Hi
Just had my HD2 stolen this afternoon.
I will be on flight to Hong Kong tomorrow evening.
The phone was bought sim free in UK and not insured so can't claim for replacement.
Anyway, I just want to know:
1. I live in London and is there any shops that I can buy a new sim free one from tomorrow (Monday)?
2. If 1 is not possible and I bought one from Hong Kong, would it be an Asia HD2 version or there is just one version globally? If it is Asia HD2, does it have English language and can you still use programs like CHT Home Tab/Editor, BsB Tweaks it?
3. I use the phone to receive my emails. Is there any chance the login password could be retrieved by whoever stolen it?
4. Can whoever stolen my phone still receive my emails even I have barred the SIM card?
Thanks!
If you used Microsoft My Phone app on your HD2 you can use it to possibly locate your phone. Just go to myphone.microsoft.com and log in with your Windows Live or MSN account wich ever one hou used for yhe Microsoft My Phome app.
Ic you by another HD2 there in Hong Kong it will more than likely be the Asian model HD2 and I think it does have english as one of the languages. You would also be abale to use all the apps you mentioned in your post. Just be careful if you do purchase one there as it is a lot of clone/fake HD2 being sold there and on the internet from there. But wih you have had a real HD2 you know how it should look and all. The fake ones look different.
Who ever stole your phone shouldn't be abale to get your passwords a.d if you have barred tbe sim card they will not be abale to use your sim card to make calls and such. They will have to sim unlock it to even be able to put another sim card in it to use with another carrier.
just adding on to what T-Macgnolia mentioned above. if you have the original box of your hd2 then it would have the imei. you can call your network provider and have the phone blocked completely. though of course it doesn't guarantee that you'll get your phone back, but at least the jerk who took it can't use the phone. it'll be a media player and a gps but as far as the phone app, it'll be blocked. normally your network carrier will pass on your imei to other network providers for blocking (at least i assume this'll be what happens as it's what's done here in australia).
- as mentioned above, just make sure you buy a genuine hd2 and not the clone. if you happen to stumble across one with a front cam or 2 sim card capabilities, it's a clone.
- definitely your emails are safe once your sim card is blocked
cheers

Will try that. Hopefully Vodafone would do it even though it was not their branded HD2.
Just got off the phone with Vodafone - they said they couldn't do it.
Oh well, just have to be more careful in the future. This is the 1st time that I had a phone stolen since my Motorola MicroTAC II in the early 90's!
They can't do it because (I'm assuming) you didn't buy it from them. Ring o2 and they'll probably be able to block the IMEI and blacklist it. That's assuming you bought it from them too obviously.

just my 2 cents: sorry as i forgot to mention this bit
before i got my hd2 i was using a touch pro 2. it was stolen in my previous office (yeah the jerk works in the same place as i did). anyway, i called up my network provider (telstra) and they also said they couldn't lock my phone. however, i googled locking the imei and came up with yet another customer service line that was independent to telstra. so i reported my imei and it took a few seconds for the guy on the phone to say "ah, there it is." he then confirmed it was now locked.
played around with google and found this site:

not sure if this applies to you mate as you're in london while i'm in australia. but hope that helps.
cheers

Get one from a big reputable stores like Fortress, Broadway, Chung Yuan, etc. Make sure they have the QTS logo. Emphasis you want an English edition. The box should read "HTC HD2 T8585 (WWE)".
However, I don't think you would get international warranty.
I supposed you have already changed your passwords. Even then, he can still read the mails that are already downloaded.
HD2 in HK are using Asia/Europe bands:
3G: 900/2100
2G: 850/900/1800/1900
Should be the same as in UK.
Well, I went to lots of shops and finally found one that sold it - most other shops said the HD2 was unpopular and been discontinued for awhile. It was an Asian model and I asked if they could change it to English which they did. Had it for nearly 2 weeks now with no problems and all for £240 which was a great deal.
Incidentely I looked a copy version from China - put my SIM card in and it jammed...

Guys,
I am SSOO depressed.
I moved to Turkey for a few months and the the same SIM that I previously used which is local turkish displays NO SERVICE. Even the Orange sim that I have used with my exec in my country AND in this country in my last trip isn't working anymore. I also have my old PDA2K with me here that is working perfectly with all SIMs. It's just that my Exec doesn't work anymore, so it's 100% gotta be an hardware problem.
when I click to search for networks I get the 3 turkish networks. however when i select my sim network or any other for that matter, nothing works. it just gets NO SIGNAL.
I tried to hard reset the device in hope that some program may have causd the problem but that didn't work as well. Even bare setup leaves the phone with no signal.
I may be wrong here, but I think my theory makes sense. I think that the internal Antenna is disconnected or isn't functionning, hence why it succeed to read the very mute GSM providers list but is unable to transmit a signal strong enough to communicate with them.
My O2 exec was bought by a guy who sold it to me from the UK. O2 will never service this machine since i didn't purchase it from them as well as I already flashed my rom and running JJ rom ever since I own the machine which is back 5 months ago.
Needless to say if you peole are like me you will understand my feeling. I feel like an inpotent without the phone and do not like to purchase a cellular phone and go backwards in technology.
If someone can enlighten me on how I may try to fix the machine myself or otherwise someone can fix it for me that would be so great.
In hope for help,
Tommy
Man that sucks, I feel your situation. I would be upset w/o my Universal as well. Here's a link to the service manual:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Universal/UNniversalL_Service_Manual_CONFIDENTIAL.pdf
Maybe you could try disassembling it to check the attennas for contact? To get to the attennas doesn't seem that hard.

Did you register the IMEI with your Telco?

Your antenna should not be the problem as you can see the list of operatots on your Exec.
To be shure it is the hardware problem try to do this:
1. Remove SIM card
2. Try to make an emergency call (not sure how :? )
If you succeed in doing the emergency call - this appears to be a network barring problem that mentioned above in this thread.
thank you all for replying to my post !!! this is appreciated.
it seems the mistery was solved, when i talked with a turkish friend before reading your replies. Well the mistry wasn't solved, but i know what it is.
STRANGE country. The Turkish Telecom blocks some machines (IMEI) that you bring from overseas !!!
It's like a gestapo. Truely amazing unbelievable thing.
You see, the Turkish government instructs to block all IMEI that were not purchased in Turkey and use a Turkish sim card. The result is that if you bring you own mobile phone from anywhere in the world into Turkey and try to insert a Turkish sim card into it, the turkish goverment will block your machine! you can't even use your origin country SIM anymore after they do that!!
They Lock the IMEI so that you cannot use it with any cellular provider! Why? Because they assume you're Turkish and brought a phone without paying taxes in turkey. Would you ****in believe it?
I also carry a PDA2K and this one still works with a Turkish SIM, but I guess it may be blocked as well soon. People I talked with told me they have heard of this rule but have never seen anyone get hurt from it by getting his phone blocked.
So if you're a turist and thinks about using a Turkish prepaid SIM or any kind of SIM, think twice. within days, weeks or months, your phone will be useless here. My Turkish SIM card worked fine last visit a month ago, but it doesn't anymore.
Now if I would ask how I could change the IMEI that would be considered illegal because many want to do so because they are thieves, but legitimate people who got their phone blocked by a obscene Turkish laws has nothing they could do about it, even if they aren't Turkisj.
My friends talked with the Turkcell for 30 minutes and there was nothing they could do, they said it's a state issue and that only within a week time it will be in their hands so i would be able to go to their service center and show my passport. What a country!
I purchased an HD2 from eBay, it was locked to T-mobile. I immediately purchased an unlock code, installing my old iPhone sim (making O2 aware of what I was doing) and punching in the unlock code. All appeared well, however it won't connect to the telephone network. I'm getting the GSM icon and I can strangley check emails when out and about sometimes. But I can't make nor receive calls.
I've taken the T-mobile ROM off and replaced it via HSPL with ...
RUU_Le2_UK_1.43.206.4_Radio_Signed_15.26.50.07U_2.04.50.22_2_Ship
Which is the standard O2 ROM. It throws up the following error when searching for networks and trying to connect to O2.
"cannot register on selected network, choose another network".
I've tried everything and I'm just about losing it, smashing the phone passed my mind at one point.
I've tried my sim in another O2 HD2 and it worked fine, on all account. His O2 sim didn't work in my phone, which is annoying. So the issue is with the handset.
Before I go insane, I don't suppose someone knows a very easy solution to this issue?
Regards,
Sii
Info....
OS Version - 5.2.21864 (21864.5.0.81)
Manilla Version - 2.5.192.02525.0
ROM Version - 1.43.206.4 (70315) WWE
Radio Version - 2.04.50.22_2
Protocol 15.26.50.07U
It's sat next to me on the desk with an exclamation mark on the network icon but the mobile web icon is connected.
Very srtange.
automatic network selection brings back a failure to connect, however manual selection brings back all UK providers, selecting O2. I get "cannot register".
I wonder if it's something to do with O2 barring the handset? Brand new before I opened it. Also it was locked to T-mobile.
There must be a very simple explanation for this I hope.
Sounds like you may have to contact T-mobile for an unlock code.

I've paid this company ....
[unlockdata dot co dot uk for a code and have used it, however that does appear to be the issue from what I can see.
They sent me a code, when placing my O2 sim in the phone asked for it, I entered it and all appeared well. However it must not be the case deep down in the phone somewhere.....
are you sure it hasnt been blocked by t-mobile? Could well be an insurance scam: data usually works on blocked phones whereas GSM doesn't.
Well I've took my O2 sim card out and stuck my T-mobile one back in and the T-mobile one works and the O2 one doesn't, but I can't make calls.
Did some diggging that this ....
I've not been able to use the phone due to it actually being barred from service. Please use the below link ..
www . checkmend . com / uk / verify
With the certificate ID of - CM4510856-D4848
Looks like it's not stolen or lost, but just barred. I wonder why.
Is there any way I can get this removed?
Its blocked then: blocked and barred are the same thing. More than likely the seller has sold the device then immediately reported it lost/stolen to claim a new one and thus not only have a new phone buy also a nice slice of cash in their back pocket.
There is no way that the phone will be barred without having been reported as either lost or stolen and there is also no way of having it unblocked unless you are the original owner, haven't made an insurance claim, and ring T-mobile with the blocking password provided when the loss was first reported to the police.
Personally I recommend you lodge a claim with PayPal immediately as any other line of enquiry will only serve to delay the inevitable: you will not get the phone unblocked.
Best of luck sorting it out.
Complaint logged with Paypal, just have to wait and see what comes of it. Included the link to the file saying it's barred, let's see what the seller has to say about that.
c*ck omlette that he is
Thanks so much for the info and shoulder to cry on, heh heh.
All the best, Sii
Good luck with it mate, hope you get it sorted quickly.
Well I spoke to T-mobile and they said "no idea why we blocked it, it's not listed as stolen or anything, there you go, unbarred".
I can make calls on my T-mobile sim, however it still REFUSES! to connect to O2, even though I've put in the unlock code supplied by the company listed above.
Spoke to O2 customer support and T-mobile, no bars on the phone, no issues are barring by either provider. Just refuses to connect to O2.
Any ideas?
If not, anyone want to buy a £360 2 day old HD2?

I've had 3 sims from O2 already this week, they've been really cool about it.
I've also had to ROMS on, the original t-mobile one, and the latest HTC ROM too.
I can't for the life of me figure out what the problem is, it's very annoying.
I may just put it up for sale on the bay of E, it works perfectly on T-mobile.
I'll try some other flashes this evening and see if that fixes it, however I don't think it will. FUnny thing is that it won't connect to the network but the large [G] connects, which does make me believe it's something radio based.
Been told to check the following ....
Yes in the sim card options type mepd
Network active - locked
Network disabled / inactive - unlocked
ANy ideas how?
Bit of an obivous thing really, but did you have to go through connection setup when you put the O2 SIM in?

Yes, and it won't connect/register/logon/access the O2 network.
This is the confusing thing, it can see the network but won't register with it
im not sure exactly which ROMS you have tried so i dont know whether they would have included a radio update... to be sure flash the radio ONLY!

Can anyone on O2 UK please list the Radio flash they're using and working with?
I did list the ROM I'm currently using in my first post.
I tried this with the originally installed T-mobile ROM (unknown details, apologies) the latest HTC ROMs (United Kingdom 1.48.405.2 and WWE:1.66.405.2) direct from their UK site and then the O2 listed in my first post.
I'll give everything another go tonight, seriously running out of steam on this topic though

please can anybody help me. i bought one htc elf in dubai and i went then to turkey am trying to make it work in turkey but in vain. it is always searching for network and not finding anything.
have you tried flashing a different radio? Or, have you go into phone settings and tried to select a network manually?
i couldn't upgrade my radio version it is always arriving 79%, stopping and giving error.
Whats the error, make sure to post as much information as possible, people wold be able to help better then.
Have you checked the error codes in the ROM section?
Stu
no actually am sorry but i did not know about that section before. so it is error 270.
thanks actually i found that error solution but nothing changed still my phone is searching for network in vain. even am trying to find a network manually it is writing cannot read settings from the network try viewing settings later or disconnect data connection and try again.
where did you buy the phone from in dubai? Was it from a market etc or a store? It could be blacklisted in turkey? Just thinking that could be a possibility.
i bought from jumbo electronics in dubai it is a distributer of consumer electronics. so what can we do if it is blacklisted.
i doubt it would be blacklisted if from a shop. If it is blacklisted, theres pretty much nothing you can do about it, apart from change the imei - which may well be illegal, i know it is here in the UK.
mm is there any way to change the imei like software.
for that, i would not help. you can however search forums to see if you can find anything for it.
google checkmend as well, that tells if the phone is blacklisted etc, but maybe only for us and uk, not sure. costs $2.99 USD though.
actually there is something strange i have one sim card from UAE, when i use it the signal of network is coming and when i put any sim in Turkey no signal is coming. do you think it is blacklisted?
the turkey sim may not be registered? I wouldn't be able to say if it is blacklisted - i'm still learning these phones too
About IMEI
If you bring a cell phone from out of Turkey you need to register it in cell shop called like "Turkcell Extra".
You need your phone and your passport. The personal'll look at the dates in your passport and check the invoice date in shop after he/she will register your phone to Turkey Network. after a copule of days you can use it complately...
to my knowledge it may be because of the the frequency of the signal u r receiving in ur country. elf and elfin are triband phones.. they dont have a frequency range of 850 Mhz .. may be ur provider is giving the signal in that frequency.. try with gsm sim of other service provider may be it will help u...
thanks alot but i think my phone now is blacklisted cause as i remember i came to turkey before long time and it was working but now it is not anymore even i tried different sim cards like vodafone and turkcell but in vain. i have other phone am using now and i registered it on my passport it is working but i want to use my elf actually i dont wanna use other phone cause i love that phone that is all.
first unlock your device, then install the newest radio.
Probably a silly question but I have the following problem:
I have 3 cards (Orange and 2 x T-Mobile). When I put either T-Mobile SIM in my phone, it requests a SIM network unlock PIN. I have the option of entering this in or clicking a dismiss button which will take me pass this screen but doesn't register onto the GSM network. This doesn't happen on my Orange SIM as this registers straight away onto the GSM network.
All 3 SIM cards do not request a PIN when I use them with two other phones that I have (HTC Hero and HTC TyTn 2).
On the SGS I have tried the pins 0000, 12345 and 1234 which are default PINs that I recall. I've checked the manual for the SGS and the literature that came with my T-Mobile SIM card and neither give any hints about a default PIN or about a SIM network unlock PIN.
I'm not sure if the PIN request is coming from the phone or the SIM card. I'm guessing it's coming from the phone but I don't know why it doesn't request this when I use my Orange SIM card.
I purchased the phone SIM free. The Orange SIM is a PAYG and the two T-Mobile SIMs are pay monthly contracts. I know all 3 SIMs work without PINs in my other phone.
Can anyone help? I'm assuming I'm missing something really simple but can't figure out what. I've already tried a dozen google searches with no luck. Please please help. I feel I'm being deprived of my 2 hour old SGS phone
I've now taken a video of the boot up sequence to show you what it looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3D-RvvCK2bM
Can anyone confirm or refute whether this is happening on their SGS too? It seems like it's a Security Code on the handset but I can't find any setting for such a code.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I purchases it from handtec. I don't think it is Sim free for the following reasons:
1. It was listed as Sim free
2. The box it came in also seems to indicate it is Sim free
3. There is no carrier logo on the phone or anything it came with
4. Seems to work with my Orange Sim card (which implies the phone came from orange if it was Sim free and this phone hasn't been released on Orange).
I'm guessing by the single thread reply that no one else has come into this issue before? And it's probably not just a simple default security code?
I don't know if this will help, but when I was asked for a sim code on a new Nokia phone, about two years ago, I rang Voda and asked for the pin code. In your case you would need to ask T Mobile.
I have the exact same issue with my Galaxy from Handtec which arrived today. I hope they aren't selling sim-locked phones as sim-free... Time to call Voda...
Ok, apparently it's a known issue. Just spoke to handtec, they say they got a batch of phones from Samsung which are locked to Orange. Call them for a replacement/refund. Don't mess about with the phone support line, it just points you to the website and disconnects you, call them and speak to sales. 01733 298500

Ah ok, that makes sense and which is why my Orange SIM card worked but not T-Mobile. I may have come to this conclusion if I had a Vodafone and O2 SIM knocking about.
Thanks for the info. Will be returning the phone for a replacement.

@n4nick: It appears as though you were right although the phone doesn't look like an Orange locked phone. Orange are notorious for plastering their big ugly logo on the physical phone and all over the software. They even put their logo on the box, accessories and manuals. This phone really looks like a SIM free version.
I wonder if the Orange locked batch were due to go to Orange for them to do their usual carrier differentiation before they then go out to customers.
Hi!, I've bought Samsung Galaxy S from handtec too and I get the same message: sim network unlock pin. I've just sent request to Handtec support.
What about you? Did you somehow unlock? Or did you change your phone?
Speak to Handtec about it and get a replacement or a refund as the item sent out is the wrong item. As mentioned previously, I believe the mistake was from Samsung as they sent a batch of Orange locked handsets as unlocked handsets which Handtec then sold accordingly. Handtec seem to be handling the whole mixup very well with good customer service so you should be ok.
Yeah I'm experiencing this issue as well. Phone worked fine for 7 days then today out of nowhere I get the SIM network unlock PIN alert upon startup. I contacted Handtec and this is all they had to say.
Thanks for your email,
Unfortunately this is an error with Samsung and we will require all of the items back, postage will be covered once back and confirmed it is an orange locked device but we will require this back to replace it for you.
Please advise,
Kind regards.

Legally they have to give you a full refund including the postage cost for both ways. Therefore you could purchase a new handset while you are in the process of getting a refund for the existing one. You'll know if it is an Orange locked phone because there was one or two Orange specific applications pre-installed on the phone.
If it was working before and not now then it's possible it could be a different issue though.
I work for t-mobile and samsung sent us some unbranded phones that were locked to orange by mistake. That chances are we wernt the only ones to receive them

had this problem myself on O2
went to store to use their phone to ring around (they were sorry)
after time on the line with O2 support they had no answers, so i rang samsung
samsung took literally seconds on the phone, i said about the 'sim network unlock pin' and he simply turned round and said its dead, a dead chipset thats in every phone they sent out in the last week, i was told this on friday 11th
samsung then spoke to the staff at the O2 store and advised them to mark all other galaxys they had as 'dead on arrival' and return them and for others to do the same
looks like a big batch issue so best thing u can do is send your dodgy one back like i have done, hopefully this replacement will work
I just got the Network Unlock PIN Message myself randomly after a reboot 7 days after purchase.
Has anyone tried using a TurboSIM to see if it works?
Sad thing is it was working one day and then broke the next.
Pretty bad that we have to pay postage to get their doa replaced. ( Specially considering that's about $50 for me. )
EDIT: Does anyone know what the STOCK firmware was when you got your handtec handset? ( From what I can tell it could be XXJF3. )
EDIT2: Success! After contacting Handtec they sent me a code to use, it seems to have permanently network unlocked my phone.
After a few emails with Handtec they were able to provide me with an unlock code after giving them my IMEI number. All is good again
I have a similar problem with T959 from TMobile USA. The phone was obviously locked to TMobile but I got the code from TMobile, entered it and phone was unlocked. My customer took home, used it for about a week and now the phone is network lock again and ask for network pin. So I enter the same code that was used to unlock it but now it DOES NOT work. So strange. But this happened before on other android phone and it worked, just re-enter the code. Anyone has a solution yet on this problem?
aaarrrggghhhh!
I have same problem but.... the unlock code Handtec sent me does not work
I have tried every method I can find on the internet to enter the unlock code (eg #0111*code#, #7465625*638*code# and even #7465625*638*# which pops up with a seperate box to enter the unlock code) and each time it fails. I've even done this after various full hardware resets.
Hantec have said the phone might be faulty with a software problem and to send it back to them.
I am in Cyprus and its going to cost me 50 euro to send it back. If I had paid an extra 50 euro on the Handtec price I could have bought it locally! Doh!

To enter the code you should put a SIM in, and start the phone, it will ask you straight away...
If you attempted to enter wrong codes too many times it will stop asking you and your phone is permanently locked until you return it to the manufacturer.
Oh noes, mine better not relock... :\
Just out of curiosity, how many 5's does your code have?
I bought hd2 from ebay 2 weeks back and it is currently locked with T-mobile. I tried unlocking code from few sites but all returned my money, is there something changed? Can somebody sugest some where can get the code
Thanks

for most new phones now, the networks are the only ones that have the unlock codes.
what you will have to do, is get a free t-mobile pay as you go sim card and put it in the phone. dial 150 and speak to someone in tech support. say to them that your friend had the phone, but has since upgraded and got a new phone, and has given you the hd2, but you have a contract with another network so you need an unlock code for it. there may be a £15-£25 charge for it, but they should supply you with one. you will need either £20 credit or a debit card (they wont take payment from a credit card or any other source) for the payment, a valid email address that you check regulary and the phones imei number (printed on the sticker under the battery or dial *#06#). whatever you do DO NOT mention ebay!! phone networks do not like you buying phones from ebay and may give you some bs excuse as to why they cant give you an unlock code. they should email you the code within 14 working days. they may be able to tell you over the phone or they may post it to you in a letter, so be prepared for that as well
after you have unlocked the phone, you will need to debrand it. to do this, install hspl3 on the phone then install either the generic htc roms (or of you can find it, the rom from the network you are on), or one of the many custom roms available. also have a look at updating the radio rom. then its just a case of getting the operator settings either by opening the comm manager, tapping the data connection icon (the left hand icon next to the words 'data connection') and choosing your network from the list, or contacting your network and asking for the settings. it may be worth updating your connection database (in the connection setup, tap menu>update database>select update the latest settings of all operators>then tap the update database button) this ensures you are using the latest settings and will also add any new networks to the list.
i would avoid 3rd party unlocking sites/shops, as they way to unlock new phones is often related to imei, and the codes cant be generated yet, so the networks are the only option
hope this answers your question
the above process is for the UK btw, not sure if its any different for other countries
got mine unlocked in 25 minutes this morning, mines less thena month old, cost $26, just message blowfish06 on ebay and tell him you want an unlock from the new database, he will bill your paypall and you should be all set by tommarow (or by this morning if its already past 12 were u live), cheers

if you install any generic rom onto a tmous it will permanently kill it, so although the advice is sound for regular hd2, DO NOT follow that advice if you have a tmous.

Brilliant advice. 30mins for mine and only £5.45. So wish I knew about him 3 weeks ago when I asked T-mobile to unlock my G1. £15 and still waiting.
Never mentioned the new database to him for mine.
