First 1,gps needs around 10 mins in clear sky to lock my position , with gps fix(from the market) it takes 5-20 seconds.
Second and most important, all the people that i talk with cant hear my voice clear,i hear them clear tho, there is a really low pitch sound in the background when noone talking even on the road with full bars,i tryed 2g and 3g networks, i even tryed calling my phone from someone else phone and i couldnt hear his voice clear, when i used the headphones my callers heard my voice crystal clear.
I am thinking of taking my phone for replacement in the next 3 houers so i really apriceate any fast feedback especially for the second problem.
GPS fix is usually very quick on my X5 with data connection on, usually under 30 sec.
I've had one or two instances where a geocaching app wouldn't get a fix in 5 or 10 min. A reboot solved that every time.
As for the sound problem: sounds like your microphone is defect. No such problem on my phone...
1. You need to enable gps xtra for faster lock, in the same menu where you enable gps.
2. Some say that B160 rom creatly improves call quality, id try that from. Look from the dev section.
so gps is normal but microphone defective?
anyway,i got it back at the shop for a replacement i ll have a new in 4-5 days ,but im a bit woried if it will be defective again as there are some known problems like gps, wifi, light bleeding, burned pixels, flash player random reboots and i think i ve got 60-70% chance of geting a working one
I have a similar problem...
When people call me they tell me that my voice is very low. This changes when i hold the phone in front of my face, then it becomes better. But it is only good when I switch to the loudspeaker mode. Then you hear my voice clearly. Is it possible that this phone has a certain voice activation level and that this is set too critical?
And if it is so, can I set this threshold value anywhere?
edit: And can I edit the volume of the microphone itself too?
I find that if I have the phone tucked between my ear and shoulder (like you do when you are using both hands for something but still want to talk on the phone), noone can hear me at all.
But if using it "normally" (ie: by holding it to my ear with my hand) it works fine.
Does this device have a noise cancelling mic that is affecting things when the entire back panel is covered or something?
i have the same mic problem... i sent it for replacement...

True about GPS, just need to enable the option sanpsa said.
Mic, never had a problem so far.. touch wood.
Notwithstanding the fact that flipmodegr's microphone was obviously faulty, something to consider when others say they're having difficulty hearing you is the noise-cancellation microphone.
I suspect that those who're having problems might be covering or scraping the second microphone hole, or have a cover of some sort over it.
I haven't encountered the problem at all, but I'd be interested in knowing if those of you who have (outbound) audio problems are using any sort of cover on the 'phone while you're actually using it.

I'm pretty sure it's not a noise cancelling mic. It's just a directional mic for use when recording video.

I unfortunately don't have the option for xtra GPS - I only see Use GPS Satellites, and beneath that is GPS Source (which gives me only one option - Use internal GPS)
I am on Gingerbread - CyanogenMod 7.2.0.
Can you or someone else suggest a way to get around this problem? I am trying geocaching and the lack of GPS fix is really frustrating!
for me the GPS fast fix was only solved with replacing the gps.conf file, with this one

Well sounds like it might be hardware. If you've done a few hard resets and tested before installing any software and the problem is still there sometimes, then I'd say it's hardware.
The m/board on the Hermes is not one that you can really work on with ordinary soldering tools. A repair shop could check by using a heat gun to check the contacts on the Mic. If that fails then it's likely either the mic coil or a problem with the contacts at or coming from the USB connector.
Mike
I say something more. Now i hear myself on voice note but really quiet like 1/10 normal volume.

Yes, but even with an open circuit / damaged coil, cracked connection, you can sometimes have sufficient leakage current to get a faint response from things like microphones and speakers. I still think it's probably hardware - but thoroughly check all the software possibilities eg clean install, stock ROM etc.
Hm i open hermes but im noob in that stuff so everythink look fine for me with microphone. I clean that think to protecting microfone. The problem of couse dont disappear. But.. its look like always when I plug in usb to spv, microphone start working fine.. Not always but moust of time it is solution.. If it is a hardware what i should to recommand to replace in service? Microphone?
ignore me, re-read what you put and decided i was a nab
There is the chance to put (or try at least) an improvement in sound mic? Sometimes people said to me that they are listening me bad, others too down... Anyways, I'm using 2g connection only (in order to improve sound quality), even so, if I speak "with my normal voice" almost all people have a bit difficult to ear me!
I saw "hwVolumeFactor.cfg" , but there's no line to mic volume....
At least 2 other people have the same problem:

The hwvolumnfactor certainly cannot modify the internal mic and earpiece levels. It's to be done at the application framework stack or even the core library stack.

I wouldn't say it's a defective unit, because that would mean more than 30% of the whole sold units of U8800 were defective and a company big as Huawei wouldn't do it. Would only create mass amount of angry people and paybacks. So I am guessing some setting is bad.
Hi
I not think that this unit are defective.
For me the microphone position isn´t ideal, so is necessary boost the mic volume,
expecially for people with deep voice.
I hope that in future this become possible.

I Think this is the problem, i have a deep voice too... although using 2g only helps a lot, there's no a excellent quality and every time I reboot the phone i have to configure 2g again!
I've posted this problem before, in another post. Just posting here too, simply to join the club. Same mic issue for me. Others cannot hear me well while I can here them crystal clear.
P.S. I replaced my first X5 device within 4 days from purchasing it and apparently the problem exists in my current (2nd) device too. I didn't replace the 2nd one because the mic issue appeared after "root". That's weird...
P.S. 2 I really love this phone. It's a high end device in an extremely affordable price and I DO NOT WANT to replace the specific model whatsoever. However, this has been a very frustrating thing and still no one has come up with a solution!
same problem here. have to speak really loud to be understood... hopefully someone is able to fix it. otherwise a great phone!
I also have the low mic volume problem. It's very frustrating. Not everyone seems to be complaining it seems so I'm wondering if it's possible that there was a bad batch of these phones?
Can anyone confirm that their mic levels are normal - i.e. the person you are calling can normally hear you loud and clear? That would be useful to know.
The mic itself should not be problem.
Since I have bad reception in home, I generally prefer talking to people with viber, skype and such. I do not have any mic. issues with such programs.
However people really have hard times to hear me if I am talking on GSM -or make me have hard times because of shouting-
Good tip, hopefully maybe some dev could look into it, with the idea to solve this problem... In small forums that i use, other peoples complain too about this strange behavior. I think the problem are related to the secondary mic that are erasing outside sounds, but it is very responsive and maybe it erases more than the outside sounds, it erases a little of our voice... The normal think is people telling me something like that: "Are you talking from the bottom?" or "Are you talking from the Chilean Mine?" xD
I agree. Once I changed the value of hw.secondary_mic=0 to hw.secondary_mic=1 in /system/build.prop. I noticed that people on the phone could hardly hear me and I heard weird noise from the earpiece. Then I switch the value back to 0, it works fine now.
You guys may need to check this value in your phone's current setting.

Mine was at 0 already. Changed the values to 1,2 just in case, but the problem remains. Changed back to 0 again.
Same here I was thinking about trying the hw_secondary_mic thing, but you say it's to no avail... It's a very nice phone, but what's the use if people can't hear me. I've sent a message to Huawei and I'll call local warranty service if this problem is salvageable for this line of phones. If not, the return path is the way ...
Hello,
as I mentioned in another Thread I have the same problems you have. There have to be some settings wrong in the comparison of the signals of the two microphones.
Also I played with "hw.secondary_mic=X" and it didn't help me. I tried 0 and 1. It changed, but 1 was worse than 0, without changing something else.
Maybe one of the more experienced Dev's can have a look at this problem, at least where we can find the source for comparison or the adequate settings. Thanks in advance
But for now I have a working workaround
I use the void#draco rom with the kernel from #eridanus (should also work with other roms)
In "system\build.prop" are the settings
hw.secondary_mic=1
...
ro.config.hw_optb=
hw.secondary_mic=1
...
ro.config.dualmic=true
important. Maybe someone can explain me what the second and third entry exactly do?
And now comes the trick. You have to cover your secondary mic on the back (next to the 5.0 Megapixels print). Either with your finger (cumbersome) or with 2 layers of adhesive tape or something like that.
I've tested this yesterday evening and it worked quite fine for me. Those were my best gsm-calls (exept those with the cable-headset).
Maybe it also works with other settings in build.prob, those above worked good for me and I didn' test all the 16 combinations (3 settings + dumb microphone).
So, please try it and share your experience
Edit: Just tried it with latest oxygen. Stock experience was as annoying as with stock void, but after changing values to those above (you have to write the last two of them by your own) and making the microphone dumb the call quality got much better. Try it for yourself
I thought about covering the secondary mic too, but it's a bit non-classy Hmm. From instincts, setting ro.config.dualmic=false should disable the secondary. Have you tried it? I'm gonna try it when I have the time...
Also I feel that there should be some settings regarding those microphones but, I'm not sure if they can be easily found without spending some time with the OS code. Having heard that Huawei has released the code as open source (?) I hope they have comments there
I tried ro.config.dualmic=0 a few minutes ago, and with the uncovered microphone i was hardly understood. With the covered microphone everything was good.
Seems that the phone is unimpressed by this setting...or it is because I use Oxygen at the moment. There wasn't such a setting in build.prop, I wrote it there by myself.
Now I tried hw.secondary_mic=0 without the other settings (commented out)
and with an uncovered mic you are hardly to hear as like as the other settings and with the covered mic it's acceptable. But I think it's a bit worse than the settings I mentioned above with everything enabled.
Somehow the phone doesn't react on these settings as we want it to do.
So I will set the three values to 1 and use my tiny piece of adhesive tape until a better solution is available. As I said this is a workaround, not a fix.
Hi!
A few weeks ago my Nexus 4 fell down and the front display cracked right under the camera.
At first there was no problem and the crack wasnt disturbing. But since last week my microphone doesnt work properly anymore.
It doesnt work in several apps (Skype, Teamspeak, Google Voice Search) and also not when Im trying to make a phone call.
I can only take a phone call when Im turning the call into the "speaker mode". So then the caller hears me but everyone around me hears my call..
The support says that it isnt a warranty case because I let it fall down. But I cant imagine that the microphone is defect 1 month after it fell down.
Also I think that the german support engineers are not the best educated ones because they have so many devices to analyse.
Do you have any ideas?

The mic probably got misplaced from the pins when you dropped your phone. You have to open the phone and place it in the right place

The mic is broken so you can't talk. Nexus 4 has 2 microphones and maybe the 2nd one works on speaker mode
As denpei above said here, the other mic will probably function when you're in speaker mode.
In that case your phone has to filter out the voice of the one who's calling you from the speaker, since its a noise cancellation mic.
There's no defect. You dropped your phone and you broke your screen and the mic. Duh, put two and two together. :good:

Yeah in Speaker mode i can call normally like i said above.
Is there a tutorial how to replace the microphone? I only find some teardown videos
EDIT
Ok i found a video where it is shown where the main mic is. And i found a way to replace it if its really broken.
Thanks
Hello everyone, time to report another issue (or not ?) I am having with my N4, and I need your help to see if it requires a return.
The microphone on my phone seems to give a ton of feedback when I am not in speaker mode. Whether I am using an earphone, or speaking directly with the phone on my ear.. tapping the microphone or breathing into it carries over pretty strongly into the earpiece. Some of my friends have said that I am sometimes pretty inaudible, I am guessing that's the microphone acting up.
Now I have read in some threads that the N4 microphone has a pretty high gain which often causes a distortion.. but I dont think this feedback is caused by that. Please correct me if I am wrong. Also, I have seen a few posts (not many) by people reporting this feedback.. but I am yet to come across anyone complaining about this when not using a earphone. Probably not many people start tapping their microphone while speaking on the phone.
Can anyone please tell me if you have faced this issue? If you haven't noticed.. can you please do me a favor and try it out ? Get on a call and check for microphone feedback by
a) using a earphone (not a hands-free headset)
and
2) speaking without a earphone with the phone on your ear.
I bought this in India with 1 year LG warranty.. and LG does not have the replacement policy which Play store gives. My seller has a 30 day replacement policy, and if I have to get advantage of that.. I need to call this in before 29th.
I am on stock ROM, Franco kernel r156 nightly. Build 513k, rev 11. Build Number JDQ39E.

Hi, Well I had an issue after rooting and installing all my apps , So I did a factory install rooted and started installing the app 1 by 1 and testing.
For me the issue was that if I was on a call and I pressed the speaker button my mic would stop working , even if i switched back , after extensive testing I found that ever time that happend the only was to make my mic work again would be task killer or manually clearing and restarting the phone app. I know it sounds strange but for those of you who have the same problem, try it you will see that you dont even need to reboot in order for the mic to start working again, But why the dailer?
Guys, since my 6p, almost every call I make or receive, the person on the other end tells me that they are hearing what they said back. It's like an echo of what they said. I head them perfect and no issues on my end.
Anyone else having this issue?
And to add, I'm trying calls with and without case and it doesn't make a difference. Sometimes the echo for the person on the other end goes away after few minutes but most of the time it stays for the entire conversation. I also just today tried whatsapp call but same issue. Very frustrating as everything else on the phone is perfect.
I had this yesterday on WhatsApp
Any ideas? I sure can't be the only one out there with this issue.
It's a typical Google mic cancellation issue like the nexus 5 had. It will never be fixed.

Doesn't look so typical as Internet/forum search brings nothing being reported regarding this on Nexus 6p. Don't care what's on Nexus 5.
The problem is specific to callers on the other end of the phone hearing themselves back when they speak.
I have had the same issues. To fix I lower my volume all the way down then they say it's fine. The other option is to use speakerphone. I did read somewhere people are using their finger to cover the mic hole on the back. I'll try that today.

Here is the best temporary fix. Use a headset with a built in mic.
Also, calls over internet are more likely to get echo. Try a regular phone call, no Google voice and such either, just a regular sim number based call.

Covering the mic hole did help but if my volume was to high it would still do it. It's like the sound vibrations are getting picked up through the phone. Anyways I am rooted and romed. I may look into turning noise cancellation off.
I'm personally having this issue only when the back casing are attached to the phone or when i accidentally cover the back mic with my finger
Posting an update. It seems doing either one of the below fixes the echo callers on the other end are hearing:
1. Cover the mic at the back top of the phone during the call
2. Or Lower the volume to like half or three quarters of the way
I prefer option 2 and all is fine now.

Long term have you had issues in busy places like airports, bars/restaurants? Do people complain of too much noise around you with noise cancelling turned off?
the issue is still persist even after the June OTA. is there any way we can contact Google or Huawei to fix this issue permanently ?
I really love the phone but this issue is frustrating as it is a basic need in any phone. phone calls must be ok. how it can be fixed without root ?
It might be due to phones calls over the internet such as advanced calling on Verizon...I had this issue too a while back but I read somewhere this could be the issue do I turned off of advanced calling(calling over the internet so while I'm on a call I can use the internet over 4g). This is quite annoying since I sometimes do need to use internet while I'm on a call but I think the echo problem is worse.
So far no one has complained about an echo since I turned off advanced calling when before purplpeople would complain or stop talking about every call. Hope this helps
