Wifi not working - Focus General

Creating a new topic, because the other one is tagged as solved, but it doesnt solve my problem however.
So my wifi is not working, it's connecting to any wifi hotspot but not sending data thru that, which ends in failing loading any pages on IE, cannot download any apps from market and so on...
Anyway this is what I tried so far:
1. Flashed to stock rogers (also tried different Tango roms)
2. Did hard reset procedure via hardware keys (Format all Yes)
3. Did hard reset procedure via About menu
4. Did hard reset procedure via Samsung Diagnosis code sequence
5. Logged to my wifi network, everything looks fine at this point.
6. Opened IE and entered google.com:
"We're having trouble connecting to this webpage" (sometimes no error message but white page with scrolling bars appearing on touch)
7. Tried to access my wifi router via IP address (192.168.1.1) - the same results like above
8. Tried to ping my Samsung Fous IP (192.168.1.18) from my PC with success
9. Disabled wifi network security on home wifi router, the Focus still not working
Additionaly tried a method that fix issues with wifi after using latest wp7 tools, but it didnt help at all.
When using my providers APN there is no problem with opening pages on IE etc., but it's not Wifi.... Internet is also working if I have USB cable plugged in, but again it's not wifi.
Cannot use warranty, the phone is from the USA and I'm in Europe... without any warranty service.
What else I can do, maybe there are some diagnosis codes that can actually help with real diagnosis on what happened with wifi on my phone?

Hello again (from the other thread). For completeness, add the following:
- current OS version
- did/not use WindowBreak
- when did the problem start (if you can identify an event and OS version/revision) - or you noticed
There might be a test for wireless in the "diagnosis codes"... Good luck!

After you use the diagnosis fix, it might take some time, mine didn't work immediately but after some time, it detected my home network. But it seems you are able to connect but internet does not work, this is certainly issue with router/DNS settings in your phone, because I have faced these problems in iPhone, it might wrongly mapped to unreachable ip, but never faced this issue in Windows Phone, you might try changing the default gateway/dns settings, you should also reset your modem/router, and try basic setup before WPA/WPA2 setup

Hi there
Currently using 7.10.8773.98, (MAGLDR 2.0) but tried different versions, even vanilla pre-mango ones, they didnt work well with wifi on my phone either. I checked it at friends home wifi, which is totaly different network and routers.
I never used WindowBreak, never had to because my phone was already unlocked long time ago with ChevronWP7 application.
Noticed the problem about 2 weeks ago, but I didnt use wifi too much, so it could started much earlier. Last installed application was WP7 Tools 0.8 alpha, and all I did back then was using some built-in tweaks (3G?) if there is any, cant remember to be honest but for sure I wasnt editing registry or anything like that, I just play some games from time to time, cant event tell why I installed it, maybe because I noticed there is a new version. I cant tell because I never paid attention to it especially with rare wifi usage at a time.

I have isolated the problem I guess, and it's not the phone's fault. Something wrong with the main access point (Mikrotik) at my place. This is weird because everything is working just not on Samsung Focus. I digged thru many options and couldnt find anything that blocked or stuff like that. Well took it to totaly different place and another wifi network, and guess what - it's connecting to wifi with data flow...
Anyway consider this topic as solved.

How I solved Wifi problem

Lately I have been reading many post related to Wifi problems in the HD. I had the same. Even I was very near my router I couldn't connect to the net and the signal was very weak.
So I entered my router configuration and I found a solution.
Before, for security options I had: WPA-PSK [TKIP] then I changed to WPA2-PSK [AES] (of course you also have to change your HD connection configuratoin), and now it works great¡¡¡¡
Now I have all the bars for the signal and I can connect very easily.
Hope it works for other people
I have a similar WiFi connectivity problem, but after reading of the poor service provided by most vendors and HTC itself, I will try to gather some more experience with the problem before I contact HTC or my vendor, and hopefully find a solution. Bellow is my experience so far:
I own an HTC Touch HD since January and have a similar problem, only it surfaced last week. Before I had only used the WiFi connectivity briefly. The problems started after I installed an AP on my house expressively for the new PDA. The node is fully open and set to B/G/N protocols.
After a couple days of medium (couple hours per day) use the WiFi connection suddenly quit, the device would try to connect (the top bar showing the WiFi connection animation continuously) and after a few moments gave up with a dialog box stating the current network settings were wrong (even thou they worked fine a few hours earlier).
I tried several hot and cold resets, but only solved the problem after flashing a new ROM; even then the same symptoms reappeared after a couple of days of regular use. Again no re-setting would cure the problem, and now not even flashing the ROM again would work. Nonetheless, some hours latter the WiFi would connect perfectly with the same nodes it refused to before, and in very short time.
I have witnessed this cycle twice and have yet not been able to find a trigger for it, but will keep my eyes open for any tell tale signs, and post any findings here.
I could add to the above mentioned problems.
i got a new hd just few days back.
The wifi worked great. But now it doesnt.
I have disabled wifi, so can start it whenever i require.
I click on wifi button to enable it.
Then open opera, try any website.
it will open fine.
For instance say my email at gmail.com
Now after that if i try to open anysites or even continue with my mail, it shows error saying connection not available.
One of the workaround is to go back to toggele wifi off and switched it on.
Not sure if anyone faces a similar issue.
I's been about a week since my last post and I have already witnessed a couple of cycles of WiFi connecting perfectly and then not connecting at all.
No matter the settings I try after it decides not to connect, it won't. Even to nodes it had connected perfectly and fast jus minutes before.
I thought re-flashing might help but so far has proven ineffective. Once I thought some part of the non-volitile memory was causing the problem since after I cleared the memory I could connect for a while.
Any thoughts anyone?
Same problems here.
For the last hour I have been reading 10ths of threads here concerning WiFi problems.
My HD's WiFi worked fine on my home and outside for about 2 months. Now it doesn't. It reports connection, but no program can use the internet. At best, it seems to be able to exchange some Kbytes the for just a few seconds after a connection is established. Then nothing. Connected but unusable.
Tried everything Internet/My Work/My ISP, WAP enabled/disabled, soft/hard reset, everything.
When connected through ActiveSync everything works fine, all programs see internet.
Has anybody taken their HD to the service? Has any HTC service worldwide identified the problem as hardware and solved it by replacing something?

I have just encountered a similar problem, but already used wpa/wpa2 with aes. Have tried a hard reset with no joy. My old HTC Touch has no probs connecting via wifi nor does my laptop so I would surmise that the prob is with the HD and not the router.
I am going to try flashing with the latest version of Duttys 6.1 rom and see what gives.
Edit: Tried flashing with new rom with no success. Take a look at this post.

There are a couple of files to download but i only used the second ie this one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1363759&postcount=2
Now no problems and can connect via wifi no probs, ip address assigned by dhcp.
Try to go into WiFi settings and move the power slider to max performance. I need to do it here to access my router. This happened also with my HTC TyTN II, with any recent radio firmware. The original WM 6.0 ROM and it's radio work fine in low power mode, but the new ones appear connected but are always at 1 Mbps and there's no traffic until you move the slider to performance mode.
You go into WiFi settings and you configure manual IP and DNS so as router.
DNS is important.
Whit manual configuration, Wifi work always.
(sorry for my english)

This is not a solution. I didn 't buy the device to be able to connect to my home WiFi only. What about public hotspots? Or hotels? Or whatever outside your home?

Wi-Fi connectivity issues

I am experiencing a couple of annoying issues with my new HTC HD2. Most of which seems to have coincided with my old O2 number being ported over to T-Mobile. Prior to this I had a temporary number and all settings seemed to work ok (although frankly I cannot recall to be sure). Once the number was ported everything went a bit mental, I could not connect to any internet app via Wi-Fi and various searches boiled this down to an erroneous proxy server setting which once removed resolved my problem. I also had an email issue which I partially resolved by deleting my account and setting it up again from scratch. The two issues I am now left with are a bit odd.
When connected via Wi-Fi neither ie6 nor email will connect - it seems to be that neither of these applications will fallback to wi-fi if there is no mobile coverage/connectivity. To clarify, I have deliberately turned my phone radio off to test it purely with wi-fi - with both apps I get the "cannot connect" message where it prompts me to check that mobile service is available and I am not in flight mode etc. So clearly it is not willing to use wi-fi even though it is connected and I can use Opera with no issues - this does not seem to impact any other application. I wonder if there is a registry issue that is stopping them from using wifi.
I can get round this temporarily if I go into settings>all settings>connections>connections>advanced>select networks and then change "programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:" from "T-mobile Internet" to "My Work Network" however this only reverses the issue i.e. they then work with wi-fi but not on mobile internet (with the added issue that all other internet apps will no longer working on mobile internet) - so this is hardly a satisfactory resolution.
I have had a bash with various other settings but nothing seems to work - has anyone else experienced this issue?
is the option "the internet"available? that would make the app use whatever connection is available to the phone.
as far as the number being ported starting this I'd be tempted to backup and hard reset.let the phone pick up the sim with the new settings from fresh.
Thanks for the prompt response. I have checked other options and whilst there are others none of them are configured. The fact that other applications happily work under either wifi or mobile internet would seem to imply it is just these applications that are being a bit obtuse rather than any of the connectivity settings.
I guess I may have to hard reset - although I am not convinced that the SIM would govern connectivity settings of microsoft applications.
Just noticed QuickGPS does the same thing i.e. will only connect through mobile internet - it complains it cannot connect if I try through wi-fi only.
bl**dy hell - Google Maps does not work now either!!!!!!!!!
lol, one problem breeding others, it's a "feature" hehe.
Ok i'll shut up now.............did a hard reset and all seems good for the moment at least. Frankly I clearly should have bowed to your better judgement LOL
sometimes its the best first thing to try. once you have done a few they only take 20 30 minutes, you can spend hours with network problems.

Strange Marketplace problem

Non branded hd2 on stock wwe 1.66 rom on t-mobiles network. For some strange reason I can connect to Marketplace via t-mobile but not through my home wifi, on wifi it says unable to connect to server, pls check your connection (the that it has encountered a serious problem), but my connection is fine as I can surf via wifi no problem. I uninstalled marketplace, soft reset, reinstalled, still ith problem persists, anyone else have this?
BUMP
some mobile programs require a cellular data connection to work properly. I'm guessing marketplace is one of them.
On second thought, looks like I can access Microsoft Marketplace on wifi. Are you sure that your wifi is working and doesn't require going through an approval process? (Some wifi's have a home page that you have to agree to terms on before you can access)
I had the same problem with Active sync with a cable I could surf the internet but couldn’t access market place downloads (Marketplace could not cannot connect to a server) so I disconnected and just connected to the modem Wi-Fi and no problem with Market Place all downloaded.
Strange
Had this issue myself with T-Mobile,
After months of searching it would appear that the problem was that Marketplace requries and authentication code and at some point when using the phone this was switched off.
From what I read the person didnt know how to change it within the phone but could view that it was turned off, they put on a new ROM and Marketplace flew into action.
I followed this and also slapped on a new ROM..... has worked for me and am using Marketplace to the best of its abilities.
Basic answer....flash a new ROM!

(Solved) WiFi not working, Samsung Focus i917, after latest WP7 tools

I just updated the WP7 tools alpha 0.9 version and installed Bazaar and it worked fine, my phone is dev & interop unlocked, now I'm not able to use my home WiFi, which was working fine earlier, I restarted modem multiple times, other device connect well, disabled Wireless Sync from Zune, restarted phone multiple times, WiFi does not detect my home network, internet sharing works so WiFi component should be working fine, any help appreciated
*update* fixed my issues
Followed the instructions from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23052372&postcount=2 and mysteriously after sometime my WiFi started working!
when wifi ON, turn cellular data off or try this :
//fix data wifi 3g issue
Anyone with data issues try:
Diagnosis > *#32489# > Back > Back (to Phone Control) > [7] Network Control > [1] GFC > [3] Setting Cancellation
Wait for it to say success, then reboot. This fixed all my data connection issues after applying this patch.

If you unlocked through WindowBreak, it's known to cause data issues. Have a look in the main thread for a fix or read here.
Alternately, you can ask in the main Wp7 Root Tools thread (or Heathcliff).
I have the same issue, the only difference my WP7 Tools are v.0.8 not 0.9. Installed it some time ago, I'm not using Wifi too much so didnt noticed that, but cannot use my home wifi network anymore, actually cannot use ANY wifi network.
I'm however unsure if it's connected with WP7 tools or not. Any clues what to do now? Hard reset, reflash .... etc?
I can browse local wifi networks, connect to them, get new IP address with DHCP on router, but cannot browse the internet, or use the market. Can even see a wifi icon, so I'm connected without connectivity
I belive it all has started since the update of WP to 8107.79
Flashed, formated and restarted my Focus many times today. Tried different roms and settings, but never managed to make wifi working again.
Is there someone who can help with that?

Looks like an issue tied to the current radio, which is the same in most ROMs at the moment (custom).
I suggest you try a stock ROM (AT&T or Rogers). If you already tried that, next step is a factory reset (see the Diagnosis codes thread or Focus wiki-my sig) and then warranty.
As for factory reset, I tried the one in the about menu, then tried the one with hardware keys. Is there anything else which can reset it harder than those before? maybe via samsung diagnosis ?

You should take people's sig more seriously (or pay more attention to)
Exact quote from the Focus wiki:
Hard Reset: Samsung Focus will be returned to its original state with full data wipe.
Method 1: (PREFERRED) Dial ##634# from the phone pad press the call button when the diagnostic screen appears type *2767*3855# to preform a full restore.

I just wanted to remove my previous post but you already replied to it. Well I'm more smarter now
Anyway this is what I tried so far:
When using my providers APN there is no problem with opening pages on IE etc., but it's not Wifi.... Internet is also working if I have USB cable plugged in, but again it's not wifi.
Cannot use warranty, the phone is from the USA and I'm in Europe... without any warranty service.
Is that all then? Throw this away? Maybe something else possible?
ps. I found someone else with very similar problem -> http://www.everythingwm.com/forum/threads/wifi-connected-not.37089/ Nobody can help there too, wth
No worries, mate, it's advice and you should never be offended by advice, as it's meant to help.
Wow, you really tried.
If you unlocked through WindowBreak then try the fix I posted above (post #2). If not... I hope someone else can help.
I unlocked long time ago, pre-mango chevron7 etc... It (wifi) stopped to work all of sudden bout two weeks ago, maybe I can try that method, who knows....

[Q] New S5 not automatically connecting to WiFi

Hello everyone,
Last week I upgraded my S4 to a brand new S5 on T-Mobile and currently it's stock and unrooted. It works great, except it won't automatically connect to WiFi. Every time I encounter a known WiFi it'll say Sign in Required. I'll press Connect and it'll then connect and function perfectly.
This smells like a software bug to me, but then I'd expect more posts on this topic (I didn't see any posts on XDA, and posts elsewhere were unhelpful).
What I'd ultimately like to know is if this is a hardware defect and I should get my phone replaced before it's too late, or if this is something that a software update (or rooting and flashing) will fix. Or of course it could be neither...
Thanks!
I have the same probblem and I am dying for a solution. I've spent hours googling and testing different things to no avail.
I am going to try to bring as much detail as I can, hopefully someone can pitch in.
Things I have read might work:
"forgetting" the connection and recreating it
Turning off and turning back on
Turning off, removing the battery
Turning off, removing the battery and the sim and waiting a minute (seems like voodoo to me)
Factory reset
I've tried everything, bar the factory reset which I am reluctant to do, specially when people's answers on forums said it wasn't a solution.
To try and shed more light, I would also add that:
It does this with any network (so it's not channel/router issue)
It does this consistently (and since I got my phone)
It finds networks, but just won't connect
It always connects fine if I pick the network (so it's not a distance/bad reception issue)
My phone is unrooted and stock and I have no weird apps (only popular/regular ones, social media, news, and so on)
My options are set correctly (notifications for open networks is checked and wifi is on)
I really hope someone can help as I rely on wifi a lot, and this is kind of a deal-breaker for me.
So I found a psuedo-fix here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723486
The key part being:
1. >Wifi >Advanced >Disable (uncheck) Smart network switch.
2. Forget connection, then establish connection again. Works no issues.

This has "fixed" it for me, but it also means I no longer have Smart Network Switch which is kinda annoying, albeit less annoying.
A true solution would be lovely.

Tried, didn't work for me.
I now have factory reset and let google reinstall all my apps.
Until now, auto-connect works.
The only thing I didn't do this time that I did last time is deactivate a bunch of samsung apps that come pre-installed.

I have been having the same issue. I can't get any answers either. It really is frustrating. I am going to keep trying to find out. When I called the T-Mobile store they said that I could bring it back w/in the 14 days & replace it and I may do that if I can't get an answer for the problem! If you happen to find out what the answer is PLEASE post and let us know! Thanks
My wife has the same issue with not auto connecting. She has a AT&T S5 that is not rooted....thanks to AT&T putting her in prison lockdown. I think it could be something with the last update because her phone used to auto connect just fine and now it doesn't. The strange thing is that she just now noticed it not connecting and she had took an update that was a few weeks ago or whenever it actually was and now we don't really know for sure if it's really just now an issue or has been since the update....imo I think it could be something with the update.
I have an S5 as well with no issues, but then again, I have the TMO that's rooted and carrier unlocked running custom rom.....thanks TMO for not being D***'s like at&t
Solution!
Long story short, there's a problem with Android and DHCP. Specifically, an IP associated with a router doesn't die when it should and attempting another connection goes back to this IP instead of using the correct (new) IP.
The good news is to forget the problematic wifi connection, head into /data/misc/dhcp/ and remove the files, reboot then connect to wifi. That flushes the DHCP lease information and life should be good.

use a program like "root explorer" or "ES file explorer" and navigate to your root folder ( / )
then follow the path /data/misc/dhcp/ , you will find the files i mentioned there.

I quoted this post since you just claim its Android and DHCP, if thats the case, wouldnt all android phones just not work like the S5?

Hey I'm having the same issue, only with my work open wifi. The phone will be aware there is a wifi and it tells me to sign in. I go to the wifi settings and tell it to connect it does, but if it drops for any reason it won't automatically connect again, I have to go through the same thing every time.
I read this in a previous post:

I have X-plore and went to the root/data folder, but there was nothing in the data folder - Do you have to be rooted for this to work?
Any help would be appreciated.
Samsung Galaxy S5 - Koodo - Unrooted
solved mine by follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2547356
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
It works fine on my home network and others that I have a username and password for. The issue is WIFI hotspots at coffee shops and work and such, where I don't have access to the router settings.
I have an app that does an auto login when it recognizes that you need to sign in once it connects to wifi, and it works when I tell the phone to connect, but the phone will never connect automatically - I have to go into the WIFI settings and tell it to connect manually every time.
I have the 'Smart Network Switch" unchecked, and I have 'forgotten' and reconnected several times but it still happens.

Thanks. This solved my problem ?
I had a corrupt .keystore on my S5 and the fix I found by googling was to do a reset of the device.
