Hi all,
A little while ago, after realising I'd received a Vodafone branded DHD I decided to de-brand it to remove all the bloat but also under the impression that would mean I'd get OTA updates from HTC as opposed to Vodafone, thus get them quicker.
Ironically Vodafone UK sent out 2.3 a few weeks before HTC and so I was a bit miffed, but then even more miffed to find out that I couldn't receive OTA updates any more at all after the de-brand, thus leaving me stuck on 2.2.1 with a buggy 1.72 stock HTC ROM.
So, my question is how do I get this phone to be able to retrieve OTA updates again? I've learnt my lesson not to meddle and would ideally like to go back to a Vodafone ROM (which matches my serial number) to get 2.3 and future OTA updates. Is this possible? Failing that can I get my phone to think it actually has a HTC serial thus get an OTA from them?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris.
did you debranded properly I mean put a stock cid which is HTC_001
The way you should debrand is run exe 1.32 do a temproot then open radio s-off app make radio s-off and stock cid and you'll receive an update
Well you are in luck.
I reverted my phone back to stock in preparation to exchange for a new working Desire HD. While on 1.32 I got the OTA file and I'm currently uploading the OTA file to my site.
As long as your on x.xx.405.x this OTA will upgrade you to Gingerbread.
The file should be uploaded soon.
Hi guys,
Thanks for the quick response and for helping me out. I appreciate I'm a noob and don't want to brick my phone so will ask for help from experienced folk.
I'm not quite sure how the de-brand was done - I obtained a de-brand pack from Fonefunshop and used that (I'm lazy and also was struggling to find exact details on how to do it manually - lots of talk about s-off etc )
It involved booting with a special SD card they supplied and it applied a stock HTC ROM taking it to 1.72. Annoyingly this was far less reliable than the 1.32 Vodafone ROM I had as standard and resulted in random reboots etc. Explains why HTC pulled it.
Anyway, I now have my DHD on HTC stock 1.72 with a Vodafone serial handset.
Do I need to create a Goldcard to do any of this? Been looking into how I do that.
I tried applying an RUU file for 2.3 (stock HTC WWE) but it complained about not being the right one for my phone which I think is because of the serial number being a Voda one. I think.
If you check your software version.
Settings > About Phone > Software Information
What does it read?
Hi Andy,
I'm on 1.72.405.3. Tried editing my post to show that but there's a 5 minute gap thing in place so it wouldn't let me.
Cheers,
Chris.
Because your on 405, thats the WWE (World Wide English) version, you can update to any build aslong as its a 405 also.
The OTA has been uploaded. Find that HERE. Download and place on your SDcard and reboot into bootloader, from there enter recovery. It should flash the update.
My god, you are a complete star mate - thankyou ever so much.
Just one quick Q. How do I get into boot loader? Is it power off, yank battery, then hold volume down and power button? Just to confirm.
Also, will this break my wifi / radio? Read somewhere about that.
Yes to the bootloader. Use the volume keys to navigate and power to press enter.
No, your wifi is safe. It would only break if you flashed this from ClockworkMod Recovery, which you don't have.
No problem, I try my best to help everyone.
Excellent, will try that now.
I take it the entire contents of the zip need to go onto the root of the SD card?
Also, is the update Vodafone or unbranded? Just curious as to what exactly I'll end up running.
Thanks again,
Chris.
Don't open or unzip that file. It is signed by HTC and will fail if you do.
Just place on your SDcard.
Ok, given that a go - no joy I'm afraid.
Tried dropping the zip on the root of SD and going into bootloader and recovery. Got a red triangle, so after a bit of searching managed to figure out that you then need to press volume up and power to get to the next step. Then tried to apply sdcard:update.zip and it came up with an invalid operation error.
So I renamed the file to update.zip and tried again - same problem.
The screen with the error reads:
E:\Can't open /cache/recovery/command
Then I try to apply the update.zip and I get the invalid operation message and it reboots my phone.
Do I need to turn S-OFF for this to work or do something funky with the .zip file?
I'm getting the same thing too. Not sure what to do with the OTA file. Try renaming to
"OTA_Ace_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2_36_405_8_R-1_32_405_6_release_187434em4h8vxqx0xssxyf.zip" and place in /download. Then run the update check from within settings
Nope, just tried that too - no joy.
How did you revert back to stock for warranty? Might as well look at doing that instead and going back to a Voda ROM. At least it'll all work again.
Failing that is it possible to get OTA to work once debranded? Can I change the Serial?
If the OTA doesn't work. Download the Gingerbread RUU from HERE. And run from your computer. It will update you to Gingerbread from there.
Thanks Andy.
I think I've already tried the RUU before and it got so far then complained about not being the right one for my phone - wonder if it's a serial no check (HTC have said to me it's a Voda serial, not one of theirs). Perhaps that stops you putting HTC ROM's on phones listed in a database as being branded?
Got a copy of the Voda 1.32 one whilst I was on your site thanks. If the HTC 2.3 one doesn't work how could I revert to the stock 1.32 Voda ROM? That would get me back on track after teaching me not to meddle.
I can live with the bloatware but not without the OTA's.
Thought so - tried the RUU and it errors when it gets to the updating signature part:

I think reverting to stock Voda might be the only way. Or perhaps trying s-off and then the RUU? I'm guessing here.
EDIT - I've also looked for the Vodafone branded 2.3 RUU but can't find it. Perhaps that is the way to go?
Have you tried downgrading to 1.32.405.6, then applying the Gingerbread RUU?
I had to do that yesterday to return my phone for an exchange.
Ok, I've been thinking, and searching.
I'm thinking I need a Goldcard for this then I can re-apply the stock Voda RUU 1.32 that I now have. Then the phone is fully back to normal and OTA's will work as they should. The lack of Goldcard seems to be what's causing the RUU to fail.....I think.
How does that sound?
Does you handset currently have any Vodafone bloatware, or Vodafone boot/splash screens?
To downgrade from a Vodafone branded handset you will need a goldcard.

This is my first Thread and unfortunately for the worst reason, that’s right … my WISA200 (Qtek 9100) is officially a brick.
For one week now that I’m surfing this forum looking for a solution. No success.
Long story short….
I’ve “see the light” with XDA and got so addict that I’ve started to make all the ROM’s I could get my hands on…last I got RUU_Molski.Biz_226102_22610105_022511_WWE-30MB (G3 Device. IPL/SPL like: 2.xx) and I was a very happy person, thanks to Molski.
The problem was that my enthusiasm did not stop and I made the big mistake …my own ROM.
My idea was quite simple, use the 3.0 Molski Rom thaking out the extended and that’s it, clean OS … I’ve tried sereval times and versions without any problem until one week ago...
I got the boot screen and never got read of it. The strange thing is that when previously the IPL and SPL were 2.26, now is IPL 2.26 and the SPL 2.18.0001.
I’ve already tried everything, without success …..

I’ve Google search (it always goes back here) and nothing……
Has any one got this boot screen before?
Thanks in advance even for those who just will read my post and … why not …laugh on me ….brick nerd….
Obrigado,

If it's getting as far as the boot screen, you should still be able to get into the bootloader (see wiki) and try a flash that way.
Looking for help .....
Alan, thank you for your care and time reading my post.
Unfortunatelly I've spent my day using the different bootloaders tools and solutions and nothing works .... or I'm making the wrong procedure. I've even created (I think) a MiniSD SPL upgrade, but it did not work.
It seams the phone stops responding when I try to make any think.
MTTY without error, seams not to do anything although it connects to the phone ...
If anyone else has any ideas I would apriciate a lot.
Once more thanks Alan.
HAPPY
I did not stop trying even though the bootloader did not work properlly, so still I insisted on inserting a rom, and I've tryed this one:
Qtek_9100_Telia_Danish_2.18.7.9245
Now it is on 98% I am really happy.
I'll keep you guys posted.
Nerd!
now that u got that far.... go as alan points out to this thread with unlock advice and follow the procedure to get a good bootloader unlocked and all
the process went all the way to the end but it came back again to the bootscreen rgb screen without any change still the IPL is 2.26 and the SPL 2.18.0001, does this mean my wizard is G4 and all the problems come from there? .....
I've made the format procedure, but still gives me FAT error.
Also I made a huge digging in the wiki and all posts to get in to the bootloader to change it or correct the SPL nothing has worked for me. Does any one has a SD image (any langue dont care!) which might solve me the problem?
Thanks a million.
Nerd ....
I promisse if I solve this I will never make a rom again!!!!
Problem solved!!!!
The issue was a new motherboard ... yes... hardware failure.
As anyone expirenced similar issues?
Thanks to all support.
When you tried to flash to molski's rom it gave you an error 300 message. This message is usually displayed on a G4 device (you're SPL is a G4 SPL now). I think it could be flashed to you're device if you replace the "ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe" with the one that works on G3 and G4 devices from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291215
If this doesn't work, try flashing the wizard_love rom. It seems to flash to almost every device out there.
Good luck!

Should have read the stickies bro....
Anyways, try flashing an older stock version from SD...but I think you are stuck because now phone has new SPL 2.10 on it and no HSPL out there for it yet.
You could however try flashing the new stock ROM from PC instead of SD and it should atleast give you a working phone
there is no spl for 2.10 yet... not sure you can flash a stock ROM vis PC to get it working. try flashing your stock ROM via SD.

that means only one thing... I'm afraid you'll need to wait for HSPL3 or something to get HSPL for 2.10.
Bepe and Cotulla and their team are the geniuses that will be able to help you out.
you're phone still has hope... you'll have to wait though... there were those who flashed the 2.10 shipped ROM before Hspl2 came out and were stuck as well. A new Hspl for 2.10 Spl looks like your only chance.
Hopefully, I'm wrong...
Sorry to hear that Bro..
Your Leo stucked on SPL 2.10 while the most currrent HSPL is HSPL 2.08.
What I understand, original SPL can be upgraded but not downgraded.
I suggest you to bring it to HTC service center. They will definitely know that the warranty is void, but you still can ask them to repair it but you will be charged for that (but its better to try it unless the cost is more than the price of your Leo)
Flash the 2.13 rom again.
Apart from gold card its the only thing you can do until a 2.10 hardspl is released.
Reflash 2.13 with Goldcard is ur only solution.
Probably you have to change the first 2 digit from 00 to 11 in ur goldcard.
It's funny, there shipping LEO 1.5 PB81120 in whole of Asia.
hello xmoo
u suggested for gold card but i searched in this forum and found gold cards are no longer available. if u know the method pl tell me thanks

i tried to flash 2.13 again but error is coming .
That is sad....
Reflashing your leo 2.13 is the only option left i think.. give it a try.. or wait for the newer version of hspl.. current version of hspl2 support till only 2.08 and by flashing via sd card u have upgraded your hspl to 2.10 ..
Wait or try 2.13.. that is all you can do for now.. rest ask Bepe and cotulla for the help.. if they can do anything for you..

thanx xmoo i will post my sd card serial nr tonight as i am in office u r my last hope man
how about flashing the 2.10
Code:
tmous rom from sd card? yes it will fail, but will it not flash the spl 2.08 before it fails?
just a thought.

no i tried that also its going to 1% and phone restarts
only solutions i know about for this are the following:
1: turn your phone off, put it in the microwave for 2-3 seconds, this will destroy all data held on all chips in the HD2, essentially causing a complete failure, then return it, when they ask what happened tell them this:
I was sending an sms, the screen went all static and the device locked up, so i pulled the batter and tryed a soft reset, but the device didnt load and now it does this....
(this wil also stp them from being able to tell if you have tried to flash at all!!)
2: wait for new SPL
(it all depends on your insurance really)

good suggestion i will go for 2nd one:

Hi,my phone is having the same problem. However,my SPL version is 2.08.I want to flash back to a stock rom but it just stucks at the white 'loading...' screen. Here's a picture of it.
Hello,
I recently got a Nexus One to replace my old G1. Now that the Nexus One is my daily driver phone, I want to get my hands dirty and play around with my G1. Even though I had my G1 for nearly a year, I never went ahead and installed any custom ROMs on the thing fearing that I'd somehow brick the phone or mess it up in some way, so I stuck with the official Donut update (it's been hard using Android 1.x while everyone has been using >2.x for the past year or so).
Anyway, I've wiped the G1 back to factory settings and then downgraded it to RC29 (using this guide) so I could activate it over WiFi (I don't have an active SIM in the phone). So right now, I'm on stock Android 1.0.
I think I want to try a Sense ROM on my G1 (Sense is my favorite custom Android UI and I think it looks pretty darned good, too). Are there any decent Sense ROMs for the G1 that are fast and stable? Preferably, I'd like them to be based on Android 2.0 or higher for better app compatibility (and maybe multi-touch).
I won't be using the G1 as a phone (or at least I don't plan to). I intend on using it mainly to browse the internet over WiFi.
Since I've never done any rooting or custom ROM installations on my phone, I'm a bit of a noob at the entire rooting/flashing process. Are there any special precautions that I'd need to take on a phone running stock Android 1.0?
Thanks.

hey,
here's a good sense rom:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116154 it's android 2.1 Eclair.
to flash that rom, your going to have to root and upgrade your radio/spl here's a good guide for that:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098899
Just follow that guide and you should be good.
and your also going to have to partiton your sd card with swap and ext 4 partitions so just follow my instructions:
Ok, so heres what your going to do.
We are going to partition through recovery:
boot into recovery
go to the partition sd card option
click partition sd card
use these sizes:ext 2: 512 mb, linux swap : 96mb, and the rest is for the fat 32 partition
then once that is done, click ; SD:ext2 to ext3 :: Convert ext2 to ext3
then once that is done, click : SD:ext3 to ext4 :: Convert ext3 to ext4
and u now have ext 4!
and there ur done.

these are instructions for amon ra recovery so make sure u have that recovery when doing these instructions
Good luck and have fun flashing!
Thanks...
Before I do anything, should I upgrade to Android 1.5 or 1.6 or will it be easier for me to do this process on 1.0/RC29 (which I believe can be easily rooted).

Upgrade to android 1.5 it'll make things easier.
Sent from my Gingerbread on Dream using XDA App
yeah i believe you need 1.5 to gain root access on device
@maximo thanks for reccomending my ROM & rooting guide
@beanboy if you have any further questions maximo and myself are usually available so dont be shy to ask questions!!! there is nooooo stupid question out there when it comes to rooting your device! nobody wants a brick in there pocket
Easiest way to root would be upgrade to 1.6
Run universal androot
Install rom manager and flash recovery of choice through there.
Then you should upgrade to the 0013d spl and 27.08 it 28.25 radio.
Then flash rom.
(For sense I recommend senselx. (Yes I'm recommending a rom I kinda helped develop )
Otherwise I recommend ezgingerbread.)
I got 1.5 installed, but when I try to update to 1.6 from the SD card, I get this error:
http://i.imgur.com/NuEvT.jpg
I guess I'll have to wait for the OTA update?

I think ldrifta's guide is for 1.5
I've never used 1.5 and I only used 1.6 long enough to root and flash cm.
Universal androot might work on 1.5. Try it and see what happens. If it works then find a flash_image binary and a recovery image and flash it manually
Manual flash instructions via adb:
adb push flash_image /data/local
adb push recovery.img /sdcard
adb shell
$ su
# chmod +x /data/local/flash_image
# /data/local/flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
Flashing from the phone works the same way, just with everything run in a terminal and changed appropriately
Or if you have an eng spl you can use fastboot and 3 commands to get the latest radio and spl and custom recovery. Look for ezterry's 14mb ram thread
I think something is up with my G1's hardware. Before I completely wiped everything, I had been having problems with the SD card not being detected most of the time. I tried different cards, and none of them seemed to improve the situation. So, I followed ldrifta's guide since I was already on Android 1.5. I was got through step 1 (installing OI File Manager, installing flashrec from the SD card, and then flashed the backup recovery. I rebooted into recovery mode (I guess it was just the new recovery that I had just flashed). I then wiped the device and when I went to flash the .zip file, it wouldn't let me do so, giving some errors about not being able to read the SD card or something. So I rebooted back into normal Android 1.5 (I think) and now I'm stuck not being able to activate the phone because there's no data. I guess I'll have to go back to RC29 to reactivate. This is beginning to seem like way too much trouble. Ugh.
I had issue with class 2 sdcards in my device. They randomly wouldn't work. Maybe you are having the same problem. Try a class 4 or faster card.
Or if you got to the point of having an eng spl, the only thing the sdcard is needed for us flashing roms. How far did you get into ldrifta's guide?
I got through step 1 and had just started step 2 where I went to wipe the device. The installing update .zip didn't seem to work. I went ahead and reflashed back to RC29 and now I'm back with Android 1.0.
I've tried two SD cards: A 1 GB Transcend (no class because it's not an SDHC card) and two different 4 GB SanDisks (each class 2).
Try to follow his guide up to getting an eng spl if you don't already have one. If you have one then flash the new radio and spl and a recovery via fastboot. Then try to get a class 4 sdcard and see if it helps

I assume I still have the default SPL installed. I don't think I was able to flash any other SPLs. I'll go through and try to upgrade Android again to 1.5 or 1.6. And speaking of that, do I need to install 1.5 before installing 1.6? I see that the .zip for 1.5 is much bigger than 1.6's. Are the updates incremental, meaning I have to have 1.5 installed first and then upgrade to 1.6?
Okay, I got 1.6 installed. I installed 1.5 CRB43, and then 1.5 CRC1, and finally 1.6 DRC83. Apparently you can't update directly from CRB43 to DRC83. I guess I'm now set to start rooting, flashing recoveries, flashing radios, and installing custom ROMs...
I'd suggest Ginger Yoshi 1.2.1
I'm still a bit confused on the process that I'd follow, however. I see guides that say that I need to have a certain radio, installed, a certain recovery, etc. I'm still not exactly sure of what I need or what I need to do it. I know that I can't just flash a custom ROM from the stock recovery and expect it to work. For example, how do I check my radio version and recovery (I think I have the stock recovery)?

Hey guys,
I recently had issues with the HD2 I purchased from ebay. The seller said it was fine and it was, just a few little screen cracks and lag issues had to be mended.
So I did what most people do and took it to my local phone repair store.
Now, I sent it in and it was booting magldr and android RAFdroid 2.2 or something like that and everything was fine just lagging and shutting down when I ran large games or large apps ( main problem ) <-- the reason I wanted it fixed.
But now it came back into my possession and it wont boot at all it just comes up with the image posted below.
the only thing I have managed to boot onto it is the HTC default stock - RUU_Leo_Telstra_WWE_1.72.841.0 -
BUT
Even the - RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2 - Didn't work.
Is my phone screwed? where should I go from here?

you flashed telstra rom, but sure its a telstra model hd2? That screen is usually encountered when one tries to flash the wrong stock rom whilst hspl is installed.
Hey I also just tried installing the
and that failed but I got this message (read below), any ideas?
I'm going to continue trying to flash more stock roms until one works that isn't the telstra one.
Do you have any idea's on what I could do to maybe erase all the data on it and start again?
(I'm pretty sure task29 only does a specific part of data deletion)
well first off, IS it a telstra? It will say telstra on the actual phone if i'm not mistaken? (or perhaps not, cant remember)
Secondly, what does it say in bootloader? (all lines, please)
I had the same problem
Hi, I had the same problem yesterday but soon had it fixed!
First you have to make sure you've got the correct stock ROM, as samosamuel pointed out. You should just be able to go to your countries HTC site and find your ROM.
Download the ROM, rename it to .zip and extract the files. Find the file with the .nbh extension, copy it to the root of your micro-sd card. Boot your phone holding down power and volume down. It should now install fine.
Thank you all so much for your help.
After installing the correct stock rom I was able to re-install the HSPL and then Magldr Thank you.
software update failed
Hey guys,
I recently had issues with the HD2 I purchased from ebay. The seller said it was fine and it was, just a few little screen cracks and lag issues had to be mended.
So I did what most people do and took it to my local phone repair store.

well for a start there are no hd2s that would take both of those roms, , , they are for different versions. The wwe 3.14 is for unbranded (carrier unlocked) regular hd2s, the 1.72 one is for telstra branded hd2s, , so a phone that took one wouldn't take the other (well unless using hspl of course, but im just making the point that it isn't as simple as getting 'a' stock rom).
so, first job - enter bootloader (power off - voldown(keep holding this) - tap and release power)
in stripey screen, (bootloader) please write out all the lines (or take a picture)

S-OFFWhat is S-OFF?
When you buy the m8 it comes with security measures into bootloader, which prevent you from installing custom firmwares or other tweaks. By obtaining S-Off, you can completely ignore those rules and do basically whatever you want with your device.
How to get S-OFF?
Currently there is only one method of obtaining s-off and that is by using sunshine. It costs 25$ but its worth it if you ask me. It is found in the form of an app., when you first install it it will check for compatibility if your device is compatible it will bring you to the paying screen.

You can find it here
SupercidWhat does Supercid do?
It allows you to flash ANY FIRMWARE to the device regardless of the carrier.
This method is via fastboot This means that no script or editing is required
S-Off required!!!!!
1 ) Download adb tools from the attachments
2.) On your PC open your C: Drive (or any drive)
3 ) Create a new folder called "adb" and extract the files from adb.zip into it. Make sure you get a folder location of C:\adb
4 ) Open command prompt and type
cd C:\adb
5) Switch on your phone (regular home screen) and connect it by USB (Ensure USB debugging is on and fast boot is off in the settings)
6) Enter in the command premote
adb devices
You should get a list of devices attached with your serial number
7) Then enter the command
adb reboot-bootloader
device WILL reboot in bootloader and will connect via fastboot
8) Then Enter
fastboot oem readcid
Make a note of your original CID, this is very important
9) Then Enter
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
10) Then Enter
fastboot oem readcid
You should get a conformation saying that your cid is 11111111
11) Then navigate to the power down option on your device via the volume buttons
12) That is it Now you have Supercid !!!!!
To return to stock cid:
It is the same process but in place of step 9 enter the command
fastboot write cid YOURCID
where YOURCID is the CID you made a note of
so for me this would be
fastboot oem writecid HTC__J15

#12 now you can flash any rom you want is wrong. You can flash any rom you want on any cid as long as the bootloader is unlocked, a custom recovery is installed and that you are running the compatible firmware. Supercid is definitely not the thing you need to flash any rom.
This all gives the impression you need supercid to flash roms which is wrong.
S-off serves the purpose to put back any boot loader flags, turn it back to LOCKED for lets say warranty purposes. And to enable you to convert the phone to any (branded or unbranded) firmware you wish, to downgrade and upgrade the hboot. Those sort of things.
Supercid alone does not debrand a device.
Example :
The phone is vodaphone branded then you can flash the wwe *.**.401 FIRMWARE to debrand it to the wwe type devices. Putting superCID on a vodaphone branded device does NOT unbrand it !
Nice guide but definitely not complete.
Just saying.

More pictures means easier understanding
I understand but please edit the part that supercid unbrands a device, because it just simply does not

Edited thanks for that!!!!
Not to nag....but it's still there. I would change that to ANY FIRMWARE instead of ANY ROM.

Sorry just to add on to this post if you don't mind.
I currently have a Three UK branded M8 and I'd like to turn it into the stock European/UK unbranded version so that when the 6.0 update arrives I don't have to wait for Three UK to get it months after (also I want rid of the Three splash screen).
Can I just flash the latest Euro/UK unbranded RRU without needing S-OFF to enable the OTA to come or would I still need to change the CID as well to the Euro/UK one (which I think is HTC__001?) to enable OTAs?
As far as I can see from all the searching I've done I couldn't change the CID without S-OFF and therefore would have the Euro/UK image installed but not have OTAs enabled as the CID would be different?

If you can't change the CID and MID
you can't flash different RUU
to do that must have S-OFF
if you just want OTA just unroot flash stack Rom unroot onev and flash back stack recovery you can get OTA

My phone was also on three UK. I S-OFF'ed last Sunday and changed the CID and MID to US unlocked. Now I'm enjoying marshmallow. There is only one way to de-brand and that is S-OFF.

Check your MID and do the respective RUU first to return your firmware to complete stock.
