phone to talk. I mean, I understand why they decided to start spending virtually all of their resources on 4g. They were dying - they had to do something drastic not just to come out on top, but to stay afloat at all. Ok. I get it. But goddamit, we went for a drive up in north nj, into pa, and even hit a bit if rural ny, without paying any attention to where we were going to end up. Had lunch down by the river, hit some little towns along the way. All in all, a nice day. Until I tried to use nav to get us home. No signal. At all. So no nav. Let's just say it took a bit longer to get home than we expected.

Had motorola not sold the iridium project to the government and then lied to the public saying they lost investment and that it was a failure back in the 90's then this probably wouldnt be an issue today. (they still are very actively involved supporting and developing it and is very very much alive)

which is exactly why i use copilot, data independent but see we recognize this fact. i knew there would be plenty of spots with out data, i knew gsm phones would have issues. but not even having 1x on a CDMA network is just wild especially when your driving established routes.
People rely on their phones from voice to nav. Alot of good, sprint nav, google nav, vzw nav do when you dont have service
Sprint sucks. I only switched to them because it would be cheaper for 3 lines than I was paying for AT&T ($200 plus). I only switched because I really dont go anywhere but my immediate area. God forbid if I have to rely on service while traveling cross country.

mp3 file throttling/shaping by tmo

I don't know how many here use podcast app that download mp3 files such as google listen, but for me this has recently been very slow unless using wifi. No mater wich app, kernel, modem, rom... I can only get 10kB/s. I'm not over the 5 gig limit either and everything else is plenty fast as it should be.
It appears that tmo is slowing all mp3 files down except the amazon mp3 app. Has anyone else been having issues with this?
I've found one other thread on the tmo forums about the issue.
XDA App
My data connection was pretty crappy last week. Back to normal this week.
This has been going on for almost two months for me

Amazon MP3 is slow on AT&T or T-Mobile for me.
This is impossible unless they are targeting particular hosts, but I think that might be illegal.

It's definitely not impossible. As to the legality of it, that may be more of a gray area. They can make many seemingly reasonable claims to justify it, including improving the efficiency of their network.

Well I really hope this is not true because this will heavily sway my current somewhat positive view of them.

Can't comment on the 4g sentiment but her 3g on Sprint seems at least twice as fast as T-Mobile's 3g. I am living in the Phoenix area so there should be ample coverage.

You're kidding right? You must be in an area with a ton of T-Mobile customers because the last time I was out there Sprint 3G was complete garbage and I was getting 2-5Mbps easy with T-Mobile's 3G. Not to mention, Sprint's data card was switching back between 1X and EV-DO on Sprint and downloading any type of file at 27KB/sec. It was really pathetic and still is. There are rampant complaints about Sprint 3G in Phoenix right on this forum.. look in the Evo section.
This is definitely real. Just google it, people are complaining lots of places. It's odd because I can download other audio formats of the exact same file (or any other type of file I've tried) at normal speed. Speedtest confirms a solid 5.5mbps connection. I hit tmo up on twitter about it but haven't heard a response. Haven't tried calling them but others confirm they have.
I not sure it's illegal as of now. They control their networks until some form of net neutrality is passed.
yea ive noticed the same thing
I've noticed the same thing, google listen downloads over 3g are slow, wifi fast. When listening to shows on rapid transit, invariably the TCP connection will either break or I will hit the 'end' in the middle of the down load, and I'm left with like half a friggin download to listen to.
Slowing it down is easy to do. There are traffic shapers, the most popular ones are Sandvine and the Cisco Service Control Engine, that can pick out traffic and traffic signatures and rate limit them in hardware.
The legality is questionable if they don't disclose what they are doing up front.
I've been meaning to setup a vpn with home and the phone to avoid this slow down, but haven't found the time.
I actually spoke to a tmobile rep about this cuz I had experienced this problem for about a month. they went through the usual steps..... Turn off phone, take out sim card and battery, and ofcourse clear my browsers cache, that was a load of crap. Anyways the rep told me that I had an outdated sim card in my phone, I got a new one and still my downloads of twit podcasts and other MP3 files are slow as hell.

Same issue with a Nexus S. Called tmobile, claimed they have never heard of the problem, but their engineers will look at it when they get a chance since it is a low priority issue. So lame. However, not everyone is having this problem, it almost seems to be affecting people in certain area's I for one am in Orlando.
It's not a problem, you've just wasted your time by calling in.. it's intentional to manage network traffic. Even Slacker streams are shaped.

Sprint has a bigger network 3G network than T-Mobile - Voice too. T-Mobile depends on Roaming for voice, and they aren't building out their data network - just upgrading them to HSPA+ (Software upgrade, not hard or expensive).
Traveling around with an AT&T or Sprint phone is a different experience than T-Mobile. Driving to Houston, my Vibrant was drops signal (Voice and Data) between major cities like nothing.
That never happened when I had an AT&T phone. I could basically be on 3G the whole way there... My phone would never become useless while traveling.
With T-Mobile if you travel to some cities you also run the risk of having nothing but GPRS for voice and no decent data connection. The risk of that with the larger carriers is much less. T-Mobile is decent in bigger cities, but outside of them (I'm talking, drive 3-5 miles out of some of them) they are terrible.
They're cheap because the service is cheap, compared to other carriers. AT&T and Verizon get by with charging more because their networks are huge by comparison, and while AT&T has had issues they have been consistently building their network out and adding capacity. T-Mobile and Sprint haven't (not that they need to, they aren't that large). AT&T just put up a new tower here, for example, so they're the only carrier around here with 3G/HSPA coverage.
T-Mobile gets voice coverage due to roaming contracts. Verizon and Sprint get little to no coverage here...
EDIT: GSM 3G is faster than CDMA 3G. There's really no argument about that. Of course, if T-Mobile doesn't have great towers/service where you live that can flip. But Coverage and Reliability > Speed, and that's why T-Mobile is still the smallest carrier despite having the best prices/plans. Their 3G network is too small, and unreliable especially if you travel and/or live outside of major cities.

Verizon has better cover than both from what i read.
But here in Puerto Rico T-mobile is good, and i have data pretty much any were i go,they are cheap because they are the smaller guys not the big ones, and have a much better customer service than AT&T which ranked last.
Some of the best phone plans here were made by a company call Movi Star, before Movi start everything cell phone related here in Puerto Rico was ultra expensive.
In fact by the late 90's here you were charge by the minutes,in plans of 400 minutes and so and they counted both ways in or out, text ultra expensive as well, like .30 cents a text or more.
Movi Star actually came with the first all call receive free plan, and it was a hit, they also boosted the first pre-pay phones with unlimited receive calls free as long as you had balance to make calls as well.
Not only that they also came with the first plan here in Puerto Rico, that included both calls incoming and outgoing unlimited for a fixed price,in that time it was $99 dollars i remember it,it was like 1998 i think.
By that time the PRTC,Cellular One were the tops dogs here, and a 1000 minute plan on any of the 2 could cost you almost what Movi Star charged, but you only have 1000 minutes that counted both ways, with Movi Star it was unlimited.
Now that company is call Open Mobile and they sell just pre-pay phones, they are not as attractive to customers because they don't have a huge selection of phones, and they sell the phone to you without financial, unlike T-mobile and AT&T which sell you the phone cheap or free to tie you in the contract.
In fact they have the cheapest plan of any company here in Puerto Rico and have good signal to,they charge you $55 for unlimited calls, unlimited data, unlimited text.unlimited US long distance calls,Unlimited roaming in US,and even 411 (information to ask for numbers) Unlimited.
All that for $55 dollars, the only down side is that they don't use sim cards, and that only some Sprint phones are compatible out side the ones they sell you,and android phones like the hero are expensive like $300.
So you see usually the best plans comes from the smaller guys, because when they are big like AT&T they charge people what ever they want,is the number 1 reason why AT&T and T-mobile merge should not be allowed, because once T-mobile is in and the rest of the contracts are up,the abuse will begin, and believe me they will rise they price once your contract is done.
T-mobile service is not cheap because is bad,is cheap because T-mobile is not as big as AT&T and Verizon so to bring customers in they have to offer better prices, just because AT&T over charge for their services doesn't mean that what T-mobile is doing most be because their signal is bad.

Network Busy!! GRRRRRRRR

All day long, I can barely make any calls cause I keep getting network busy, network busy, network busy.
Then I walk down to my buddies house and he's *****ing about the same thing, only, he has Verizon...

lmao. buddy, do you know how it works in the real world? sprint and verizon don't own all their towers. sometimes towers are merged to provide service to many providers to save money and space. The owners then lease the towers to the providers. likely the ONLY tower in your area is down. lol

It's the astroid that is approaching earth and solar flares combined with the new element, unobtainium, testing that is causing the towers to bork!

I was having 3g drop out for me before. Not total data coverage, but 3g. However, it seems to be back now. I'm in SW Ohio.
the only way to find out if there is an outage is to call sprint and ask
I am just out side of dallas texas and a few poeple are having issues around here as well.
I called sprint twice, they said its not their fault and here is the list of excuses in the order in which they gave them to me:
1 my phone is the problem, or something i did to it
2 interference from my building (despite no change when i step outside)
3 other carriers interference
4 user error
the tech person had me open my browser and try to load a page and of course it didnt load, then she had me turn on wifi and try the same page and of course it worked and she tried to say "its fixed now" "is there anything else i can do for you?" i laughed and said my wlan is not the issue i am calling about! what a joke!!
but they assured me nothing is wrong with their network and that i need to take my phone to a sprint store to have it checked out
interesting details:
1 other people with sprint in my area are having issues too, but most people dont care enough to call
2 when i drive away from my small town i start to get signal, i stop roaming, i can make and receive calls, i have good 3g.
3 when i drive back into my small city i start roaming and i loose all data
4 i always have had excellent voice and data in my small town
i believe there is a problem with the tower in my area but they want me to to drive 30 mins to have someone look at my phone. i can drive 5 mins out of my town hop on the next tower and my phone is fine.the badd thing is as soon as i get on a working tower its fine, so when i drive to the sprint store they are going to realize my phone is fine.
apparently the issue is limited to the tower in my area and apparently no one else has bothered to complain about it so i get to just deal with with.
i post in this thread to maybe help someone in the future and personal log sheet.
Actually I get about 3 to 4 bars in my house normally and lately i was having issues of getting no 3g or data and loosing all bars but still registering and not giving me the x of no signal. My phone has also been switching to roaming all lot (roaming btw gives me like 1x speeds never 3g speeds even though it says i have it on my mikG rom)
So I think the issue is in a few small towns and that they are fiddling with something.
Probbaly updating the tower .

i don't want to keep this thread alive but i thought i should say that i called sprint back today and i told the tech if they expected me to leave my work to go have some one look at my phone i will instead travel to a store to cancel my service. i hate being a hard a$$ but i dont have time for other peoples problems when i pay them to deliver.
anyways, this tech was cool, nice, and helpful. he sent something to my phone and it fixed it!! i asked him what he did and he didnt seem to really know precisely what he was doing either. im guessing he was just following a flow chart but he did share some inside info about towers with me.
bottom line is my service is working so i will stop crying now!!
today has been nothing but terrible. im from florida
