I am from Greece having a Vodafone account and recently bought HTC Trophy 7. Overall great device! However, me and 3 other colleagues too, we experience something weird. When we call someone from another operator in Greece, in particular COSMOTE, we experience a very different, more loud, annoying ring back tone overlapping the usual one. Is this even possible? Why is this noticeable only between parties from these two mobile operators?
So I am asking just out of curiosity. Has anyone noticed something similar in their HTC, WP7, or else?
HTC Trophy from Vodafone Portugal and I have 2 different operators I usual make calls to, and haven't met any issues like the one you mention.
Have you spoken to Vodafone Greece about that ?

I did, but I don't know if I made it clear over the phone. I don't think they registered it at all. I am not even sure, how is this technically possible, in order it to explain it to them. I just know that 4 people I know (roaming or not), calling a Cosmote party noticed this annoying ring-back tone. It is just a weird quirk.

I'd hit a Vodafone center with some of the other people to whom it also happens and show them on the spot what's going on... but there is always the risk they'll dismiss it as being a Cosmote issue and not theirs.

As far as I understand it, when it comes to ringback tones it is always a problem by the provider and not the phone model or anything.
Correct me if I am mistaken.

Hi, I'm new to the whole phone edition thing but i've had my PPCs before.
At the moment I only have one major irritation.
When I recieve calls they are half the time "unknown" that is, I see no caller ID even though i should. When I do get caller IDs they are often wrong. My SIM card is from Denmark but I'm roaming in Belgium. My home number here starts with 0032 2 73 .... but instead my s100 thinks it starts with 0045 2 73... which is the country code for Denmark. Also, I recieved a call from Ireland which normally is +33, but instead it said the number was +40 33. It put the country code for England first. I don't know if its the people i'm roaming under here (i've tried switching between the different operators but it doesn't seem to make a difference).
Got any ideas? Thanks alot.
Also, I've had trouble finding the best way to have alarms. I find it's a problem that the sound level of the alarm depends on what your sound level of the s100 is. So if i forget to put the sound up on it before I go to bed the alarm in the morning might be really low. Got any ideas for that too?
Thanks alot!
I have a Trinity and my phone provider is vodafone Germany. I tried everything to get a Video call to work but it just doesn't work. I have the 3g symbol on the display all the time and I live in Cologne which has UMTS everywhere. But if I call a number (my wifes number same provider and standing next to me so she has UMTS too) it seems as it should be ringing at the other end but it doesn't even ring there ...
Did anyone manage to make a video call with the trinity?
I HAVE THE SAME problem... I was thinking was signal problem.... but....
btw I can't send and receive mms too )))
Video Call and MMS works on mine =)
Works here...

I couldnt send mms too. so i completely resetted (hard reset) and followed the vodafone mms instructions. Now it works. But still no video call.
Still no video calls on german vodafone?
so no one has managed to make a video call with the trinity on vodafone germany?
Today I made my first video call with T-Mobile Netherlands, so it does work.
still no video calls
I tried with my trinity with several vodafone germany cards and it does not work. It seems my device is defective.
Tried it last week with a video-call to my brother (he using a SE K800i on Orange), and it seems to work great Had to change the dial-pad back to the default HTC one though, cause the M$ one doesn't show the buttons to initiate a video-call
i have made a videocall with t-mobile nl, but the other person did not see me.. i could see him on my screen., and myself in the lower corner. And no, we were not filming eachother. ;-)
what about that ? we both were on umts network, standing next to eachother.
is it something on my phone i forgot to turn on ?
i have a orange spv m700, (yes officially unlocked, thnx to the nice man in the orange shop!)
he has a nokia N73
It seems the Vodafone network in germany does not "see" that my trinity is on UMTS. If I try to use Vodafone TV it says that I am currently not on UMTS which I am.... very strange... any help is much appreciated
I am having the same problem with Telsra in Australia. I have the 3G symbol, the service says it is on UMTS Telstra, can browse the net with HSDPA, everything else seems fine.
Maybe a lame question, but you have the video call service enabled by your operator/contract? Maybe you require some settings on the phone to be recognized as video call enabled/ to operate on the network?
MMS
I can not send MMS too. It drives me really crazy!!!
I have a dutch KPN provider

Since no one has answered this question yet: Yes, it works, albeit not to my satisfaction.
I'm using a Vodafone compact GPS (which should be identical to the HTC 3600=Trinity) on Vodafone Germany on the other (dark) side of the Rhine with good UMTS coverage (at least two bars). When phoning to, say, a Samsung UMTS mobile phone, I receive good picture quality and reasonable sound quality. However, the other side fails to receive decent sound; what is arriving there is regularly sort of "chopped" and hardly understandable. I'm not sure about the reason for this, but I suspect that it is my "Trinity" that is misbehaving (too slow? inadequate configuration settings?), as the Samsung's video arrives nicely and has good quality. It could also be the other way, of course, or it could be a Vodafone network problem.
Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with the video call quality on the Trinity?
PS: Hello to everybody, I'm new to this forum, and I apologise for any misbehaviour in advance as it is not intended , and yes, I have used the "search" option .

A hard reset involves deleting all data, right? I'm not looking forward to configuring the ppc again, really. But I guess it's worth a try, as the AEG-principle hardly ever fails...

Hi Elfriede. Welcome to the forum. Case you are german (der Name klingt danach) try this forum too: http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/forumdisplay.php?f=174
I sold my P3600 which I had bought from amazon just for the not working video calls. I then bought a Vodafone compact GPS... guess what... the video calls didn't work too. The guys at vodafone (which I had phoned 10 times for this problem and which had told me it must be my p3600's fault) just forgot to switch UMTS on!!! Now it works (I lost a few 100 € just because of vodafone-no-competence-service...)
Hi, I bought a g1 from us, unlocked it with official t-mobile unlockcode and now i running fine with it in romania on orange network.

It's not a bug. It's a function of MyFaves. If you don't like it then use a non USDM build of Android on your G1. This has been discussed ad nauseum. Please search.
Edit: Are we seriously going to have this exact same topic in the Dream forum until we're old and gray?
Yes, in the meanwhile i was reading about this MYFAV Feature. Great Feature, that cost many people a lot of money. I personaly think its amazing that not more people talk about and complain. Think about, you buy a phone in us, go holiday and pay alot if you dont know. or you buy a mobile from us, legal and also with legal unlock key and pay a lot for stupid sms.
So what i read about its the best to unlock the us iphone and install a Europe RC9 ... is that right?
greets
chris
yep, install RC9 (JesusFrekes version for example)
I have had my Rogers HTC dream for a while and it works great, I am unlocked using it on ATT network here in the US. I have no problems except recently I have noticed because some of my friends tell me that they cannot reach me.
My phone is on all the time and I can get calls most of the time however sometimes I do not receive the call, and the thing about this is that the phone doesnt tell me I even missed it.
Basically I have no idea anyone has called me except when my friend would let me know that they called me and I did not answer. they say that the phone rings for a long time and it does not go to voicemail, but I think that is a different issue as I have not set up my voicemail yet...
but the main problem is that I would get a call and I have no idea I even got that call. As the phone doesn't even notify me that I had someone calling me in the first place.
I have tried a few custom roms and changed to different ones in hopes that might resolve the problem. but it has not.
help thanks
AT&T 3G ?
I noticed your thread, and wondered if there were any other issues with using a EU version phone on US carriers ? I'm thinking of buying a EU phone (rogers, i believe) off ebay so I can enjoy the speedierness of 3g.
Is dropped incoming calls the only problem you've expereienced ?
How/where did you buy yours, and have you had any trouble with buying from overseas if you did ?
Thanks !
(sorry, i didn't really help at all)
only problem i experience is the missing calls... I got mine from someone on ebay who was in canada, I believe it is a rogers canada phone... could it be the rom??, I am currently running the HTC ADP 1.6 DRC83 ROM.
Hi
Just had my HD2 stolen this afternoon.
I will be on flight to Hong Kong tomorrow evening.
The phone was bought sim free in UK and not insured so can't claim for replacement.
Anyway, I just want to know:
1. I live in London and is there any shops that I can buy a new sim free one from tomorrow (Monday)?
2. If 1 is not possible and I bought one from Hong Kong, would it be an Asia HD2 version or there is just one version globally? If it is Asia HD2, does it have English language and can you still use programs like CHT Home Tab/Editor, BsB Tweaks it?
3. I use the phone to receive my emails. Is there any chance the login password could be retrieved by whoever stolen it?
4. Can whoever stolen my phone still receive my emails even I have barred the SIM card?
Thanks!
If you used Microsoft My Phone app on your HD2 you can use it to possibly locate your phone. Just go to myphone.microsoft.com and log in with your Windows Live or MSN account wich ever one hou used for yhe Microsoft My Phome app.
Ic you by another HD2 there in Hong Kong it will more than likely be the Asian model HD2 and I think it does have english as one of the languages. You would also be abale to use all the apps you mentioned in your post. Just be careful if you do purchase one there as it is a lot of clone/fake HD2 being sold there and on the internet from there. But wih you have had a real HD2 you know how it should look and all. The fake ones look different.
Who ever stole your phone shouldn't be abale to get your passwords a.d if you have barred tbe sim card they will not be abale to use your sim card to make calls and such. They will have to sim unlock it to even be able to put another sim card in it to use with another carrier.
just adding on to what T-Macgnolia mentioned above. if you have the original box of your hd2 then it would have the imei. you can call your network provider and have the phone blocked completely. though of course it doesn't guarantee that you'll get your phone back, but at least the jerk who took it can't use the phone. it'll be a media player and a gps but as far as the phone app, it'll be blocked. normally your network carrier will pass on your imei to other network providers for blocking (at least i assume this'll be what happens as it's what's done here in australia).
- as mentioned above, just make sure you buy a genuine hd2 and not the clone. if you happen to stumble across one with a front cam or 2 sim card capabilities, it's a clone.
- definitely your emails are safe once your sim card is blocked
cheers

Will try that. Hopefully Vodafone would do it even though it was not their branded HD2.
Just got off the phone with Vodafone - they said they couldn't do it.
Oh well, just have to be more careful in the future. This is the 1st time that I had a phone stolen since my Motorola MicroTAC II in the early 90's!
They can't do it because (I'm assuming) you didn't buy it from them. Ring o2 and they'll probably be able to block the IMEI and blacklist it. That's assuming you bought it from them too obviously.

just my 2 cents: sorry as i forgot to mention this bit
before i got my hd2 i was using a touch pro 2. it was stolen in my previous office (yeah the jerk works in the same place as i did). anyway, i called up my network provider (telstra) and they also said they couldn't lock my phone. however, i googled locking the imei and came up with yet another customer service line that was independent to telstra. so i reported my imei and it took a few seconds for the guy on the phone to say "ah, there it is." he then confirmed it was now locked.
played around with google and found this site:

not sure if this applies to you mate as you're in london while i'm in australia. but hope that helps.
cheers

Get one from a big reputable stores like Fortress, Broadway, Chung Yuan, etc. Make sure they have the QTS logo. Emphasis you want an English edition. The box should read "HTC HD2 T8585 (WWE)".
However, I don't think you would get international warranty.
I supposed you have already changed your passwords. Even then, he can still read the mails that are already downloaded.
HD2 in HK are using Asia/Europe bands:
3G: 900/2100
2G: 850/900/1800/1900
Should be the same as in UK.
Well, I went to lots of shops and finally found one that sold it - most other shops said the HD2 was unpopular and been discontinued for awhile. It was an Asian model and I asked if they could change it to English which they did. Had it for nearly 2 weeks now with no problems and all for £240 which was a great deal.
Incidentely I looked a copy version from China - put my SIM card in and it jammed...
