[Q] Wifi n standard not working on my X8 - XPERIA X8 General

Hello there,
i follow all the steps here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019371
i edited the file, i've checked if the other files exists and all seems ok. I'm using cm7 on my X8 but i can notice some more battery draining but no n standard working.
Did i missed something?
i edited the ini file located in /system/etc/wifi and i only changed those values indicated in the post.
If i put the router only working in n standard i lost my connection.
Do you have anything i can check to see if i made a mistake somewhere?
Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
I had a similar problem, so thought I'd post the rather simple solution.
My wifi was working fine on my X8 with Floyo 0.25 (2.2.9) which I installed the other day. All of a sudden it just stopped working, constantly searching for a network and then saying disconnected. It only showed the saved connections I had, but none of the others (there are usually over 20 visible within my apartment block).
I tried all the usual things after reading on forums, deleting recently installed apps, reinstalling the system only using the advanced restore option in xrecovery, still no joy.
I got fed up, and just deleted my saved network for my router, and lo and behold all the networks that usually are there became visible again, and I could reconnect to my router, put in the password and it was working again.
I hope this helps someone else avoid 2 days of frustration!

Wifi problem due to wifi helper [Solved]

Today I went to my university after a long time and tried to get access to the university network (eduroam) with an app called Wifi Helper (you have probably already heard about it). After a few tries my wifi suddenly stopped working and now goes off everytime I try to search for networks. Even now at home when I try to connect to my home network it doesn't work and my phone doesnt find neither my network or the networks from the neighbors. Also all the networks saved in my phone disappeared and I can't add any new network configuration.
To summarize:
-if I turn the wifi on the phone makes a scan for wifi-networks but doesn't find any
-the wifi goes off after 15-20 seconds
-I can't add new networks
I made a search in the forum but didn't find anything similar. I'm not 100% sure wifi helper caused this but I would say I'm 99,99% sure.
Until now I've tried uninstalling wifi helper, rebooting the phone, taking out the battery but nothing seems to help....so I would recommend not to use this app (if it's allowed to make such a recommendation).
I wish this has a solution and the wireless can work again. Hopefully someone can help me here or give me a couple of ideas (since this doesn't seem to be a common issue)
Edit: can someone tell me what files you have in /data/misc/wifi ? I checked in my phone with root explorer and I only found reg_code and wpa_supplicant.conf ...maybe wifi helper deleted something there.
Try a factory restet, its a bit of a pain but it should fix it
You mean to flash to the original firmware? X_X
I hope that's not the only way...
Maybe there's something missing in my wifi folder that I could compare with other phones.
I think wifi helper deleted almost everything in my wpa_supplicant.conf
This is all I got in there:
ctrl_interface=tiwlan0
update_config=1
can someone check if thats ok?
ctrl_interface=DIR=/data/system/wpa_supplicant GROUP=system
update_config=1
network={
Network info goes here
}

wifi helper screw-up your wpa_supplicant.conf, it happened to me 2.
Update the "ctrl_interface=DIR=/data/system/wpa_supplicant GROUP=system" like Bourbon Brain mentioned and your wifi will work normal again (hope you know how to do that).
Thanks for your help
I had to backup all my data to do the factory reset (I had totally forgotten about it ) and it took me quite a lot of time to set everything back to normal but it worked. After that the only difference I could find was in wpa_supplicant.conf so I guess if I had changed it to what Bourbon Brain and gpmg762 said it would have worked too (even much easier). Unfortunately I didn't wait till today
Glad to help regardless

hello all,
The last week I was using my wifi without problems in any wifi, I left the wifi on and after a while my phone shutdowned (lost charge). After this, my phone isn't connecting to any wifi (even those that it was able). I did a factory reset and he doesn't detect the networks.
I though I had the same issue with my x10 but editting the file didn't take effect on my phone. Tryed to delete the wpa_supplicant config file, edit it, downloaded various wifi fixers, and nothing seems to work. Could you help me?
Thank you

WIFI Connection Matters...

Ive had my HD2 for about 6 months working like a charm. A few days ago suddenly without any reason, I stopped being able to use WIFI. The wireless networks are found and i connect to them as usual but then, I only get DNS errors or server not found messages, as if I have some sort of a proxy misconfiguration.
I did nothing to the phone, didn't change any setting or installed any software, it just stopped working. I tried every possible configuration and as a last resource I hard reset the phone, then, everything works again as usual. Upon restoring my configuration performing a full restore with SPB Backup, again, I cannot connect to the internet. The hardware is clearly working and its a WM configuration issue of some sort.
Id hate to have to re-install everything from scratch because of an issue like this. Ive even tried importing connection manager registry settings from the hard reset version that works perfectly but that doesn't solve the issue either. This is so strange...
Any hints before I give up? Thanks to all in advance for the advice

Yes I know this, and I didnt do it. I tried different settings once the WIFI problems started but did a restore after that. This happened by itself without me changing anything in the first place!
Make a separate back-up of your PIM data, put all your CAB files in one folder and a hard reset should not take you more than half an hour to reinstall everything. You can even find on this forum how to make a .cab file for your email settings.
Once it all works, make a new back-up and you are back in business again.

[Q] My Defy has stopped scanning for wifi networks.

Hi
I have a defy that has been happily running cm7.1 for a month or two. I am on holiday and have been using the defy to connect to wifi hotspots every 3-4 days, so have not updated anything or tinkered with settings etc.
The defy has just stopped scanning for networks, or finding wifi networks it has already used.
Turn on wifi and the defy does 'connecting' and then 'disconnected' every wifi network it has settings for is 'not in range' click on scan and it does nothing.
This is really frustrating as instead of spending 10mins in a wifi hotspot downloading stuff to read latter, I now have to search for internet cafes and spend an hour or two to keep on top of work.
Help would be appreciated, although I wont have any way of connecting the defy to a computer until i get home in a weeks time.
You could try forgetting every network and then press menu>scan
thanks, i have not deleted/forgotten all the networks, just the local ones. Sadly this has had no effect.
hey
Yup. ... even I had this problem once.
Solution - do a fresh flashing from the sbf and then the rom ... no nandroid restore .
Worked for me ( though I had to do the process twice )
Temme how it goes
I have a similar problem on GGL ROM (Defy Green Lens [Android 2.3.6]), which is a slightly modded version of the stock Defy+ ROM from Tmobile DE. Wifi worked flawlessly on all earlier ROMs (eclair, froyo, miui, cm7 and cm9). Toggling the battery settings to performance mode seems to delay the problem, but at some point the device loses the connection and scans for networks that other devices have managed to hold a stable connection to.

It happened me twice (with cm7). The only solution that worked for me was to delete (or rename) /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf and reboot. To do this, you need to have root permission and use root explorer/adb/shell emulator or even sshd
Keep in mind that you will have to put again all the passwords, so if you copy somewhere the wpa_supplicant.conf is better.
I read somewhere that performing a backup with titanium backup just regarding the wi-fi AP list (and restoring it) worked, but I never tried.
If that worked you could try to rename wpa_supplicant.conf to wpa_supplicant.conf.bak. Reboot. Delete newly created (by the system) wpa_supplicant.conf and rename wpa_supplicant.conf.bak to wpa_supplicant.conf and reboot. It should work.
Bye,
Peppe
PS: @yamandude it is clear that flashing an sbf will work, but that's like killing a mosquito with an atomic bomb
I had this problem too when I was on a holiday in a hotel that all my friends were happily surfing the internet with the hotel Wifi while I'm the only one struggling trying to connect. The Defy sees the Wifi/routers but wouldn't connect it no matter how I set or tweak the settings.. I end up restoring my backup via CWM when I got back home and solved it. The above work around would surely save a treat considering I wouldn't need to restore my entire backup.

Wifi not working

Creating a new topic, because the other one is tagged as solved, but it doesnt solve my problem however.
So my wifi is not working, it's connecting to any wifi hotspot but not sending data thru that, which ends in failing loading any pages on IE, cannot download any apps from market and so on...
Anyway this is what I tried so far:
1. Flashed to stock rogers (also tried different Tango roms)
2. Did hard reset procedure via hardware keys (Format all Yes)
3. Did hard reset procedure via About menu
4. Did hard reset procedure via Samsung Diagnosis code sequence
5. Logged to my wifi network, everything looks fine at this point.
6. Opened IE and entered google.com:
"We're having trouble connecting to this webpage" (sometimes no error message but white page with scrolling bars appearing on touch)
7. Tried to access my wifi router via IP address (192.168.1.1) - the same results like above
8. Tried to ping my Samsung Fous IP (192.168.1.18) from my PC with success
9. Disabled wifi network security on home wifi router, the Focus still not working
Additionaly tried a method that fix issues with wifi after using latest wp7 tools, but it didnt help at all.
When using my providers APN there is no problem with opening pages on IE etc., but it's not Wifi.... Internet is also working if I have USB cable plugged in, but again it's not wifi.
Cannot use warranty, the phone is from the USA and I'm in Europe... without any warranty service.
What else I can do, maybe there are some diagnosis codes that can actually help with real diagnosis on what happened with wifi on my phone?
Hello again (from the other thread). For completeness, add the following:
- current OS version
- did/not use WindowBreak
- when did the problem start (if you can identify an event and OS version/revision) - or you noticed
There might be a test for wireless in the "diagnosis codes"... Good luck!
After you use the diagnosis fix, it might take some time, mine didn't work immediately but after some time, it detected my home network. But it seems you are able to connect but internet does not work, this is certainly issue with router/DNS settings in your phone, because I have faced these problems in iPhone, it might wrongly mapped to unreachable ip, but never faced this issue in Windows Phone, you might try changing the default gateway/dns settings, you should also reset your modem/router, and try basic setup before WPA/WPA2 setup

Hi there
Currently using 7.10.8773.98, (MAGLDR 2.0) but tried different versions, even vanilla pre-mango ones, they didnt work well with wifi on my phone either. I checked it at friends home wifi, which is totaly different network and routers.
I never used WindowBreak, never had to because my phone was already unlocked long time ago with ChevronWP7 application.
Noticed the problem about 2 weeks ago, but I didnt use wifi too much, so it could started much earlier. Last installed application was WP7 Tools 0.8 alpha, and all I did back then was using some built-in tweaks (3G?) if there is any, cant remember to be honest but for sure I wasnt editing registry or anything like that, I just play some games from time to time, cant event tell why I installed it, maybe because I noticed there is a new version. I cant tell because I never paid attention to it especially with rare wifi usage at a time.
I have isolated the problem I guess, and it's not the phone's fault. Something wrong with the main access point (Mikrotik) at my place. This is weird because everything is working just not on Samsung Focus. I digged thru many options and couldnt find anything that blocked or stuff like that. Well took it to totaly different place and another wifi network, and guess what - it's connecting to wifi with data flow...
Anyway consider this topic as solved.

wifi turns on by itself

Ok over the last couple months my Wifi will randomly connect on its own. I have checked about every setting I can find and checked any new apps installed and cannot find what it turning it on. I have searched through about a dozen threads about this but have not found an answer. I will turn it off and not even 2 seconds later it will turn it on again. Im tired of this. Esspecially at work since the proxy filter blocks a lot of websites/content so i have to keep it on 3g connection.
Any insight or hidden settings to make it only turn on when I manually connect (yeah i know....)
I am running on the R2D2 2.3.3 version (2nd to last firmware update)
FXR
I fixed that on my CM7 D2 by using FXR WiFi Repair. Don't forget to reboot.
I'm pretty sure that's what fixed it, but at the same time I used Startup Manager to turn off a bunch of stuff that may have somehow made a request for WiFi. iHeart Radio and stuff like that.
It will delete all your hotspots...
