Ive had my HD2 for about 6 months working like a charm. A few days ago suddenly without any reason, I stopped being able to use WIFI. The wireless networks are found and i connect to them as usual but then, I only get DNS errors or server not found messages, as if I have some sort of a proxy misconfiguration.
I did nothing to the phone, didn't change any setting or installed any software, it just stopped working. I tried every possible configuration and as a last resource I hard reset the phone, then, everything works again as usual. Upon restoring my configuration performing a full restore with SPB Backup, again, I cannot connect to the internet. The hardware is clearly working and its a WM configuration issue of some sort.
Id hate to have to re-install everything from scratch because of an issue like this. Ive even tried importing connection manager registry settings from the hard reset version that works perfectly but that doesn't solve the issue either. This is so strange...
Any hints before I give up? Thanks to all in advance for the advice

Yes I know this, and I didnt do it. I tried different settings once the WIFI problems started but did a restore after that. This happened by itself without me changing anything in the first place!
Make a separate back-up of your PIM data, put all your CAB files in one folder and a hard reset should not take you more than half an hour to reinstall everything. You can even find on this forum how to make a .cab file for your email settings.
Once it all works, make a new back-up and you are back in business again.

Whenever I try to open bluetooth, The message appears. Please help..
On what unit?
just soft reset .
but do people ask for help with problems without trying to fix it with a softreset ?
i mean i used to do about min 4 softreset a week because of issues
in that way pocketpc is much more like normal windows then palm and symbian and the likes
I've tried 4 soft resets but still the same...
My unit is an xda II..
It never happened before.
Please help...
Back up your data and try a hard reset at least you will then know if it is a hardware fault or just a temporary problem.
I just did a hard reset. Before restoring the device, bluetooth worked.. But after restoring it, the same message appeared when I click the bluetooth icon.
Need advice badly.. Is there any way I can backup data only (not applications) ??
I do have the same problem with an MDA-II from T-Mobile. It worked before but as I tried using it today I got the same error message you got. No solution found for this... can´t hard reset my device at the moment.

I don't think you can do that automaticaly but perhaps you would be able to identify your data file while exploring the unit through activsync and copy them to a folder on your PC. Then do you hard reset and copy back the individual data file to the correct locations on your XDA II

Mate, what kind of advice is it to recommend a hard reset as a solution  He could have solved the problem on a much easier way.
sleekool, firstly the reason that the problem comes back after you restored the backup sounds very logical - as part of the restore process you also restore the cause of the problem. I think you could try the following two things:
If you have any BT device bonded under SETTING > CONNECTIONS > BLUETOOTH > BONDED DEVICES: Delete them there, do a soft reset and bond them again.
Other idea is to see if the SCARYBEAR tools at http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/ppc_cn_overview.html - you should install both and you should every now and then manuallt start the CheckNotification and press CLEAR there (I run it every three days or so...).

I deleted my bonded devices, installed the sarybear tools but nothing changed. I am still unable to use bluetooth on my MDA-II. He still claims that there is no bluetooth hardware installed....
Any other hints?
A hard reset and restore loses nothing but does let you know the hardware is working or not.
I did the hardware reset now and bluetooth worked fine until I restored everything. I´d really like to know what caused this problem but don´t know where to go from here.
Just noticed that there is nothing left with "bt*" at WINDOWS\STARTUP ...
Anyone else with ideas what we could check out instead of hard resetting and installing everything again manually?
Someone else having this problem?

Start with a hard reset again and just install program by program (w/o any restore) and always check in between if BT is working... either you will find out what program caused the problem  or you will find out that you must have caused it
I have to problem no also
No bluetooth hardware installed on this machine,
Has anybody found out wat the problem is
maybe some other device gotten hold of bluetooths com port ?
well activesync have all the data on it of cause as in contacts and .......
those would not require backup as they would sync to the device when it gets connected to the cradle again after the hardreset
and activsync have the add remove programs option which mean you dont have to do a full manual reinstall of the applications you want after the hardreset
and the data in my documents are always safe on the pc
the only stuff which one will have to do after a hardreset is to reinstall manualy all programs installed using cab files
and the settings like mms, wap, grps and such
not saying that i'm a big fan of doing hardresets though
Just had to do a Hard Reset, all other options didn't work, I am really upset now
Had done so many customizations, and now have to start from scratch, because i don't know what caused the problem, so I cannot do a backup reset
AND yes I do have bluetooth back again, but no longer the navman patches etc etc etc
then try and make sure that bluetooth works after you have installed each of the programs and addons you will install
maybe one of them are causing an issue with bluetooth
and when you are up and running with bluetooth do a full backup using activsync
Suddenly my HTC Prophet (WM6 & Windows Vista Business) won't connect through ActiveSync any more. Two hours ago it worked flawlessly every time, now I connect and disconnect the cable - only the battery seems to be loading, but no ActiveSync connection. Clearly, the device itself tries to connect, but the PC stays like nothing has happened. I remember having the same problem about 2 years ago with HTC Wizard, but then I replaced it then and the new one worked.
What could the problem be? I have restarted both the PC and the PPC (soft-reset) several times.
I had a similar issue after I flashed a new ROM, all was working fine, but then it wouldn't sync. I'm on an Exchange server, so I don't really mind just wiping and starting over, which is how I believe I fixed it. It it's not that go to Start>Settings>Connections>USB-to-PC and see if the box is checked. If it is checked, undo it and then see if it will connect.

10x, it worked but it's not stable too. Unchecking this option, the device connects the same way as though Bluetooth, and I also have problems with this kind of sync too. Plus, with the "advanced network functionality" (whatever this means ) everything was a bit more transparent. Without it the device sometimes connects, but most of the times does not. I'm almost sure it's the PC that is making troubles.
It's such a pain with ActiveSync...
The Advanced Network Functionality I believe enabled RNDIS support. It's supposedly more stable....or something. Have you tried backing up your contacts and stuff with PIM backup and hard resetting? You can either try that, or deleting the partnership and creating a new one, which may have been the other thing I did to make it work again.

Well, I tried many things - I even uninstalled Windows Mobile Device Center, created new partnerships, etc. I haven't tried to hard-reset, because it's a pain every time to install the software and adjust the settings on the device
I know what you mean. I've just given up on installing any software thats a pain to configure, and stuck with what's cooked into the ROM's other than my Exchange settings and IM client. However, if hard resetting turns out to be the only way to go, think of all the ROMs you could flash!
Okay, so my Hermes is acting up. I'm on Shamanix's 3.62 ROM, radio 1.54.30. Everything works great and I can get programs like HTC weather to hit the net, Avantgo, or any other programs at any time to hit the net when I'm connected. But when I start IE it shows at the bottom of the screen where it's trying to load, but instead of the KB number going up, it stays at "0" and the page never loads. No matter what site I try, it never loads. I have done I don't know how many soft resets. I use the "disable" and "restore" cingular proxy cabs when I hit wifi networks, but that's definitely not the problem. Over media net, I can log into MSN messenger at any time and it works great. If the proxy isn't enabled, I get a message saying I can't connect to messenger. I don't know what the deal is. Any ideas? I've searched through everything I can find to try and figure out why IE won't load!! Thanks!!
Same problem here...no internet through PIE. Media Net screwed up? I am on F-32 WM6.1 rom. PIE ran fine for few weeks then just died....

That's how mine has been. It happened earlier this week, and somehow PIE came back after several soft reboots. If anyone knows how to fix this, short of reloading the rom, I would definitely appreciate knowing. Thanks!
Hey all,
Try the following...
1st, backup up your device using SPB Backup or Sprite.
Next, do a hard reset.
After your device reboots from the initial setup, try using your wifi to connect to the internet.
Now try IE...
Does IE work? If so.... it's just a settings issue in your Connections settings.
Restore your device using the backup created in step 1 if you want to get back to where you started or just setup your Hermes again from scratch. I know it's a pain in the butt but it does solve the issue
Good luck
No need to Hard Reset. I can connect fine with wifi...just not through media net for some reason...No settings where changes, it just quit one day. Since then I have tried all sorts of different connection settings. I can get my email without any problems, but can't connect to any websites under PIE.
Okay, it definitely has something to do with using the disable cingular proxy and PIE. I have hardbooted my hermes, reloaded the ROM, and everything worked great over medianet. Then I just tried the disable and restore cingular proxy, and the issue just came right back!!! Man, if anybody know whether there's an issue with those two programs, please let me know!!
Hey guys, i have flashed to a few ROMs in the past and my phone would always give me the trouble of no data connection. My tmobile wing is hard spl and running currently on papa's black diamond. whenever i tried to go to the comm manager to activate the data connection, it just wont turn on while other buttons i have no problem turning on such as wlan and bluetooth.
i've also tried launching internet but it just says there's no data connection and ask me to go to settings. i still can make calls but just completely no data connections. i have also soft resetted it several time and no luck. =/
help would be great!
ps. i've looked up several other threads with the same problem, however, theres really nothing under connections except add new so it didnt help much.

I think you have to use the Network Wizard. If it is not in that rom, can install it using the cab, it's should be around this forum.
thanks live! but i'm not sure which network wizard cab file works and which doesnt.. so a friend helped me set it up manually. thanks though!!

What, have you heard that question before?
Ryan
yes my fone is having the same problem and now i cant flash to a new rom
i flashed for the first time yesterday, and had the same problem. just call tmobile and tell them somehow your data connection information has deleted, and they will run u through what to put in the fields. and don't forget to go to the network wizard, to make sure its on the right network.
Same problem except it WAS working (my gprs/edge) until I added my first wlan entry.. of my apartment's wifi which works. But after I was done using it i turned the wlan off from comm manager and expected to see the big E for edge and instead just see the two arrows with the little x under it. I can no longer connect to gprs/edge. If i open the internet explorer to view a page, it flashes a "G" with the arrows like it's trying to connect forever. At that point it will not even let me make or receive calls until I reboot the ppc. Network wizard won't fix it as I've already tried, twice... no change. My data connection for T-mobile is set up already under "connections tab" but it just doesn't work. My best guess is something has gone wrong in the registry... but as much as I've searched for this kind of problem I find nothing... just stuff how to fix wlan problems. btw, i'm on tmobile. Oh, it won't even activesync if my wlan is off now... I have to enable the wlan and let it connect to my home network... and THEN it will go through activesync without error. This is nuts, I already hard resetted once because of this and now it's the same story. Maybe it's just a prob with the opentouch 6.5 nofrills version that's just basic and let's the users add their own apps.
Creating a new topic, because the other one is tagged as solved, but it doesnt solve my problem however.
So my wifi is not working, it's connecting to any wifi hotspot but not sending data thru that, which ends in failing loading any pages on IE, cannot download any apps from market and so on...
Anyway this is what I tried so far:
1. Flashed to stock rogers (also tried different Tango roms)
2. Did hard reset procedure via hardware keys (Format all Yes)
3. Did hard reset procedure via About menu
4. Did hard reset procedure via Samsung Diagnosis code sequence
5. Logged to my wifi network, everything looks fine at this point.
6. Opened IE and entered google.com:
"We're having trouble connecting to this webpage" (sometimes no error message but white page with scrolling bars appearing on touch)
7. Tried to access my wifi router via IP address (192.168.1.1) - the same results like above
8. Tried to ping my Samsung Fous IP (192.168.1.18) from my PC with success
9. Disabled wifi network security on home wifi router, the Focus still not working
Additionaly tried a method that fix issues with wifi after using latest wp7 tools, but it didnt help at all.
When using my providers APN there is no problem with opening pages on IE etc., but it's not Wifi.... Internet is also working if I have USB cable plugged in, but again it's not wifi.
Cannot use warranty, the phone is from the USA and I'm in Europe... without any warranty service.
What else I can do, maybe there are some diagnosis codes that can actually help with real diagnosis on what happened with wifi on my phone?
Hello again (from the other thread). For completeness, add the following:
- current OS version
- did/not use WindowBreak
- when did the problem start (if you can identify an event and OS version/revision) - or you noticed
There might be a test for wireless in the "diagnosis codes"... Good luck!
After you use the diagnosis fix, it might take some time, mine didn't work immediately but after some time, it detected my home network. But it seems you are able to connect but internet does not work, this is certainly issue with router/DNS settings in your phone, because I have faced these problems in iPhone, it might wrongly mapped to unreachable ip, but never faced this issue in Windows Phone, you might try changing the default gateway/dns settings, you should also reset your modem/router, and try basic setup before WPA/WPA2 setup

Hi there
Currently using 7.10.8773.98, (MAGLDR 2.0) but tried different versions, even vanilla pre-mango ones, they didnt work well with wifi on my phone either. I checked it at friends home wifi, which is totaly different network and routers.
I never used WindowBreak, never had to because my phone was already unlocked long time ago with ChevronWP7 application.
Noticed the problem about 2 weeks ago, but I didnt use wifi too much, so it could started much earlier. Last installed application was WP7 Tools 0.8 alpha, and all I did back then was using some built-in tweaks (3G?) if there is any, cant remember to be honest but for sure I wasnt editing registry or anything like that, I just play some games from time to time, cant event tell why I installed it, maybe because I noticed there is a new version. I cant tell because I never paid attention to it especially with rare wifi usage at a time.
I have isolated the problem I guess, and it's not the phone's fault. Something wrong with the main access point (Mikrotik) at my place. This is weird because everything is working just not on Samsung Focus. I digged thru many options and couldnt find anything that blocked or stuff like that. Well took it to totaly different place and another wifi network, and guess what - it's connecting to wifi with data flow...
Anyway consider this topic as solved.
