Network Busy!! GRRRRRRRR - EVO 4G General

All day long, I can barely make any calls cause I keep getting network busy, network busy, network busy.
Then I walk down to my buddies house and he's *****ing about the same thing, only, he has Verizon...
WTF!!!

lmao. buddy, do you know how it works in the real world? sprint and verizon don't own all their towers. sometimes towers are merged to provide service to many providers to save money and space. The owners then lease the towers to the providers. likely the ONLY tower in your area is down. lol

Sometimes I think I should just go back to my flip phone. It never had these problems... lol

I had a lot of weird crap happen to me today, too. Like I'd be talking, then suddenly it'd just start ringing/calling the person I was still talking to. And the past few days, its always sounded like my line was tapped...every call had a ton of weird noises and crap going on in the back ground.

It's the astroid that is approaching earth and solar flares combined with the new element, unobtainium, testing that is causing the towers to bork!

You need to call sprint and let them know the tower is down, otherwise it will never get fixed.

N1 reception on T-Mobile

Does anyone else have trouble with T-Mobile reception in office buildings? In particular concrete block buildings.
The reason I ask is because I have good reception most places in town. However, when I go in one of our office buildings, that is primarily concrete, I have no service. But always had AT&T service on my iPhone. In my office (different building) I get good signal, but I have a lot of windows.
T-Mobile has just added coverage in this area in the past 6 months and just launched 3g in December.
Same problem for me.
TMO + N1 = serious problems with 3G right now. checking out the google phone support forums says that they are aware of the problem, and are looking for a fix.
Even if other TMO phones have good signal using the same SIM in a separate phone, the N1 is experiencing issues.
No problem at all in Chicagoland. I was all over the place today and yesterday. Only lost a spot in one pace. Known issue with ALL carriers. In between 2 lakes in the middle of forest preserve. No cell towers around. No complaints. No more drop calls like AT&T.
Every phone I've had on T-Mobile has had low reception in certain stores like Target or Macy's.

I am not actually having the 3g issue that seems to be going around. My problem is that I loose all reception in buildings.
LOL, well, that's just the way it's gonna go with radios. some companies have bouncers inside certain facilities that facilitate reception, other's wont. the hospital in which i work has sprint relays all the way through it. most other devices wont' work, because it's inside of a big metal and brick structure. just the way radios work

Most older facilities just act as huge Faraday cages. Its fun when you work for a wireless engineer and your building was built in the early 40s and everything is just screwed up when you want to do large scale tests.

Well I found out how to talk more for free. Thanks to sipdroid, gizmo5, and google voice. Now when I am in this office I receive my calls on the sipdroid client, which integrates very nicely.
My G1 was great @ my job, but the nexus is kind of a hassle when it comes to having extended conversations there. Keeps cutting in and out. I have so much trouble making clear calls, although 3G works great...
Nope. No problem here in NYC. I work in an old renovated factroy building and those are pretty solid buildings with plenty of concrete and even going into the service elevator I still have 2-3 bars and 3G. Not sure where eople who are complaining about their reception but traveled to several major cities and never had a problem...San Fran, Boston, Chicago, Santa Fe...I can still hear ya.
I am in east Texas where T-Mobile's footprint is small. When the G1 came out I ordered one, but had to return it and cancel service with T-mobile because of their service. They only had gprs in town and absolutely nothing outside of town. Before ordering the N1 I double checked all of T-Mobiles coverage maps and it indicated that there had been vast improvements in coverage, and they launched 3g just before Christmas. So I bought the N1. I get good coverage in most areas of town, but there are a lot of dead spots. If I have 3 bars or less outdoors, walking indoors completely kills my signal. I have noticed that for some reason T-Mobile's signal does not penetrate buildings as well as AT&T's signal. I came from an iPhone 3g, and always had full signal in these buildings.
Also, there is absolutely no Edge on T-Mobile's network in East Texas. It is either 3G or gprs. And the 3g is quite slow (300k max) compared to AT&T 3g speeds (avg 1Mb). In the first 14 days I did not go any where but my main office, which is a stone's throw from a tower, and home, so I did not notice the coverage issue. I saw Edge once while roaming the other day, that is it.
In Houston Downtown I have trouble with reception in buildings. AT&T had issues too, but it doesnt seem like they were as bad.
What pisses me off is when I am in a phone call and the N1 switches from 3g to edge I lose the call.

4g in miami

Any word on when 4g will be coming to south Florida the guy I got my phone from. It should be out this month or next any news on this tried searching
I don't know about next month, but I'm relying on this as the definitive source of information:
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/cache_carey/2010/03/sprint-4g-coming-to-south-florida-this-year.html
I've spoken with people from Clear and Sprint. 4G doesn't come to Miami until Nov/Dec
Damn. That sucks I'm really surprised to hear that I was hoping. Sooner then that
Just an FYI
I have picked up a 4G signal while driving on I-95 south toward Downtown Miami. This has happenned twice already.
Since I am driving I could not really test it and I lose the signal quickly.
Any new update on this that's pretty cool u got reception that must mean not that far away

I live by flamingo and 595 LOL No signal at my house I will have to try driving north couple miles and see if I can find it, there is a Radio Shack and a Walmart that way so I guess it's possible one of them has a tower on thier roof.
Me and my brother have both picked up and sustained a faint 4g signal right off i95 and the golden glades interchange at our friend house
my wifes father actually works for a company that has a contract with Clear here in Florida. they are actually working on towers on the east coast and yes miami also. he says that because of bad communications and issues with Clear's wimax setup on the towers here in florida, have lead to them having to redo towers and such adding/removing hardware from the towers and doing the tedious setups over again on most of the towers that were already finished. the company her dad works for is actually pissed about the issues that have come about, because they are Clear's issues and fault. his company is having to redo alot of towers for little or nothing because of the contracts that were put into place at the time of bidding. this is all what he has told me and again hes nly hearing this stuff from hear say within the company he works for. but he also knows that Clear/Sprint are very aware of 4G coverage sucking/spotty/buggy at best. my recent trip to Atlanta i seen issues with the service. i believed it had to do more with me being root and stuff that comes with it then Sprint/Clears fault at the time. after speaking with her dad over the holiday i feel differently now. see he really knows little about what I/we do here and he knows more about what the service acts like for "normal users" and from the discussions with hm ive found out that "normal users" have all the same issues we do. even he notes Wimax/4G is a crappy service as of now and he feels like hes setting things up that arent being thought through very well. idk just thought id share. i live in central florida so 4G is a no go for a while for me :/

Miami is on the official list for the Nov/Dec but I have also heard of people finding 4G in Orlando and over near Daytona. Up here you can connect to it but are still unable to use it.
I too live on flamingo and 595 lol...just to day on 595 around nob hill i saw it pop up then go way...the worst is at my work..(ft. laderdale) all day 4g comes in and out in the building im in...i can never actually connect to it it just says its available but when i click on it nothing happens then pops up again a few min later...strange thing is a coworker would put his evo right next to mine and wont pick anything up at all...we know his phone works bc he used 4g in DC a bunch of times...
TLDR
I got 4g notifications in Ft.Laderdale and 595 area but cant connect.
Clear tower climbs
As the last guy mentioned. I work for a radio shop and I was at a tower site where clearwire has been hanging the 2.3/2.5 ghz antennas and samsung base radios on this specific tower in delray. The system there is in test mode as the IP switches on them aren't fibered in yet. When I talk to the tower crew next week I will ask them for more exact ETA's on the tower/building sites they are doing down here.

I live over in East Orlando and I pick up a lot of 4G signal, but it always stalls out at obtaining an IP address. As I head over towards downtown Orlando and the west side of town, there is less and less 4G around. I'm hoping that 4G is turned on soon. It's a bit of a tease seeing the signal and not being able to use any of it

4G....How about you get 1x coverage completed first

[rant]
Ok as me and three others have spent the last 24 hours in a car driving from AZ to MN, I must say there were a few times, that no phone had any coverage of any sorts, and these are major highways. We went through a majority of Colorado, and various parts of Kansas, New Mexico coverage from att, vzw, or sprint. And at times we had 1x other times we had 1X than some times we had 3G. Never got any 4g.
I really think the carriers should focus on providing service in general first. You know how the government always talks about x% of people with out highspeed internet. Yea I can tell you exactly where that is!!! The middle of the country.
[/rant]
Oh, so you're volunteering to pay for it?
Would be nice for sprint to expand the 3g by about 3 miles so I could have it at my house >.>

dont be a smart ass to a legitimate complaint that has plagued Sprint for a very very long time.
sprint is the worst, ok well t-mobile is worse....
you should never expect to have great or even sometimes good coverage when you are out driving.
really... this is sprint we're talking about.
i dont know why they abandoned their networks in favor of 4G (realistically they didnt, but they are sure ignoring problem areas) instead of helping their userbase grow and make more money by improving their existing infrastructure, and adding to it. adding to it .. and then adding to it.
4G is nice but its not cellular, it's wimax/data. even though the voice could be going over the 4G, i just dont know.
the cost isn't in the 4G gear, hell an ASN Gateway (used for authentication and allowing mobile devices to jump towers without loosing a signal, costs 10x or more what a 4G base station cost), the cost is in the labor of tower climbers, builders, etc. or and tower rental space.
if you have never heard what tower climbers cost per day or even per hour.. research it.. you'll sh|t yourself.
Yea even though this is in the evo forum and it started as a rant about sprint, its not just them, its vzw, att, and sprint.
No joke right now im tethered, I have 3g(roaming) in the middle nowhere iowa...ok cool,
but my buddy next to me, att has nothing in the past hour or so and my other buddy is vzw and has 1x on his blackberry for those who dont recall that is legacy digital service and isnt even 1X. He can send text messages thats it for get a voice call the signal is that poor, hes bouncing between 1x-3g.
The reality is data is nice, but when count on your phone and your a national carrier, perhaps you should focus on being able to actually make a call first.
Oh yeah, this is incredibly frustrating, and rarely use my phone to talk. I mean, I understand why they decided to start spending virtually all of their resources on 4g. They were dying - they had to do something drastic not just to come out on top, but to stay afloat at all. Ok. I get it. But goddamit, we went for a drive up in north nj, into pa, and even hit a bit if rural ny, without paying any attention to where we were going to end up. Had lunch down by the river, hit some little towns along the way. All in all, a nice day. Until I tried to use nav to get us home. No signal. At all. So no nav. Let's just say it took a bit longer to get home than we expected.

Had motorola not sold the iridium project to the government and then lied to the public saying they lost investment and that it was a failure back in the 90's then this probably wouldnt be an issue today. (they still are very actively involved supporting and developing it and is very very much alive)

which is exactly why i use copilot, data independent but see we recognize this fact. i knew there would be plenty of spots with out data, i knew gsm phones would have issues. but not even having 1x on a CDMA network is just wild especially when your driving established routes.
People rely on their phones from voice to nav. Alot of good, sprint nav, google nav, vzw nav do when you dont have service
Sprint sucks. I only switched to them because it would be cheaper for 3 lines than I was paying for AT&T ($200 plus). I only switched because I really dont go anywhere but my immediate area. God forbid if I have to rely on service while traveling cross country.

Sprint, ATT, T-mo down

Yea In barstow,CA all of those listed are down. My phone is roaming on what I assume to be a Verizon network.
Sucks because now no calling or recieving calls etc. This seems different than the outages elsewhere because its effecting nearly all services, as well as landlines, :/
SUCKAGE lol.
That sucks bro
Can't blame sprint for this one lol. I thought it was just odd that so many netowrks are down and went down all around the same time.its not just one tower its all of them in the surrounding area. lol.

Well We know this small town has one backbone in and out of the city.. Glad I am before the cut so i have the net but cell service is roaming with on off conenctions and and data forget theat. recieving calls non existant.

Its impossible to deal with account services for an airave...

I called 1888-211-4227 requesting an airave in order to fix a coverage issue I've been having for the past 3 months.
It started out small but today it got on my nerve, the problem is that all 4 phones would show full 3g signal but when I tried to place a call and send text messages I got a network failure.
Today I was expecting a friend who drove 80miles to bring me a textbook my son needed for college and he told me he would call me when he was at the security gate of my neighborhood.
Security told him to leave because they couldn't reach ANY of my phones and after 2 hours he was able to reach me.
It pisses me off because when I called account services, I got to talk to 5 people who sounded like they knew what they were doing but it turns out they were idiots.
All of them transferred me to the same department over and over until their network failed and the call was dropped.
I got pissed and sent them an email demanding an airave and service for the damn premium data ad on I pay for with 100kbps 3g service.
sorry if I sound like a douche but damn it pisses me off that everyone says they improved customer service when its still the same idiots on the phone.
/end rant
The airrave doesnt always pull your calls when someone tries to reach you .. my ex called me like 5 times in a row and on the 6th it finally rang... better than 2hours but ya never know..
sent from my supersonic evo .:CM7:.
Yea, I will be completely honest, I got an airave, and it was WAY more trouble than it was worth. It kept HOGGING by bandwidth, and I have a 20mb connection, it would slow all computers down to 5kb/s. It would randomly go off and on, texts would come in late (i would get no texts for hours, then i would get 50 all at once). And it messes with the gps on the phones, so its impossible to use Google Maps to map out a route.
damn, I really don't know what sprints deal is, I live in a very populated area where AT&T and Tmo have 4g and 3g without issues, somehow sprints been sucking and they haven't bothered to fix it.
I have full bars of 3g on all of my phones and I can see some cell sites from the roof of my home...I think the 3g tower is close to a 1x tower and the evo keeps connecting to both or something so it cant make up its mind of which tower to use. I'm stumped.

Of course it isn't because the real information is available on our employee intranet. 4G, 3g, and cdma networks are all getting capacity and spectrum increases.
You're the one that doesn't know what your talking about. These aren't lies or emails that we AREN'T "required" to read.
As far as Wimax goes, Sprint doesn't exactly know what they are going to do with it. They are either going get rid of it completely and use LTE. OR use both Wimax and LTE.
Unless you have anything to back up your information then I suggest you shut the f**k or take your whining somewhere else.

In the spirit of the OP, I'd like to say I'm curious to hear if you get your AIRAVE eventually, and what it takes to actually convince them to send you one.
I live in a valley where the closest Sprint tower is shamefully far away, and services a staggering number of people. Calls rarely drop, quality is fine, and data speeds are okay, but I'm lucky if my cell signal ever surpasses -96dBm. I spend so much time rubbing up against -105dBm that my Evo idles to death in about 10 hours. I compared mine to a brand new stock Evo, and they both fail equally.
So, I tried calling Sprint for an AIRAVE, and while one rep confirmed that I am indeed in a low-coverage area, everyone I spoke to after insisted that nothing's wrong and I should take my phone to the store if I think otherwise. (I'd say with my cell signal, and an average EVDO Ec/Io around -18dB, they'd have to offer me a 100k salary before I'd call my area anything BUT low-coverage.)
On that note, the first rep I spoke to warned me that only the technical support department can comp you an AIRAVE, and technical support warned me that their computers need to indicate a problem before they're allowed to do that. Also, you might want to be ready for a fight if you expect them to waive the monthly fee - I got a few 'no's about that before even being told I couldn't have an AIRAVE.
Anyway, good luck, and let us know how it goes!

omg. lmao. yeah, he's reading his company emails. LMAO!!!!! I can't say who I work for but I see the same emails. then I talk to the ACTUAL employees that work on the towers and they do less than 2 hours of work a week. They actually told me they know about towers that haven't worked right in a year and won't go out their and fix it. lol oh well.

In the spirit of the OP, I'd like to say I'm curious to hear if you get your AIRAVE eventually, and what it takes to actually convince them to send you one.
I live in a valley where the closest Sprint tower is shamefully far away, and services a staggering number of people. Thanks for the reply, right now it kinda blows since I had to buy skype credits in order to be able to work...
As the others said about sprint fixing their towers, we are going to be the last place... do you know why? Everywhere around the island everyone has either an iPhone from AT&T or a blackberry curve 8530 from local gsm carriers, and every time someone asks me about my cell provider, they say its crap because of their service. Sprint stores are always empty when I walk past them in the malls. People here don't see sprint as a national carrier, instead they see it as a local cdma provider.
Sprint took forever to actually begin testing WiMax here and it sucks hard, I hope they get it at full power soon when its officially announced. 3g has always sucked, there are like 5 CDMA carriers using the same towers...(Sprint,Virgin,Boost,Open Mobile,Centennial, etc) This is the cause for network overload, also I would love a data cap, maybe thats what people need in order to let others have at least 500kbps download speed.
I was about to switch to tmo...and the day I went to do so the merger wasd announced so I'm kinda stuck with sprint for now.
If you do decide to bail on Sprint, I saw a pretty hot tip in the Evo 3d section earlier that may help you.

Yeah I saw it, its regarding some increase or something, I'm going to go check out tmo and see how much 4 android phones will cost me a month, if I get a nice comparable deal I will drop sprint.
All I had to do was call customer service, say I can't make a phone call from inside my house and it's been like this since the service started. Three days later I had an air rave, no cost to me. I didn't have to threaten or even get angry. In fact, it was one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had.
Its a chance game, you got a good rep, I got 2 dudes and 2 girls who had no idea what I wanted or an airave was...
